Thank you for the historical perspective. In our time, we are inundated with knife choices. I really like the 2000 and like the Kansbol even mora!! I find mora's easy to sharpen and maintain in the field. Awesome fire pit. In the mountains of the southwest, we can not be too careful with fire.
When cutting anything like food always curls those finger tips in and show the blade your knuckles (2nd joint) or you'll be picking up your finger tips
Finally, someone using this knife in the right way. Not trying to chop a tree down and beating it with a rock, then calling it crap. Good job, thanks for the review.
Great vid as always, just ordered my kansbol and hidden woodsmen haversack both based on your reviews. Please do all of your viewers a favor and keep up the great work because it is always guaranteed to be great content when i get a notification that you uploaded.
Great video, great knife. Just got my Kansbol today and sharpened it in my favourite shallow scandivex grind with my wet stones finishing with leather strop. It holds sharp edge better, and glide easier when it comes to feather sticking, de boning games, and dressing fishes. It also baton better because of less drag and friction. I have a suggestion. Whenever batoning put your stick on a wood board or some trunk, lumber, or timber. It prevents unwanted hitting of blade to some stone.
i have been watching your videos lately and i must say your one of the better youtubers on youtube im so happy i stubmled upon your channel keep up the great work👍
Gonna admit that fish cleaning was hard to watch. If you anchor that floating thumb in the gill, you'll have better control and less likely to fillet your thumb, had me worried there. 😳 nice review, another good vid.
@@haleskiss I cut the spine behind the head first to make sure they are dead/ don't feel anything and put my finger right on the spine to hold it. I also cut the head off by slicing behind fins and gills and pull out all the guts with the head..
Never thought i finished your 15 minute review which i doubt in the first place. I almost never seen a review above 10 mnt or without fast forward. Doesnt seem to get enough of this video. Top review compare to others, simple english easier for non native english speaker to understand..very good and useful demo i can say i have a thorough knowledge of the knife to make up my mind and purchase the knife
I don't own one yet although I do own a lot of Mora's. I do have the Mora light my fire which is a smaller version of that blade with a ferro rod in the handle. Great for backpacking!
Ok, that is the best knife review possible. That is what 98% of the people will be using this type of knife for in 90% of the cases. Including me. Ordering my kansbol now. Thank you.
I own a few Moras and I love them all, but I recently got a Kansbol and it is quickly becoming my favorite. It's one of my sharpest knives and it is by far the most versatile, I can't believe all the things it can do. It is the most well balanced knife I own so far and it is such a joy to use it. Only thing that keeps it from being perfect is the fake leather belt loop... I really dislike fake leather, but I'll give a chance and see how it holds up. That being said, the Kansbol deserves A LOT more recognition and it is one of the best knives I have used in my life so far. For the price? You can't get any better.
Thanks for the vid it was awesome! I can't wait to clean a trout now. As for the knife I pick it really doesn't matter because I've seen so many reviews on them both. Both great knives.
Just to update, I’ve had my Kansbol for a over a month now and absolutely adore it. My knife collection consists of Companion and HD companion. Garberg Carbon and the Kansbol and the Eldris and I purchased for £11 the Mora wood carving basic which is the sharpest blade I’ve ever brushed my thumb against 😬 lol. The only knife I have that isn’t a Mora is the USA 🇺🇸 made Gerber Strong Arm 💪 which is the best ball aces blade I’ve ever held in my hand and such a beast. I really love your channel and always puts a smile on my face when I get notification of new vids.
My favourite Mora is the 2000 and a Kansbol is all the things that needed improving on the 2000. If I ever bought another Mora it would be a Kansbol. Got tired of the plastic sheaths, they seem to misshape and not hold the knives at awkward times, will be interested to see if the multi mounts keep their shape past 2 years.
I'm glad that I got to watch your Kansbol review since I'm getting one for Christmas. Great review! I also just watched the Garberg review and it was great also. Glad that I found your FB page and youtube.
James, The reviews are not bad, but if it's not too much to ask, would you be able to upload more videos of you doing different things in the wilderness like you used to do? I believe doing so would help the audience get a better feel of what the equipment can do while at the same time you demonstrate the level of skills needed for "X" task.
Thanks Junkyard fox. Great as always! I still have the Mora Bushcraft force which is now discontinued but very similar specs to the Kansbol. 2.5mm width seems to be the sweet spot for lateral strength, splitting kindling, whittling etc. but still enjoyable to use for food prep. I also love how the 12c27 holds its edge when stored for long periods wheras carbon steel tends to dull when i store it due to micro rusting of the edge. Yes in a perfect world id wipe and oil it always, but sometimes it just slips my mind. The 12c27 blade always stays nice and shiny. :-)The Kansbol looks like a great knife i would buy it in an instant but I cant yet part with my trusty Mora Force! The Garberg looks like a beast but my prediction is that the Kansbol will outperform it in whittling and food prep but probably falling short when splitting wood. All one has to ask is what are you most likely to use your outdoor blade for? I prefer the lightweight versatility of the Kansbol.
i completely agree, i own both the garberg and kansbol. i prefer the kansbol, i prefer its thin blade, since i dot a lot of game processing. outside of knife reviews, i never have to baton.
Hi James. I hope to see both knives reviewed so get to it. small relevance, there's lots of garberg review's , but I like your review's. . LTW then mora. thanks again for everything you do.
Brilliant how you show actual use and teach other bushcraft skills while you do it. Your reviews are top notch on a low budget. That's talent. CN on iTunes yet?
Great video James. I like your "camp knife" approach to these reviews. My vote is to review the Garberg next, so we can get your opinion of how the Moras perform relative to each other. Would be very interested to hear if you think the Garberg is worth the extra money. Then do the LT.
I’m waiting for mine to arrive through the post. I’ve got the companion and the faskars X7 hatchet 🪓 as well as all the bugging out gear I’ve been amassing since lockdown. Got get ready.
Hello James! Always a great video & it always makes me hungry! Thanks!! My vote for the next knife review is the JX3 . Also let us know when more Bandannas are available. Thanks Brother !
ive acually never had to sharpen it, i jsut strop it a few times after using it and it gets back to hair shaving sharp, it actually holds its edge better than any of my other knives.
My opinion only....any mora purchased is well worth the money spent. I am ashamed to say how many I own but it is all that I use. I have cleaned and processed dozens if whitetail dear with a companion. The forester bushcraft in green is also a very fine product from Morakniv. Very well made knives and easy to sharpen.
Nice review. Wonder how this compares to the Mora 2000? I often use the latter on my hikes, and find it excels as a camp/food prep knife. A good slicer. Not made for chopping wood though.
thsi si basically the updated verison of the 2000, same steel, similar sheath. just slightly better looking and 90 degree spine. thanks for watching, be sure to check out our other awesome vids.
glad you liked it my friend! well Matthew, i personally have never hunted or processed a deer yet(not yet anyways), so im not sure how tough precessing one is but i have processed plenty of squirrels and can easily say that this knife will do great at that.
My go-to knife is my Mora Bushcraft Black. I've used it for everything from splitting wood to butchering chickens, and the only problem I've had is forgetting to oil it. It's carbon steel instead of stainless, so it rusts quickly.
Mora also makes the bush craft forest it’s handle is just like the bush craft black but the blade is stainless steel and modeled like the Cannes ball I think you’ll really like it
kansbol is good, but I like the morakniv forest better, same blade, but my opinion is the handle is a better design. you mentioned in a previous video ragweed forge, ask Jim if he still has the forest, as this is whom I purchase all my mora knives from, great guy an fantastic service at great prices.
Say Heah James. Even though I have a Mora 2000, and it would match well with my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife. I still just use it in my Lite Mora Trio with my Mora Hatchet and Bacho Laplander. I initially got the 3V Master Hunter to team with it. But it matched alot better with my Fox Jungle Parabg which is a little similar with some suttle differences and color. Anyhow, I did ordered my Mora Kansbil which is comming later today. I ordered the O.D. Green Kansbol and the Green Eldris for at least a nice color match with my first Fox Bushcraft Parabg which also cones in an O.D. Green and attachments. Yeah, I always like the oerfirnance of my Nora 2000 which has the same blade as the Kabsbol, For me, I now have two very good combos. I also ordered the Mora Garberg which I plan to team it with my Bokor Aparro. That makes three nice sets.,,.p
You do a great job with your reviews. I appreciate how you always show the equipment doing different tasks that are expected. So practical and well thought out. Anyone who watches a review that is less than 6 months worth of testing and is not in the field is worthless. Plus, I learn alot from your technique. Thanks man! Speaking of technique, I wonder if the stainless blade sparks so well because you are good with the ferro rod, or the knife really can throw a spark well...Just a question. Finally, reive that L.T. Wright...always like their knives, but can't afford it. Is it worth it? Great work James!
thanks so much for the kind words! its actaully the spine on the knife is so sharp that it spits sparks like crazy. the type of steel doesnt matter, as long as its jageed to scratch the rod, you can even strike a ferro rod with a broken piece of glass or rock.
It would be interesting to see you compare this Mora Kansbol to the Mora Light My Fire. I own one along with the Mora Companipn HD. As for your next review....I'd like to see the Mora Garberg.
Charles Larson I have all 3 of those knives. Moras are great & the Kansbol is one of the best. I have both the carbon & stainless Companion HD, & once again I have to use that word that best describes Morakniv, great.
First review of the Kansbol I’ve seen with the proper range of applications that knife is intended for. Very well done.
8:57 cutting towards your hand made me cringe a little.
This comment is spot on.
