My major weekly frustration is groceries. The cost is defeating.
I've broken shopping down in increments of four days but everytime the prices higher. Ive cut so much out.
As I look at your video, seeing the detergents, that has been slashed in my budget. I buy housebrand detergent. I replaced cleaners with vinegar, bleach, baking soda as agents.
I also shifted when I do laundry AND pull the plugs from the outlets when finished. Lol ..my electric and gas bills reduced 10.00 dollars.
Every little bit helps and I needed something to encourage me today.
You sound very wise.
This Mother's Day my Husband instead of paying a fortune out to eat he's making me linguini with meat sauce, and pureed marinara. For desert he's making cupcakes and the three of us can pick favorite frosting, and one topping. Have A Wonderful Mother's Day Everyone ❤💐
Sounds great!
Sounds as though you'll have a wonderful Mother's Day!
So sweet!😊
My family did a bbq for the moms so we all pitched in. Worked well
@@erikaletty Sounds as though you had a good time!
I water things down like liquid soap. Buy only generics and store brands. Those usually work just as well as name brands. I mend and fix vs just throwing things out and buying new. I keep the temperature in the house moderate. Combine driving trips for errands. Buy high quality things that take a beating like shoes (less replacement cost). Don't go out to eat much. The list goes on ... My daughter thinks I'm a dork but I quietly explain to her the only reason we can afford to live in a nice house is Mama's penny pinching.
Excellent tips
I second the idea of going through your fridge and freezer. You get the benefit of having it cleaned out. Plus you can really look and see what you have.
When I get cookbooks from the library, I take pictures of the recipes I like and save them to my computer. I can then access them easily or print if I wish.
That's a great idea!
Great idea!
I have been cutting back on how much I’m eating. I figure out how much a serving size is and that’s what I eat. The food lasts longer. I freeze leftovers for another time. I do laundry every 2 weeks. It’s just me so I can do that. I have enough undies and washcloths to last 2 weeks. I hang my wash to dry. I bought a foldable metal clothes rack that I use indoors or outdoors for laundry. I’m retired but still work part time. My boss buys my lunch everyday and I eat half for lunch and the other half for supper. I only drink water and 1-2 cups of coffee a day. I stock up on things I need when on sale.
Fantastic
Wow, so nice of your boss! You're doing a great job!
Wow! That's super great! ❤😊
My husband and I are in our 70s. We used to like to drive to a lake that's about 10 miles away for a weekly 5-mile walk. During the pandemic we stopped doing that and developed a route to walk 5 miles in our own neighborhood. That means we're saving about 4 gallons of gasoline each month by eliminating those weekly 20-mile, roundtrip drives. This also gives us a chance to chat with people in our own neighborhood. The one weekly long walk is in addition to our twice a day shorter walks--all done without driving anywhere.
I love hearing this
Maybe you can do the drive to the lake once a month if you enjoy it. Nowadays everything is so accessible that we have to re-sensitize ourselves to the small joys of life by making them occasional treats instead of having them all the time.
@@Saturn57 True. Right before the pandemic we had a plan to find a trail out in nature to do once a month. I know we should get back to that plan. Nature is so restorative!

Wishing you a very Happy Mothers Day Dawn!!❤💐
Same to you!
I love my paper towels too
I save money on electricity by timing my water heater and setting my AC to 80.
Taking care of washer and dryer us very important.. I hear! Happy Mother's Day
Thank you! You too!
It also helps with the dryer filter to not use dryer sheets.
I make a point of not going into any stores on Saturdays and Sundays
😊😊
I saved money today by:1) hanging my laundry up on a line in my basement to dry instead of using the dryer 2)turning the heat on for about an hour this morning to get the chill out (it was 59 degrees in the house) & then shutting it off and 3) spending zero money! xoxo
One big thing that everyone can do to save money is to pay cash or use a debit card on new purchases. Some store credit cards are now charging 33% interest rates. Wow!
We keep trying to cut back on everything!
Cooking at home for 90% of our meals. 😊
100% agree about the scent of Fabuloso! Perfect if one has pet odors! Great vid! ❤
It's so good!
I LOVE the green apple scented Fabuloso!
Last Saturday I picked up a "Too Good to Go" surprise bag from a fancy deli/butcher. I paid $6.99 for it and I got meal size portions of baked ziti, tuna fish cake, roast beef and turkey and some stuffing. Hubs and I had the roast beef and turkey tonight. I loved the stuffing cause it got nice and mushy in the turkey gravy that I brought up from my pantry.
That is awesome!
I use bamboo paper towels. You can wash them out. 1 roll lasted for more then a year
I’ve looked at those and wondered about how they work out. Glad to hear they last!
I had not heard of that
Where would you buy these washable bamboo towels? I'm from canada.
That's 😎
@@sjbutler2330I bought mine off Amazon about a year ago & still have half the roll.
If you have a lot of children at home, here's a recipe for making your own instant hot cocoa:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk to combine. 5C powdered milk; 1C powdered creamer (I use french vanilla); 2C sugar; 8oz can of powdered cocoa (I use Hersey's Natural Unsweetened).
To make: Place 2T-3T, depending on how rich you like your hot cocoa, in a mug and pour in boiling water. Yields 154T, about 50-75 servings. Store in half-gallon mason jar using a white plastic lid. P.S. At Christmas time, ground uneaten candy canes to a powder and add it to the cocoa. Peppermint cocoa mix costs about $18-$22 currently for 22 servings, about a dollar a mug. The above recipe is about $.23 per mug.
Thank you much
We only drink water . No soda etc. and I stopped buying snacks, crackers, chips etc. I buy real food and cut way back on processed food. I can’t believe how much I save ,it’s just my husband and me now.when our boys were home they got to pick out whatever goodie they wanted for the week.
Terrific healthy habits!
Very smart
I love doing needlework and crochet, but I have so many un-started kits already. I'm not buying any more until I finish all my other projects. I even listed a few kits on ebay because I had way too many.
My daughter loves it to
I'm saving money on powder detergent by using a measuring spoon to measure detergent. I learned recently that new washing machines only require 2 tbsp of detergent max bc they are energy saving. Anything extra will not get rinsed properly. I thought I wasnt putting much but using a measuring tbsp instead of a random cup reduced our monthly consumption to HALF the amount of detergent AND laundry is still cleaned properly and doesn't smell musty like it did sometimes.
I literally use 1 tbs of liquid laundry with TWO drops of Dawn dish detergent.
Careful. 1,200 of beauty products in the US are banned in Europe because they cause cancer.
I try to keep buckets of water in my freezer if I don't have it full of food.
I've heard that it is most efficient that way.
Happy Mother’s Day
I finally had an opportunity to use the dryer sheet hack on a saucepan that needed some heavy duty cleaning. It worked great!
Great tip!
I'm doing some of these things this year also. I'm going through the freezer and cabinets and not going to the stores. I hope to use up what I have and then go restock on fresh items. I am also trying to start baking. Thanks for the tips.
A wonderful little boy down the street hugged me and told me I smell like laundry. LOL so now I take one little bottle of All or whatever little laundry soap and take a big bottle to make a big gallon of it with hot water. I figure there's body oils and soaps from baths on our bodies so I don't need all that soap. I like a clean, uncluttered home so I've been using up as much stuff as I can to feel more peaceful. Good tips!
I love that little boy
I love Bath and Body Foaming Hand Soap…so I always pour half of the bottle into an old bath and body container and fill up with water…so 2 for the price of 1. Also buy when it is 2.95 a bottle and I have a 25% off coupon. It is a great way to save on something I enjoy using in my home.
I live it to
I'm still buying too much food. I guess this is a holdover from Covid, but I'm going to break this habit now! That money needs to be for my emergency fund and Xmas fund. Not sitting in my fridge. If I'm throwing away ANY food, then I'm buying too much.
I hear you
It's easy to buy too much! Good luck cutting back!
Mother’s Day, we generally go and get plants at the local market. This year I’ve asked that our plants be divided and moved instead. Free and it helps the plants/gardens. Irises, peonies, foxglove, comfrey and some bushes will be placed instead. I’m really happy with my choice this year. Thought of it because of this channel- thank you.
Thank you much
This is a great idea!
Terrific ideas!
I bought a big bottle of generic tums for $4.79 but i really didn't use many. So i decided to use one tum + tbsp of baking soda in dishwasher. My husband thought i was crazy. But tums are calcium carbonate and baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Both are key ingredients in dw powder. And easier than homemade powders ive made with 4 or 5 ingredients.
How smart. I did not know that
You know I love a home tour! Great tips throughout the house. Love to all, Linda 💕
So glad!
Nice you should do meal prepping videos on what you make that would be nice
Great idea
Line dry all washing or hang it indoors next to a dehumidifier. Limit soda so don't drink it every day. Have started using smaller amount of laundry detergent and shorter /cooler wash cycle.
Good for you!
Soda is so bad for you 😮
I made cloth napkins & use old wash cloths instead of paper towels. I hang my clothes on the line outside. I buy powdered drink mixes & reuse bottles/jam jars to store them in so i have a variety ready to choose from. A 52 oz bottle of juice is usually $2.50 but if i make my own, it's about 38 cents for 64oz. 😊
Great tip!
I am using less dishwashing detergent in my machine. I found dishes still get clean. I scrub off pots or messy panns before or soak dry food. Wash on short cycle. Not going out to eat for Mother's Day. Only buying underwear and 1 pair of Brooks shoes as I have achilles heel and plantar facisas.
Great tip!
Happy Mothers Day! ⚘⚘⚘
Same to you!
There’s nothing wrong with using paper towels. I don’t have a washer and dryer so I go through about a roll of paper towels a week. I only do laundry twice a week and paper towels make it much easier for me than dirtying a dish towel. Regarding saving money, I buy all of my home decor and kitchen ware at thrift stores and garage sales.
I hang 95% of our clothes up outside on a clothesline. Cheaper than a dryer, free exercise, and our clothes last longer.
I’ve always cooked in bulk and reheated leftovers and froze extra servings.
I need to be better about cleaning out my frig. It’s my least favorite chore so I do one shelf at a time, on different days. 😅
You are doing great
Memory Lane. Mother's Day used to be celebrated the second Sunday of March. It still is in the UK & Europe. Everyone gave mother a pot of daffodils, aka Jonquils, for Mother's Day. That is still the tradition overseas. Mothers would plant their daffodils out in the garden after the blooms were spent. It got changed in the USA so that people would take mother out to a restaurant for Mother's Day, and that would boost the economy. Daffodils are not sold in the month of May.
One 6pk of paper towels last our family about a year. We try using old rage for messy messes we use the ugliest rags and throw those away. I mostly use paper towels to drain or tap oil off foods.
That's a great frugal tip! ❤
Same here
Shopping my freezer and pantry and trying to make meals with mostly what I have on hand. Not making too much it’s just my husband and I. We eat leftovers for lunch . Using less laundry soap, clothes clean just as good on less. Keeping my house dark during the summer months and AC on low or 78 . Not doing unnecessary shopping like for clothing, decor, etc. that’s not needed. Sewing socks with holes, patching my husbands work pants. Taking care of what we do have so it lasts longer 😊
Sounds great!
I love the simple but effective tips we share here. ** Natural solutions for the yard and the dog children.. LAWN FUNGUS AND FIRE ANT TREATMENTS: I learned how to use a baking soda solution to kill fungus on lawn instead of buying Scotts Disease X. I boil water to pour on fire ant mounds where they come up through the concrete. If the fire ants are in the lawn, I learned that spreading some corn meal works to move fire ants away (sometimes it kills them, sometimes it doesn't), and corn meal also can help kill off fungus in the lawn. I am so surprised! Right there, saved $100, didn't poison the dirt or kill off beneficial insects. * FLEA AND TICK CONTROL ON DOGS: I do not use flea and tick solutions on my dogs (old vet said they cause cancer, and I believe him) - flea combing, and a spray down from "skin-so-soft" mixed with water, as well as spreading a bag of diatomaceous earth (DE - get it at your tractor store cheap) on their yard, has worked great for us, even in "terrible flea years." I only know it is a terrible flea year from talking to others, this combo I use at my house has worked really well for 20+ years. The DE stays good in the soil for over five years before it has to be "refreshed. That has saved me a lot of money, and my dogs have not been exposed to any solutions that put poison in their tissue. They do seem to enjoy better health, no allergies, and live close to 15+ years going this safer way. * EAR INFECTION PREVENTATIVE AND TREATMENT: Blue powder ear solution for dogs (and humans, especially children who swim): 1 pint of rubbing alcohol 70% is good (pour out a little), add in 2 Tbs. Boric acid powder, and 20 drops of Gentian violet. (you can find out about this solution on the internet - a vet told me about it). I use this on my dogs ears once a week. If I think I smell fungus in their ears (I smell their ears every day), I will use it five days in a row. My dogs all have very deep ear canals, and none of them have had an ear infection since I started this routine many years ago. Prior to that, each and every ear infection was running at least $200, PLUS $40+ for one 0.5 oz. bottle of ear medication, and the dog children suffered while they got well. How I use it: I call out "ear juice," and they all hide!! I never trick them about medication or grooming. They need to trust me. I go and get them when it is time for meds or grooming. That way when I call them for "Love," they come. All true. The dogs are much smarter than their human. To apply the "ear juice." I use a catsup squeeze bottle to administer it down into the ear canal, and then I rub the base of the outside of the ear, to work the solution down into the canal gently. They forgive me quickly, as they get a little piece of chicken when they are done. If I have even saved 10 trips to the vet over the years about ear infections, that means I saved $2500, and my dogs did not suffer. Win-win.
One of the best things about this channel is the helpful hints from everyone! You always give good advice. Thank you!
Thank you
I love you
Im splitting meat up into serving sizes to freeze. I buy bigger pack and repackage them.
Wonderful
I found an even cheaper way to buy cleaners. Do you remember the day the world went crazy in March 2020, where people went to supermarkets and hoarded cleaning products? I could not find any so I went to my local hardware store and bought a 5 litre/1.32 gallon bottle of multipurpose cleaner concentrate. You only need 20-30ml (less than 1 fluid Oz) in a reusable spray bottle. It was $27.99 and I have not emptied the bottle.
Great point!
I buy in bulk also.....❤❤❤❤
Hi why not save more money by hanging your clothes out on the line. In Ireland we do it all the time weather permitting. But you have such good weather. Thanks Dwan love your videos.
Great tip!
Bed linen looks ok when dried on the line, but some of the clothes that we wear need ironing. a
so you use electricity and waste your time
We have bad allergies where I live, (central Texas, USA). I'd love to hang my laundry on the line, but then we're all sneezing and wheezing. 🤧
Love it! Happy Mother’s Day, my friend. 🥰
Thank you! You too!
I don't do it but I know if I only paid with cash and didn't shop on line would save a ton of money. Too easy to spend money online, need to work on this. I'm hoping to save money by stopping drinking diet pepsi. Great video, glad to have found u today.
Thank you much
🌼 Happy Mother's Day Dawn ❤
Thank you
I use my food saver which helps me to save alot of MOLLA!!
I save money by not having to wash my clothes every week. And no I don't small!! I only do washing my clothes when they are dirty....
I also save my money by not eating out instead I eat what I have at home....which saves a TON of money.....😊😊😊
Brilliant
Dawn, I love your videos they are straight to the point. I am shopping my freezer prior to buying more food. I hate wasting anything but food tops the list.

2nd tip on saving $: I'm learning about which vegis are in season and plan our meals around that and also which produce is local to my area. Produce is cheaper when in season and when it hasn't travelled long distances. I can also buy in bulk and freeze.

Hi. I looked it up on You Tube

Would you please share that baking mix recipe? I am guessing it is similar to Bisquik? That is a good savings compared to the commercial version. Thanks.

What is the exact term to use for searching on UA-cam regarding the baking mix?
