      Well said. There is a BIG difference between criticism and "reaction" videos. Sure, it can be fun to watch random people be surprised by Jinjer or Band-Maid, but I leave those channels as soon as they finish doing the bands and songs I know. I only stick around and subscribe to channels (like this one) that actually take the time to critique and analyze what's going on.

      @@ChaseCarneson Hm, may I make two suggestions? Both of them are slightly different to this one - "BISMARCK" is more of a hymn to the ship itself.
      A song that is a bit slower and binds in classical instruments would be 'ANGELS CALLING', preferably the version featuring APOCALYPTICA, even better if it's the live version (ua-cam.com/video/LoQrs-RNwfE/v-deo.html)
      If you're more into high-speed low-drag, then you might find 'NIGHT WITCHES' more to your liking. (ua-cam.com/video/C7NSUFDHFgg/v-deo.html)
      You won't have to do either, but the former represents one of their erlier works that has been 'refurbished' to the better imo and the latter is my personal favourite.

      @@anitaostlund9683 There are theories about that. But the video shows the captain handing his watch to a young sailor who is picked up by the British. The young man survives to be an old man. And it's an old man holding the watch at the end. The video was produced in 2019. An 18 years old salior in 1941 would be 60 years old in 2019.
      Most people tend to not realize that WW2 ended just 79 years ago. There are still people alive today who fought in WW2. They are grandparents now but back in the day that little old man with a WW2 Veteran hat on was a badass storming the beaches. Or defending them depending on which side of the war that old man served. Or in the case of the navy engaging in ship to ship combat on the high seas.

    I know I'm late to this party but one thing the band did that was really cool when it comes to environmental noises was for I believe the song "the lost battalion" Instead of a traditional drum set they used an electronic set and mapped it to the sounds of different weapons being fired. So as the drummer plays you have this background that mimics just the total chaos of a battle whilst still working to give the track its rhythm.

    I did a quick look through the comments and no one seemed to mention this but the Lead Vocalist originally joined the band as the Keyboardist/Synth Player. Apparently the band convinced him to sing some vocals on their demo to try and have an easier time finding a Vocalist yet, here we are 20 years later and he's still singing everything. Might explain the different sounding Vocals.

  • @dandyprime5338
    @dandyprime5338 4 роки тому +10

    Woohoo! I enjoyed this reaction so much. So here's some insight to the band: Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden. The singer's name is Joakim (Yo'ah-KEEM) Broden. The drummer is Hannes van Dahl (he's Floor Jansen's husband). The bassist is Par Sundstrom. The guitarists are Tommy Johansson (blond haired one) and Chris Rorland. Almost all of Sabaton's songs are about world military and war history. They teach people about history in their songs and it's super compelling and fun. Par Sundstrom (the bassist), stated that the band decided to focus primarily on historical themes in their lyrics after he and Joakim Broden (the singer) watched the film Saving Private Ryan. This song in particular is about the Bismarck, one of the largest German battleships ever created. The subject of the Bismarck was one that was so requested by fans that the band just made it into a non-album single. Their most recent album is called The Great War and focuses entirely on World War I. It was released last year on July 19th. In regards to you comment about the production and CGI quality of the video; most of Sabaton's music videos are in collaboration with Wargaming, a Belarusian video game company located in Nicosia, Cyprus. The band members are active players of the various Wargaming franchises, such as World of Tanks, World of Warships, and World of Warplanes. The company and the band thus collaborate together to make these high-quality videos to promote the games and the band's music. As you react to this band more, you'll notice that they always have the same outfit on in each video and always during their live shows. That's sort of a gimmick that they have. It all started when their very first music video was recorded for the song "Attero Dominatus" when they wore the outfits and it just kind of "stuck" after that moment. Another interesting thing is that the band's first album was not actually the first thing they wrote. What would eventually be their third album, Metalizer, is the first album they wrote, but it didn't get published until much later. It's also the only album that is not focused on world military and war history. Lastly, on February 7th, 2019, the band launched a separate channel on UA-cam called Sabaton History, where members of the band, along with the channel's host, Indy Neidell, discuss and elaborate more on the meanings for songs and albums by going back through the history and teaching it to the viewers. I was also waiting for the "this dude reminds me of Chuck Liddell" comment. Everyone says that, haha!
    As for song suggestions, check these out:
    "Night Witches", "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", "Attack of the Dead Men", and "Shiroyama". Thanks Chase! Another band that you may get requests for because of Sabaton is the band called Amaranthe since they recently toured with Sabaton. Amaranthe is also from Sweden, but from the city of Gothenburg. They are a really interesting band that you should check out too. If you do, I recommend their new song, "Viral". Thanks again!

    Great reaction! Love listening to your breakdowns.
    What's interesting about this song is that it reaches out to most people as being a more laid-back power metal song with classic heavy metal instrumentation. The best part about it, though, is that when most people start looking into their other EPs and such, they'll quickly find that these guys are badasses in their own right!
    The next songs you should check out, in my opinion, would have to be Red Baron, Fields of Verdun, The Last Stand, Night Witches, 40:1, and many others that I can't even begin to hype up more than I'm able. They all have their own aspects that make them unique and it gives you a sense of the scope that they have. Every song is unique and yet the all sound like Sabaton. I've found very few bands that can do that, and Sabaton nails it every time!

    The video is a result of Sabaton's partnership with WarGaming, a company best known for their World of Tanks and World of Warships video games; the CGI & sound effects used were ripped straight from the latter title. The film is also notable for its incredible historical accuracy--the scenes you saw really do depict the final battle & sinking of the Bismarck. I did not expect to see Sabaton here. I will say that Sabaton creates quite simple and accessible power metal music. I don't expect anything crazy or mind-blowing from them but they know how to create bangers like this. They often use these epic orcherstral sounds (and actually played few times with an orchestra on stage) and choirs. I've seen them multiple times since 2012 and you can always feel the energy in the crowd. "Ghost division", "Art of War", "Primo Victoria" and "Carolus Rex" are the well known songs which they play almost every time. So if you want to listen to more from them, check out these or "Great War" or "Fields of Verdun"(this one has similar video to Bismarck in terms of visuals) from their newest album.

    Like 90% of their songs are about war related stuff. Last 4 albums have some overarching theme - 2012 "Carolus Rex" is specific to part of Swedish history(30 years war), 2014 "Heroes" is about specific people/soldiers that achieved something during wars, 2016 "Last Stand" is about those last stands in wars and finally 2019 "The Great War" is about the first world war.
    -
    This is not the original squad, they split up in 2012. Only bass player and singer remained in Sabaton and the rest left and formed a new band called "Civil War" (also heavy/power metal band). As Belph2 and Willem Hoek said, the current drummer is Floor Jansen's husband.

    Completely agree with your assessment that their music is simple. But as already mentioned almost all their music is a mini history lesson and i would recommend you read up on the history of the title (not much just to get the general idea of what's behind it)
    Really liked the video and hope you'll do more Sabaton in the future.
    If you need some recommendations here's a short list of my favorites:
    * Night Witches
    * The Red Baron
    * The Last Stand
    * 82nd All The Way
    * To Hell And Back
    * Carolus Rex (English version)

    to answer the budget question,.. they collaborated with wargaming for their world of warships game. and they provided the cgi.
    sabaton is about history,.. from more modern things ww2 back to sparta everything is covered.. battles, heroes, disasters... its bout the lyrics. they even have a separate channel Sabaton History that covers the background story (historically) for each song

    This is the only song I've heard of Sabaton as well, even though I've known of their existence for .. what, 20 years probably. But, although I enjoyed the music itself, I actually struggled to watch the original video because it's such a tragic story of war. And that, is why this is the first, but definitely not the last Sabaton song I'll be listening to. A band that can dedicate themselves to paying tribute, in such a respectful way, to historical events like that, is just really cool.

    They opened for Babymetal in Japan in 2018 and the lead singer Joakim Brodén is a guest vocalist on the fun Babymetal song "Oh! Majinai" . Think "pirate metal". He even learned to sing a little bit in Japanese. Speaking of opening acts, please look at another Swedish metal band, Avatar, who opened for Babymetal on their US tour. Check out "Vultures Fly" or "Bloody Angel". Wonderfully theatrical band and the lead singer Johannes Eckerström is pretty amazing. They've been described as melodic death metal or avant-garde metal.

    Sabaton, making history cool since 1999! you really should pay attation to the lyrics. They take historic events, mainly war (that's why the cameo!) and tell the stories. Bismark for instance, was one off Germanys biggest war ships and called terror of the seas. Great reaction as always. If you want good live songs from them, ghost devision-woodstock or swedish peagans- Wacken. So mutch energy and fun!

    Hey Chase, man you create such a good content here, really great explainations and you've got an eye for the things most people miss on their first like 100 listens of a song.
    I really appreciate that you are honest on those oppinions and that's you don't say a song is your new favourite, while it's not your cup of tea at all.
    one of the best reaction channels out there - go on with your great work! :)
    .... well ... I have to suggest you a great song to react to:
    Avantasia - The Raven Child
    Avantasia is a german metalband founded by Tobias Sammet - the head of the band Edguy - it started with a metal opera project - only meant to exist for 2 albums - those albums were a big success, and eventually the project turned into a real band, playing big world tours and headlining the biggest festivals, like Wacken Open Air.
    It's really epic, storytelling music that features many very talented singers from all over the world, for example Geoff Tate (Ex-Queensryche, Operation Mindcrime), Eric Martin (Mr Big), Jorn Lande, Michael Kiske (Ex-Helloween, Unisonic), Ronny Atkins (Pretty Maids), Bob Catley (Magnum), Alice Cooper, .... the list is endless :p
    The Raven Child is a song from their latest album with a great lyric video. - I am sure, you will enjoy this.
    Cheers :)

    He is Chuck Liddell who fancies wearing aviator and bulletproof vest all the time lol. So, I can see why you aren't impressed with this song. The structure is simple and very straightforward. I felt the same way on my first listen but I grew to like it after listening few times. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you'd know why people like this song so much. It's like epic story-telling. This song also doesn't represent their usual sound, they're heavier than this. Maybe try Carolus Rex next or Night Witches.
    Also you won't regret seeing this band live. They put on hell of a show.

    If you like "environmental sounds" used in the song, you'll love The Lost Battalion (and it's prelude, The Diary of an Unknown Soldier, as the two go together). Bonus points for the prelude being voiced by none other than Jon Schaffer, the creative mind behind Iced Earth (another band that went through a Nightwish-like revival on their third vocalist).

    I enjoy Sabaton, much due to their focus on war history, but it's really good to hear that you say that it isn't really your cup of tea. It really shows that you're not just out to say whatever the viewers might want to hear but rather to speak your actual opinion, and that's certainly not a given when it comes to reaction videos. Honesty is always better and it makes your reactions even more valuable.
    On the topic of Swedish metal I'd recommend the progressive metal band Pain of Salvation. Beyond the Pale can be a good song to try out.
