- This is a quick & easy project with bits of dichroic glass & wire. I really enjoy making these pieces for myself & as gifts. This was originally a Live Facebook broadcast that I have edited for UA-cam & added pictures of the finished pieces. Enjoy!

Microwave kiln, would i be able to enamel metal...i wouldnt think so because it arc correct?

Hi Ellen, generally kilns don’t smell when firing but some of the things you put in there can. Fire paper is something that can produce a small so you can use kiln wash instead.
Wow this is amazing. I have a microwave kiln. How long do I heat and at what level (low or high) to get this done with my kiln? I dont know what any equivalent temps are for microwave kilns...
Emily Corona every kiln, especially microwave kilns are dependent on SO many different factors including type of microwave kiln, power of microwave, type & thickness of glass, etc. So you will have to do a few tests.

I only have a manual kiln. I am thinking low for an 45 mins, medium 45 then high to 1425. I am guessing!
I recommend you get a digital programmer! :-)
Have you ever tried PMC? I thought it'd make a beautiful pairing: Precious Metal Clay's (gold, fine silver, copper,bronze) and glass!
I have. It’s expensive & stains the kiln shelf so be sure to dedicate a shelf just for metal clay
Can you use a torch instead of kiln? I’ve never seen anything like that before it’s really cool! Where do you get your supplies?
Kathleen Small town girl - I’ve never tried a torch so you’d know better than me. I get most of my glass from DichroicInc.com and my bails from Aanraku.com I get my cords & chains from both of them.
Gluing bails on glass, is there a preferred method for a finished look?
Terry Nicholson I do have a preferred method to glue on bails. I go over it in many of my videos.
Tried one in my microwave kiln today and it worked out OK. A little flatter than yours, but hard to control the final heat sequence.

Rick Johnson it’s been a while so I don’t remember but anything would work. A chain, a silk cord, a ribbon, anything. Pick a favorite! 😁
Rick Johnson I usually use a glue on bail on the back and a satin cord. Just depends what I have laying around. (sorry for the SLOW response. I blame it on UA-cam). 😁
Hi Susan, thankyou for your tutorials. I’m a beginner and enjoying the experience. With this firing schedule do you mean just that 1 segment? 260celcius up to 760celcius for 10min then off. Was just wondering about annealing. Kind regards Sue.
Sue Russ yes, 1 segment. These are so small, no need to anneal

Sue Russ I want to clarify, it’s not that small pieces don’t need to be annealed it’s that they are so small that they can anneal as the kiln is naturally cooling down. So no need to program a segment for annealing.

Michael Blackston oh my! So many fused glass groups to pick from on Facebook. Fusedglass.org is a good general group but there are also some great specific groups. Like microwave kiln fused glass, etc. just search your favorite glass words in “groups”.

How do you get them to the kiln without them falling off?
You can use a bit of glue but I didn't need any. They traveled to the kiln just fine. Lucky!
I think you would construct it right on the board piece that goes into the kiln
Valerie Cuan I usually use cheap hairspray to glue my glass together. Cheap & doesn’t leave a residue. But you can also build it in the kiln.

you mentioned using papyrus paper,,,doesnt that burn?
R Marsh great question!!! The “Papyrus” paper I’m using is the name of a special kiln paper that can withstand the high temperatures. It’s not the same as the pretty paper that is used to make greeting cards. 😁

Dany Ledon At about 9 minutes into the video I mentioned the firing schedule I used. 500F per hr to 1400F & hold 10 min (260C per hr to 760C & hold 10 min) But of course it might be different for your kiln.
1400 too high
hustler3of4culture3 are you saying 1400F was too high for your kiln? Temperatures are so kiln dependent!
