I love how thinking & playing like a hunter and listening for audio cues from the machines give you the best results in this game, which a great example of gameplay that fits the character. So many games use parry or shields or focus on direct combat, so if you play HFW that way, you’re off-time, get knocked down a lot, & get very frustrated, especially since this game doesn’t have parry. A lot of people come from playing Dark Souls and Elden ring too, which helps when dodging, but you’re missing out on the hunter aspect that this game thrives on
Yesss.. agreed about the biggest difference from Zero Dawn to Forbidden West is getting used to using all the new weapons. I was so used to using hunter bow only really.
One ive done with foes weak to freeze is a stunlock combo of boltblaster, warrior bow & grapple. If you have good timing and accuracy, you can keep some enemies in a near perpetual stun state. Was how i farmed tremortusk, well... tusks. Combat flow can get really interesting with the grapple strike l
that's a pretty solid combo! I've never really spent much time with warrior bows, but I know they're awesome at dealing elemental damage. I'll need to give this one a try!
@@chazmatazzgames they do a lot of build up real fast so thats where they really shine. That and against those like Slitherfang with the 5 arrow ability
Actually on my first playthrough today on ultra hard I beat the final boss of the game. Used nothing but acid shredder, cos it was weak to acid and shredders are extremely good weapons against less agressive machines like thunderjaws, shell snappers, and to an extent even against stalkers. Think I spent maybe 40 to 50 disks from an unupgraded legendary shredder, so the ammo efficiency is excellent. And the best part, you don't have to stand there and shoot, just use the slide quickdraw mechanic and you never stop moving. Also rolling through plasma explosion saved me 3 times in that fight
2,000 Hours?! That's quite an accomplishment! I recently clicked over 1,000 hours and thought that was good 😆For the most part, I really like everything they did with the Burning Shores. Everything they added really seemed to fit within the story and the overall mechanics they already had. Melee is still one of the weaker parts of the combat (for me at least), but hopefully that's something we'll see expanded even more in Horizon 3
I’ve got more hours into this game than you have as of this posting (600+), and YET I’m here because I finally got my filthy paws on a ps5 to play burning shores and starting from scratch. Throughout those 600+ hours I’ve barely touched smoke bombs and bolt blasters, still play heavy with the hunter bow because of upgrading gear and whatnot, and the plasma thing is news. Thank you for your knowledge and investment into this mind blowing game
Yeah smoke bombs are really op like they can hela you in any situation and helps you deal a LOT of damage. I hope they nerf it a little bit in horizon 3 but still has smoke bombs in the game!
I know what you mean about nerfing them cause they're almost *too* powerful, but I also kind of hope they don't :) I think putting Aloy instantly in stealth is probably a bit too much, but that's also just because stealth is so powerful. I feel like if anything, they'll probably end up nerfing that
IMO slide has more I-Frames and a more forgiving window to avoid plasma damage. I tend to do a slide dodge and hit dodge during my slide as I think I might take the hit. Seems to work 9 times out of 10 even in the heat of battle.
I’ll need to try this out with the slide dodge. I typically just like to get a bit of a running start, but you’re right about the I-frames on the slide, so definitely makes sense that it would work and would probably be easier for most people to pull off
What are people’s thoughts on the POWER melee mess in Thornmarsh (is there a trick I’m missing) ? I’m also curious about people’s personal experiences on using the weapon that acts like a boomerang (can’t remember the name rn).
I forgot the name too but I love that thing. The first time I tried I only dealt a little damage & put it aside, but after watching a dev use it, I came to love it, everything from the sound effects to the vibrations it gives the controller, & especially if you prep the machine with elemental first & hit it’s weak spots perfectly, you become like a ninja, gracefully throwing it, dodging, & catching it again like a dance around the machine
I don’t have a video specifically about that, but that’s a great idea! I’ll do a little research and look into the possibility. I’m not entirely sure, but I think the arrow you’re referring to is probably a targeting hunter arrow. They’re used to tag a specific target for a mount to focus in on (aka mostly useless)
Do you guys play on Ultra Hard level? I've reached Forbidden West playing ultra but resigned before investing more time. Couldn't really enjoy the game :P Maybe the next playthough. I wonder what your thoughts are though. Now, playing on Hard level it's way too easy for me :P Bummer we can't change the difficulty during the game. Or can we?
1:44 What? The hunter bow was never a good damage dealer in the first game either. It was always the weapon you'll use for applying elemental effects, like in the second game. The sharpshoot bow was ALWAYS the strictly superior DPS bow.

Swimming in the water also eliminates the plasma state
that plasma dodge + slaughterspine kill is *chef's kiss*
🤣
Like 1/3rd into the game and never used a smoke homb, wow thanks!

that grapple strike looks awesome i can't wait to play the ps5 version. the knockdown arrow weapon technique is a must have too
Thanks. I was not feeling this game combat and thought i was missing something, this video helped me out.
Thanks for this! Definitely heeding your advice the next time I play
Best combat tips video for forbidden west! Awesome
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. At least someone is still making horizon videos.
Haha, thanks! That’s all I seem to make. I just can’t get enough if this game ☺️

Such a great video - wonderful tips, but also great exexution of the video itself - nice shots, clear audio and set voice! Pleasure to watch
More of HFW combat tips please!

Do u have a video about types of arrows ? Sometimes I see the same arrows but they have an additional symbol like a clock

All good stuffs from dlc great rip PS4 user
I fought a thunderjaw and a slaughter spine and when I threw the smoke bomb I called my sunwing so fast
😅
Warrior bows instead of bolts blasters with crit coils fast rate of fire and you are not fixed and dodge mechanic is better

you can change difficulty in options menu at anytime

No way 😂 I never know dodge can avoid plasma damage!
4:17 is the grappler strike skill burning shores exclusive? i have a ps4 so i can’t get the dlc, and i’ve never seen that in the game
This is late but to answer your question, yes grapple strike is dlc exclusive
