The NEW Goldwing has been announced! Except...it's not from Honda. Is this the Goldwing KILLER?

- A contender to the Goldwing title has been announced, except it's not from Honda. But in almost every way, it looks and is designed like a Goldwing - with an EIGHT CYLINDER, 2000 cc engine and the latest technology. Will this push Honda to up their game? Or does this spell the end for the Honda Goldwing?

I'll stick with a Goldwing.
Definitely
That is what people said about Indian in 1952.
A Gold Wing is more than a collection of parts. Any company can copy the parts and put it together. But that doesn't mean that the parts are functionally identical or made to the same height standards. Nor does it mean that the company will stand behind their product, and fix any issues that may arise.
Just because you copy a product and you make improvements on that "copy" doesn't mean that it is superior than the original.
Exactly. 👍👍
GWM Suo S2000 has no similar or identical parts to Honda Gold Wing, GWM have patented of all their parts, they look identical but there is no copycat parts
copying is much have bigger chances to become much more superior than original and it is proven to BYD YangWang U8 SUV that looks identical to Land Rover Defender but have so much more specs and features
@@totzinfo nah, there still junk.
Metallurgy is probably the worst in comparison. However that is cheap China. There is non cheap, on the verge of competing on the higher levels of production vehicles be it cars or bikes. The fact that they do copy worldwide brands flagship models should be addressed legally I'd think?
I have lived in Iraq for the last 8 years and there are Great Wall trucks everywhere. They are absolute crap. I wouldn't touch that thing with a 100 foot pole.
I can't wait to see these Chi-Coms broke down on the side of the road. Where would you take it for parts/repair?
There's a reason it's called "Cheap Chinese junk". All glitz and sparkle, but cheap engineering where they can hide it.
NO! I would not consider.
We’d all be better off buying less chicom stuff.
I agree. Why support a regime that wants the Death of our Civilization?
This. Hyping up chicom garbage is not a good look either.
I really make an effort, but we are overwhelmed with China crap. On many things, just no other choice except do without. Our Politicians could have done much better for decades. They made lots of money.
Absolutely essential.
The owner of a Goldwing is not only the owner of a motorcycle, the Goldwing is a legend, it is recognition, it is a personality, it is a career, it is trust, it is 50 years of evolution. All this cannot be supplanted by a nice screen and a bigger engine.
LOL!
And have a look at it I know a Goldwing is not a sport bike but this thing looks like it will lean about 2° in either direction before scraping out😂
I wonder what was said 50 years ago when the GW arrived on the scene. ;)
@@Visionery1it instantly revolutionized motorcycling. When the gold wing came out, nobody said it was Chinese crap. Everyone was immediately blown away with the build quality and specs, like with any Japanese motorcycle manufacturer.
@@thagingerninjer5391 when the first cars arrived from Japan in the 50s everybody responded exactly as they do now with Chinese cars and bikes, they also had their fair share of failure. Chinese cars are increasingly taking over the roads in South Africa, if they were crap, word would soon get out. Why would bikes be any different, they've had enough time to eye the competition. It's phenomenal what has happened in China the past 10-20 years in the fields of technology, engineering, construction, roads, rail etc. I'm looking forward to an unbiased road test of this huge Chinese 'Gold Wing'.
What could go wrong with a Chinese 8 cylinder quad cam?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So don’t call it a goldwing that’s false advertisement
There is no way I’d ever purchase, ride a Chinese Motorcycle.. in typical Chinese Fashion, it’s a knock off of the Goldwing.
A thinking man for sure. CCP junk as usual. Took 'em 1500 years to build the wall. yeah.....
there is no single components of GWM S2000 identical to Honda Goldwing
@@totzinfo 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ You must work for China, or need glasses. I’ll bet you’d say the same about Chinese Destroyers which incredibly are identical to USN Destroyers..
@@totzinfo Hence the exact reason it's CRAP.
how come it's a knock off from Honda Goldwing when it is a Flat 8 cylinder while Goldwing is only Flat 6, Dual overhead Camshaft while Goldwing is only Single overhead Camshaft, 2,000 c.c. engine size capacity wile Goldwing is only 1800 c.c. engine size capacity, 12 dual clutch gears transmission while Goldwing is only 8 dual clutch gears and many more features not found in Honda Goldwing
Remember the old bumper sticker, "Buy American, the Job You Save May Be Your Own"
That doesn't help sell Goldwings either.
They stopped making goldwings in Ohio in 2009 I believe.
Right. Buy American. Harley or Indian.
@@fredmoss-yf2jc LOL! u think those are American? the parts are sourced from all over the world. Yes, even China.
@@fredmoss-yf2jc Not f'kn Harley, their QA has been shipped off to never never land. Indian is a totally different story.
I still own a GL1500. I would be reluctant to buy an unproven Chinese product that is also lacking the dealer support network of Honda.
Same with any repair parts! I guess Temu can will be your go to place😅
I will give it a couple of years to see how it will hold up! But Honda better get its shit together with all the recalls and other little problems they have with there motorcycles. There not what they use to be!!!
💯💯💯💯 %%%%
there?? where?
Mate, please check for typos before posting - it's 'their' and 'they're'.
You don’t think the chi com will have any recalls ?
Since Every goldwing from 2018 up is self destructing,Honda better watch it's ass from competitors
They have a long way to go to match service facilities offered by Honda and by independent motorcycle mechanics. No thank you.
GWM has already large network of dealership globally, because they are not making only motorcycles but also EV cars, SUVs, and heavy construction and mining equipments
Wrong, I own a 97 1500 SE.. I love in central Missouri and not 1 fucking dealer within 200 mile raidius will even change the fucking oil on it. They only have support for their newer $ 30,000 dollar bikes...
@totzinfo and no I would never own any golding newer than a 2000.. newer Goldwing bikes are fucking junk
Every dealership I've called looking for service wouldn't work on anything more than 10 years old unless it was just tires. Independent shops that's a different story.
Comparing apples to oranges. Just like old cars, you have to find an independent motorcycle mechanics willing to work on old Goldwings if you cannot address a problem. I have a 1999 Aspencade and I found such a business less than 20 minutes from where I live. Honda has dealerships and service facilities across the US for newer generation motorcycles, which was the point of my comment. Where is one for this bike?
No thanks. I'm not interested in their cars or motorcycles. And if they stole Honda IP to make this bike, then it shouldn't be allowed in any country that obeys intellectual property laws.
I want that engine for go Kart project
I’ve been a Golding rider for many many yrs. There is no way I would buy this new replica of one of the nice motorcycles ever to be put on the street
@@disconductorder Why? You can get better numbers with less mass & weight.
@@NVArt001 the sound makes it worth it, flat V8's have that old school f1 sound
As an Australian I’m very used to American corporations stealing our IP. Your entire patent and copyright systems are corrupt and broken. It was American courts who allowed Apple to patent a rectangle with rounded corners, your courts that allowed a photographer to “own” any image photographed against a black background. Used by everyone for decades but your courts recognised his “rights”. Can’t blame the Chinese from giving Western corporations a bit of karma.
On a related note GWM cars and trucks are excellent and very popular down under. Chinese companies bother us much less than the decades we spent enduring overpriced under-featured crap from GM and Ford. Great Wall (GWM) may well have reverse engineered this bike. But the next one will be all theirs, just as happened with their cars.
I’m retired and enjoy restoring older Honda motorcycles from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. I bought my first Honda in 1968 and have owned 35 Hondas since then. Honda is known for great design and great manufacturing that results in quality products. Although I do see more quality products coming out of China than I saw in the past, in general Chinese companies are still known for copying rather than innovating, and for very shoddy quality in manufacturing. I’m guessing 5 years from now I will still be looking for my first sighting of one of these Chinese “Goldwing” bikes on a US road.
Wow… restoring old gold wings, what an amazing hobby. I would love it if you started a UA-cam channel and just told us Goldwing stories. You would make a fortune and never have to leave your coach.
Look at the resale values of Great Wall products. They plummet, and there is a reason for that.
Well, to be fair, the resale value of modern European cars is not exactly something to celebrate either, you lose thousands as you drive off the showroom floor.
@@Visionery1 Perhaps so, but at least they support their products. And more to the point the people buying them are not exactly worried about the cost. FYI. They buy them for the superior engineering (cough, cough, cough)
Gold Wing has always had one thing going for it that made it the touring bike to have. Reliability. A 30 year old GL1500 will take you across the country with one carb working and everyone knows it because it's been done. Not sure I want to be stuck in a corn field in Iowa waiting for Hong Kong Phooey to come and fix my bike. I'll wait but if it turns out to be a better bike than the Honda, that's on them.
My 30-year-old Aspi took 70-year-old me from Heidelberg, Germany to Kyiv, Ukraine last March. 2000 km, some of the worst roads you will see, many traffic control posts, soldiers, etc. Never faltered, and still drew admiring smiles.
as a 2018 dct tour glowing owner I would NOT consider buying this bike.BUT I do think that honda should use an all digital dash and maybe add some safety features such as blind spot monitoring
@@gilsoutherland3562 If you need-blind spot monitoring you shouldn't be on a bike
Very simple, no way, no how!
it's all about Kasin Engineering..my 1976 parts list can still be ordered from Honda Japan. in the year 2102 will you be able to order parts for it? how is the build quality?
It's cute on the showroom floor, but how does it ride? How is the quality control? Operating costs? Parts availability?
Don't get too enthused until we find out if this is just more Chinese "Tofu-dregs" . . .
I'm sure some people would buy them, but without a good dealer network, technicians to work on them, and parts supply, it wouldn't be worth the purchase price no matter if it is less than a Goldwing.
Yea, that ride back to China for the first oil change is a doozy ;-)
No one needs a motorcycle that big, a big bike like that takes away from the feel of a motorcycle.
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki used to be competition to the Goldwing and they all failed to dominate. Perhaps Honda has not remained competitive without competition that isn’t V-twin powered, but I doubt it. The new wing has an alternative front end and it has lost weight. Some don’t appreciate that, but they seem to continue to sell pretty well for such an expensive bike. One wonders what the upper limit of weight is on a motorcycle when suspension and tires are considered. The 8 cylinder will add length that won’t necessarily add to rider and passenger space and will contribute to turning radius. It will be interesting to see, but even if the warranty is 10 years, what good is it if you breakdown in the middle is nowhere and parts aren’t available and there isn’t a dealer within 500 miles?
In my opinion, the six cylinder Kawasaki, and Yamaha and Suzuki V4's were better than the GL 1200.
@@fredtracy3931I liked the 1200 and 1300 Ventures. It was pretty cool that the engine was similar to the engine in the Vmax. I was in high school and wasn’t really interested in them and couldn’t begin to afford one. For some reason, it always seemed like the reviews put the Goldwing on top. Perhaps it was due to the advertising in the magazine. I still don’t feel like I could afford a Goldwing even if I wanted one. They are in new car territory for me.
@@alanhassall I was 17 when Suzuki released the Cavalcade 1400 in 1985, and I remember the Kawasaki Voyager 1300 being called the Texas moped, on the cover of Cycle World. :)
It is always good to have a little competition in the market. Brings down pricing.
100%
just give your job to another china company.
@@carbonarrow7 Tell me, what is not made in China, these days? Even American flags are made there, PLEASE! LOL. You want me to change the world? I am too tiny for that.
Unfortunately in Australia we have Great wall. I am a mechanic so to say i will NEVER buy a vehicle built by GW .. They are terrible complete with Extremely poor materials used in the manufacture of them. dont get me wrong they come with all the bells and whistles but thats it. the longest we had to wait for an engine mount a consumable part is 3 months. not weeks months. dont do it
Still waiting for Harley parts I ordered 4months ago. Seems to be the norm these days
@@esesrides1255 They’re probably coming from Asia as well
That's because Harleys parts are cast form steel melted inside active volcano, and forged with bare hands. Then they place parts on the gravestone of Arthur Davidson and waiting for full moon so Arthur can bless those parts with his spirit.
That's takes time
@@chrisvader2630 And don’t forget, it’s all done under the Global Trade Support of Thailand, Brazil, China and Taiwan manufacturing and sealed with nice hefty made in America (but it’s mostly not) price tag. God bless HD.
Thanks for the heads up, I'm sure the will get to the UK at some point but I wouldn't trust something this complex to anyone but Honda! It would be interesting to find out how much though.
A major thing to consider is parts and service. It would be wise to wait and see how successful that this bike will be.
Hope you are enjoying your flying interest. I have owned my GL 1500 sine 2000. I built my velocity aircraft in 1991. Still enjoy flying this canard aircraft.
Love it, I was just up flying tonight, as a matter of fact!
Same as others, reliability and service will be the big question that only time or an outstanding execution would tell. Wonder if they did when Honda designed the GL1500 subjected to extreme testing for design validation, and still many issues had to be addressed over time. China has come long way, but great companies take years to build respect, trust and reputation on consumers eyes 👍🏼
I would sure like to ride it. I have a kove 450 rally. The build quality is excellent. I expect this new bike will be extremely well built.
my very first bike I learnt to ride on was an 81 Goldwing every bike I have ever had was a Goldwing . i doubt that this will change for me .. its a good looking bike ..will be interesting to see how it survives. Thanks for sharing
No, even if the bike was fantastic. The company making it has no infrastructure (dealerships, repair shops , parts ) here in the USA. Also, you don't know if it's reliable.
Nice too see you Scott how's the plane flying going great see you
It's great! Check it out over at www.youtube.com/@CanardBoulevard
1800 CC's is not enough? My 1500 is plenty of bike for me. And who's going to fix it if there is a problem? Are parts available in the US?
Love the shirt ! Cheers from Texas.
Ditto on the shirt!
Good luck with the parts
No, no, no, no, nyet, nay, mais non, and hell no.
A China Goldwing, oh
Hell No.
My Goldwing was made in the USA.
😉👍
I just visited an Australian dealer to see the prices of their pickups. I am not sure what tariffs or whatnot might be included but they don't seem so cheap to me.
I don’t think Honda has anything to worry about! The Chinese are notorious for building things using substandard materials! Their engineering falls way short of the Japanese! I wouldn’t spend money on something that doesn’t have the reliability that Japanese products do!
I don't blame you and them calling it an S2000 is even another level of dumb.
Not posting that from an iphone, I presume? There is a lot of very high quality stuff coming out of China over the last 10+ years.
But I would not knowingly support any company that steals IP so blatantly. Not for me, even if the quality is fantastic.
@@barrytimm5497 It is a difference...An Iphone is a American company that ALREADY have the engineering, design, materials etc. to make the phone and China just mass reproduce it...
vs The whole Product engineering, design, concept, quality etc. from start to finish being Chinese...
It is a huge difference
China simply mass produce products from American companies they not the engineering and development team from Apple and other non-Chinese companies. The issue is with CHINESE COMPANY PRODUCTS
@@truthiscensored Actually, Apple only partially designs the iPhone. They provide their UI requirements, styling designs, key component selections, performance expectations, etc, etc to Foxconn and Foxconn does much of the detailed design and the majority of the iPhone range manufacturing in Zhengzhou, China. Foxconn is, of course, the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturer.
But my point is that China can and does build a lot of quality items, in addition to the junk they mass produce. It's no longer as easy as saying, "Well it's from China, so it must be junk!" There is context needed now....
Just as long as it will achieve 300,000 miles with standard servicing?
What does the warranty look like on this bike?
The world are evolving, and who can resist an engine like that?
How can it be called a Goldwing if its not from Honda ?
I go out of my way to avoid crappy Chinese tools and appliances. There is no way on earth i would buy a Chinese bike. Not ever!
Has it been approved for road use in the US? If not, they still have to go through the same testing requirements that everyone else does before they can be sold for street use here.
Interesting but where do you get support when something inevitably goes wrong?
I would be happy to test it here in New Zealand, I do about 20k km per year on two wheels, and will be looking for my next bike shortly, either another Harley Ultra, an Indian Pursuit or a Gold Wing, haven't decided yet. But I don't think I would be splashing out big money for an unknown bike with no bike brand history, or sales and parts local portal. Don't get me wrong, it ticks every box I want for my next bike, but its got a lot to prove, including reliability and construction/parts quality before I put 2000cc between my legs and twist the throttle hard. Im guessing pricing would have to be 2/3 of the Gold wing to even get me to look at one. So its a wait and see for me
Heck no! No Chicomm junk for me. I know that we import a ton of Chinese made items. Most out of our individual control. But, just like everything else engineered by others, they just copied Japanese greatness. I will continue to buy Honda quality for my riding needs and desires.
Exactly! No Chinese copied junk. Boeing airplanes are in trouble because of Chinese junk titanium.
I bought a Chinese TV.........once

Quality of all components, for wear, corrosion resistance and electronics ... + all factors such as 'lean-angles', braking, acceleration and stability etc.
bought the 1st Goldwing a blue 1975 and fell in love , have had them all owning a 14 GL1800 Valkyrie now 750 Lbs wet. I am too old to handle another 250+ Lbs and no one makes a better bike than Honda .
Who’s going to work on it, and do repairs and maintenance? Could be an issue here in the States.
I love it. I wonder if it’ll be for sale in the US
Only thing you missed was the sound of that flat 8, it could change a lot of minds 8)
I’m excited about it and I think it’s neat! But I’ve never owned (and don’t feel the need to own) a goldwing that’s less than 3 decades old and costs more than a months rent to buy.
So maybe if I’m still alive in 30 years and the s2000 makes it that long on the road… THEN I’ll consider one 😂
My issue with it is where would I have it worked on? And that ain't no backyard mechanics triumph motorcycle engine either
As a Bulgarian where GreatWall made a factory to make their Isuzu copy cars (with actual Isuzu engines) They break the stigma of "Cinese made". Also currentday Volvo is owned and built in China too so why complain so much?
I try to avoid Chinese manufacturing and products so this is a non-starter.
Only dealings I have had with great wall motors in Australia is on the back of my tow truck
Reminds me of the Yamaha star venture also
Scott you have 1500 goldwing sending units in the store
How much?
People have said good things about the CF Motos but i havent seen them in person yet so i doubt itll take off here in the States
Great Wall have been producing and selling trucks and SUVs here un my country a lot, and quality has been improved over the last years. The final product may be as good as the GW at the beggining (first 3 years), but I don´t see it getting older as good as the Honda. Do not expect it to last 30 years trouble free, but if you are looking to have for 3 to 5 years, itps definitely an option.
The weight is a big turn off for me. I love my GW but one of the biggest improvements I would love to see is some reduction of weight so I don’t worry constantly as much about dropping it 😀
Would I have to drive to Beijing for service?
The Goldwing is a well established marque, and difficult to argue with the Japanese company’s credit to date, as they’ve been building them for about 20yrs, and have a reputation to uphold. I could be tempted with this ‘version’ but I’d probably only go for it on a PPP purchase arrangement over 2 yrs. These could possibly be considered for a Pan-Am m/cycle hire business……
I'm definitely in the let someone else try it first camp, but if the ride is simular and riding position is simular, then I'm kind of interested.
I have a 84 goldwing 1200 Aspen and it's the best all around bike I've had. Would love to see another company release a similar bike. Would make great corporate competition which usually means lower prices and better bikes all around. 🤙🤙Id ride one to see what the hype is about.
Didnt the early 2000s goldwings have frame breaking problems. And honda wouldnt back em up?
Cost???
I have had a few geldings in my time. The last one I owned was a 1992 1500. I could go into my local honda dealer in spain and order parts for my 30 year old bike and get parts next day or day after. I doubt this new company will offer that. Also there were a huge amount of parts on ebay.
Iiiiiimmmm not too sure about this one. I bet it’s a nightmare to work on and troubleshoot
How about a 1000cc 650lb bike with all the touring gear that is as comfortable but gets 50MPG two up at 80MPH? 8 speeds? Something new that isn't BIGGER and HEAVIER... {!-{>
Im interested but can't judge the book by its cover. In other words, we just see a picture, and it looks amazing. But that's not riding it and hearing it run. Once i do that, i might be interested in buying one. Great wall motors have a low recall rate from what i was reading. That means they get it right the first time. But let's see how it performs.
I ride a 1991 GL1500 Goldwing and was a motorcycle mechanic for many years and I would really like to ride that monster to see if it is as cheezy as alot of Chinese stuff is .
I'd do t&e on one if they sent it to me free of charge.. But I have a feeling Honda will have Great Wall in court before the first one is ever sold.
Initial thoughts? It's close, but not as good looking as a wing.. And I'd be VERY concerned about sub par MIM parts, softer than they should be metals used in parts and fasteners, and overall build quality. Are they real Brembo brakes? Or knockoffs?
Yes I would try one if the price is right.
Is a very beautiful bike which I would love to ride. My Gl 1800 is my favorite bike out of 3 other bikes but definitely the Souod is interesting
The Goldwing is definitely not in trouble!
No, Scott, I will stay with the Goldwing, a well know quantity and intity!!!
I would be somewhat skeptic to purchase the motorcycle because of the weight and length. If they reinvent the Silverwing, then I might consider looking for a midsized motorcycle.
-- Will it be available on Temu or Shein? 😂
Will free shipping also apply? :)
I'm sure shipping would be free. Just up the price by $3995.
In 2001, Honda came out with a slimmer GL 1800 than the previous GL1500 and in 2018 Honda did it again with an even slimmer GL1800. The market seems to be leaning more towards sport touring than a huge barge. Time will tell.
According to European retulations a motorcycle is a vehicle that... and weigths no more than 400 kg (882 lbs) so good luck, great wall 2000! :P
I am loyal to Honda since high school in the 1980,s. Honda cars ,motorcycles, lawn mowers. In my opinion nothing is better . My daily bike is a Gl1100 made in 1983 and it runs perfect.
How can I buy this bike
Now that there actually is a boat anchor!
Good luck finding a mech to work on it!
I own a 1983 GL1100A. Yes it's an old bike. Yes there are newer bikes out there that handle, corners, and ride better. For me the issue is seat height. The new Gl1800's are a nice bike. All the power and then some. But if you can't modify it to your stature what good is it? I've stuck with my 83 cause frankly if you don't have a 30" inseam you can't comfortably stop or back up a newer bike. Since 2019 I've been looking at manufacturers to replace my old wing. The only one that ever came close was the Yamaha Venture transcontinental. I could use reverse. Use the kickstand. Didn't like the air cooled v twin. Then they discontinued it. I'm now looking at Indian. Cause GoldWing still has not addressed the short rider. As far as the S2000? I'll wait and see them on the showroom floor. Right now it's just a lot of talk to me.
Perhaps the competition will force a goldwing price reduction. Hope so.
Interesting! That engine is wild.
Will never be certified for US market.
I really want to hate on this, but I have to admit the idea of a 2l flat 8 is pretty freaking cool. I wouldn't buy the bike but if the motor is any good it could be a pretty awesome swap for a small car like a Miata or Triumph Spitfire or something.
I'd love to make it a gp,like the repsol gold wing with custom Nascar exhaust
Too many unanswered questions, dealers, service, parts and reliability. I would have to wait until all these issues were resolved before I would think about buying this bike.
Interesting. I’ll stick to older Wings and Harley’s and Spyders. But it is good to see competition. A little downward price pressure isn’t a bad thing. RE is less money than the big three and make fine bikes. We shall see. Good vid Scott!
