This actually happened to Ronnie Van Zant when he was 18, and he came up with the lyrics to this song on his way home that night. Ronnie never actually wrote down any lyrics, it was all in his head.
This was one of the best reactions to this song I've seen yet. I love that you guys paid attention to the lyrics and really got it. Yep, he got himself in a bad situation! 😏
Yep, I gotta agree. They had it figured out fast. In like two minutes. 😄 My first time checking these folks out and I had to hit subscribe because of that.
I think they might’ve missed my favorite line from the song: “you could hear me screaming a mile away as headed out towards the door”. Absolutely hilarious!
Great reaction, you are right in saying it was not fun for Ronnie but he found it a way to make it fun for everyone else. That was the beauty of the band, great story tellers.
Thank you for actually listening and enjoying the lyrics. Most reactors either don't really listen or they don't understand what's going on. Watching your reaction was refreshing.
“Gimme three steps” is a great joke that plays on some universal themes. So glad that you guys got the point. Artists are the real angels in the evolution of consciousness.
Skynyrd were legends. Ronnie Van Zant was a brilliant lyricist and singer. Tragic end to his life, as well as Steve Gaines, guitarist and his sister Cassie Gaines.
In the Southern Rock genre of music, it's widely considered that Lynyrd Skynyrd is at the top. It just doesn't get better than this band. 100% of their songs are great.
Cuttin the rug-means he was dancing! Generation thing i guess? Im old-67 in 5 days. So. There s that.. fun to watch you hear a band i grew up on. Classic -southern rock- saw them bout 2 yrs ago.. whats lft of them. Still sounded great over 45-50 yrs ltr..
I grew up on the west side of Jacksonville and lived only about 12 miles from the VanZant family. My oldest sister, who will be 79 in December bought a VW Bug from the VanZant family. Needless to say I was and still am a huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
A southern boy here. [ no real reason to state that, except that I'm braggin'. 😊 ] Sort of needless to say that I am a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. But I do need to say that I am a big fan of y'all's channel. You two sweet people are a delight to watch. You both carry yourselves in a humble way that makes listening to you very easy. Your reaction to this song is one of the best that I have come across on RVCs. You paid attention to the lyrics and reacted accordingly. It was a blast to watch. Keep up the good work, and keep on r'actin .
BTW, this actually happened to the lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt. He was in a dive bar in rural Florida and he was two young to be there at 17 yo. He was talking to a girl he just met when her crazy boyfriend saw him talking to his girl and pulled a gun on him.
Just found you all. You are a cute couple! You've just opened the lid to one of the greatest rock bands ever. Lynyrd Skynyrd has dozens of great songs, including several which are Top 100. Incredibly talented band - Pronounced is one of the truly definitive albums ever recorded, and they are an absolute powerhouse live. Fantastic musicians on every instrument, especially the 4 different lead guitarists they were blessed with. Keep digging into them!
Gotta do the live version. When Ronnie tells the 3 guitarists to - Bring all my mules out here one more time, it’s guitar bedlam. Let me tell you, those guys played well and well together
Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell. Studio version. This song sounds different than the ones you've heard. It's about alcohol, drugs, and the rock and roll lifestyle.
Tuesday's Gone,That Smell,I Know A Little,Working For MCA,Swamp Music,Ballad of Curtis Loew are some Lynyrd Skynyrd songs you will love! They have a very deep catalog of great songs!
Ah yes, The Ballad of Curtis Loew. The filler song that every true Skynyrd fan holds up as a defense against a charge *nobody* has ever made about the band itself.
And in the actual incident he told the guy he was going to take 3 steps towards the door and he'd be gone so there was no need to do anything more than was already done. His bandmates forces him to write the song right after the incident because he was clearly very shook.
Hey couple crib love your reactions. I bought this album in 1971 Allman Brothers live at the Fillmore East, I bought it on 8 track tape for car and double Live record album for home and cassette, CD and I’ve never stopped listening to it all these years. I still listen to it especially at the gym or when truck driving, it’s one of the greatest albums of all time, the whole album…I’ve seen them in concert many times…EARGASMIC ! 🎵😜😘☮️ ua-cam.com/play/OLAK5uy_mop9q674xCmD3uoikXHXd0Wit9S2spwoQ.html&si=SoTnwGfrs5kRvTEm
Southern Rock! Can't do better than that! You need to also check out the Allman Brothers: especially "One Way Out" (the live video recorded at the Fillmore East, 1971),
🎶🔥 ... So , my Mom & Stepfather played this song at every show they did back in the 80s. The crowd would always get to the dance floor and shake it to this one. My Mom played the bass guitar. This song is a banger ! p. s. Your kids are going to have great hair !!!!!! 💃🕺
Ok, so I usually stand back but after watching this I had to step out. This was such a pure reaction. I'm a 62 yr old country/southern musician. I grew up on a ranch and had nothing else to do but dream of a way out. Ended up touring for 10 years then life happened and I didn't play until 8 years ago. Anyway, loved the energy on this and the others in this folder. Look firward to more, PAPA!
You two remind me of myself when I first heard this song. I was 16 and with some friends and listening to music and smoking some ganja when this song was played and we all fell about the place laughing. It’s really a Universal Experience song for most guys who accidentally done something dumb to make a guy twice their size angry. Often over a woman. 😂😂😂
Enjoyed that reaction. Well done. Y'all had that song figured out in about two minutes. That whole album is amazing. The first song on it called, I Ain't the One, has some humor in it similar to this one. Just subscribed and looking forward to more reactions.
A place called Jug. In the south the term jug means your pulling on a jug. Drinking moonshine or just drinking. I’m in my 50s and I can’t tell you how many times I heard he’s been pulling on the jug god bless him.
No gun involved but I had a similar situation many years ago. I was a young Marine at a bar in Nevada and we were dancing with some girls when this Sergeant I barely knew walked in accused us of sleeping with his wife and tried to fight us. She was one of the ladies we were dancing with. We got away somehow and avoided her from then on.
Staring down the barrel of a .44 magnum over a dance and a jealous boyfriend ,not worth dying for ..I heard it was true story ../. "Mississippi Kid" "Poison Whiskey" are a couple of good ones from the first album also..
Just found your channel today through this video - already subscribed, and spent way too much time watching some of your content. You two are a lot of fun. For more Skynyrd, as many have suggested, The Ballad of Curtis Lowe, and Tuesday's Gone. But for things completely different - here are a couple of deep rabbit holes to explore: Boston. Every song on the first album got major radio airplay. Not a bad song on it. And it was mostly done by one guy, in a home-made recording studio in the basement of the building where he was renting an apartment. He built some of his own equipment - he's an MIT graduate, and his day job was a design engineer at Polaroid. Here's the first song. ua-cam.com/video/ufQUxoidxkM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Boston-Topic Or try Rush. You will not believe how much sound 3 guys can make.

True!
We could drink in a bar in Duval County at 18 back then!
Yes true!

Yep, that lasted till November 1983.
@@freebirdtony Sure was.
'Cuttin' a rug' was a slang term for dancing. You two are adorable.

Yes, I agree!
It seems very genuine. There are so many out there that are contrived.
@@johnsimmons1379 Yep and it can BE difficult to tell the difference. I try to take them at face value though, unless it's obvious.
This is one of my favorite Skynyrds songs
Great reaction, you are right in saying it was not fun for Ronnie but he found it a way to make it fun for everyone else. That was the beauty of the band, great story tellers.

I love your laugh and clap of your hands on "gimme three steps towards the door"... such a timeless classic!
Skynyrd was great at telling a story, whether happy or sad, with both the lyrics AND the music. Thanks for your reaction.
True story from the Jacksonville west side. RIP Skynyrd. The music will live forever.
Skynyrd were legends. Ronnie Van Zant was a brilliant lyricist and singer. Tragic end to his life, as well as Steve Gaines, guitarist and his sister Cassie Gaines.

Going down the Skynyrd rabbit hole is a amazing. Enjoy the ride y'all. What they did in a few short years remains timeless. Simple Man is a must!
Yes the “Jug “ was a real place where Skynyrd played !!

No country in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, hell yes. Lynyrd Skynyrd was rock.
You two are a blast 😂! Loved this reaction and how you pay close attention! 👍
I can see guy running out front door, screaming in fear, hands in air! Hilarious dong!!!

Fun watching the two of you react to American music. For a good laugh, watch Toby Keith "as good as I once was" You'll thank me.
How about "Red Solo Cup"?
"Billy's got his beer goggles on" by Neal McCoy is another good one.
Your authentic from the heart reaction to this is so funny I'm laughing with you.
This song describes a not uncommon occurrence in a 70s Honky Tonk. Saw them in 74, and they were great.
Welcome to America, friends. We need more folks like you two.
Yep, this is a true story. I’ve been to The Jug, which was called Westside Tavern at that time. Yes, “cuttin’ the rug” means dancing.
"He was sh!ting his pants!", I busted out loud🤣🤣🤣🤣😎
