Just wanted to let you know how great this channel is. Its factual and devoid of the gaming BS, opinions and whining you get on the other more established channel. When it comes to HFW you are my go to channel. I watch all of your skills, gear and weapons video as they come out. I hold off on the watching the walkthrus until I have actually played that segment.

honestly I'm not the biggest fans of figuring out skill combos in video games because i can't never pay attention long enough to figure out how they can all slot together, so this is definitely very helpful lol. & congrats on 1k!!

All the content creators with big subscriber numbers are out there putting out the EXACT same garbage as each other, even their thumbnail images and fonts are often impossible to differentiate. All the while you’re over here actually being creative and (refreshingly) unique with your top tier USEFUL information. Keep up the good work!

Awesome video! Thank you for breaking down all those weapon techniques & sharing strategies on how to use them optimally. My favorites are Braced Shot, Sustained Burst, Quick Rope & Triple Notch. But after watching this video, I'm inspired to do more experimenting. I definitely have to try using Knockdown Shot more, I admit I've underutilized it in favor of Triple Notch lol. And Critical Boost with Spread Blast sounds fun! The Blast Forge already has a Critical Hit +15% perk, so with some good coils the damage could be super OP. As always, great content & congratulations on 1k! Thanks for the shout-out too btw. 😁
Thanks @Sonny ! Yeah give Knockdown Shot a…shot! 🙃 I definitely under-utilize it too in favor of Triple Notch. Like I mentioned in the video, I’m still trying to figure out a good way to work it into my loadout. It does use a lot of stamina though, so I think the only viable tactics are going to require stamina potions to recharge your stamina once the machine is knocked down. That way you’ll be able to follow up with a Braced Shot, Triple Notch, etc.

Tried HZD and I just got bored so i never finished it. Found your chanel on HFW and now i cant stop playing it. Great content and keep up the amazing work you put in your videos. Thank you
The high volley on elemental bows have pretty good elemental damage. But it also creates an area of effect around the machine, especially the larger ones so it builds up a little faster. It also cancels the animation on elite elemental arrows so you can just keep shooting. Just bring stamina potions it can eat through it quickly.
Appreciate the shout-out. You earned the spike in subs. Another important vid. It was you who woke me up to the power of the braced shot. I abuse it whenever possible now. It can be daunting to even experiment with the special techniques after jumping in from HZD where things are relatively simpler. I think Guerilla complicated gameplay on a level that's usually reserved for the third installment (you should be their official ambassador for the sequel :) ). Now I feel more encouraged to play with the Knockdown shot and the old favorite Sticky Bombs on my next playthrough.

This is a great channel. I'm glad you started. HZD and HFW are massive games so I am hopeful you don't head off to do other games just yet. I haven't even finished this one yet. I get nerfed a lot. Note: Triple notch doesn't give you triple damage. JorRaptor demoed that you get a bit less than if you were to have fired all three separately.

Your guides are amazing! Your hard work and research definitely shows in the quality of your guides. I'm using all your guides, as well as your Let's Play as I'm working my way through Horizon Forbidden West and not getting my butt kicked in every encounter makes my game play much more enjoyable.
You might want to go back thru your videos at some point and post updates to some of the info you’ve posted man. Since a lot of balance changes and patches much of this information has now become misinformation. For example, swapping outfits to make more smoke bombs via trap limit +2, then swapping back and maintaining the boosted amount no longer works. Or in this video, braced shot was nerfed into oblivion a few months after launch. Focused shot seems much better now for pure dps. There’s a lot of stuff like this on your channel. Most creators will just pin a comment or put in the description something like ‘UPDATE: as of patch x.xx such and such no longer works,’ which is something you may want to consider as a lot of people will likely find their way to your channel for the dlc
With the PC release, I've been testing both and Braced Shot might have been nerfed but it's still a great skill, especially earlier in the game. Yeah late game focused shot catches up being able to down a pack of 3 grazer in one shot is useful and even mid-game in very hard NG it's still better than Focused shot until you start using 3 coils. Once you get to that level (purple sharpshot bow upgraded enough to have at least 3 epic coils) then yeah focused shot becomes better and braced shot is reserved to specific situations where you want the explosion damage (but by that point you have half the skills in the game so it's not much of a choice anyway) but for the first half of the game, Braced Shot is insane, especially with how easily you can combine it with valors.
Triple notch actually doesn't triple damage. Triple notch damage scales down arrow damage by 30%, but still worth it for elemental build up. Anyway great content. Really liked how you thanked your viewers. Keep up the good work!

I played Zero Dawn years ago and just now started Forbidden West as it's on Plus. I forgot a lot about the gameplay and combat style so this video is awesome as both a refresher and helpful insight into new abilities. Thanks!
Love Powershots + Double Notch on the Forgefall sharpshot bow for farming breakable components like frostclaw sac webbing that braced shot can accidentally destroy. It's a strong opener to combo with coils like high ground damage and stealth damage, the opening shot nearly kills a frostclaw when fired unseen from above. The second arrow in double notch seems to land below the first, so I aim high on the machine. Sustained burst is nice for farming Stormbirds. Advanced plasma arrows from Forgefall ground the bird and apply the plasma elemental state, then while it's down you can dump a full clip of bolts into it to max out the plasma damage on the delayed explosion. Rinse and repeat, it stays grounded for a relatively easy kill. A video on best ways to remove components for upgrades, knock out stealth generators, or get kills without destroying ones like sac webbing would be cool. Love the content!
@Dan Beavers Thanks! And good tips! Thanks for sharing them. I also use a boltblaster on Stormbirds, and lots of other machines too! Sharpshot Double Notch isn't something I use much, but that's a good point that it would work well for machines with sac webbing that you need to harvest. Thanks for your video suggestion too! I think that's a good idea. I'll see if I can work it into my lineup.
Recently dusted off my PS4 Pro to get into Horizon. Finished ZD and Forbidden West is kind of overwhelming because of all the extra skills, weapons, and combat options! Thanks for your videos to help me get a handle on all of it!

I just subscribed to your channel because you have got some of the best explanations to the things you talk about better than I’ve seen anybody I know more about the techniques now and the valor surges that I’ve never used. @ Arktix I was on the salvage mission trying to defeat the shellsnapper and he got me every time. I used the cleaving sharpshot bow and braced shot. But before that I set 3 advanced acid traps on his walking path. Just one use of braced shot, he was completely destroyed. Thanks for the tips! I was getting really frustrated. I subscribed.
I've played through the game twice already and never knew I had to basically activate it the weapontechniques. I just thought once you had the triangle on the technique it used it and kept thinking my game kept glitching and thats why splitting spike wasn't working. I really feel stupid. Thank you for all the informative video
I use to use the Knockdown on the Hunter Bow, mostly when I start a new game, but I abandon that since a lot of my first shots are me hidden and I useably hit the components. I can usually get two shots off before the machines know where I'm at. The Burrows are funny. I usually hit their components on their back, which makes them stand up in confusion, and then hit their component on their chest. I like to electrocute machines to get them to stay still, especially the Tideripper and its tail. I don't how many times I got mad when I tried circling it and all it had to do was hop to keep me in its view. I used smoke bombs, which worked, but sometimes it would spot me before I could get a shot. I love the triple notch and use it a lot like you do. Whenever I fight a machine that is strong against electricity, I load one bow with Purgewater and the second with electric arrows. I love that. The Sharpshot bow, I used to use the Focus for Tearblast for the Dreadwing's teeth, but I stopped doing that. I do have one Sharpshot bow using Brace shot, which I mostly use when starting a new game, and Double notch on my bow that I have built for crit hits. The Blastbolt I use Sustained blast, and yeah, still don't think crits work. I would love if it did. The damage someone could do. I know this is a year old. I'm away from home for vacation and don't have my systems with me, so I've been surfing UA-cam. Happy New Year.

Thanks for these videos. I hate to admit it, but I played about halfway through forbidden west just with a hunter bow for everything then, I saw how to use Valor surges correctly and this video also helped making the game a ton more fun than just fire kill repeat. I know you don't like trip casters but I'd be interested to see how effectively use the shield tripcaster. Seems kinda worthless but that's how I felt with other technics and was completely wrong there too.

Woohoo congrats to 1K!!! This was really good at explaining how things work, since we I mentioned before the game doesn’t teach you too much XD Overall I love how WTs were introduced. A lot of the skills in ZD were extremely powerful, and there was really no reason not to use them if you had a chance. Like most of the time I had three arrows loaded in ZD, but now with the stamina bar, you need to play more carefully. Also with the note of having specific weapons for specific skills, I’ve thought about something like that before. I don’t quite remember if weapon skills stick around if you unequip the weapon, but I thought of having multiple weapons specifically for one thing to switch to during the fight. Also ditto for braced shot. It’s just such an incredible opener. The ranged master thing you said is a good opener, but another I think I’ve dead before is stealth stalker, as it ups the damage to around 600 base. Oh and your point about knockdown shot, there’s a certain strategy I’ve liked. It’s to knock down a machine and then go in with the spread shot so I can get up close while they’re immobilized, making tons of the arrows connect on a weak spot
Thanks @Plusle ! I also like how the WTs are balanced with needing stamina. It was definitely a little too easy to abuse skills like triple notch in HZD lol. I’m not sure if weapons hang on to the WT they were set to. That’s a good question, I’ll have to check. Do you still like using Stealth Stalker after they nerfed it a couple weeks ago? I know a lot of people were using Stealth Stalker that way, but then they nerfed it so Ranged Master is now stronger. Just wanted to make sure you knew in case you didn’t realize they nerfed it. And that’s a good stretch for using Knockdown Shot! I’ll have to give it a try!
I've got well over a thousand play hours in Forbidden West throughout multiple playthroughs. I can't believe I've never used valor surge and weapon techniques before! This is so going to help me beat the apex bilegut that has been torturing me in the cauldron on my current from-scratch ultra-hard playthrough. Cheers for these videos.

Not sure how much of my audience would be into Zelda though. Of course, Horizon DLC whenever it comes out too!

One tip that might be worth mentioning in a future vid for those who like using Valor Surges a lot is how to recharge your Valor surge bar quickly between fights. I find it helps a lot to equip an armor that has both Stealth Strike +2 and Steath Strike Gain +2 and then go stealth strike a herd of weak machines in between fights. Just 4 or 5 stealth strike kills is enough to fully charge up the meter with Stealth Strike Gain +2 equipped & will get you back ready to go for another big fight. Stealth Strike +2 on your armor as well as having both Stealth Strike boosts learned in the Infiltrator skill tree is very important as it's the only way to be able to insta kill all small non Apex machines instantly. The Utaru Whisperer armor is perfect for this, specially since it also has Silent Strike Heal +2 which will also overheal you with each kill at Level 4, so you'll also go into each fight w double health! I use it as my default stealth kill armor thru most of the game due to its overheal & Valor surge restoring abilities.

I wish I would have found this channel much sooner. I tried watching some other help videos a while ago and found them pretty lackluster or bloated with info I didn't want/need. These videos are exactly what they advertise to be with zero fluff! Great job, keep it up!

Awesome video! Thank you for breaking down all those weapon techniques & sharing strategies on how to use them optimally. My favorites are Braced Shot, Sustained Burst, Quick Rope & Triple Notch. But after watching this video, I'm inspired to do more experimenting. I definitely have to try using Knockdown Shot more, I admit I've underutilized it in favor of Triple Notch lol. And Critical Boost with Spread Blast sounds fun! The Blast Forge already has a Critical Hit +15% perk, so with some good coils the damage could be super OP.

Thanks @Sonny ! Yeah give Knockdown Shot a…shot! 🙃 I definitely under-utilize it too in favor of Triple Notch. Like I mentioned in the video, I’m still trying to figure out a good way to work it into my loadout. It does use a lot of stamina though, so I think the only viable tactics are going to require stamina potions to recharge your stamina once the machine is knocked down. That way you’ll be able to follow up with a Braced Shot, Triple Notch, etc.

The high volley on elemental bows have pretty good elemental damage. But it also creates an area of effect around the machine, especially the larger ones so it builds up a little faster. It also cancels the animation on elite elemental arrows so you can just keep shooting. Just bring stamina potions it can eat through it quickly.

Another important vid. It was you who woke me up to the power of the braced shot. I abuse it whenever possible now. It can be daunting to even experiment with the special techniques after jumping in from HZD where things are relatively simpler. I think Guerilla complicated gameplay on a level that's usually reserved for the third installment (you should be their official ambassador for the sequel :) ). Now I feel more encouraged to play with the Knockdown shot and the old favorite Sticky Bombs on my next playthrough.

This is a great channel. I'm glad you started. HZD and HFW are massive games so I am hopeful you don't head off to do other games just yet. I haven't even finished this one yet. I get nerfed a lot. Note: Triple notch doesn't give you triple damage. JorRaptor demoed that you get a bit less than if you were to have fired all three separately.

You might want to go back thru your videos at some point and post updates to some of the info you’ve posted man. Since a lot of balance changes and patches much of this information has now become misinformation. For example, swapping outfits to make more smoke bombs via trap limit +2, then swapping back and maintaining the boosted amount no longer works. Or in this video, braced shot was nerfed into oblivion a few months after launch. Focused shot seems much better now for pure dps. There’s a lot of stuff like this on your channel. Most creators will just pin a comment or put in the description something like ‘UPDATE: as of patch x.xx such and such no longer works,’ which is something you may want to consider as a lot of people will likely find their way to your channel for the dlc
Actually, I believe he was purposely using malinformation to poison us with his obvious racism against other weap techniques.

With the PC release, I've been testing both and Braced Shot might have been nerfed but it's still a great skill, especially earlier in the game. Yeah late game focused shot catches up being able to down a pack of 3 grazer in one shot is useful and even mid-game in very hard NG it's still better than Focused shot until you start using 3 coils. Once you get to that level (purple sharpshot bow upgraded enough to have at least 3 epic coils) then yeah focused shot becomes better and braced shot is reserved to specific situations where you want the explosion damage (but by that point you have half the skills in the game so it's not much of a choice anyway) but for the first half of the game, Braced Shot is insane, especially with how easily you can combine it with valors.

Triple notch actually doesn't triple damage. Triple notch damage scales down arrow damage by 30%, but still worth it for elemental build up.

I played Zero Dawn years ago and just now started Forbidden West as it's on Plus. I forgot a lot about the gameplay and combat style so this video is awesome as both a refresher and helpful insight into new abilities. Thanks!
Love Powershots + Double Notch on the Forgefall sharpshot bow for farming breakable components like frostclaw sac webbing that braced shot can accidentally destroy. It's a strong opener to combo with coils like high ground damage and stealth damage, the opening shot nearly kills a frostclaw when fired unseen from above. The second arrow in double notch seems to land below the first, so I aim high on the machine.
Sustained burst is nice for farming Stormbirds. Advanced plasma arrows from Forgefall ground the bird and apply the plasma elemental state, then while it's down you can dump a full clip of bolts into it to max out the plasma damage on the delayed explosion. Rinse and repeat, it stays grounded for a relatively easy kill.
A video on best ways to remove components for upgrades, knock out stealth generators, or get kills without destroying ones like sac webbing would be cool. Love the content!
@Dan Beavers Thanks! And good tips! Thanks for sharing them. I also use a boltblaster on Stormbirds, and lots of other machines too! Sharpshot Double Notch isn't something I use much, but that's a good point that it would work well for machines with sac webbing that you need to harvest.

@ Arktix I was on the salvage mission trying to defeat the shellsnapper and he got me every time. I used the cleaving sharpshot bow and braced shot. But before that I set 3 advanced acid traps on his walking path. Just one use of braced shot, he was completely destroyed. Thanks for the tips! I was getting really frustrated. I subscribed.

I've played through the game twice already and never knew I had to basically activate it the weapontechniques. I just thought once you had the triangle on the technique it used it and kept thinking my game kept glitching and thats why splitting spike wasn't working. I really feel stupid. I use to use the Knockdown on the Hunter Bow, mostly when I start a new game, but I abandon that since a lot of my first shots are me hidden and I useably hit the components. I can usually get two shots off before the machines know where I'm at. The Burrows are funny. I usually hit their components on their back, which makes them stand up in confusion, and then hit their component on their chest.
I like to electrocute machines to get them to stay still, especially the Tideripper and its tail. I don't how many times I got mad when I tried circling it and all it had to do was hop to keep me in its view. I used smoke bombs, which worked, but sometimes it would spot me before I could get a shot.
I love the triple notch and use it a lot like you do. Whenever I fight a machine that is strong against electricity, I load one bow with Purgewater and the second with electric arrows. I love that.
The Sharpshot bow, I used to use the Focus for Tearblast for the Dreadwing's teeth, but I stopped doing that. I do have one Sharpshot bow using Brace shot, which I mostly use when starting a new game, and Double notch on my bow that I have built for crit hits.
The Blastbolt I use Sustained blast, and yeah, still don't think crits work. I would love if it did. The damage someone could do.
I know this is a year old. I'm away from home for vacation and don't have my systems with me, so I've been surfing UA-cam. Happy New Year.

I hate to admit it, but I played about halfway through forbidden west just with a hunter bow for everything then, I saw how to use Valor surges correctly and this video also helped making the game a ton more fun than just fire kill repeat. I know you don't like trip casters but I'd be interested to see how effectively use the shield tripcaster. Seems kinda worthless but that's how I felt with other technics and was completely wrong there too.

This was really good at explaining how things work, since we I mentioned before the game doesn’t teach you too much XD
Overall I love how WTs were introduced. A lot of the skills in ZD were extremely powerful, and there was really no reason not to use them if you had a chance. Like most of the time I had three arrows loaded in ZD, but now with the stamina bar, you need to play more carefully. Also with the note of having specific weapons for specific skills, I’ve thought about something like that before. I don’t quite remember if weapon skills stick around if you unequip the weapon, but I thought of having multiple weapons specifically for one thing to switch to during the fight.
Also ditto for braced shot. It’s just such an incredible opener. The ranged master thing you said is a good opener, but another I think I’ve dead before is stealth stalker, as it ups the damage to around 600 base.
Oh and your point about knockdown shot, there’s a certain strategy I’ve liked. It’s to knock down a machine and then go in with the spread shot so I can get up close while they’re immobilized, making tons of the arrows connect on a weak spot

I’m not sure if weapons hang on to the WT they were set to. That’s a good question, I’ll have to check. Do you still like using Stealth Stalker after they nerfed it a couple weeks ago? I know a lot of people were using Stealth Stalker that way, but then they nerfed it so Ranged Master is now stronger. Just wanted to make sure you knew in case you didn’t realize they nerfed it. And that’s a good stretch for using Knockdown Shot! I’ll have to give it a try!

One tip that might be worth mentioning in a future vid for those who like using Valor Surges a lot is how to recharge your Valor surge bar quickly between fights.
I find it helps a lot to equip an armor that has both Stealth Strike +2 and Steath Strike Gain +2 and then go stealth strike a herd of weak machines in between fights. Just 4 or 5 stealth strike kills is enough to fully charge up the meter with Stealth Strike Gain +2 equipped & will get you back ready to go for another big fight.
Stealth Strike +2 on your armor as well as having both Stealth Strike boosts learned in the Infiltrator skill tree is very important as it's the only way to be able to insta kill all small non Apex machines instantly.
The Utaru Whisperer armor is perfect for this, specially since it also has Silent Strike Heal +2 which will also overheal you with each kill at Level 4, so you'll also go into each fight w double health! I use it as my default stealth kill armor thru most of the game due to its overheal & Valor surge restoring abilities.
