From my long time experience, I know that church employees are often left out of annual budgets. They work for years without raises while those in leadership get cost of living increases.
I'm happy that this woman is doing well, but I hope that the church will make a way to increase her salary and benefits so that she can retire with dignity.

I work in a church as a side hustle so it’s only part time but they gave me a 1$ raise after a year, a lot was due to my supervisor pushing for it but they agreed so there wasn’t much pushback.

I had a friend live with us for 6 months while she saved up for an apt. She worked full time and I had worked with her before and I knew her and trusted her. I only charged $100 a month. That pretty much was the money for extra electric, water and when I cooked the evening family meal I provided that. She bought her own breakfast and lunches. It was fun having her around for those 6 months. 😊

I watched a video here on UA-cam awhile back. This man had a corporate job and was paid well but very very stressful. So he quit that job and became a bagger at a grocery store. Got a teeny apt and rode his bike back and forth. He was single and seemed to be very happy.

I did something similar on a smaller scale. I had an office job in the medical field, incredibly stressful and I was physically ill going into work everyday. I quit and got a job as a custodian, I took a 2$ hour pay cut but to me it was worth it because I was no longer stressed out and then a year later covid happened so I’m glad I wasn’t caught up working at the hospital anymore during that chaos. Needless to say I’m much happier and adjusted what I needed to as far as finances.

There is nothing wrong with marriage…my husband gave me a nice home and the ability to stay home with my children, worked hard to pay for my college and the children’s college/ trade school. And gave me companionship, support, I have never mowed a lawn, nor painted a room, nor taken a car for service. He died of a work related disease, left me comfortable income and insurance wise. I miss him every day…what’s wrong with having a husband…how is it smart to not have one ( or to have one).

Excellent Video! Very Inspiring! It is great to hear this story. I have a Friend who lives off of 5k a year, He rents a room, Is very careful with what he buys, Does not own a car and still gets by and is a very happy person. Its not how much money you have or what your able to buy. It's all about attitude. If your miserable getting more money will just amplify that misery. But if you are a happy person on any income level that's what important, Happiness and appreciation for what you have. What does everyone else think. Is Attitude as important as i say it is!

I love that she is content with her life. That’s what it’s all about. ❤. Also, as note that is why it’s so important to give at your church, especially the small churches. We served small churches and they could only afford to pay so much to their employees. Some of them were barely bringing in enough money from their church members to cover the upkeep of the property and a modest salary for the pastor, much less support staff like nursery workers or custodians. So when you give, you are helping the church to pay the support staff too.

Also, she would be eligible for food stamps and other government benefits, also for discounted 'senior' prices. Some places give 'Senior' discounts at age 55 and up. A side hustle, or house/petcare at the person's house may bring in money as well.

First go to a good shelter you won’t need to save up a certain amount to leave you can leave much quicker and under no circumstances( be careful of blurting things out in an argument)that you are leaving( they say the most dangerous time for a abuse victim is when they leave the relationship) wait until you are sure he is out of the house for work, hours long fishing etc then you leave and make sure you have everything that’s important to gone with you so you don’t have to come back. If you need to come back do it with police protection. I don’t mean to go on & be dramatic but doing things that way is very important and most safe for you.

I hope all your family is well after the devastating storm that rolled through our part of Texas. My daughter is without power which has made me thankful for that Jackery I bought at black Friday prices with an Amazon discount to boot. She ran her fridge on it last night for 9 hours and still had 44 percent power left this morning. I would not advocate for a Jackery, but I sure felt blessed to have had it last night for her. It was all I could afford after the Valentines Day Freeze of 2021. Say a prayer for the Texans down here as the flooding up above me is considered old news in comparison to the Houston area plight, however more people did have additional flooding just as they were starting to clean up. More rain coming this afternoon, but hopefully no major downpours. Blessed is being able to afford electricity and the power switch working when you flip it on.

A simple example, one product I buy, and I'm very careful and frugal,...but cottage cheese. Until yesterday, it was steady @ 1.98. Great Value house brand, small container. In one day it went up to 2.24.

I'd certainly rather rent a room if it came to that than try to live in a car or RV, especially as a woman; no way no how would I want to do that unless I was ex-military or had a ton of DIY skills. More power to those gals who truly can take care of themselves out on the road or off the grid, I guess. You can certainly be content and fill your daily life with things and people that mean something to you in your own part of the world. I often think of my own grandmothers, who never learned to drive and managed to have full lives. Yes, they both had husbands, kids, grandkids and hobbies (sewing) so I know they had enough to keep themselves busy, and both would get out and walk and had a grocery, post office, and library close by in their old neighborhoods.

This lady would qualify for a free phone, phone service and internet service all found on the internet, as well as Farmers Market vouchers, available through Senior Centers/Meals On Wheels office. Depending upon age, bus passes are available in most towns. Some qualify for reduced utility rates as well reduced property taxes. Generallly, if one qualifies for reduced water/drain bills, one will also qualify for reduced electricity and gas. Proof of income is required for reduced water bill, and where I live City Hall notifies gas and electric companies. Low income people may also qualfy for reduced price garbage collection.

I understood that your friend does not have to pay ulilities, but many people do. Also, many of those on SS and Disability often live on far less than your friend. And, not everyone is aware of discounts, or things such as having a house phone for less sthan $10.00 a month which allows one to call all over the US and Canada included in basic monthly rate. One does have to purchase a router, used is about $20.00, obviously a one time purchase, but worth it.
