Wondering how Bailey is doing since this video. I just received today (Dec.24) this same cruciate knee brace from OrthoDog for my Rottweiler, Tyson. It doesn't seem to matter where or how I adjust it, it doesn't stay where I believe it should. Their video shows the purple tag will slip to the outside somewhat. However, when this happens the more ridgid inside brace is over Tysons knee/stifle. I think the two braces should be provideing lateral stability and staying on each side of the leg. I tried writing to Orthodog from their site as they provide no email address but the site keeps marking it as spam. I'm in Canada but guess I'll have to phone. Funny, it didn't mark me as spam before ordering. Have you found a better fit or has leaving it as is helped Bailey. Regards Heather
Bailey has actually torn or partially torn her other cruciate ligament since the video. We spent a few weeks working with the brace, but it had to be very tight for it to stay on. Tight enough that Bailey was uncomfortable when trying to sit or lie down (as evidenced by her pitiful whining). We never did get the brace to line up correctly, with the tag always sliding around to the outside. I don't know if it was her particular body geometry causing this, but we were afraid it might be doing more harm than good. We have since stopped using the brace, and unfortunately the velcro has torn up the soft fabric pretty badly to the point I'm pretty sure Orthodog won't take it back. On a better note, Bailey has seemed to improve without the use of the brace or surgery. We try to keep her activity limited to walking (no significant amounts of running) and in short duration. Both of her knees seem to be improving. She does occasionally relapse when she sees a cat or squirrel in the yard though.
doresoom1 Thank you for getting back to me So sorry to hear Bailey is now having pain on the other side. This seems to be quite a common occurrence due to the opposite side compensating to take weight off the injury. Doing more harm than good was exactly my impression. Thankfully I didn't leave it on as I could see the discomfort. Tyson was more sore just from us trying to fit it. This was really scary because he has been showing improvement the last 2 weeks with our management of him. He's had this cruciate issue since late September 2014 when he suddenly couldn't bear weight but, in hindsight, I believe it was an underling issue of an off and on slight lameness since we got him from the breeder at 4 months old. The vets had never pin pointed it. Too much ball chasing or long walk would start it. Since the lameness became so obvious, when I massaged him, it was the stifle area that would cause twitching and his tail would go down and in that direction. The Vet thought cruciate or arthritis. It may very well lead to arthritis but arthritis didn't cause this sudden severe lameness he's been dealing with since September. The next day (Dec.24) my husband and I went very slowing re-adjusting the entire harness and support so everything worked together. It still slipped to the outside of the leg with the inside brace then coming over his stifle. I also wondered if it was just the wrong size but from struggling with this I know a xl would be too big and the medium would be too small as it is the placement of the braces that concerned me. The only way to hinder this somewhat was to leave the front flank strap off and attach the back strap clip to the front butterfly strap. This helped but the ridged brace support was still not in a good position and this is key as they are supposed to aid lateral stability. We went for a 10 minute walk - he was worse afterwards & I will be sending it back. A costly experiment to which OrthoDog has still not replied. Did you get a refund? These last 12 days Tyson has shown marked improvement on his own. So, I will continue with what we've been doing since September. Much of our hope came from this site, Dog ACL/CCL Ligament Injury Recovery Without Surgery. It should be the first page that comes up in a Google search & underneath this heading will be tiggerpoz.com/id3.html The page itself has a blue top border with the title I gave you. I buy the Seniors because Tyson is 7 but also this one has more potency than the regular. I started with giving him an extra 2 per day for two weeks to get it into his system. It's a great product & buy, better that the one my Vet.Clinic sells and at half the price for the same amount! - in October my Vet started Tyson on a product called Cartophen for his joints because there will likely be wear with cruciate damage. It - "(a) Stimulates chondrocytes to synthesize cartilage matrix; (b) Stimulates synoviocyte biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid; (c) Inhibits enzymes implicated in the degradation of cartilage matrix components and in the release of inflammatory mediators; (d) Anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism; (e) Mobilizes thrombi and fibrin deposits in synovial tissues and subchondral blood vessels, thus increasing the perfusion of the joint, with resulting improvement in cartilage nutrition; (f) Mobilizes lipids and cholesterol in synovial and subchondral blood vessels". - I MASSAGE Tyson twice a day. Front and back good side and bad side because the front end is carrying more weight as is the good hind leg. Front of shoulders, withers, along both side of spine in the heavy muscles (not on the spine), pelvis, hips, stifle (just enough t move the skin over the affected area in small light circles. Counter clockwise to lessen pain but finish with clock wise to strengthen area tissue. Book; Canine Massage A Complete Reference Manual by Jean-Pieppr Hourdebaigt @ Amazon. - If you have a place to take Bailey swimming that would probably work wonders as she will not loose so much muscle tone and can exercise without weight bearing. Canadian winters don't allow swimming now but come spring we will buy Tyson some wide steps so he can go in our above ground pool from off of our deck. Take care Heather
doresoom1 P.S to my long previous reply Don't allow Bailey to do stairs, no running, no long walks, etc. Control her behaviour. I imagine your vet has already told you all this. Heather
deanna held She's doing a bit better, but we're still making her take it easy. She'll still re-injure herself every time she sees something in the yard she really wants to chase, so we have to do a quick survey of the yard for bunnies before letting her out off-leash. As I said before, we haven't been using the brace after trying it for a few weeks. Surprisingly, one of the best things we've done that seems to help her recover is getting her a nice, extra plush dog bed. She spends a lot of time lounging around on it, as Rotties are wont to do. :)
A friend got one and was talked into both sides even though injury was on one side.. She was told biggest concern is the other leg getting hurt and position of brace. Hers stays in place well.. Consider both sides if you get a brace.
You make a good point, and that may have worked a little better than a one-sided brace. However, the brace tended to rotate around the axis of her leg as well, which wouldn't be stopped by adding a brace on the other side. Ultimately, we decided against continuing use of the brace, and Bailey healed close to 100% after lots of rest and staying off her feet.
@@DoresoomReviews Thanks for making this video. It gives me hope for my dog. OReo's not too bad but she has an injury. I just wish good ones were cheaper.
roman polaski Agree, buyer beware. I wish I'd seen these comments before purchasing this same brace for my dog. It didn't work for her and was used one time and was very clean. However, we got NO REFUND AT ALL. We got a letter stating that the brace was so dirty that it couldn't be resold. We cleaned the brace before returning for hours, vacuumed it, picked hairs, one by one; there were no more hairs before I packed it, and shipped it back. I don't believe the company ever gives a refund and wish I could post this on their website, but cannot enter a negative comment. This is a waste of $200 and I still have to spend $2500 for my dog to have surgery.
I'd read a bunch of similar cases where the company didn't issue a refund upon return, so I ended up selling mine on eBay for about 50% of the new cost when we decided it wasn't working for our dog.
I am trying this brace out day one, and having a bit of trouble. It seems like I have it sized fitted properly, even though it seems to have too much extra strapping. She got a large, and I'm confident the medium will seem too small. The problem I'm having is when she sits down. The leg brace and anchor slide down to her ankles when she sits down. Standing up, it seems stable and well fit. But as soon as she sits, the braces slide down here legs. Is this a problem you had, and one I can work around?
Our dog sits oddly with her legs straight out, but I still noticed the brace sliding down a little when she sat. I never did find a good solution for it.

Hey, did she get a surgery for the CCL injury? Or did she wear this after surgery? Our dog got a CCL and surgery was suggested, but many people use these braces to keep from doing surgery. That is what we are thinking. But, they have others now that seem to allow more movement. Just they are more expensive. Any thoughts? thanks.
No surgery. We gave up on the brace too, it didn't seem to help. With rest and no running, she can walk just fine now. That means encouraging sedentary activities like chew toys and checking the backyard for squirrels and birds before letting her out for a few months. Most days we can't tell anything was ever wrong, but if she really overdoes it we can tell she's a little sore and limps slightly the next day. There's a lump of scar tissue around each knee.

There are no instructions with this cruciate care knee brace except how to put it on. How long to you leave it on the dog each day? All day? Part of the day?
We couldn't keep our dog in it for more than 30 minutes. It kept slipping off or shifting so she couldn't bend her knee at all. We finally just gave up and kept her from running by using a leash every time we let her out for several months, and making sure there weren't any rabbits or squirrels in the backyard to chase prior to letting her out. She healed on her own with the rest regimen without needing surgery.
How much does one of those put you back I bought one from another company but it was just foam material no hard brace that supports the knee in any type of way so I sent it back.
I think it was like $200. Don't buy one - we ended up not using it and just making sure our dog rested plenty and didn't run for several months. She healed enough on her own that she doesn't limp anymore.

It does not hold the leg at all. I will not attempt a return nor a refund as I did read their policy and it mentions no hair etc. Given the material being double mesh it will be impossible to remove it to a point where it will be acceptable to them. All in all its just a bad product. The best part is you cannot write a review on their site and they have complains with the BBB.
Anyone have luck with this? I had surgery for my boxer mix right knee and now she tore the left 8 weeks later. 1st one isn't fully healed and she isn't getting around. I don't wanna waste money that could go to the surgery down payment. But I'm still paying on the other knees tta surgery.
We had better luck just keeping our dog from running and minimizing activity for about 6 months. The ligaments healed with a little scar tissue, and she can walk without a limp now. Don't waste your money on this brace.
Do not buy this product. You will be spending more time trying to adjust the brace. When the dog sits the brace will slide down and all the time the neutral brace will slide down to the ankle which will prevent the dog from standing. My dog is so uncomfortable and restrained. Trust me, you will regret it. You will be throwing away your money as I did. If you go to the seller's youtube video you will see that they turned off comments because I am sure you will see more negative comments than positive. You have been warned.

Don't be fooled by this brace!! There are much better out there, my canine orthopedist says this would not even help a sprain!! Look into custom braces
MrWildmanwes I have no affiliation with the manufacturer, I'm just trying to get some information out there about the brace. As for your plug for custom braces, they are hardly a comparable solution. The cheapest I'd researched rang up at $1000+, with the requirement of having a vet take a cast of the injured leg.
+Doresoom Reviews have you looked at Woundwear, Inc? No cast but they prefer you get leg measurements from xrays (vet). I haven't purchased yet but so far in my research seems best.
+111gagafan I answered this in the other comments and the linked follow up video. We're not using the brace anymore, and she's improved quite a bit with a regimen of less walking and running. Almost no limping anymore at all.
this brace isn't worth anything. poorly designed and I'll fitting. I garuntee that your dog will not wear it and no wonder. when I looked at him walking in it I saw why. the brace twists and the rigid part prevents the leg from bending. it forced him to walk stiff legged no in pain
Idk why but this makes me happy seeing what people come up with to help these pups become their old self

MrWildmanwes I have no affiliation with the manufacturer, I'm just trying to get some information out there about the brace. As for your plug for custom braces, they are hardly a comparable solution. The cheapest I'd researched rang up at $1000+, with the requirement of having a vet take a cast of the injured leg.

have you looked at Woundwear, Inc? No cast but they prefer you get leg measurements from xrays (vet). I haven't purchased yet but so far in my research seems best.
+111gagafan I answered this in the other comments and the linked follow up video.
We're not using the brace anymore, and she's improved quite a bit with a regimen of less walking and running. Almost no limping anymore at all.
+MrWildmanwes i bet your canine ortho makes boatloads on those custom braces
like what brand? vet will not do sh*t unless I pay for surgery so can't ask them
this brace isn't worth anything. poorly designed and I'll fitting. I garuntee that your dog will not wear it and no wonder. when I looked at him walking in it I saw why. the brace twists and the rigid part prevents the leg from bending. it forced him to walk stiff legged no in pain
