      If you haven't played BG2 and are okay with dealing with it's dated Graphics, it's what DA:O built upon. DA:O actually lacks in a lot of aspects compared to BG2 and even BG3 wasn't able to match the amount of player freedom you had in BG2. (Like being able to be evil without having to be a murder hobo and way more party members to choose from, being able to form a completely new party for a Good, Neutral and Evil playthrough. Party member banter was also way better in BG2, after Act 1 in BG3, they basically stop bantering entirely lol)

    Wrath of the Righteous IMO is the ultimate CRPG with insane mechanics, replayability and a very good "angels vs demons" power fantasy kind of story. One of my favorites but I wouldn't recommend it so freely. It has very complex character progression that can easily turn off players new players. Thankfully new players wouldn't want to play on higher difficulties so wouldn't have to suffer through 5 mins of buffing before every fight.

      Someone really needs to make a mod that uses AI to voice act all of the dialogue. I think the biggest thing holding many, many people back from playing cRPGs is the amount of reading involved. #RogueTrader
    This game is in a sweet spot as of Nov 2024
    The dlc is seamlessly integrated and many of the initial bugs have been quashed.
    You play the build you want with no strings attached- and the game has an inbuilt marking system so you can plan your character easily.
    Great game for those who love CRPGs

    • @evidicus

      Rogue Trader is exceptional. But I’d highly suggest looking up character builds. There’s a LOT of options.

    • @alexblades5218
      @alexblades5218 Місяць тому +1

      @evidicus Fair points, but I disagree
      On the default difficulty all classes are OP and all early game recruitable characters have extra abilities that are useful (Abelard has heavy armor, Indira has 2 psychic disciplines, Jae can do almost every skill, as well as max murder).
      Most build videos are really dry and may give a new player tunnel vision with them looking for very specific items.
      New players might get more mileage learning the systems- and at least push through Act 1.
      On default difficulty, it's not too hard to beat the brakes off most enemies, and the game is more forgiving that it was at launch (looking at Aurora #2 and the Eldar). You can respec for free at least a few times, and most CRPG players discard 2 - 3 characters before they settle in for a playthrough.
      Just learn the basics (1 attack per turn, no moving after most attacks), and build your character matching keywords and picking what sounds useful.
      Don't get suckered into an item hunt by a guide and miss half the game

    • @alexblades5218
      @alexblades5218 Місяць тому

      @kurniawandwiseptian less complex
      There are 4 types of defense (ability checks, deflection, armor and dodge), bonuses stack without special rules or types, and there are less classes (you pick a class at level 1 and level 16).
      There are many talents but...... you decide the character you're building and pick talents that fill out their role.
      The only essential talents for every character are "combat master", "duelling mastery", "nimble" and "it will not die". You pick them up gradually and don't have to rush them- if you're wearing medium or heavy armor "nimble" may be optional. If you don't equip any melee weapons "dueling" is optional.

    Problems with Rogue trader:
    - Too long and frequent load screens. I think some of the maps for planets and interplanetary map should be loaded at the same time and preferably in the background
    - It is too easy to optimize any challenge out of the game. Starting around the end of Act 2 enemies never get turns unless you choose to let them. Caveat: It is still fun
    - It's surprisingly buggy this long after launch.
    Still some of the best 160 hours I spent on a video game, and that was just the first play-through. The choices and the writing are on point, and the combat delivers excellent power fantasy, in keeping with the story. It's easy to forgive flaws when the strengths are so profound.

    Just finished Veilguard, took me 80 hours. It's a shame the companion gathering portion of the game is so awful. There's a lot revealed that's been set up since all the way back to Origins by the end of the game. Main story and lore kind of kept me going. The delivery of a lot of it is a total disservice to how long they've been setting things up, though.
    I had issues with Rebirth, it kind of let me down because I was really hyped for how they'd do the overworld once you finally make it outside.
    DD: Dark Arisen was a real hidden gem up until recently. It's original. It's fun. It feels like a bygone era in gaming where developers were still trying new ideas instead of following safe formulas. I just loved my first playthrough because you really feel like you're an explorer uncovering adventures as you explore, instead of being directed to adventures.
    Tyranny is one of my favorite games. I wish more developers would go the bad guy route. The only other game that comes to mind that does it is The Overlord series but those games have not aged well at all. I guess Fable as well.
    I'm really impressed with No Rest for the Wicked and I hope it survives the original publisher going out of business.
    Two other games I'd recommend for people trying to scratch a grimdark itch are Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Divinity: Original Sin 2. A game in Early Access that has a lot of promise I would encourage you to check out is Death Trash, too.

    The second game is even better than the first, and I say this after having invested over 5,000 hours on DD Dark Arisen. Then again, I suppose it comes down to preferences and opinions, and you are entitled to yours. The only thing that is missing from it is a Dark Arisen like DLC area for me to invest years on.

    I recommend checking out Kingdom come: deliverance. Real authentic medieval history, deep rpg systems, combat is based on real historical fighting manuals and feels a lot like actual fencing with a longsword.
    Then there is Sekiro: Shadows die twice. Art and story are breath taking, combat is some of the best out there and while rpg style choices are few, they are really good.
    God of War (2018) is also great. Good combat (a little spongy enemies though), great cinematic storytelling and actual depth in the story. Lacks the choice element call it rpg, but it's still good.
    Lies of P is great too. Excellent combat and atmosphere, and with second play-through story is also great.

    Vampyr. You can decide who to kill in the game as a vampire. If you kill a lot of people you'll be stronger. But you can finish the whole game without drinking human blood and finish it as a pacifist. The downside is every enemy will be higher level than you and the game will be much harder. And my god, you can kill ANYONE in that game. The more you learn about an npc the more xp you'll get once you drink their blood. And killing someone is always a big choice because you can potentially lock/alter active quests and the world will react to your choices (with lots of vampire hunters and locked down districts), unlike in Veilguard.

    I think Dragon age: origins animations were never really good. That's not how swords handle. But that doesn't matter, because what it succeeded as was the RPG side of things. Origins were great, mage lore was great, choices were interesting, dialogue was great and the jailbreak scene was legendary. And the dog was the best.
    To be fair to other installments in the series, while they weren't good as games, they had some good ideas:
    - DA2: Good redesign of Quanari aesthetics.
    - DAI: Smart controller supports. It has a really competent framework for a game, it's just the actual content that doesn't deliver.
    - Veilguard: Performance to graphics ratio is good, no dlc or ea launcher, easy to get running on steam deck.

    Not a fan of origins but it did introduce me to the series. The only Dragon age I am a fan of and think is the best is of course DA2. The only negative I can give it is the linear gameplay. Combat was great, story was awesome, characters look and background were intriguing, for me the game was just on another level than origins. The combat gameplay of origins bored the shit outta me, and i played many games that I enjoyed using that form of combat. Something about origins just didn’t pull me in.

People seem to bash it for minor bad political portions majority of the world is amazing no quest markers no minimap its like a well crafted semi open world. I just dont see whats wrong with it other than its not a dark fantasy DA, its high fantasy that does not make it a bad game.

    Veilguard helped me realize how much I hate consoomers with low standards. The fact anyone who calls themselves a dragon age fan could say that disrespectful slop of a lore destroying HR lecture is even ok, is a crime against creativity. On the bright side at least the game is a failure and makes it more likely the current studio wearing biowares skin will go out of business and a new studio can get a shot at dragon age in the future. Retconning VG would be the best start.
