Complete quote : "DON'T WORRY (!) I want to crush people"
would be a good death
hei man thats why the band is called Gojira aka Godzilla
Eddie Van Halen, still contributing to great guitar everywhere.
David Campbell I love his guitars too. I have an EVH Wolfgang and it is my main guitar. So easy and comfortable to play right out of the box. It didn’t have the uncomfortably high frets of a new guitar. Definitely recommend one.
RIP
didn't he specify the price point too so it's really affordable for the 50w? not cheap but also not Diezel VH4 prices.
@@MaestroJericho not a big fan of fender but they made an amp i think will go on to be one of the long running classics, there's amps I like a bit more but they're thousands more than the 50w, hit waaayy above its price point imo once its really dialed in
the "clean" channel alone is crazy with the gain pumped, gets really large bluesy tone and great clean with the git volume rolled back,, that alone would make a great amp, 3rd channel needed some work but after adding a 12au7 in place of the first 12ax7 in the channel, knocking the presence and gain lower, gave it a good bias and lowered some high mids and a bump in low mids with an eq pedal, it slaps, there's times I hear it just practicing or in a recording and am still surprised at how nice it sounds rich smooth complex but can still roar, took some experimenting and tinkering but damn I could gush about that amp for awhile obv lol
❤ Eddie Van Halen
"It's not like axe FX or digital... it's the real deal." 4 years later Neural DSP get Archetype: Gojira out and it sounds just like the real deal. Good job.
They just toured with Metallica who were using Axe Fx!
digital in recording studio albums you can almost always tell it's digital if you've been around real and digital sound. Digital will always be inferior, but not terrible.
Based on this amp too
@@borges3099 I usually agree, but I really can’t tell the difference when it comes to the Archetype.
@@ricksterdrummer2170 I can.. Digital sounds super tinny and feels like the guitars are missing something everytime.
Joe is a fresh breath of intelligence and humble appearance in the often too cocky world of Metal.
5:12 joe duplantier playing Fade to Black, amazing, love to see it
Two of my favorite bands in one is amazing
Paraphrasing: ‘If there’s a mistake on the album, you can hear it for the human aspect....’ Gojira makes no mistakes, magma was beautiful
Nathan Thompson yeah but that isn’t saying much about a band with such a good discography.
Roy McMahan according to you? Lol fuck off casual
The most beautiful thing in metal musicians is when they on the stage, they agressive and brutal but in conversation they so nice and positive.
Exactly! People always think they are crazy MFs Bc of how aggressive the music is but most of them are some of the nicest people you’ll meet
THIS is the way you sell amps. Already hooked
Gojira has one of the most powerful and clean sound and now i know why. Fantastic band.
Dang his english is really good.
His mom was American, and also, Joe’s accent isn’t as thick as the normal French accent. Plus, he has lived in New York since the past decade, and still resides there.
Check out Opeth. Mikael Akerfeldt is Swedish, still lives in Sweden, amazing English. Listen to his singing cleans on Ghost of Perdition are amazing. Cant tell hes Swedish.
Michael Czesnozki true, most Swedish people usually learn English in school at a young age if I’m correct
@@nostalgicmind3432 yes they do! Surprisingly, they like talking in English. Swedes are very fluent in English, even listening to him talk live, he has an accent, but that's it.
I am French and when I speak English people told me I got a Spanish accent.. Never spoke Spanish in my life lmao
"You just put everything at noon. Except the gain, crank it up" that's what i like to hear
This amp sounds fantastic and I swear by it. However, it ultimately lies in the hands that play the instrument. I'm positive that Joe chose the 5150IIIs because it gave the most honest representation of what his hands were delivering. He's a vastly underrated guitarist because he's also the lead vocalist. So really, it's the perfect combination for him.
craig locicero These guys are awesom. One of the best metal bands in years, imo
Who's underrating him?
YS TR nothing complex? They have plenty of timing technical riffs, nonsense
His playing and riffs only seem simplistic. There not! All kinds of wild shit going on throughout their songs. Yet anyone can learn their riffs. Timing is a little odd at times...and Mario....😳...... when you got feet like that moving behind you.... YOU GET TO CRUSH PEOPLE!
I got a 6150+ shit is unstoppable. So boss
Lol. "except the gain. crank it up."

I love this guy. Can listen to him play that amp all day
I could listen to him talk about guitar gear all day long
My new favorite band. I just bought all their CDs the other day...see u in Brooklyn next month
Mini Surf Good job
Mini Surf I was there.
5:49 this is the greatest music lesson you'll ever learn in your lifetime. Ever. #nomids
Maybe for bedroom playing. On live settings it's usually needed to crank them up a bit if you want your guitar to actually be heard, a live guitar with no mids sounds like a frightened cat being showered with cold water
@@mrporcupine4140 a frightened cat being showered?!😂😂
@mrporcupine is right but wrong in this instance, the evh 5150iii and the Peavey 6505 just seem to have this extraordinary midrange where they just break through the live mix even when scooped, sylosis' new album is all done on the crunch channel with no mids and it sounds full as hell
Unique sound style of the band ... Emblematic and highly recognizable. These are the things that make them iconic ...
Great Band, and Great Amplifiers. 🤘...
Seen these guys twice in 5 years. He ain't.kidding. Those amps are on stage and sound brutal.🤘
That pinch harmonic riff from magma is so sweet.
We got a brand new EVH 5150 IIIS with the matching 2x12 EVH cab into the shop I work in. Fuck me silly, that thing is such a killer amp. The best amp by far we carry is the Friedman BE100 and we have an order for a couple of the Butterslax (Bill Kelliher sig model) and those have a backlog. This EVH 5150 IIIs has now taken the top honors in our amp room, and that is not an easy throne to claim. We shut down for the night I plugged it into the Friedman 4x12 cab we have. I had it up to 7 on the volume and we set off the alarm in the Chinese restaurant next door. We have never had an amp do that, and we have sold the Slash head and the YJM head from Marshall. And it sounds like an afterburner on an F-14 Tomcat. We sold it yesterday and are trying to get a few more. Badass as all hell!
How do you know what the afterburner on an F-14 sounds like?
@@FEAROWNAGE Top Gun
I totally respect what he's talking about in reference to his production choices such as trying to get a more dynamic sound rather than the crushing wall of sound and the more "human" apect comes in, but damn....
... I wanna get crushed with a wall like the first time I listened to From Mars to Sirius.
That amp is so awesome, man. I like how Joe explained the EQ part on it
Awsome video and great band. I have the 50 watt version and sounds amazing. I could only imagine what this beast sounds like playing through it.
And they really attracted my attention from first seconds on stage (first time I heard them was live in 2019 in NY) - very good music.
I think I’m way too old for this trip, at least for conventional people but truly, JOE is a leaving ICON of mine. I stumbled upon a live performance of them by accident, but I was immediately hooked. Magnificent BAND !! Exciting to watch. Totally committed to their craft, like they have no life outside their music. They look totally genuine metal beasts. Joe is the soul of Gojira, without a doubt, and the rest of the band his devoted hitmen. Joe takes a piece of dust and makes pure inventive raw diamonds out of it. There is no song of them that doesn’t bring me joy. I’m glad to have lived old enough to taste great passion again. Long live Gojira ! 👀👽😜
I love his tapping riffs on the low strings.
I saw Gojira last year, about exactly a year ago. I mainly went for the support band which was more of a post-hardcore/punk band (odd choice as Gojira opener) and my friend and I were blown away by their massive, gigantic sound. They sounded so fucking good, it might have been my favorite show, soundwise. We stood fairly in the back so no pits or WoDs to add to the experience. And their drummer! Holy fucking shitballs! His legs are like triggers from a machine gun. So accurate and never sloppy. Crazy talented band overall and great live show.
Can't wait to see you in a week!!
I love the white ASAT. Beautiful guitar.
Can't wait to see them tomorrow night!
Lol hes playing fade to black its known they love metallica
Well if it wasn't known, it is now.
who dont like metallica?
venrakdrake its To live is to die the song that he plays.. =)
venrakdrake quite a few mannerisms and outfit details inspired by metallica too... (are you alive??)
Shit, who doesn't/didn't? I'm pretty sure anyone who is into metal has a special place in their heart for old Metallica.
Such a crushing tone. 🙏
I can’t wait to have one of these. I’ll have to work hard for a while but it’ll be so worth it
Love how he plays Metallica. Like just straight up "yeah this is what got me into it"
6:00 by putting these settings at noon. I like the way he says that instead of "half way".
Yeah, i believe in French he would have said "midi" (noon) rather than "douze heures" (12 o'clock).... Nobody says "douze heures" in spoken French (like EVER).. So..
Joe seems like a super nice guy. One of my fav bands also.
LOVE these amps!!! EVH GEAR is the BEST!!!!
I just got an EVH 5150 III stealth 50 watt yesterday and I can confirm it is an absolutely crushing amp. I have 3 other heads including a Marshall DSL 100 and I run an overdrive in front of them to boost the dirty channel. The EVH doesn't need a boost whatsoever, it is an acredible amp.
Belle interview. Jamais déçu avec Gojira.
Sometimes I wish I was born in France, or Germany, or anywhere in Europe due to the fact
they all learn English early.. I was surprised how well Joe's english is.
And his metal voice is amazing. He can "scream" at speaking volume in a small room, and its not
"loud", just powerful.
bjjbrawler1 i come from Belgium, i'm 17 and i've learned english for 5 years
Believe me, the English level in France is waaaaaay worse than Joe’s...
victor13165 Joe is the only french who speaks english fluently
Linkinbizkit 2001 pretty accurate 😂
Yeah I'm sorry to disappoint you about French learning skills concerning languages.. but Joe's mother was American and he lived few years in the US. French people are not so good with learning new languages because school methodologies are awful here, I learnt way more by watching movies in English than by staying in a English classroom, although I had to during almost 14 years now
I have the EVH 212 combo. Great sound.
I love the fact that there's just one of each guitars at a time on the record. Still works as a wall of sound. A lot of people over-layer and over-correct, to my taste anyhow. I wouldn't want a denser mix, really. It's also encouraging. Don't have to do a gazillion guitar tracks to sound relevant.
When ever someone is saying they don't love or like Gojira.... they must be trolling themselves or others.... if you like metal or not.... Gojira brings so much more to the table then "just" metal
Fade to black at 5:11. Been my favorite song for years now.
I love how Joe played fade to black ❤️
Joe is one of my favorite frontman guitar players in all of metal.I like his style.
Same here. His stage presence is very different than usual metal frontmen. That Telecaster shaped guitar crowns it all.
Magma is no doubt the best album that came out...it's beautiful and powerful
Pugsley tattoos from Mars to Sirius was sick too tho, and all their albums in fact
Terra Incógnita!
best? nah..the way of all flesh and from mars to sirius are probably top
I appreciate that he uses one of his cheaper guitars live, not many musicians will use their cheaper affordable signature on stage. It sounds great too!
If I ever buy a tele style guitar, it's gonna be that one. Nice modern and sleek take on that body style. White with black binding, blank ebony fretboard, matching headstock, H-H pickup config, wheel style trussrod access(every guitar should have this), compound radius fretboard, locking tuners, 1 volume/no tone and the volume pot is well out of the way, and it's a hardtail. What's not to love? Those are pretty much my ideal features when spec'ing out a guitar. The only thing I would've done differently is gone with a plate style bridge(hipshot style) compared to the Tune O Matic style. Only because I prefer how my wrist sits on that type of bridge compared to a ToM bridge, but that's splitting hairs since I own guitars with both styles of bridges and can play both fine.
Just looked the guitar up on the Charvel website and it only retails for $599? Pretty good deal for those specs, but this is 3 years after the fact and I have no idea when this guitar came to market. Oddly enough I stumbled onto this video because of the EVH heads, but now I'm gassing for that guitar. Great.
Gojira is an elite metal band. Creative, original and accomplished. And his rig sounds fantastic.
Je connaissais pas le bonhomme (ni le groupe, à part 2/3 chansons), et ben il a l'air sympathique en plus d'avoir d'une certaine humilité. Ca fait plaisir !
This is the answer why I love EVH amp... GOJIRA !!!
this was awesome!
Yes you can play with everything at 12 on this thing and it's great. A dream.
Doesn't get any better than Gojira! \m/
Gojira is badass, great band! Peavey designed it. It's the 6505 now, Eddie took the 5150 name with him when he left Peavey to start up his own company and makes clones of that orginal amp for his EVH brand.
they're pretty much different tones at this point between the 6505 and the 5150. The original block 5150 is very scooped compared to the Chinese ones now. Ryan Bruce did a comparison video on all the main 6505s.
Saw these frenchies open for opera in Nashville at war memorial auditorium. Bad ass.
Hell fucking yea! Love those evh iii el34 !
Never met a more soft spoken guitar player talk about crushing people in such a heartfelt manner. Gotta appreciate the guy🤟
EVH should add a power scaling with the heads just like combos. It will fly off the shelves before you can count to 10.
On peut tout de même admirer toute la complexité des riffs de Gojira... x)
If you can tell the difference between a Kemper with a good EVH profile & an actual EVH in a live venue, I'll give you the golden ear award.
I wish they would make an EVH rackmountable preamp....that would be awesome!
He gets a killer sound. I really REALLY love my EVH. But my one and only (AND stupid) gripe is that the power switches are on the back. It's a silly gripe, but when your amp is against the wall at home, it's a squeeze to turn the thing on :(
Joe Oliver I agree, shit drives me crazy
Joe Oliver it is annoying but once you have kids it's nice👍 I never have to worry about my kids flipping my amp on and off.
you could always tie some kind of string like a shoestring to it and just pull on that to turn it on, you'd have to get up to turn it back off, but at that point you'll be done playing and probably going to get up to do something else
just drape the string over the top of the amp towards the front and it'll act as a pulley with the back edge of the amp as a fulcrum
Joe Oliver The resonance knob being on the back us weird too
no its not weird..i hate that also at my lbx but those guys just wanted to keep that amp small.
they should build it a bit larger and putt all the back switches at front.
its really annoying
Nice! Very interesting and I'm not even into the band! Maybe I'll give them a try now. I wish you guys would put out more el34 vids! I'd love to hear it dialed to a brown sound/hard rock type of setting.
You should definitely give them a try. IMO the most mindblowing band of this era
AaronBigsby Please do, the original sound is even better!
So did you listen to these guys or what?!?
Playing that fade to black i see, nice
He sets his gain way higher than I expected.
It surprised me aswell, especially because they have said before that they don't really use that much gain.
In the albums they do use low gain: listen to terra uncognita, its almost like an overdrive
low ass volume
There is a lot of gain in the outro riff in The Art of Dying. God I love this band.
Not enough ppl thank Eddie Van Halen for guitar tone, Evh and Peavy 5150/ 6505
Ok this amp sounds BRUTAL.
Wait till you hear this shit in person el34 or 6l6 there both monster amps blows your head off!
He's using the blue channel! I've read on so many pages that people think it's a muddy channel. It's crunchy and heavy, sounds so damn good. I think most people's ears are just broken from using Metal Zones and shit. This amp is perfect, like a 6505 and a JCM800 in the same box.
he's using the red channel
@@TheEpicLinkFreeman 0:09
He use them both on this video
Axe fx and " virtual sounds" took some hard hits here lmao
It's Joe-gear-a
You know what all great metal guitar players have in common?.....that right hand tightness and precision
In France, I’m pretty sure their language classes are really important. That would explain why his English is so good. In my German class, our teacher told us that they take learning languages very seriously in Europe.
Not at all in fact.. (I am a native French)
Most of us can't even understand English except some few words or some people like Joe
Just turn it up to 11 tomorrow night, August 5th!
*I want to crush people* "Joe Duplantier"

I use a multi FX pedal mainly cuz i'm poor. I use the amp models at noon and add an OD to boost the signal and give it extra oomph.
I think it's the best way to record guitar. It's how I do it. Sounds unbelievable.
Hey Joe what speakers are you using?? I have the 5153 50 watt with the 5153 4x12 cab. Stock speakers.
I love his vocals. But once he started playing Metallica I loved him as a person.
