  • This video shows dichroic glass being used to fill several fused glass jewelry molds (Colour de Verre, Creative Paradise, Slumpys). It was originally several Periscope broadcasts that totaled allmost 1.5 hrs of video. But I have reduced it to less than 16 minutes. Enjoy. Very nice to give these nice things to Foster kids. Thanks for all the info! BTW Patty Gray molds says to have kiln shelf paper at the bottom of the mold to prevent air bubbles :-)

    Great video! Do you have one on preparing the molds such as what coating/paper? to use? I haven't bought any molds yet but am interested in what else I might need to use them. I'm using microwave kilns, 1 small & 1 large so just starting out in the 'acquiring' end :) Love that you donate your items. So generous of you but I can tell from your videos that you are a very giving person. Thanks a bunch!

      And do you need to re-coat the molds between each firing?

    What kind of clippers do you use? and where do you get the dichro scrap? That is a lot of dichro! This is a great tutorial So great that you give pieces to foster kids, very generous. I wish I were closer to you

      Annie Kuhn I got the mosaic tile nippers from eBay. The dichroic scrap is just my leftovers. 😁. I hope this encourages others to do something similar for the foster kids in their area❣️

    When you add more dichroic glass after the initial firing and fire it again, what firing schedule would you use the second time?

    Hi Susan, When you refired your molds did you spray them again? Thank you❣️

    Someone already asked and you answered, but I was looking at your fingers and wondered if you were using ZYP or some type of boron nitrite.

    • @SusanMcGarryGlass
      @SusanMcGarryGlass  6 років тому

      Michael Blackston my understanding is ZYP & MR-97 are both boron nitrate. I hope that answers your question.

    I wonder if you have ever tried using dichroic frit to help fill in the voids and prevent the glass from pulling in and creating gaps. I find it very helpful especially in jewelry molds around the posts so I can be sure to have enough weight to prevent them from pulling in without using too large of a piece of scrap glass that minimizes or eliminates the hole.

    Beautiful! What do you call the nippers you were using?

    What do you mean with firing polish , By the way I love you work and ideas!

      Malu Nicolette thank you! Fire polishing is done in the kiln about 1350 F. It's an easy way to get shiny edges on your glass without cold working. 🔥

    Which Kiln Wash do you use in your jewelry molds? Love your videos!

      Debbie Barnett I usually use a boron nitrite spray like MR-97 for the jewelry molds so I don’t lose any detail.

      I believe she said some of them were Paradise molds (which is probably the name of the company), at least one is a Patty Gray mold, & others I recognize as Colour deVerre molds (which I use). Each of those 3 businesses can be found online & you can buy directly from them. If you have a business license, you can open accounts with wholesale companies & get better prices on the molds & everything else.
      Don't know why Susan didn't answer you, but I hope you don't mind I did. Hope it helps!

      It is Creative Paradise Glass molds. . . . www.creativeparadiseglass.com. You can also find Patty Gray molds on Creative Paradise Glass's website. The others were Colour deVerre and possibly slumpy molds. I have all 3 companies jewelry molds.
