The tip that really stood out to me was using a CRM. I have done freelance projects on the side of other jobs for over 10 years but I haven't ever really thought to compile them into one place and try to keep track of our relationships. I'm also someone who dislikes mailing lists or cold calls etc, so I'm always reluctant to email past clients in case they think I'm hassling them. But ultimately, 1 in 30 emails is a pretty staggering statistic. Thanks for these tips - so helpful!
There are some really great CRM's out there and whilst no one likes feeling harassed the odd check in email is a great way to keep you fresh in their minds for any upcoming projects.
Much thanks. The tip to not confuse the clients is very useful. I've got several Venn diagrams of overlapping creative skills and presenting that to a potential client or employer seems like forcing a big restaurant menu in their face. That can seem severely inundating when the client has a more specific and clear scope of the skillset they're wanting to invest in. Be safe, creative, and well.
@@MotionHatch Niche down? Most likely a simple trim down to be honest. I'll simply focus the skillset to the best of the best of what I have to offer. Trying to work into a generalist career that can handle all of the skills at once.

I always compare myself with the best artists I see on social media and then think like I'm suck at this job. But I always forget that they were also amateurs at a point. Even though I still think that I'm not capable enough to get a job (haha), maybe I should stop pushing myself this hard and just go and apply for entry level jobs. @@MotionHatch AMAZING! I'm totally here for it 😃I guess my biggest question is what makes a good case study? What info absolutely needs to be in there and what shouldn't, kind of like a blueprint. I've seen case studies that look great but just had too much text on screen which I just couldn't get through or the opposite is true, all flash and no substance. Also, how do you make a case study from personal projects where you we 'everyone' and did everything, making that compelling and interesting.
Good tips. What system do you use to send emails to customers who have no previous relationship with you? Couldn't this be interpreted as spam and damage your image?

I just loved this video. It was really interesting and objective. For me, the most valuable part was tip number 3.
And it will be great to see a "how to create a case study video" here on the channel. I'm really looking forward to see it

Really great vid! I really liked the tip on using a CRM or client tracker
Thanks Margaret for your comment. What other video topics would you like to see?
@@MotionHatch Maybe covering holds: when its good to give out a 1st hold or if shouldn't do holds at all?

Thank you soooo much
Which tip did you find most useful?
@@MotionHatch all of them super useful. But I think #5 "Use case studies to show your value " is a great tip. When client can see a profit of work that can be achieved (some real numbers) it can make your work more value. Would love to watch video on that subject from you. Thanks
@@oleksandrpolishchuk6128 It's definitely looking like it would be a popular one!

Great video, i don't have showreel sadly as i was working on fiverr mainly and was doing logo animations. what do you think i should show to my possible clients to catch their attention and maybe even offer retainer contract ?
Thanks so much! I'd say spend time creating a showreel but using personal projects (meaning not client work) and short animations. This also means you can post these short personal projects on your social media channels! Hope this helps!
Absolute gold as usual 🏅one of the things that have made all the difference for me is doing personal projects🔥 Most of my portfolio is made up of personal projects and because of that I'm slowly starting to get hired for the type of work I enjoy, we all want to get hired to do what we love and I can't think of a better way than showcasing that upfront!
Also PLESAE make a video about case studies ❤
Thanks for all the great insight ✨
Thanks so much, Lance! I think we better get started on a case studies video!😂

I'll definitely would love a "how to build a case study" video
Great, it's on the list :-) Is there anything else you would like to see?

5:00 YES PLEASE :DD !!! ( sorry i love this video ! It will help me for building my beginning experience ! at the time i post this comment im a motion designer student ! )
What's your end goal? Freelance or employed?
@@MotionHatch to be honest with you, i think the very end goal would be freelancing, but i think i need to be employed first in studios in order to gain more experience and saving monney too for hard times ! ( for the type of work, i would do things like Cabeza patata ! ( i took their course but for now i still need training before proposing my services ! )
I would like to learn more about case studies and how to create them.
We have a YT live about this, this week so stay tuned :-) Is there anything else you'd like to see from us?
@@MotionHatch Thank you for the response. Excited for the next one. When I think of something good I will reach out for sure.
Case Study tuts!!!

But ideally to have hot leads from client themself :)
A lot of great stuff here! I liked #5 the best. I really need to do some case studies and behind the scenes. Cyclops would really help with that. ;)

DO NOT CONFUSE YOUR CLIENT! In creative work I've found that limiting yourself / niching down, ironically gives one more freedom.
It does, too many options lead to confusion and in some cases clients not going with any option at all!
