70 Ton Excavator pulling the Abandoned 40 Ton Terex Bulldozer on a transporter

- The Terex 82-40 Dozer had been abandoned for 15 years at the Heaphy coal mine on the West coast of the South Island New Zealand when it was replaced by a newer Cat D9.
We tried to get it running but unfortunately we had starter motor issues so ended up pulling it on to the Low Bed using a Volvo EC700 digger with a little help from an EX200 Hitachi. It's off to the workshop to be restored by local Heavy Machine gurus Brownie, John and Bob. - Навчання та стиль
It's a young man bulldozer gently helping an old man bulldozer abandoned.
Good job putting it on the low loader ,fair play to the Hitachi operator .He is a surgeon in his field of heavy machine operations .

With the axles taken out of the drive sprockets...there is nothing but the chains holding it to the deck....
emergency rapid braking of the truck might be exciting for the truck driver....without the chains?

Seeing the older pieces of equipment being saved is nice to see.

That’s what I was thinking. I’ve never seen any company throw that much manpower just to get rid of one piece of equipment.
@@Page5framing I worked on a coal mine site for a long time and the one thing I always seen was if they want something done quick they throw all the labour and resources at it to get it done haha
Extremely clever use of the Hitachi. Well done. That's A LOT of iron to have to move. Good luck to the team which wants to restore that beast.

No matter what country you are from, most people cheer for success for the crew and project like this. Great job and hope for great outcome. 👍
Watching that chain stretch like a spring was amazing. That was a first to actually see a chain elongate like that. Definitely a pucker factor there waiting for it to pop!
" Weakest Link " comes from chains stretched to limit...
Had it broken it would've gone "whippa whipppa whippa whippa" and flown 400' and taken anybody's heads off who were in the way!

Gosh when the excavator is pulling on the chain you can see it stretching, lucky it didn't break.

That Volvo EC700 excavator is a beast. Very interesting video and hope to see it as the project evolves.

They were really confident of the ground packing I guess its just local knowledge
Operated one of those some back in early 1980’s. There is a big carrier bearing on the fan shaft just behind the seat. It blew apart and knocked my hat off…could have been my head!
Yeah those chains need to be retired after this job, lol. Pretty wild watching them stretch.

The 82 40 Terex was a big unit but I don't think it was 40 tons ,but anyway what awesome project to rebuild that cool piece of 2 Stroke Detroit history, really interesting

Very common over here in NZ, most of the logging trucks seem to cab over
Look up New Zealand Trucks on utube and you'll be surprised how many cab- overs we have in nz. All shapes and sizes, different makes and models.

wow the EC700 is just such a beauty. I operate an ECR235 but its nothing compared to that angel of a machine!
And look at how they chained it down at the end. Obviously worried that a wind gust might hit it and it might float away. :P

The restoration guys know they have a ten year retirement plan ahead of them. Hope their respective wives are thrilled to bits about that 🤩🤩🤩

Whenever we had to move equipment that had been sitting for years. We would spray down the undercarriage with diesel the day before. And about an hour before the move. It would roll much easier.

It makes me feel really old seeing the state of the art beast when I started being hauled off to be restored. Back then everything was going two cycle and the sound of excavation had changed. The sound of power! Thankfully that bap and snort has faded and the Cats chug on.

I have never seen a Terex dozer, but have worked on many Terex scrapers. I only ever loaded a Cat dozer with help from another D8, fortunately we were able to get the engine to run, so definitely not as difficult as this. Good luck with the restoration.

3/8 chain for this is never going to cover it a second time, especially since the chains is now stiff as a board! My dad was pulling out stumps with his old D6 and I was helping and the first stump he pulled with that 3/8s chain made the chain stiff it was so stretched out. In the end and after another stretched stiff 1/2" chain he finally bought a 3/4" chain and that was so damned heavy to move around it pretty much took two guys to rig every pull, but it didnt stretch!
I believe there are heavy duty straps designed for this sort of work that are far superior to chain as they handle shock load much better and have higher load capacity. Chain snaps and when it does, very bad things happened as all the energy stored in the chain under great tension...that tensile force is converted into chain link shrapnel.
You were not there and don't know what size of chain it was.
Surprised those excavators could even move that massive bulldozer.
excavators are super handy machines............
I know the restoration job will take years ... BUT a video of the FIRST START UP would be GREAT ! Love to hear old machines come back to life

That's really incredible to see.. It's amazing that the excavator can manipulate 40 tons like me taking bread out of the toaster.. And i'd be really curious to know what the tensile strength of that chain is.. Impressive...
