So so,true. First visit 1994, I always wonder what happened to them and I deeply hope that they found happiness... Because they gave you happiness in a time that you were sad or down... 🙏🏼 Bless them
This was such a great video. You’ve had a very fascinating life. Hope you have many more years of good health and will continue to produce your terrific videos.
Very well said Peter Thanks for sharing some of your life stories from Thailand very entertaining indeed I only discovered your channel recently and am so glad I did . Thanks again
Peter, nice change of pace video. Really interesting to see you relive some of your old memories. Hope that you're around a lot longer than 10-20 yrs my good man.😁
It's been amazing listening to your experience. I moved with my parents to Thailand in '92. I was 9 at the time. We lived there for 3 years and it was only two years ago that I returned to Thailand since I had left as a child. While I didn't explore the bar scene as a 9 year-old, a lot of the changes that you observed felt very familiar. And just like you, Thailand was also the first place I started using the internet. It was mindblowing. Thank god I didn't find any of the freelancer sites you mentioned. :D I'm now living in Cambodia, which feels a lot like Thailand in the 90s. Many interesting places that aren't on every tourist brochure or instagram post. While I do enjoy some aspects of Cambodia, I'm planning to move to Thailand soon. One minor addition: There were some fastfood restaurants in the 90s. I remember going to Pizza Hut, and Hard Rock Cafe which I think they opened in the early 90s (although not fastfood, but very western). I really enjoy the stories that you read. Thank you for the entertainment!
I've subscribed for a few years now but this is my first reply. I just realised my wife worked for you at Sofitel. Only as a bellboy but in her mid twenties she was cute in her uniform and did very well from tips. She left in 1997 and we met up in 1998. She learnt to speak English thanks to Sofitel.
My first trip was 1996. Some great memories. I wrote a book about Bangkok and Pattaya in the late 90's. Angel's disco was great. International beer garden lit up like a Christmas tree. Afterskool was fantastic (naughty boys corner)... great days great memories.
When I first visited Thailand, Pattaya was R&R for American navy..40 years ago...When they arrived, they would go crazy. Also Germans were the largest percentage of tourists. Now seems to be mostly old English 😮.
Good stuff Peter!! Thailand sounded like a blast in the old days. It still is a blast today just different, love this community. You have built Peter. Cheers!!! 😁
Interesting to hear about the early days in Thailand. I'm a Johnny come lately relatively as my first trip there was in 2005. I like the concept of fan only budget rooms which I prefer. Pity you didn't have any old photos from that period Peter. Maybe in a futer video?
Memories, Peter. I also stayed in the Asia hotel on my first trip in 1987. It was crap so we moved to the Dynasty Inn...there followed a 35 year friendship with that great hotel. I remember a disco in the Nana called the Love Club...same place as Angels?
Was interesting to review your younger and unrestrained years, albeit without any gory, personal details that safegaurd your privacg. As older and hopefully more mature guys, we see things differently now. We don't take the same risks now, and anyway have settled into an easier and more comfortable routine. Will be in Pattaya in 2 weeks time. Traveling around South East Asia for 6 weeks. Hope to bump into you. Keep well.
I remember the night club in the Nana hotel! I stayed 2 nights in the Nana hotel in 2006. First trip. 24 years old. I remember spending first night in Angels! Madness! Fresh meat etc lol
hi peter well done to you you in my opinion are number on you tube for expert advice on Thailand over the years ,i have never missed a video that you have put out
The original beer garden has now gone and been replaced with a beer bar that looks the same as all the others in the street. I was there two nights ago. It's still called the beer garden, but it's basically a beer bar.
One of the most interesting things I've experienced in Thailand, is being able to cash in my USD cheques and get the money instantly! Most of the time, it would take 30 days to clear, but for some reason this particular Bangkok Bank branch would clear it instantly. I would check the ATM machine and the money was available within minutes of depositing the cheque.
By that stirred a few memories. I have been here 21 years and I remember the jukebox in the Thermae and next to hooters, on Soi 4, there used to be an internet cafe. Cost about 5 pounds a minute to call home, Peter, do you remember the bars on the corner of Asoke? Used to be where Citibank is / was? There was a very popular bar called Popeyes? There was also a bar complex between Soi 11 and 13.
Yes I do remember, There was a big white bar in the middle called the White House, modeled on the actual White House. To get to the complex, you had to lift back some corrugated tin.
Also, The Long Gun used to be owned by an American . On ,Saturday's he would give the punters free chilli and corn bread. All the girls had to dance naked.
I loved listening to recollection of your experiences in Thailand. I'm just a few years younger than you & first visited Thailand (Bangkok) in the mid 90's. Life for me has not been the same since, in a good way. I recognised some of the places you mentioned & I reckon I could add a few more as I started with the backpacker option, no fancy hotels for me back in the day. I enjoy your channel but can't get my head around the issues farangs still have with Thai women. I mean, the internet has changed the playing field. Anyone visiting Thailand & availing of female company should be well aware of how things work in the land of smiles.
Hi Peter, I really enjoyed your story. It's a funny thing I actually been to the Sofitel now Pullman in Khon Kaen in 2011 I paid at the time 1,900 Baht best hotel I have ever been.
Going for my third trip to Thailand and staying for a month. I really want to have a go at Muay Thai and join a gym in Pattaya! 😅 I’ve been saying that for a while but every other time I’ve been all I did was party and enjoy myself 😂😂😂 I’m quite happy to do that all over again but this time; unfortunately I do need to get some work done, an online course to hit my deadline. Wish me well 😊
So funny Peter, great stories, i remember dial up used to take about three days to upload a PC update, i won't even go there with UK telephone boxes, remember having to press either button A or B when using one...lol. my age is showing now sir. nice vlog, cheers.
@@ThailandBound Really did enjoy it. Brought back so many sweet sour memories, as I started visiting Thailand from 1998. I remember a bar off soi 15/13 named "The Living room" a blues bar with an American band " Soi Dogs", was a favorite hang out of mine. Loved your memory about the dial up device with the most irritable dial tone. Thanks again mate.
In the last 3-4 years of my stay in Bangkok, I would eat only Russian food daily, sometimes, Lebanese food, together with a shisha (hookah). The owner of the restaurant let me run a tab which I settled at the end of every month, which was very convenient, since I didn't have to bring any money with me to eat at his place.
Hi Peter.. I do watch your video often..but never comments till now.. The questions I like to ask you If you OK to answer me and maybe viewers You been living in thailand for past 30,yes plus.. OK my questions is.. Have you ever been serious ill or injured which you experienced during your 30 yrs in thailand.. If so did you apply for insurance policy which covered for hospital fee.. Anyway thanks ..
Fortunately, I’ve been very lucky throughout my life. I’ve only been admitted to hospital when I was under 10 years old to have my tonsils removed. I’ve never broken a bone. Apart from one bout of food poisoning in Singapore, I’ve never. been sick other than your flus and your yearly colds.
Hi Peter you sound very experienced on Thailand living expenses. I have a couple of questions if you would be kind enough to answer them I appreciate it. I am 62 and my wife is 57. If we retired to Thailand is 20,000 baht per month (approximately $900 aud ) enough to rent a two bedroom dwelling.? If we then had another 40,000 baht per month ($1800 aud) sufficient to live on? I am not interested in other women or alcohol at all. I do smoke cigarettes. (20 per day) We have about $450,000 aud which is about 228,000 pounds I would need good internet and good air conditioning. In 5 years time I will draw a pension of currently about $500 per week aud approx 11,000 baht We mostly cook at home but like to go out for a meal once per week. Taking into account things like health care, visa's food, electric, internet, water, is this realistic? Or am I under calculating? Thank you
2 people, minimum 75-80 thousands. Don´t forget health insurance, is not cheap. And stay away from the tourist areas. A 2 bedroom apartment, 10000-30000 baht depending on where you are. Food? If you like thai food, you can get 3 meals a day with water + fruit for 200 baht.
Really enjoyed this. My first trip was about 7 or 8 years ago, even then when you walked in a bar the girls would bring a cold wipe from the fridge and wipe the back of your neck and your forehead, it made you feel like a king. Sadly a rarity these days.
Another great video peter, any thailand newbie reading these comments should hit the subscribe button, you can't buy experience like this! All the best and stay lucky peter 😁
Thailand was a lot wilder 30 years ago. Now the huge buildings are moving in slowly and taking over Sukhumvit. The hot girls learned during covid they could make more on the internet than at a bar. Prices are inflated much more now. Slowly everything is disappearing.
Used to love an afternoon drink in Rodeogirls, best soi in Pattaya 20 years ago When i first came to Pattaya 25 years ago i remember i never saw a fat thai lady anywhere, how times have changed
Think he means Khon Kaen should be pronounced "Khon Gaen" ... "K" with a "h" after it is pronounced with a "K" sound but a word like Kaen that does not have a "h" after the "K" is pronounced with a "G"
When you are at the bar you remember all the bar girls that made you smile over the years and the ones you wish you could see again

You look great Peter. What is the name of the Mic you are using?
rodeo... like Soi Cowboy...
No, DJI
Dji
Your Mic has a weird low level distortion, I think it's an easy fix,,slightly make your voice vibrate.
It is good my end watching on PC and TV?
What do you think things will be like in 10 or 15 years from now?
I'm guessing Thailand will be similar to Singapore by then
more expensive and girls will be fatter!
10 out of 10 for that old "dial up" sound ..
40 to 50Kb per second..
would the living cost be doubled if u live with partner and support her? btw, great VDO
Not really the cost would be slightly more because of the food you buy but it wouldn't be a lot
