    That was a fantastic year for mora. I love and appreciate each of the three. I think my favorite however was the kansbol

    I "discovered" the Eldris only quite recently and I fell in love with it at first sight.
    It doesn't mean that it's without defects, but it has all the qualities that I need for a tool to be carried in most of my hiking and light trekking.
    I chose to have it in pale blue color, in order to easily find it wherever I put it. it's a "she", and her name is Marlene, like the Blue Angel. 😊
    For my taste, to be perfect it would need to be 3 mm thick and have an unvarying scandi edge all over the blade (like all the other Mora knives) and not that fancy - but difficult to sharpen by beginners - double edge.
    So said, this is THE utility knife that I recommend also to the pilgrims who walk the Camino de Santiago and Via Francigena. 😎

      That is awesome! I am glad you love it. For a small knife, there is a lot to love.

      Look at the eldris light duty that has been released about a month ago, with a regular scandi grind.

    I'm in a place where it rarely gets that cold so a folder is great for small tasks but if I was where you are I would prefer a small fixed blade like an Eldris, don't have to take your gloves off getting it out of the sheath or mess with nail nicks with cold hands. Minor annoyances most of the time but if you can avoid them, why not?

  • @jordy703

    Finally someone who doesn’t compare a Eldris with a bigger knife thats used for more harder tasks. Funny how people want to baton with a Eldris.. indeed its just a cool sturdy fine task pocket or neck (put it on your neck) knife. Thats it. A folder has a weak point and this one not because its a mini fixed blade. Love it and use it for almost everything except the bigger tasks ofcourse like batoning..
    It saves the edge of my Garberg because its a extra blade so thats great too. great review as always 👍🏼🇳🇱

      Thanks for watching this blade is definitely handy, and certainly is a great companion blade.

    I think the Eldris is much better than the Izula. Mostly because of the handle where the Eldris can be used for hours cutting wood whereas the Izula handle is awful. The base of the Eldris is great for whittling and the front of the blade is great for putting spread on bread.

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 11 місяців тому

      I agree completely. I think it’s hands down a better knife to use than the izula. I don’t get the hype around the izula. The handle on the Eldris is great, it’s very light, and easily pocketable.

      I have not used the eldris yet I'm picking one up this week.
      In saying that iv used the izula for a long time hunting fishing camping with the kids and the handle is pretty awesome but it might just fit my hands perfect more than others

  • @NorseAlpine

    I disagree. In my opinion the Eldris blade should be half an inch longer and a bit slimmer to be an acctually good carving knife, more like their Mora's 120/106 knives. Second, the Izula is a more tactical oriented knife with an about half an inch longer blade and about twice the blade thickness (0.156 inches oder 4mm on the Izula vs 0.079 inches or 2mm on the Eldris). The Izula sports a full flat grind while the Eldris has a special modified scandi grind. So while I would agree that the Eldris is much better suited for woods use, I don't think the two knives are comparable at all. I have not used my Eldris for skinning but I think thats one of it's strong points. For fine carving, I'm really not impressed by it's short stubby blade. For carving I'd take a 510 over it any day of the weak, and it's less than half the price a well.
    Just my two cents!
    Cheers, David

      Eldris destroys the Izula. Tbh I pretty much stopped buying knives about 10 years ago and sold all my Bark River, Fallkniven, ESEE, Spyderco et cetera. The reason was that Mora knives are just better. Not just for the price, but better period. I care about hiking and outdoors more than about knives. Weight is important. Nothing beats the 2000 or Kansbol. For whittling I carry a Mora 120.

      @@AlaskanFrontier1 finally bought this guy and love it, for the price I would have paid a little more for a more expensive version of it like maybe a full tang version like the Garburg. Bought the belt loop attachment. Great for hiking just a nice little utilitarian knife that I can do stuff with. Love the handle and how it fills my palm. Great video by the way.

    Good knife but absolutely ridiculous price point... Considering that most of their best sellers are $5-$10 less there is no reason that it should be still at $22+. I just bought a 511 and a Companion for less than the Eldris, come on Mora its getting a bit silly now.

    • @tor2919
      @tor2919 Рік тому

      Most of their best sellers? The cheapest knife Mora makes is the 511 and you’re saying all their knives should be that price. I’m sorry but Mora has always made premium knives too, even if you don’t know it in the states. Models like the Laplander for example. What I don’t understand is how you people give Buck or Spyderco a pass for making knives in China, but when Mora with centuries worth of history and heritage makes more expensive knives it’s a problem? The mora name is worth a lot. Certainly more than something like Buck that isn’t even 100 years old. Mora is the only production knife still made in Sweden. I hope they do whatever they need to keep it that way. A race to the bottom certainly isn’t the answer.

      @Tor My comment is 2 yrs old ... the companion was $15 , the companion HD was around $18 . The Eldris is a quarter of the material same steel same plastic sheath ranging now in the $25 to $40 depending on the one ya get or where ya buy.
      Mora's new wood handle series is the same budget sandvic steel yet $200 freaking dollars. That absolutely ridiculous and only fan boys with money to blow and reviewers who get um for free will proudly support that BS.
      I don't hate Mora they make excellent budget blades but they also overprice their products. They know that people will buy them cause it's a Mora ..good on them but that kind of pricing in this market is a stupid decision.
      They can do so I don't care buy what ya want but I ain't changing my opinion. My original comment was about the Edris which shouldn't be above $20 .

    Not sure why your making a big deal out of skinning an animal. I've cleaned ans skin Ed deer with a 3 in Gerber folder.
    I have a eldris and only fault I'd whe point on the blade where the grinds change.

  • @ronagoodwell2709
    @ronagoodwell2709 3 місяці тому

    Eldris is too short and stubby to be very useful. I guarantee you no one is using a knife like that to do finely detailed wood carving. A decent puukko with a 3.5 inch blade is about as small as you can reasonably get and still do basic wood processing.
