I played this sport at the pro level. Being a shorter player (Listed at 5'8" but that was with my skates on) I relyed on my speed. Through my career I sufford two knee injuries, a seporated right shoulder, a broken nose more then once, broken hand from fighting, and lots of cuts. I love this game!!!! The average NHL hit is 17% harder the the hardest NFL hits. I played center so you have to be good at both offense and defence to be affective at that possition. Most centers are bigger then I was. Well most players were. But I was solid. Being shorter the hip check was my go to. That's when you flip the guy over you in some cases. I love watching people react to this sport for the first time.

I didn't play professionally, but played a lot when I was younger. The most brutal way that I found to play is at a local outside rink in a pickup game with no referees. People trying to take your head off. Lots of hard hits and fights. Injuries, bruises, and scars are expected. Never seemed to stop anyone though. lol

Average hits in a hockey game: 45-60 total between both teams
Average hits in a PLAYOFF hockey game: 100+ between both teams.

@@TheJerseyNinja it depends on what definition of hit you go by and who’s tracking them, it depends on what teams are playing and how they play, and it depends on how much those two teams hate each other. Seeing 75 hits a game is rare in the regular season, but is not entirely uncommon to see teams put up 50 or more hits each in a close playoff series, especially if OT gets involved.

    • @TheJerseyNinja
      @TheJerseyNinja 2 роки тому

@@carlsoto1747 it doesn’t though. It’s an NHL tracked stat. So that’s what you go by. And an average doesn’t spend on who’s playing who or if they hate each other or not. It’s an average. Of course it’s gonna be above or below it all the time. But in terms of averages, that’s what it is. But yes, you can certainly see 100+ hits in a playoff game, it’s just not the average

In general, you can't hit someone in the head (shoulder hits are fair game, though), you can't hit someone who doesn't have the puck, and you can't hit the goalie. I think you'd like to see "playing through the pain" -- hockey players are absolutely insane about staying on the ice after injuries.

He taught me basketball. Hadn't seen him for almost 10 years and I ran into him. He loves it! He stuck with it because he loved the loyalty of the guys on a team and respected the skill and the skating. When things go south between some players, it's a war and he still loves it! hey man love this video, I played hockey in the Beijing international invitational tournament for a Canadian team in 2016. I just wanted to share some insight on the game. The reason players body-check the other team is took take the player out of the play*taking them to the ice*/ if you get hit your immediate response is to get back into your position in the play unfolding. I should also mention if you get "hurt" and are lying on the ice, the refs will blow a whistle as soon as your teammate touches the puck, stopping the play and a possible goal for your team. I'm definitely going to be subscribing :)

There are a bunch of different penalties you can get,
    Elbowing: Hit with elbow.
Charging: Taking momentum and ramming someone in the boards.
Back checking: Tackle someone with your stick first in the back.
Tripping: It is what it sounds like.
Hooking: Your stick gets stuck in the other players leg, arm, skates etc etc.
Clipping: Delivering a check belowbthe knees.
Delay of game: Holding the puck, shooting the puck out of bounds etc etc, anything that stalls the game basically.
Fighting: Starting a fight in NHL is allowed until anyone falls down to the ice or if someone else is interfering with the fight.
Interferance: Impeding an opponent who does not have the puck.
Roughing: Pushing or shoving after the whistle has been blown or when it takes place away from the play
That’s just a few of the penalties you can get. Just pointing some out beacuse it seems that you were confused about the penalty syste in NHL :)

Assists are a little harder to calculate because there could be zero to two assists per goal so I'm guessing that it might be between 4 and 5. Average hits per game this year was right around 26 per game. Not all hits are this hard though.

Some people don't understand the amount of speed that can be generated into a clean hit and if you play with your head down or are afraid of getting hit, that's when Injuries happen. Otherwise, it ain't too bad. The worst are boarding hits into boards/glass that doesn't give. Man how I hated that when I played in my younger days.

As a hockey player that has played since I was 5 and is now 20 years old. I can answer the question as to why we get back up so quickly. We are trained to not stay on the ice as that is seen as weak and no kid that plays hockey wants to be the reason that the whistle is blown when it didn’t need to be. Insert soccer player 😂. Coaches tell us you hit the ice and you get right back up. I can’t even tell you how many times I got my clock cleaned and I just got right back up and kept playing. Now of course, if you are actually hurt you won’t get up because you can’t, and this does happen but it just means that the hit was extra hard or maybe even illegal depending on how the player was hit. I also think that adrenaline definitely has something to do with it but us hockey players are a different breed for sure.

If you haven’t already, you should consider reacting to “The Code”. It explained why there was a lot of fighting in the NHL and hockey in general. If you ever get a chance to watch a game, consider watching the Edmonton Oilers. They almost one the Stanley Cup this years, but they lost in the last game of the series. To many, the greatest NHL player ever (Wayne Gretzky) started his career with the Edmonton Oilers. During his career with Edmonton Oilers, they won four Stanley Cups, they one their last cup a year after Wayne Gretzky Was traded to LA. He has broken so many records that when they did a side by side comparison with other great team athletes he beat out everyone including Michael Jordan. His monicker is “The Great One” and yet one of the most humble people you’ll ever meet.

The lack of friction with the surface being ice helps a lot on any hits that they are not driven into the boards. When your body hits a surface with no friction, the impact of the fall is greatly reduced. Its like rolling your head with a punch. The actual body to body impact is legit though.

This dude was so surprised they got back up 😂. Some people are too used to watching basketball and soccer. When I would get hit I would get right back up to look for the guy that hit me and if he got the puck it was open season.

Hockey player here. Often times hitting the ice after the hit is the worst part. You have to make sure your head doesn’t whip back and collide with the ice. Also the speed you are travelling can make a seemingly simple body check feel like you skated into a brick wall. Hockey can reach up to 25-30 km/h on the ice if I am not mistaken…so it is like a small car crash haha.

i'm 40 now, but we learned to hit at 12. this is all we wanted to do was freight train people. Then, when you get into junior leagues(16-21), with, just about, men doing this, you realize the impact. especially when guys are weighing 200lbs+, skating at 30 km\h. Then you get into men's hockey. watch all time biggest hits. when guys wore barely any pads or in some cases, no helmets

I just chuckle when people talk how tough football players are, and they are, but…Hockey regular season is over 80 games. Then they play 7 game series in the playoffs, and have to win 4 rounds to win the cup. You should check out some playoff hockey next year. It’s the best post season in sports as far as I’m concerned. I love watching people get introduced to hockey.
