I think because there is such a large percentage of people who haven't played ice hockey, it's so hard to appreciate how difficult it is to do what he does! I've been skating my whole life, not at high levels, and can't believe how easy he makes this look. That speed on ice... His balance doesn't make sense!

I was very lucky and got to see McDavid’s first NHL hat trick in person in Dallas. He is unreal. Absolutely unreal. A human cheat code. You have to see him play in person. The TV doesn’t do his dominance justice. You gotta see him with your own eyes. He just owns the ice when he steps on it.
The thing with Mcdavid is that. He’s a playmaker You cannot give him space cuz he can score goals too & you can’t leave him alone. (Playmakers play well without the puck too)
So many of these highlights start with the defense not giving him more space. It is what makes him so great cause you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
They say when a guy can skate and stick handle at such a high speed, the game is going in slow motion for him. You'll have to come back every year to see an updated list of ridiculous goals he will score
Just like a Running back in the NFL, when Connor has the puck (ball) they can hit him, but in reality they try, but just cannot. If he played in NY, Boston, LA you would all know him.

But McDavid is trending to be one of the very best to ever play and the best of the 21st century. From a technical standpoint he is likely the most skilled player to ever touch the ice- his speed, stick handling, and IQ for the game combine to form player never seen before. But the reason he won't pass Gretzky is he isn't nearly as dominant in comparison to his peers, even if he is objectively the faster/stronger/more accurate shooting player. He hasn't enjoyed much playoff success, but hockey is a much more team centric sport in comparison to something like Basketball.
