      @@tedzeiller2711 There's nothing wrong with pick scrapes, they're a neat technique. The joke is Gojira uses a *bunch* of pick scrapes (as well as tapping) in their music, so not including them in a Gojira demo video is odd.

    Hey Ola, Joe definitely used a 6505 on From Mars to Sirius, but I believe TWOAF was a Jackson SLSMG with JB, a 5150 III, and Joe said a single SM57 on the cab (uncertain of what cab) but I don't believe any boosts were used. A Line 6 POD was used for all the cool sound effects like the reverse delay between tracks and what not.
    Logan Mader said he thinks it was a 5150 III, BUT he was not the guitar engineer - Joe was. In his home studio. In France.
    ONLY HE KNOWS THE TRUTH.

    I love this one and from Mars to Sirius. So brutal. Tone wise and riff wise. I always thought they were tuned down a lot, when I was a beginner. It blew my mind at first that they were only tuned 1 step down and occasionally drop C.

    Awesome video once again Mr Englund!! In that era Joe used to play a Jackson SuperLight Soloist with a Seymour Duncan 59 straight into evh 5150 heads (and certainly peaveys 5150 as well), in studio and live. Christian used to play with indeed a Seymour JB4 on a Jackson Rhoads, same, straight into the front of the amp (you can see it in The Flesh Alive documentary). I love that straight to the point approach, don't need too much: a good guitar, a good amp easy to dial, and let's crush some fat tones ;)

    I found the precision drive to sound the best (not closest to Gojira though), a lot cleaner, it's not driving the input as much for sure.

    Hi! I'm a French Metal Player and obviously a first hour fan of Gojira, which is, at my taste, our best national Metal band nowadays. The Way Of All Flesh is my favorite album too, the sound is chugging as hell and the whole concept about the album is awesome. 5150s rule the world! Even though I swapped in Engl years ago, that f***ing sound remembers me so pleasant times playing all these monsterous tracks. Thanks for the vid and your investigation of their Tone! Keep on rocking in the free world

    I'm pretty sure they used a 5150 III. According to URM academy anyway also he has the gain down a little lower than normal and slams the strings really hard according to them

      Juan José Fonseca Godoy from what I found it seems it was a 6505+ and a 5150 III were used. Also I know for a fact it was a 5150 III was used due to the producer in URM being the one that reamped it

      Arthemesia that's odd. It's very unlikely that they used a 5150III since amp was released after the album was being mixed.
      Edit: as you said, they did reamp the album.

    The amp was an EVH mic’d with a 57 and 414. Read in an interview Joe used them since that album. I also think you can see it the bonus scenes from Flesh Alive DVD. Mic position learned from Nail The Mix.

    • @definitelynotgore

    • @themightymcb7310

    • @definitelynotgore

      Jake McB Go for the EVH 5150iii LBX instead.

    • @themightymcb7310
      @themightymcb7310 6 років тому +2

      Kvlt Goat Why? The EVH has less tone control options, a lower wattage, fewer attenuation options, and is more expensive than the Peavey by $200. Unless it sounds $200 better, I don't think that the EVH will be the amp for me

    • @definitelynotgore
      @definitelynotgore 6 років тому +1

      Jake McB Except it does sound $200 better lol, I don’t know what they were doing when they made the 6505MH but it doesn’t sound nearly as good as it’s older brothers.
      If you’re playing metal, the EVH will be ready to slay right out of the box WITHOUT pedals (the 6505MH needs to be heavily shaped with pedals to not sound like a muddy mess).

    Sweet video! Joe tracked the guitar tones with an SM57 and a 421 for each side. Logan Mader just panned the guitars and balanced the mics and that was basically it in the actual mix. If you get the NTM month with Gojira you can get the actual stems. The guitar stems sound insanely good.
    thanks for the awesome vid, Ola!

      It’s a Mesa Boogie DC-5 and maybe some boost for 1999-2000; it’s not known what he used for Iowa, maybe a Mesa Boogie of some sort, maybe Mick’s amp since he used some of Mick’s guitars to track the album as well; Rivera Knucklehead Reverb with 6L6 tubes for Vol.3; Orange Rockerverb MK1 for All Hope Is Gone and The Gray Chapter, though it’s reputed he blended a Diezel Herbert with the Rockerverb. EMG 81 in all guitars for every album, a mix of Fender and Gibsons.
