I know procreate is worth it but im telling you why Adobe products are the amount they are. They are meant for artists working at a professional level, why else would you drop that much? its not meant for little anime fan art. heres a tip when your using a drawing app that cant let you color on a sepreate layer. just duplicate the line art and color on the lineart below (make sure you have found all the mistakes on ur lineart)

Note: Procreate is getting a mega update soon and one of the biggest updates for it is the brush engine. Following this update you will be able to import photoshop brushes and you can customise brushes more. It also will have an update to the animation feature (live preview, onion skin, etc). I like to purchase custom brushes. As a semi-realism portrait artist, my favorites are skin textures, freckles, eyelashes and hair, and plants - I don’t wanna take time to try to draw plants. Lol. As far as built-in brushes, I love the technical pen, air brush, and the light pen for shiny eyes and teeth and jewelry. The orientalist brush is very cool and painterly as well. The new halftones feature is cool, or you could always find a picture of screen tone, and use it as a clipping mask wherever you want.

There is a way around free trials, I use it for premium on UA-cam. You get the free trial, then go to your subscriptions in the settings and hit cancel, you can do this as many times as you want and you don’t get billed. And you can still access until it expires, this only works on IOS. I figured this out as a broke student, it helps.
As a professional digital artist "realistic" brushes are more often than not just a gimick and not something actually useful. Give me good set of utility tools and good brush engine with ability to customize them and I'm golden

Printer paper and pencil is the best way to work. I perfer to scan in my art and color it digitally. I use clip studio paint.

Note: Procreate is getting a mega update soon and one of the biggest updates for it is the brush engine. Following this update you will be able to import photoshop brushes and you can customise brushes more. It also will have an update to the animation feature (live preview, onion skin, etc).

The paint bucket pixel thing with Adobe has made my life so hard. Don’t know what they were smoking when they decided to make the paint bucket NOT PAINT. but I feel so much rage about it.

I like to purchase custom brushes. As a semi-realism portrait artist, my favorites are skin textures, freckles, eyelashes and hair, and plants - I don’t wanna take time to try to draw plants. Lol. As far as built-in brushes, I love the technical pen, air brush, and the light pen for shiny eyes and teeth and jewelry. The orientalist brush is very cool and painterly as well. The new halftones feature is cool, or you could always find a picture of screen tone, and use it as a clipping mask wherever you want.

Ibis paint is super easy to use. I had procreate but I choosed ibisPaint but now that I have procreate I can’t even- I love procreate!

There is a way around free trials, I use it for premium on UA-cam. You get the free trial, then go to your subscriptions in the settings and hit cancel, you can do this as many times as you want and you don’t get billed. And you can still access until it expires, this only works on IOS. I figured this out as a broke student, it helps.
