Gotta love all the internet survivalists. "If I can't filet a Sherman Tank with it, it's useless." "If I can't split logs with it then I'm sticking with my BK2."
Lets just be honest here for a second and remember that like 98% of people buying a knife aren't building shelters with it, they aren't surviving long periods of time with it, they aren't taking down commando attack squads with it... they're cutting up some fucking hot dogs, nipping some cordage, opening food packaging, whittling food skewers or tent stakes, and maybe splitting up little bits of kindling.
The last time I went backpacking I was out for 3 nights and forgot my fixed blade. In all honesty, I got along absolutely fine with just my GEC pocket knife. I love a killer blade as much as the next guy and I love using my knives for big tasks or long carving sessions or building things but if we cut the internet warrior bullshit I think we'd all realize the vast majority of consumers really don't NEED more than what the Eldris can do.
For what you get, the Eldris is another perfect archetype basic-use knife that is both affordable and of good quality. Fit for a multitude of general tasks and perfect for a wide array of users.
Edit: The other great thing about this knife is the weatherproofness. This is a great little knife to throw in your pack on a canoeing trip as you don't have to worry about rust or fucking up a wood handle or leather sheath.
+no name Are you referring to us or the comments on the video? I'm confused.
+preparedmind101 , I was referring to the comments. Sorry didn't make that clear at all. I think you guys covered the knife very objectively and actually understood the product and its intended use. Also, replying like this because it wouldn't let me directly reply to your reply.
no name. Like what you said and I agree.
I am from sweden. Did you know that "eldris" means tinder?
Nåja , det är en ort i Dalarna.
Thanks
I passed this knife by for a long time. And man do I regret it. Finally got one and it's a great edc utility blade. Also good for small camp tasks and skinning squirrel and rabbits!
It will skin a deer, as well. I was hunting with my cousin and he got a deer and was starting to skin it, but his blade was getting dull. I had my Eldris with me and decided to try it out. It works great, even on larger game. I can't believe all the haters talking trash about this knife. It's well worth the $25 I paid for it.
@@ryanhull1381 good stuff
Mora knows knifes ,can't deny that. Sometimes not the prettiest knife out there. But as for a tool and in use they shines.
I like this blade for edc use. Instead of using it as a neck knife, I've been putting in my pocket instead of a folder. It can take more abuse than most folders, is very sharp, and easy to use. So far, it does well in the edc role.
takes a smart man to surround himself with persons who may be more accomplished in a particular discipline or who may be able to more effectively demonstrate a particular skill for the 'tubers...
nicely done Chris...class act all around!
Great video Chris and Wil, you sold me on this small knife. I've watched many videos on this and really wasn't sold on this one, but you guys made me see the light ! Thanks.
It´s a Scandinavian knife. All knives from scandinavia are great and that is the reason we have been using them forever. It´s nice that you americans finally got it.
Great video Will. You always do a really good job and have the best reviews on your channel. You always have a good attitude.
Good video. I have one Mora already, but I think I will be getting the Eldris model to add to my outdoor collection.
Nice review, thanks to you and Will for doing it.
Mora sells an EDC fixed blade that can be carried multiple ways and that the sheath can be used to make the handle full size. Great!! I have one.
Great tool for EDC or Fire Kit...Mora makes the best knives out there...great video
awesome video! loved the real world application, it was cool how you showed the carving process and how the knife held up :)
It sure does look like a pretty cool knife. ..I like the idea that u guys pointed out that it had a full sized handle on it. ........thanks. ....excellent
This was a great knife overview man. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting, I enjoy your reviews.
Some people make disagree because they think that you have to spend big money on a quality knife. The fact is Mora knocked it out of the park with the Garberg, the Kansbol and the Eldris . Value for the money can’t be beat.
Cool knife. Thanks for the demo Will. You and Chris have a great thanksgiving day
Great little knife.
Thanks guys great job
Nice knife work Will...thanks for sharing.
I bought this knife specifically for fine work and fire starting. Perfect size blade for feather sticking! And very robust too! I'd call it the smaller brother to the Mora Robust!
nice thoughtful vid - this Mora is definitely on my list
Mine was in the mail today :-D I like it so far.The handle is awesome. Sharp as hell.
I was gonna get this knife then realized I could get like 3 511s for the same price. So that’s what I did. I love the 511s
awesome review Chris! that's a killer knife
Chris, YOU'RE A LEGEND! keep up the good work 😎
great realistic review as always. thank you.
Great knife. I own 1 now, great carving knife. Wish the blade was about half inch longer and and handle about half inch longer as well.
Thanks Dude. I just ordered one. Very good video.
I put a carabiner on it and hook it to my belt loop. I carry it everyday and always comes in handy
Seems like a good option for wood carvers, or bowyers, the small detail work.
Thanks for the video mate. Your the go too guy you got every blade covered. And tactical he's the man
Good to hear wills opinion too
I ordered one of these with the "kit" to carry and use on my thru hike of the CDT. I think it will be real handy, easy to carry, just what I need barring any emergencies. Of course, life is made up of taking risks and chances. So this small knife for me as in this situation I am trying to go very light. I own a Kansbool and wanted to take it but its too large and heavy for my needs on the trail (usually no fires, just cutting cheese and salami and things like that). Thanks for the good video.
There are many times when you just need a small cutting edge, fast and handy and that's where this knife rules. Sometimes a big knife is just too much to deal with.
This review meant a lot . Just now got 2 Eldris . One for the fishing vest and one for scuba gear . Thanks again .
I apologise for the late reply, how has the eldris held up as a scuba diving knife? Considering purchasing it as an inexpensive dive knife that I can also use on land. Thanks in advance
@@julianjohnson7908 The eldris is attached to a dive vest and works great . You may want to look for a larger dive knife for using on land .
I remember when I had my first beer.
Hey Guys! Great review. Seems like it would be a great fly fishing knife. The way it showered sparks was amazing! I could also see it being a very handy gutting knife during deer season. To the "it to expensive", everything cost more now than it did just a few years ago. Give them a break they have to make a living to!
Thx for the review.
I love little knives like this...it is like a little Finnish puukko. Very tough and good for carving and small scale tasks. Easy to resharpen too
Just finally ordered one. :-)
Hey Brother cool to see you with Chris again
Great show
I like it. Thank you for the video
Good to see Will back on the channel! Nice video as always. One day your gonna have to tell us what brand that jacket is! :)
Excellent video...nice knife...take care. ..
Overall nice, quick opening or first impression regarding the MORA Eldris. My commentary in your recent Kansbol review still rings true in my estimation without actual hands on... as in A.) Great little sales package, creative enough, that is justifiable to a point & B.) I might get one or gift one being that this little knife's neat, compact, and conservative cool has a niche for fun daily companion. It is a MORA so expectation-wise it will no doubt be simple, dependable, and of good working quality. Good job with having you and Will on for this one... Being all positive... I see generally from initial thoughts of presentation that enthusiasm is on par with the reality of what it is and what it isn't. I'd see it as quite useful for a neck knife while ice fishing as one applicable rational here in Alaska. Thanks Guys --- Have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving Chris and Will.
Been looking to see Eldris do finer work like net needle making.
Good intel TY sorry abt followup tpyo on the other post really LuV 2c a extended test result especially on the SS model ATB
I bet it's a phenomenal skinning tool
Ahhhhh, the overlooked chopper!😂
I've owned a Eldris for about 3 weeks now and I like it. No you cant baton wood with it. If I want to baton something I will use my Jessmuk..
My mora knife chipped on a glass while washing it off in the kitchen sink. It's been in my box of knives I don't use under the bed ever since. Kind of sucks because I liked the way it looked.
Very informative. Im just getting into and enjoying neck knives. Its tricky because for me I work at a school and I cant walk around with a knife swinging from my neck I have to wear it under my shirt. Im gonna have to try this! Also are you always pissed
I have one of these, a Christmas gift to myself. I like the handle material and do carry it as a neck knife now and then but I am unimpressed with this Mora stainless steel. It seems very soft to me. I think the Mora #1, #2, or 510 make better, more versatile neck knives and they are considerably cheaper.
Preparedmind101 can you try to do a review on a marttiini timberjack and the big marttiini game knife? the timberjack I had for years and both of them are a GREAT knife!
Made me think of those little blades with the two finger handle lol
Hey guys you can stick the but of the handle in to the sheath for extra length on your handle
Happy turkey day to you and your family Chris. Pass some tactical turkey lol.
My best friend at my FD came in with one of these when they were released and I'm thinking about getting the red one!
BTW, I guess I missed what the heck it was that Will Mantis was carving (?).
Dano DeMano a net needle
Seems like it might be great for Whittling
I personally don't see how "whittling" on a piece of wood adds to or takes away from the knife. In the end it all boils down to----whether or not you like the knife.
I have a piggyback rig with the Eldris attached to a kydex Buck Reaper sheath. I’ll be doing a short video to show it, if anyone’s interested.
That looks like handy little skinner!!!.
I saw one of these at work last night. Didn't get to check it out though
The information that you have provided is absolutely AWESOME!
I enjoy your videos. What kind (brand/model) of jacket are you wearing? I like it. I hope you and yours have a Happy Thanksgiving. :-)
you just sold an eldris..ordering in the morning...thank you
Excellent demo of the Eldris.
Living Survival Oh hello there other UA-camr
Living Survival Hey Ben, Thanks Toe Booty!!!
Living Survival Thanks Toe Booty!
I like this knife a lot, but I don't see why I would buy this for 24 bucks when i can buy 2 other moras for the same price. Maybe it will go down after the initial hype.
That little guy is a cutting MACHINE!
Looking to get this because it's probably gonna be great for carpentry
Have you had a chance to check out the MOSSY OAK OVER WATCH 10 inch knife?
great carver knife
Hi Chirs i think its a great stocking stuffer for Christmas i will give my wife
Edward Annable actually that is a very good idea, it is vell suited for women.
For eldris, why not just get a good simple folder like opinel or case sodbuster?
Haha, I have one around my neck right now! Great knife, great review! AND, damn you Chris Tanner, I just bought a JX4! I am really looking froward to tearing things up with it!
"Jimmy bushcraft" I like that.
what is your favorite EDC flashlight at the moment
Want it!
Small blade full size handle, thank you! Listen manufacturers!
Nice review... I can see the advantages of a small fixed blade knife, but most regular Moras do the same tasks and more. For the finer whittling tasks I just use my Barlow. Just saying....
What do u think about skinning & gutting?
I like it but not the price. A Mora Pro carbon is a more practical small knife at a fraction of the cost no?
Could you use it for skinning?
i can't believe all the hate this knife is getting in the comments. every knife has a it's own uses and purpose. sure, pretty much anything this knife can do can be done with many other knives. but there are things that it's short blade is good for. it's much easier to be in control of it and apply more force because of it's shortened size. and not everyone needs a larger knife. i mean hell, it's advertised as a neck-knife, of course it's not a "one-and-done" knife, nobody is saying it is. it's designed to be compact and convenient. besides, one can never have enough knives. i usually have three on me while hunting. a big bonus with this shortened blade, if you were running while holding it and you tripped and landed on it, it can only go in that shorter distance. see, there's positives to it.
I like it really good for hunting or fishing
How about grinding a companion or a robust to this blade size? Just saying.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I just bought one 😁
Countycomm is carrying them for 21.50. black and blue colors
Anybody know what kind of ferro rod that is I would like to buy one
Chris Can I have a link of where to get a similar fire steel that will was using?
+PREPAREDMIND101 Hey Chris, I was just wondering if you could check out some LED Lenser lights like the P5R.2 or the P7R, and maybe do a review on them. They look pretty awesome, and seem to come with some decent accessories. Happy Thanksgiving!
hi chris. i live in sweden and dont use any social media thats why im writing my question here.
i got a linder solingen defender and want to add a piggyback to it and i really liked the brous blades silent soldier ranger v2.
but every webstore saids that its out of stock.
do u maybe know when they will be avaiable again.
thank you for your time and the space on comment sector
//Robber911
Because of the funky edge on this blade, how would you suggest sharpening this blade? Can you strop it?
Ian Sanderson it's still a knife there's just a combo grind that's all
41.00 on amazon with neck knife lanyard.
What do you think about the Opinel #8?
looks like would be good skining knife
Never understood why folks sharpen the spine on a bushcraft knife as finger on spine is priority for fine work.....exactly what a bushcraft knife is for. Most carry a large ferro rod...so attach a carbide striker as weight is nominal.
Why comment that the price is wrong, or the design is wrong, if you are not in the market for the product? Same as the Garberg comments. There's a right tool for every job. These are not toys. Ultralight hikers asked for this product. Mora delivered. Problem?
Is this not an area to input your thoughts of your opinion? Or only a place to comment if of like mind of your choice....I see.
Yeah. Problem when it costs that much!
Mora makes good knives at a good price
