Excellent video analysis of the album. It brings me so much joy watching someone light up the way you do at something I hold dear, and I think this video has made me appreciate the album even more than I did before.
@@pathreactsI don’t think it’s particularly significant in its meaning - Frank Zappa is just the king of experimental rock and it’s cool that madlib picked it. Though entirely different genres, their oddball and abstract nature is the same.
this is one of the greatest pieces of art to ever happen to music, not just hip hop. genuinely breaks the boundaries of all time of music, plus it had the same effect as Illmatic had when that dropped because when everyone saw how insane DOOM’s rapping was, everyone else just said “aight nah, I need to step up my game” even though these projects are drastically different, the money store by death grips is what I consider the dystopian madvillainy. instead of the humor in the complex world play, it’s replaced with vile, pure manic and evil lines of some of the most brutal things any man has ever said, all paired with, while overloading in terms of how industrial and all over the place they are, earworm-esque instrumentals. it’s just pure animalistic energy, it is not a fun project, just pure brutality. and yet somehow it’s not even the most brutal project death grips as made LOL. I’d HIGHLY suggest trying out the money store for a more insane and mindblowing experience, even though I do prefer madvillainy over it. just a suggestion :D
If you want to really get into DOOM's writing style I suggest you watch a few lyrical breakdowns of some of his songs. Accordian is an incredibly dense one full of obscure references. Vox Earworm has a great video explaining DOOM's rhyme style. Also listening to his other projects helps you get used to his style for sure, coming back to Madvillainy after listening to Take Me To Your Leader and MM Food really made that album way better somehow haha.
One of the greatest collaborations in music history. The one album that reignited my interest in all things hip-hop. Madvillainy is simply untouchable.
@@wii240 I just don’t listen to those artists as much besides Kendrick and I ironically don’t like TPAB. If it’s a “classic” I probably don’t like it. I’m not trying to be different, I’m just really dense and if I have to think too hard I won’t enjoy the music. I liked half of the albums you mentioned though. For context, these are albums I love: - Die Lit - 17 - ? - WLR - Illmatic - Live Love ASAP - Long Live ASAP - All Hope is Gone I’ll welcome any recommendations. I am ironically not a picky person. My favourite acts include XXX (obviously), Playboi Carti, Blackpink, Le Sserafim, Slipknot, Muse…
@@XXXTENTAClON227 king gizzard and the lizard wizard - Nonagon Infinity is a pretty cool rock album. for rap, i recently discovered nujabes and he has some great albums. my favorite by him is luv sic hexalogy
@@MnnMm-rt2wf I love Blacker The Berry , arguably my favourite Kendrick song. I like two others which are easy to guess, because the rest feel like storytelling rather than songs. Ironically, I don’t usually like 3 or more songs on a single album, so I still rank it highly. However, I am astonished to see people rank GKMC below it as GKMC is not only incredible but one of the best ever. Almost every song is a single worthy track. I am a huge instrumental person. Almost all of my favourite songs ever have the same loop the entire time. For reference, my favourite instrumental is either “i don’t wanna do this anymore” by X, “Fell in Luv” by Playboi Carti, or “Save me” by Chief Keef. I also think Clams Casino is probably the best producer to ever do it in Hip Hop. I am more likely to be excited about the producer of a song, than the artist themselves. Appreciate you not assuming I just want to be different. If that was the case, I wouldn’t think albums like Illmatic are the greatest ever. But two albums specifically, TPAB and Rodeo, have never appealed to me after multiple listens and I have always assumed it’s due to the complexity rather than the quality. It probably says a lot that my favourite album ever is Die Lit, which would give most old heads a seizure
oh yeah - now we’re talking. this album is a fucking classic, but it took like five listens for it to click with me. that made me appreciate it even more, to be completely honest!
sort of the same for me, though a bunch of the tracks grew on me at different times. it was already one of my favourite hip hop albums i'd ever listened to before i even realized figaro is as amazing as it is, for example, lol.
i heard a lot of this, so i was worried it wouldnt click for me on first listen either lol. tbh i hadnt gotten back to it that frequently until recently (this was recorded in february) and having to figure out what i loved on first listen helped me to appreciate it more :)
they way you break the video down like an album analysis/review is super refreshing and it's always dope hearing someone show midvillainy some love. you got some interesting insights too. excited to see what you'll review next 🙏
While I’ve considered Madvillainy as my favorite album for a while now, watching you react to this entire album makes me respect the album even more since I forgot how actually amazing it was. And what’s even more impressive is that a demo of the album was originally stolen and leaked to the point where they worked on the album again. Really goes to show how talented MF DOOM and Madlib can be without even mentioning it.
AMAZING album. figaro the best song imo and the most underrated. madlib is probably in the top 5 of the best producers oat and MF DOOM is simply amazing. rest in peace villain.
What makes this album great is just how they followed no rules on this project. It’s so abstract it’s so raw and authentic and fulfills everything a listener of hip hop would want to hear. Almost like the epitome of what hip hop can be as a genre. MM..FOOD goes even further into DOOMs mind as to how he can take a concept and bring you into his world while keeping the listener entertained with the concept. Also you’ll learn different facts about food..
Raid holds a special place for me as it’s the first MF DOOM track I heard. Was jamming at work and it came up in my suggested songs. The beat hooked me first then I just dove headlong into his catalog.
Awesome! For me it was from Boondocks when you see Huey fight a guy with an afro and the background plays ALL CAPS. I remember searching then I ended up hearing the whole album and falling in love.
@@reggiejones907 bro normally I'm not sad with famous actors or artists that pass away but for MF DOOM it was sad because we have no idea who he is behind the character you know. I wished for an album about him personally as Daniel Dumile. Its like having a real character that disappeared all of a sudden.
I really like how you edited this with your well-formed thoughts dropped in after the fact. It's a kind of happy medium between a reaction video and a more structured analysis. Quite different than other reaction videos which can get kinda 'sludgy'. 👍
this album is obviously a classic but im personally more excited to hear your thoughts on MM..FOOD which is literally what it sounds like... its a food-themed comicbook story which progresses throughout the album, its such an enjoyable listen, its my go-to comfort album!
Amazing video and awesome album pick, Path! It is a really dense production and DOOM lyrics only start to make sense after a few listens. You got a lot of those references very quickly, it was really nice! Congrats and good luck exploring DOOM's and Madlib's other productions, if you will! 🎉🎉🎉 PS: Wishing you all the best there in Paris! Hopefully everything is ok
whenever you react to an album i never heard before, i listen to the album on my own first and then i come back to see ur reaction afterwards, i feel like others that watch you probably do this too
"Everybody talkin bout pistols, gats is borin Came with a new topic to flip you, Vats of urine " RIP DOOM Never seen your content but earned a sub off this vid alone. You should do Aesop Rock.
Fun fact: MF DOOM is British. It’s really an ASAP Rocky situation where he was brought to America before he could be vocally colonized, but it still counts and I would like to say he LAPS Skepta easily.
There is no cohesive flow to it?!😅 This is flowing like nothing else. It‘s a Villains‘s stream of consciousness. All tied together by reoccuring lyrical and musical motifs and the specific overall feel and production.
I really like take me to your leader by king geedorah and shades of blue (madlib invades blue note). The latter is madib using the entire blue note catalog to make an album. It’s *chef’s kiss*
Yoooo glad you finally got around to this! I've loved this album since my dad introduced it to me. Just holds a lot of nostalgia. Thanks for the reaction
watching someone else experience the joy of discovering one of my favourite albums ever brings the same now as listening to it for myself the first time
There’s something so classy about this album. It feels like something you’d hear in the background on a jukebox in a nice bar and then go “damn, the hell is that?”
I just found out about this channel. One word: Masterful. Beautifully crafted videos, with a unique style I have never seen before, making me feel a certain way about the albums I have listened to as if I haven’t listened to them in my life. I own vinyl records of DAMN and other Kendrick Lamar albums and your content made me want to listen to it all of again. Very well thought out reviews that you have made. You also make videos on albums I haven’t listened / have not wanted to listen to, so I want to look into some of those. As for album recommendations I’d recommend Blond by Frank Ocean, Culture II by Migos, and MM…FOOD by MF DOOM. Music has changed my life and going into freshman year in a few days I will continue to live by the values I have learned through music. Will be watching more of this soon. Much love and peace on Earth.
I love how the reason the encore happens in rhinestone cowboy is because doom didn’t rhyme the whole of the phrase Rhinestone cowboy. So him saying “no no enough” is him saying “come on I can do better than that don’t cheer for that” as he proceeds to do MUCH better than that.
Yoooooooo, glad you enjoyed it! It was fun watching your reaction and hearing your insights! You were able to articulate a lot of the reasons why I too enjoy this albums in ways I never could personally. If you enjoyed Madlibs more jazzy breakdowns on this album might I recommend his earlier albums "Angles Without Edges" under his pseudonym Yesterday's New Quintent (mentioned in Bistro), as well as "Shades of Blue: Madlib Invades Blue Note". The song "Stepping into Tomorrow" still haunts me in the best way possible and is an excellent starting point. Also Mm.. Food! Is my personal favorite MF DOOM album and I would love to see you react to it! There are so many damn jokes that I missed my first listen through. Realizing what Poo-Putt Platter was really about literally had in tears. RIP to the Supervillain. Literally a mad fucking genius.

YES YES YES YES YES I've been waiting for this one for so long!!
Can’t recommend enough to listen to the album without pause, it flows so perfectly from track to track. It gives it a whole new vibe
Gotta give it a relisten. Curls still sits in my head as such a memorable song despite it being so short
I’m still shocked by how this album revamped to become super popular. I remember buying this on iTunes in 8th grade. Long live the mad villain
Production value is top notch for a reaction video.
Very easily my favourite album of all time, also this is a cool style of reaction video
I don’t even like most of the albums posted on the channel I just really like hearing you talk lmao it’s so peaceful
how can you not like most of the albums? madvillainy, ok computer, tpab, dsotm, gkmc, ksg. all classics
For context, these are albums I love:
- Die Lit
- 17
- ?
- WLR
- Illmatic
- Live Love ASAP
- Long Live ASAP
- All Hope is Gone
I’ll welcome any recommendations.
@@XXXTENTAClON227has your Music taste evolved at all since then?
Seeing someone say they don’t like TPAB was a shock to me
@@MnnMm-rt2wf I love Blacker The Berry , arguably my favourite Kendrick song.
I love your bits of voice over. It’s a good way to keep a reaction interesting during the whole video. Great work!
i love your editing and the video essay style voiceover, and your voice is so relaxing
So glad you got to react to this masterpiece!
It sad hearing the news of the condition he was put in before his passing, forever timeless music, rip the mad villain MF DOOM
wonderful reaction path, absolutely timeless project
oh yeah - now we’re talking.
this album is a fucking classic, but it took like five listens for it to click with me. that made me appreciate it even more, to be completely honest!
sort of the same for me, though a bunch of the tracks grew on me at different times. it was already one of my favourite hip hop albums i'd ever listened to before i even realized figaro is as amazing as it is, for example, lol.
i heard a lot of this, so i was worried it wouldnt click for me on first listen either lol. tbh i hadnt gotten back to it that frequently until recently (this was recorded in february) and having to figure out what i loved on first listen helped me to appreciate it more :)
they way you break the video down like an album analysis/review is super refreshing and it's always dope hearing someone show midvillainy some love. you got some interesting insights too. excited to see what you'll review next 🙏
Path’s voice makes these videos feel like if those meditation apps did album breakdowns 😂
Thank you yt for recommending this love the way you break down the music but not make it too technical and the genuine reactions
'THE MOUSE AND THE MASK' is probably my favourite MF DOOM album, I'd highly recommend. Love the vids and the hard work you put in as always
Hmm interesting choice. I love danger mouse as a producer but I don’t think either are at their peak on the album
@@potatoandbeans1543 I think bias leans heavy but it really surprised me, loved the feeling of the album - paints a great picture.
you need so many more subscribers, with this quality of content. Big ups
Mad respect for you! Best reviewer ive seen so far! You totally get everything about this wonderful gem of an album❤
AMAZING album. figaro the best song imo and the most underrated. madlib is probably in the top 5 of the best producers oat and MF DOOM is simply amazing. rest in peace villain.
Rhinestone Cowboy is the best imo, and I’m still bumping sickfit daily
Definitely didn't expect this, good coverage as Always.
Among my favorite albums of all time... I clicked on this insanely fast, always love your videos
This is still one of my favorite albums. So unique and influential for hip hop today.
Never too late!!! Mad respect for you doing this!
Fancy Clown is one of my favorite songs of all time and top 1 DOOM for me this album really cements him around top 10 rappers of all time
love this format for reviewing🙌
Raid holds a special place for me as it’s the first MF DOOM track I heard. Was jamming at work and it came up in my suggested songs. The beat hooked me first then I just dove headlong into his catalog.
Awesome! For me it was from Boondocks when you see Huey fight a guy with an afro and the background plays ALL CAPS. I remember searching then I ended up hearing the whole album and falling in love.
@@hawkeyedsentinel4648that’s wassup! For as long as I can remember Rakim was my favorite MC, but after digging into DOOM he became my new no.1
@@reggiejones907 bro normally I'm not sad with famous actors or artists that pass away but for MF DOOM it was sad because we have no idea who he is behind the character you know. I wished for an album about him personally as Daniel Dumile. Its like having a real character that disappeared all of a sudden.
THIS is how you do reaction content. Earned a new sub
All time favorite album of mine, one of the first vinyls I ever added to my collection! RIP to the villain DOOM
PS: Wishing you all the best there in Paris! Hopefully everything is ok
thank you :) it did take some digging to understand a lot of the lyrics, that's why they're added after the fact lol
and thank you! doing well here 🫶
This is the best formated album review I've heard
whenever you react to an album i never heard before, i listen to the album on my own first and then i come back to see ur reaction afterwards, i feel like others that watch you probably do this too
"Everybody talkin bout pistols, gats is borin
Came with a new topic to flip you,
Vats of urine "
RIP DOOM
Never seen your content but earned a sub off this vid alone. You should do Aesop Rock.
Meat Grinder and Rhinstone Cowboy go so hard
Path, you have very thought provoking insights and its really nice to see your live reaction, keep it up !
Fun fact: MF DOOM is British. It’s really an ASAP Rocky situation where he was brought to America before he could be vocally colonized, but it still counts and I would like to say he LAPS Skepta easily.
I think you mean 21 Savage instead of Rocky lmao
Confused me for a wee second
This album is incredible, i recommend MM… FOOD as well, both are masterpieces
YESSS UR GONNA LOVE THIS I ALREADY KNOW
There is no cohesive flow to it?!😅 This is flowing like nothing else. It‘s a Villains‘s stream of consciousness. All tied together by reoccuring lyrical and musical motifs and the specific overall feel and production.
LOL i think i meant storyline flow or messaging
Finally my request on the subreddit! Glad you covered this, one of my favortie Hip Hop albums
thank you for the suggestion:)
It’s not a path reaction unless there’s a classic hand over the mouth while listening
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LOOOONG!!! AWESOME!!
Figaro is widely considered to house DOOM’s best verse of his career, and is even said to be his best song in general. Love this album, RIP DOOM🙌
I really like take me to your leader by king geedorah and shades of blue (madlib invades blue note). The latter is madib using the entire blue note catalog to make an album. It’s *chef’s kiss*
22:03 That was so cute 😭
Yoooo glad you finally got around to this! I've loved this album since my dad introduced it to me. Just holds a lot of nostalgia. Thanks for the reaction
20:54 bless u
watching someone else experience the joy of discovering one of my favourite albums ever brings the same now as listening to it for myself the first time
plEASE listen to utopia by travis scott. it’s AMAZING (big fan btw)
I could listen to you speak all day!
Much love and peace on Earth.
you look like jonathan from stranger things
Kinda 😂😂
I love how the reason the encore happens in rhinestone cowboy is because doom didn’t rhyme the whole of the phrase Rhinestone cowboy. So him saying “no no enough” is him saying “come on I can do better than that don’t cheer for that” as he proceeds to do MUCH better than that.
its so dope seeing someone who doesnt MAKE music, listen like this. It means a lot to us
Yoooooooo, glad you enjoyed it!
