I'm a Vietnam War veteran, and I have great respect for Sabaton. They and Five Finger Death Punch are the only bands that I know of who tell the stories of the military and veterans. About this event in history... setting down their guns and meeting in No Man's Land was the most human thing I can imagine. But then going back the next day and trying to kill the very same people you met with the day before is the most inhuman thing I can imagine. This is a story that tells about both the best and worst that humanity has to offer.

My great grandfather was a major in the German army during ww1(11/14-11/18). Not sure if he was part of Christmas truce or not. Yet he did tell us. He gave orders to never fire on Christmas day. He said "It's the only orders he gave. That he didn't regret". That's why when the not sees took power. He packed his family and left Germany to immigrate to U.S. to keep his sons out of the war he seen coming.

"Christmas Truce" is on the newest (their 10th) 2022 album "The War To End All Wars" it was one of the names for ww1 (to us, very ironic name). All the songs/stories on it are about ww1.
The end credit bit with Floor is from Sabaton's orchestral version of the song, on a companion album called "The Symphony To End All Wars". Floor has never sung on a "normal" Sabaton album, but she has a few songs on both 2022 album and the previous 2019 "The Great War" (also all about ww1) orchestral version "The Soundtrack To The Great War".
To clarify, the "normal" Sabaton female choir is 5 local ladies from Falun. They have done all female choirs in Sabaton "metal" songs since 2005 except on Christmas Truce, in which they used an Italian gospel choir. The male choir is Joakim & the guys and they've also used a local band called Eternal of Sweden.
They also have a History Edition's of the 2019 & 2022 album's with a short info before every song. Also the Sabaton History Channel on UA-cam is really good. They have an historian Indy Neidel telling the history behind a song for 15-20min and then either Joakim or Pär from the band to talk about the song for few minutes. Informative, interesting, entertaining, well made and occasionally very funny.
CURRENT BAND MEMBERS (2022): (Band was formed 1999, war history metal since 2005)
Joakim Brodén, 1999- (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar when needed, the main song writer, lyrics, "music director" of the band) He was originally an organ/piano player, before he had to learn to sing for Sabaton in the early 2000's. A REALLY EPIC FRONTMAN!
The lyrics are all written by him and the basist (who are the only original members left in the band.) Joakim and Pär are also the "history nerds" of the band.
Pär Sundström, 1999- (bass, lyrics, backing vocals, band manager, the "practical" side of running Sabaton) He's the one with the cross at the end.
Chris Rörland, 2012- (lead guitar, graphic design, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals) Brown hair, hugs Hannes :)
Hannes Van Dahl, 2013- (drums, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals) *Married to Floor Jansen ;)* He's the blonde who was 1st out of the trench.
Tommy Johansson, 2016- (lead guitar, some song writing with Joakim, backing vocals)
Does the guitar solo on this one.

The production level is nuts and looks like a Hollywood movie because it was made by people who actually make movies. They weren't making movies when the world shut down, so they had time for this. Great story and video, and Floor at the end...
This is the lead single from the newest album, The War to End All Wars. Soldier of Heaven, The Unkillable Soldier, and Race to the Sea from this record have been released as singles since. The animated story videos for Night Witches and No Bullets Fly are also highly recommended.

All I’d heard for two months in the trenches was the hissing, cracking and whining of bullets in flight, machinegun fire and distant German voices.
But there was a dead silence that morning, right across the land as far as you could see. We shouted 'Merry Christmas', even though nobody felt merry. The silence ended early in the afternoon and the killing started again. It was a short peace in a terrible war."

This song this video gets me emotional every time. I cry every time I hear it.I love Joakim's voice. You know, Sabaton 's guitarist, T9mmy Johansson, he has a second band called Majestica and does some sick covers on UA-cam. His voice is unbelievable. You need to check him out. For example "you raise me up ( one octave challenge) or the phantom of the opera, both unbelievable power metal versions. You'll love it

The song is dedicated to those soldiers who, during the First World War, more precisely on Christmas Eve 1914, decided to lay down their arms and thus established the Christmas peace. The unauthorized truce took place on the western front between the Germans and the British in Flanders.
Many of the soldiers were confident that they would be back with their families by Christmas. However, since this was not the case, the soldiers decided on their own to spend a night like brothers, to form an alliance and to put down their weapons for a short time. Suddenly it became very quiet and this silence spread to the eastern front.

    A year late, but I don't care:
I went to their concert this year and heard this song live. They asked the audience to take out their phones and turn on the flashlights. It was such a powerful feeling. It was insane to actually be there (the lights where so bright that they didn't even need the lights of the stage anymore lmfao)

Not sure if this is below. But during there most recent tour, they had everyone pull out there phones and turn on there flashlights. Turning around to see what looked like candles in the dark to this song was....just...amazing.

Fun fact about Joakim, the lead singer: he wasn't the original sabaton singer. He was originally the keyboard player for the band, and stood in when the original singer left. He was supposed to stand in until they "found a better one", but the band members made it pretty clear that he WAS the replacement.

I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead."
    "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon."
I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. Tonight is Christmas, tonight we sing.
    -Manfred von Schreiber.

Yes you are absolutely right, I was in the crowd at Hellfest, I'm french and I had Germans, British and Swedish people around me, during the chorus we were arms in arms swaying and forgetting COVID and everything else. It was really emotional especially thinking that a 100y back there was a another crowd in another field killing eachother. It was the best moment of my Hellfest and bare in mind Metallica was playing next and the whole festival lineup was insane.
