I usually bank the sentimental items because I feel guilty selling them.
But... but the gold!
@@VivaLaDirtLeague 2 gold? I prefer to conserve it :D. Its a unique weapon after all.
You know...one of a kind ;)
HAHA good to know I'm not alone. I've also finished Fallout 4 (somehow) without selling the wedding ring from the start of the game.. Literally zero use for it.. I barely even knew the couple before hand.. still couldn't throw it away.
I steal them lol
every bethesda game sinceoblivion, this has been my first console command "player.modav carryweight 10,000"
I am a hoarder. i never sell my shit because i'll never know when i will need it lol
"Aw, now I feel guilty about selling it. Can I buy it back?"
"Sure, it'll be 2000 gold"
peanuts. In The Witcher 3 accidently selling an epic weapon would have you buying it back for 10 times that amount. That is why I save before going to any merchants.
@@brucechmiel7964 2000 gold is 1000 times the amount though.
Classic Bodger.

Until storage space becomes an issue.
I rack sentimental weapons or improve them till their above my current weapon
That's why you store it at a locker at home.
Just hide it in chest or somewehere a lot of games have places where you can store items

Ah yes, my favorite genre, SentiMetal.

Made of Sentimental steel?? Don't you mean: made of SentiMetal?? (^-^)

...Cripes. You beat me to it. (^^;)
I cannot believe how they missed that potential pun completely! The sword was made of sentimetal!
"I name you Thane of Whiterun, and give you this axe as a badge of your office!" *Axe of Whiterun is sold two minutes later*
@Benny/ top of the tops I disenchant it and move it to my swords
@Benny/ top of the tops You are using melee weapons as mage ? HERESY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEGONE YOU DAMN HERETIC !
@Benny/ top of the tops bruh you can get your mana up from the restoration skills.
@Benny/ top of the tops I present to you...conjured weapons.
@Benny/ top of the tops it only uses mana once. Plus, it comes with soul trap
Who'da thought that releasing his grandfather's spirit from the sword would also de-power the sword of all sorts of amazing, *legendary* abilities?...
It would be cool if the quest had an "evil completion" option where you could force the grandfather's soul to stay trapped in the sword so you get a better weapon.
@@MarkDeSade100 it might become the Morty weapon ha ha ha
Not bad. But I was hoping he'd go... "Shop..." And sell it to Greg. :D
Nailed :D
I thought the same thing. Perhaps another adventurer will complete the quest as well soon.
With the latest patch, Greg is not a vendor anymore. You should've known that...
Exactly what i was expecting ;)
I expected the same, but it hurts Greg much more if he just sells it to Bodger who just melts it :D Otherwise Greg would have it back and that'd be good for him
This has always annoyed me in RPGs. That and the unique items that aren't actually unique except for maybe a name (Looking at you, Skyrim!). Or when you get some legendary artifact weapon but the stuff you can craft yourself is infinitely better (Again, looking at you, SKYRIM.)
When I first saw Dawnbraker I was shocked, then I saw my sword damage and.... fuck.
This is one reason I rarely bother with crafting in Skyrim - I don't *need* seventeen bajillion points of damage on a sword, and if I'm just knocking around with whatever the last half decent thing I looted was, Daedric artefacts and the like actually still feel like an upgrade most of the time.
And this is where is feel the witcher series come on top. The weapons you get as quest rewards are actually pretty good.
Diablo 2 did it first.
Well crafted items in games usually is the best since their stat are not fixed like unique items , but crafted items need a lot of resources to get the full potential .
Say what you will, that "Thank you Grandson" always chokes me up a little. Even when they're taking the piss, they can still warm the heart 🙏🏽🤣
Greg is a noodle muffin.
To date, the only sentimental weapon that actually becomes powerful in the final battle is your father's sword in neoquest.
Occasionally I get so swept in the random sentimental story that I actually just keep the shitty gear and never sell it. It just piles up in my inventory. At the end of the game I'm like a walking museum of touching NPC stories. :-D
damn...I just keep sentimental items in the chest
I keep unique weapons I never use and just sell duplicates of weaker weapons I find lying around
The fingerguns at the end XD
👉👉
@@VivaLaDirtLeague *fangasp* I'll never wash this comment again!
@@mdibbets Sentimental fingerguns...
Oh damn I don't know how I never noticed that.
I just keep such stuff as a trophy. So when I complete the game and look back at these things, I remember their stories and how I got them. It's also give me a feeling of being a collector who have all the interesting things collected
Same, especially if there's a mechanic allowing you to wallmount or place stuff in your home. it's nice to have like the first legendary/named item you earned hanging there and reminding you of the good old times.
"Thank you Greg the Garlic farmer. I would be more than honored to continue the legacy of this fine..." *-37 dmg*
"... Umm You know what? All though it's true this sword's story not finished, it shouldn't be me who be it's author. Here Greg the Garlic Farmer. I can think of no one more worthy than you to be that author.
Just upgrade it at the anvil and add a couple enchantments
Never seen a game with that dialogue option for useless quest items. Besides it's usually a lot more that 2 gold, or can be broken down for useful crafting materials
Imagine if NPC dialogues were this fleshed out and well-acted in actual games. Not just a monotone, "Thanks. Here's your reward."
Ethan McDonald Some are getting there. Still, you can kinda tell they get less writing, animation, and voice acting effort/resources than the main story.
Skip...
I hope CDPR does this!
@Dracoth Begone And literally nothing you find is as good as the Grandmaster Witcher gear, which again is crafted. Aerondight comes close, but it requires an insane amount of micromanaging, and by the time you hit your opponent 10 times squarely, the fight will nearly be over already, even on Death March (on a green build with Euphoria that is). Crafting should be a management system, not the all powerful trump card it is in most games.
@Dracoth Begone Exactly, well said. I think a game that did gear systems really well was Dragon's Dogma (Dark Arisen), partially because it didn't have an enemy scaling system. Enemies simply had a set amount of stats, and if you couldn't get past their defense, well tough shit. This made it feel extremely rewarding when you finally found that new weapon and the materials to upgrade it, so you could suddenly damage and beat foes you couldn't before. But the nice thing about Dragon's Dogma was that even when you got really strong, there were still plenty of enemies that could put you on your ass as well. So it had a good progression system, but unless you perfectly planned a single encounter, you were never overpowered against the more dangerous enemies.
Eeeeeeepic bodger the blaaaacksmiith, he's the beeeest

I love the games that have the very early weapons turn out to do easter egg damage to bosses. One of my favorites, the starting sword in Neoquest was your father's. It does almost no damage. Literally any other weapon is better. ....Until the very final boss that you swore to destroy. Then it deals max damage hahaha.
I always keep chests of quest rewards in rpgs. They were gifts darn it!
Crach an Craite: "Geralt, I cannot help you fight the Wild Hunt, but I can offer you this sword, Winter's Blade. It is said it was made in Mahakam, and tempered in Dragon's fire."
Geralt: "Thanks, I'll break it down for its materials."
Crach an Craite: "No, I mean use it in your fight!"
Geralt: "You kidding? This is a steel blade, I need silver for the Wild Hunt. Besides I got Aerondight in my last play through, so it levels up with me."
Crach an Craite: "What in Freye's tits is a play through?"
Geralt: "I'll tell you over a game of Gwent. You play?"
Crach an Craite: [Nods]
I just sell them to the "too. It h swords" Smith that doesn't actually sell weapons. Also what are those prices for you see in the inventory? Nobody pays anywhere near that and you don't even buy them for that price. So what's the numbers for?
@@kriss3d Perhaps it's a theoretical upper limit which they run a diminishing return equation against, based on other attributes such as reputation or skill. So maybe the maximum possible buy or sell value is actually significantly lower than the list value.
I actually gone and reminded myself of that exact sword's name, before seeing your comment. And it looks pretty cool too! Breaks into utter garbage so, I can't keep at least a part of that promise and reforge it into something exceptional to go into battle with. It joined dozens of other unique looking swords for a long wait for half a dozen display spaces in Corvo Bianco. Didn't make the cut. That room was too dark for it.
My girlfriend had me doing the Gwent stuff for her, and ehile I was at it I got the sword and was super stoked about it and she's just like "What the fuck? No. This is garbage, I'll just sell it"
Absolutely ruined the game for me and after I finished the Gwent quest lines I never played it again
Perfect! 👌
So true...unless you're playing Skyrim, in which case it will sit in a case for all time.

This is why smart devs make "legendary" items scale by level, or in the case of a non-weapon give it some sort of special effect that will always be useful.
And in reality it was a growing weapon - getting stronger by defeating more and more enemies :O

Unfortunately, this post is out of order and was not ended rightly.
You forgot the breastplate of Argon ;)
Skallagrim's pommel? But it's got the highest stats. Sure it's single use but that's still one enemy guaranteed to be ended rightly!
Also, you forgot the armoire of invincibility.
Idk why but "thank you grandson" got me lol
In any game that has a quest reward like this, I tend to keep the reward. As it reminds me of the help I gave and how helpful I was that someone was able to trust me enough to something that meant that much to me.

Bodger just loved doing that to Greg, I know it.
Epic NPC man is my favorite series from you guys, since I'm such a RPG nut! Great job!
About 50 secs in and i knew exactly where this was going
I actually thought another one would come with a "sentimental sword" which would make the situation awkward.
10 seconds for me. Just did that with the An Craite Heirloom Sword...
I knew right around 1:59
Considering the sword belonged to a sword master who defended Honeywood, it probably had a hidden stat that was like "does quadruple damage to any being that is assaulting Honeywood". Rip magical ghost powered sword.
I love the sound of the WoW flying mount flapping its wings in the background. Nice touch.
Seeing this again I cant help but think it would be pretty awesome to see Greg the garlic farmer wield that sword.
That's why i love the new assasin creed system, you can upgrade your favourite weapon to match your level.
Rowans version - Skip, SKIP, skip skip, OH SKIP.
VLDL, I applaud your beautiful titles. No spoilers in them this time. Thank you a million times.
I love the double point at the end. cherry on the top of a wonderful video pie :D
Legit had an npc given me that sword with that story and emotion, idve carried it to the end and try to slay the final boss with it lol.
Not an NPC, but this is why I finished borderlands 2 with nothing more than Kriegs buzzsaw. His story was so sad and traumatizing, I had to finish the game and save the siren with only his buzzsaw.
His grandfather must have been a boss, defending the town with negative modifiers. That's a true champion.
(Either that of they didn't really need defending) ;)
I don't think it has a negative bonus. It might just happen to be that the player has a more powerful weapon already that trumps the sentimental sword's stats.
Yeah it means - 37 compared to your currently equipped weapon.
Eg current sword does 237 damage but grandfather's sword does 200.
@@alkaholic4848 Fair enough but I choose to believe that his grandfather was a chad and intentionally used a worse sword ;)
That's what player homes are for. Putting sentimental weapons and armor into.😊
I really laughed at the fingerguns at the end. These guys are great!
Yay! More NPC man
Yeah i'm the guy who just can't sell them because of sentimental value.
For example in Witcher 3 you get Ciri's sword at the end of the game. I had better blades but I put it in my storage chest as to never sell it by accident.
Later when I got my own house I put it on display with some of my other sentimental or epic blades.
Sooooooo excited you guys posted a new Epic NPC Man!
Rewatching these guys again. Why are the vids that good that it feels like I'm watching them again for the first time
Damn this happened to me while playing the witcher 3. Remember that lvl 24 quest where you have to help that elf blacksmith get his supply of iron so he can make swords again and he promises you "a sword fit for killing gods"? After you finish the quest wich is not easy he gives you a lvl 11 sword, and he is so proud of his work too. I felt so bad I couldn't bring myself to sell it back to him so I sold it to another blacksmith far away from there.
Good mornin', nice day for sentiments ain't it?

shit deep deep shit since comments can obviously be made simultaneously who ever knows who is REALLY first. All I could see was when I was typing and then afterwards was that there had been 0 views and 0 comments so I could only go off what I saw ? I also corrected you with your statement of me stating or acting like I was deserving of any attention special or otherwise. In fact, my option on the video was the first comment that you chose to ignore. So now that we’ve both picked and corrected each other I guess we’re finished. Unless of course you wish to continue with this ignorance, lol.
seriously, "sentimental" weapons should be leveled to your character, i can't tell you how disappointing it is to go through all the work and bother to go through the trouble to get a "special weapon" only for it to be worse than all my current gear!
And not just levelled to be similar but to be significantly better too. If it's only useful for half an hour before a random nobody bandit drops one with higher stats, it still feels very disappointing.
@@alkaholic4848 very true, in fact, why not make special weapons that evolve AS you level up?
make them rare so it's not a tedious extra stop as you're playing, but have it so another chart pops up that lets to choose how it upgrades (at the cost of a previous perk perhaps) but also get to choose new details about it? maybe decide a new blade (shape or length) a new cross guard or pommel!
bethesda could take some notes, because a "special" named weapon that looks like any other that you can virtually recreate by getting a weapon with similar abilities that you can break down and transfer to another weapon at which point you can name said weapon whatever you want virtually removes every last "special" quality about it...
This was by far the best video.
