I am a 5'5 woman, and I have the 2018 DCT. I LOVE this bike. It's by far the move comfortable and easy bike for me to ride. The walk assist is pretty much a needed thing for me. The suspension on the bike is far better than the suspension in my Nissan Rogue. It's not just a man's bike anymore! This is anyone's bike!
Take this from an old geezer. I waited for this bike to hit the showroom here in Lubbock Texas back in 2018. I was only curious as to who the hell would want a DCT. Surely not me, I’ve been shifting gears all my life. Well, it showed up finally and I told the salesman I just wanted to demo it, I damn sure wasn’t going to buy it. I’ve had every Goldwing since ‘81. Well TBH, the 1100,1200,and 1800. I took that DCT out for a spin and it put a grin on this old man that almost 4 years later is still there. By far the most amazing motorcycle in my 60 years of riding. I’m going to ride this DCT to my funeral. And I’m damn sure going in sport mode. I love this bike. Lost the love of my life a few years back….. but, this has replaced her pretty well. Can’t say I want to ride anything different. I get a nut on this DCT just fine… lol….. but amazingly true. Retired last year and hitting the road this year and I’m out on the Goldwing. Not day trips either, I’m taking long 1-2 months trips with a short nap in between
I'm 36 and sat on a new 2020 Goldwing yesterday. My mind was totally blown. All I could say was wow wow and WOW over and over. I went looking for an Indian Cheiftain so this was not expected. These new Goldwings are awesome!!! Zero interest in a GW until now. Now I have to have one ! I never thought a Goldwing could take me away from big v twin cruisers after 20 years of Harley's and a Vulcan 1600
I’m In my mid 50’s and new to the motorcycle world. Had some dirt bikes when I was young many moons ago. But, I just want to say “thank you” for such informative videos. You def know your stuff. Keep up the good work!
@@Ramdas_Devadiga thanks just finished my 3rd year in college my marks are high enough that I can apply for uni now so I'm excited. However I got a sports bike now and now I want a supersport (1000cc) after uni since I never knew how fun light weight 600 bikes are!
Hey there, as a Honda motorcycle Tech I just wanted to add a few comments that might help you understand a few different sections that you talked about in this video. When you were talking about the 'maneuvering mode' where you were moving the bike forwards and backwards, you mentioned that it "switches" back and forth quickly. I wanted to add for some people (who may be concerned, such as for previous models) that reverse is not used by the starter motor anymore on the DCT ((still does on manual)). It has a reverse gear). So, what the bike does when you activate the maneuvering mode, is it actually puts the bike in 1st gear in #1 clutch, and reverse in #2 clutch. So you are in two gears at same time. When you press +, it slowly engages 1st clutch with oil pressure to glide you forward. When you press - button, it slowly engages #2 clutch to glide you backwards. So, there is no real 'switching'. It just simply engages one clutch or the other depending on your button press. I was skeptical about the DCT. I love riding, and I always said that shifting was half the fun of riding a motorcycle. But the DCT is so technologically cool and surreal to experience yourself, I have fallen in love with the system, and would not hesitate to buy one. For anyone curious, the shifting system is intelligent enough for you to do slow-speed maneuvers as good as a manual bike. I have done tight u-turns in the parking lot of my shop. It is a very easy and nimble bike to ride. I'm also a very small-framed person, weighing in at around 117lbs on average. I have a lot of riding experience, and I have done the same u-turns on Harley-Davidson Ultra Classics. It is a great bike for people of all sizes, in my opinion. A comment on the bike learning your riding. It is something I have not heard of, perhaps it is possible. I just know that the software has been fine tuned extremely well to understand when to logically decide when it is best to shift up, or shift down. Like you mention, it takes into account throttle position, change in throttle position, deceleration rate (and change in deceleration), acceleration rate (and change in acceleration), lean angle, etc. There are a variety of factors and as far as I know there is no logic for the bike to 'Learn', Honda engineers have just simply done an exceptional job at making the software for handling the shifting very intelligent. I think that some of the illusion of the bike knowing you could be in the fact that it has so many different gear ratios (given the 7th gear, it's not geared the same as other bikes), and when you add in the smoothness of the DCT, you may not even notice that it has downshifted. So when you may expect it to downshift, it may have already done so, you just don't notice the engine braking as much. If there are any other questions you have about the bike, I could try and answer them as best as I can. I don't know everything about the bike, I haven't gotten to work on many yet, no major issues that I have seen or come across yet. It's one of my favorite bikes from honda, and I'm not close to being an old guy, but I am a motorcycle enthusiast (I own a ZX-14R and a CRF250L, I just love all bikes :) )
@@wretchedrider2157 I haven't really had to do work outside of maintenance so far. Though, the number of goldwings I get compared to Pioneers and ATV's is significantly smaller. The DCT system in the Pioneers and quads are very similar, so I can tell you with experience there how the system is. The biggest factor with the DCT is that it's MUCH more important than ever that you make sure you're changing your oil a minimum of once a year if you don't reach 3,000 miles or so in one year. I would even do two. One, say, in March, and a second during the summer or september area. Just to keep that oil as fresh as possible because the DCT relies heavily on healthy oil. If you are someone who waits to change their oil after they hit the mileage number (which for some people can be after 3 years) you'll find yourself burning up the clutches, or getting a stuck clutch due to moisture. This is something you should NEVER do to begin with, but I'm simply stating that the after effects are amplified here with how vital GOOD oil is to the health of the DCT. USE MOTORCYCLE OIL. I can't state this enough. So many people use car oil and it is extremely damaging to motorcycle engines. Motorcycle oil is made to be tougher at a microscopic level, and this is primarily due to the fact that it also runs through and gets meshed in the gears of the transmission (You also have two extra gears here. a 7th gear, and a Reverse gear). Car oil breaks down very fast in a motorcycle engine and you'll soon find yourself with mechanical failures and clutch slippage. I have only had to replace one #1 clutch in a pioneer once, out of all the SXS's and quads I've worked on, and it was due to the guy abusing it and parking it in water at the seat level. The rest of the engine held up good, and the guy changed his oil frequently, however it simply wasn't frequent enough to prevent this. So if I had to give you a concrete answer on how reliable it is, it is very reliable for sure. However, you WILL be hearing many different experiences because of people who think they know the "right way" to care for their motorcycle and wind up getting into trouble. I've seen it a lot... and it happens. Change your oil often, and use motorcycle oil (Honda makes their own oil, just use it. Oil is cheap insurance on your engine.) If you have any other specific questions I could try to answer.
@@ChaseB1896 that's the best damn answer I could have hoped for. Thank you! Like every other opinion out there, can't just blindly accept what's being thrown around out there. I have a 2016 F6B, myself. Still under warranty but having some trans issues that no dealer near me can replicate, so I'm stuck dealing with Honda customer service, who isn't very helpful... Oh well. Might trade in on a new one with DCT. Thanks again!
@@wretchedrider2157 Thanks! I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your transmission... The Goldwings are some of my favorite bikes from Honda, and I always wanted to own an F6B, until they came out with the new bike and labeled it Goldwing base, I like that one now too. If you feel like mentioning what's up with your transmission, I could tell you if I have heard of anything, or give any insight to the problem. Though I can't guarantee I'll be much from this position. Long distance diagnosis is a pain in the ass unfortunately :(
@@ChaseB1896 agreed, tough to diagnose without riding it! I've got ghost shifting. Even with "preloaded" shifts. 1-2 is good, I'm getting ghosts going from 3-4, 4-5, 5-4, 4-3. Intermittent, of course, so the dealer can't replicate it. Very disappointed with Honda's response to my problems but what can you do? If they can't replicate it, the problem doesn't exist.
Last year when dropped my 500x in for the 600 mile service, my saleman tossed me the keys to a 2018 Tour DCT. It was 9am, he said have it back at 1pm when my bike was ready. Best day ever!
@@sassed12many €43.000 ($47.000) in the Netherlands. They don't even bother taking one to shows. I finally saw one in the wild last week! In a better part of Amsterdam.
I was obsessing over the choice of Manual or DCT, but your demonstration of the slow-speed parking feature and description of the DCT shifting speed, efficiency, smoothness and behavior has me sold on the Dual Clutch.
I would absolutely, positively, get the DCT model without even a consideration of the standard, manual transmission. No contest. All the power of that GoldWing at your command with a simple twist of the wrist? It will get up and off the line and blowing your hair back (if you still have any) way before you can shift through those same gears yourself! I have a Honda Silverwing scooter with a 600cc engine and i love how easy it is to drive and how quickly I get that 600cc up and moving! I can only imagine what it would be like to have that same command over the big, beautiful GoldWing! You talk about a thriller!!
Bought 2019 DCT this week and spent first 150 miles in NC mountains. The performance is stunning. Hit some wet leaves in a curve and the traction control immediately kicked in. Power stop in a curve due to tree cutting equipment and the interlocked ABS brakes stopped so straight and so fast on a downhill curve that it felt like my butt came up out of the seat. I had dealer add Pathfinder Fog and Cowl lights with rear LED filler lights and tour Heli kit and a rear lowering link. Bike fits me great.
Same with the Corvette... But I've been enjoying my 2016 Corvette for 2 years and I'm only 40. 😎 Plenty of videos of me driving it like it's meant to be driven on my channel.
Paul M Edwards I have never heard anyone refer to a corvette as a retiree’s car, but the gold wing, pretty much has always been empty nester early retiree bike for people that like to tour. It is the bike that says, you want to be a member of a bike club, but a bike club without everyone wearing “biker” clothes and that can pass a security check. It isn’t for me, but it will always have a following and probably be continue to be made as long as it is bringing in a profit. It is a great bike for motorcycle enthusiast that want to do the least amount of maintenance as possible.
I personally dislike the term “automatic” for this bike or any of the Honda DCT models for that matter because the term requires defense. I own the Honda CTX700 DCT now, a great bike and a super precursor to owning the new GW. And I love to shift, cars, bikes, anything with a clutch. But the DCT simply lets you enjoy your ride mindlessly with ALL the shifting features of a manual and then some without ever worrying about stalling, imperfect shifts, hill starts, and more. I’m someone who engine brakes like crazy. With the DCT, a microsecond thumb push downshifts into your turn while the bike up shifts as you throttle out. To all naysayers, get over your machismo and try the DCT because as Shawn imparts, you will be blown away. I do dream of the new GW... anyone have an extra $25k laying around? Happy riding all.
I love the CTX700 DCT. I've had everything from radical 60's choppers to replica super bikes-- and the CTX is one of my favorites over the years for sheer riding pleasure. It is only a 670cc so with two full size Americans on board, it's does take a bit of throttle to get her moving, but solo she is quite peppy. Not fast, just lots of low end grunt. That really favors back road blasting over highway cruising. The DCT is the wave of the future, which is why pretty much every supercar comes with 'flappy paddles' now. I never use the automatic modes, I feel they need serious remapping, but when shifting is twitching a finger or thumb, who cares about auto mode anyway? Best part about DCT is wide open throttle upshifting, which is why it's so popular in Ferrari's as well. No need to roll off to upshift, just keep it pinned and pull the trigger like Doc Holiday. The back-and-forth parking spot feature is brilliant. Really innovative thinking for such a common problem. I'm not a heavyweight touring guy, but if I were the DCT Goldwing would be on my short list of bikes to look at.
Some naysayers may like to be integrated with the experience of riding rather than having an auto blow job/ass wiper. This is tart riding. It's a giant Honda motor scooter. Nothing wrong with that. Ride in flip flops and shorts. Awesome. But riding for the "naysayers" you speak of, is to fulfill a different passion. One where the rider/Human is much more responsible for the outcome of the experience. This is the bike I'd use when I want a woman on back and I'm feeling chatty.
@@Chris-Brauch It's an automatic clutch on a manual transmission. The technology began with formula 1 race cars to provide faster shifting and lap times, while maintaining reliability that and positive shifts automatic transmissions with their torque converter, could never achieve. Welcome to the future.
It is an amazing machine! Rode it from NYC to D.C. and from Orlando back to NYC....2500 mile trip, 11 states, 15 days, and it was incredibly smooth, nimble, powerful and comfortable. Big improvement over the previous generation. Try the DCT...as he said...you will be surprised!
I have the CTX700 that the DCT came from and love it. Do not miss a clutch lever at all. It takes a short time to get used to, but the push button shifting is absolutely brilliant. I never use the automatic modes, although for a giant Goldwing touring bike I could see it being more useful. But with shifting reduced to a flick of either a finger or thumb-- there is zero downside to it being in 'manual' mode. The DCT acts like a slipper so you can't break the rear loose on hard downshifts, making it really easy to ride aggressively. Add a total inability to stall regardless of the load or incline it's on- it's just a dream for real day to day use. You can do full throttle upshifts, no having to back off the throttle to match RPM. I think it's a great system, even if the auto modes could use some remapping.
My dad bought one a few months ago. It has an airbag in it as well. I have done about 200 miles on it really enjoy it. I prefer sport bikes and Vtwins but I would deff add this bike to my collection.
All I've ever owned, both car and bike, have all been manual. And whenever I drive an automatic I really feel like something is missing. Although it's more like something is intruding. Not having the direct connection to the clutch and transmission is so weird after you've gotten used to manual. Still can't see myself ever owning an automatic.
Honda makes them for about 20 years and still they are not sold by many. EV's will be the future. In 20 years manufacturers are no longer allowed to make combustion engines. If you never have driven an EV, please do. It will surprise you.
I’m sure the Goldwing is capable of a lot of torque and horsepower. Just it’s made for comfortable long distance cruising. Make a few changes to it, tune, and you could have a monster. EDIT: This bike does have some really cool features. Reverse is a nice one.
It's not capable of a lot of horsepower. It's 90hp at the rear wheel on a bike that weighs nearly 900 pounds. It's slow, and kind of horrendous for a 1.8l 6 cylinder motor.
I owned the VFR1200X DCT for a couple years. I enjoyed it, never took it out of auto, though the gear selection wasn't always what I would have chosen. I have never owned a bike with a quick shifter, but when I consider the added weight of the DCT, and the fact that many people opt for manual mode, I wonder if a quick shifter might be more practical. Also, I wish that the side cases would each hold a full size helmet.
Great video I just bought an Africa Twin DCT a few weeks ago it's awesome I don't miss changing gears...the manual mode changing with the paddles in reality you won't use it...full auto is king
Glomestone Hi, sorry for late reply. I don’t ride now because of disability. A rare neurological disorder that stops my eyes opening and other mobility problems so that I cannot even get on a bike as pillion, this is unfortunate as my son has a Moto Guzzi V7. Take care. Regards,Bob M.

A Real man would've wiped it off on his pants leg, not said a damn thing and went on with the video....not hold his hand out like he just had a finger chopped off....whatever though.... nice bike
I LOVE DCT. Tried an Africa Twin with one couple months ago and am hooked on the system. I just wish Honda had it on more bikes than just the current 3. They need to get DCT out as an option on more of their bikes. Fantastic system.
One of the best memories of my life is scraping the pegs on a Goldwing while rounding up sport bikes and listening to Chiquitita. 2005 model in America. Can't wait to try this version.
"THE LORD"??????? A dreadful figment of the imagination - of many many scribes, recording "word of mouth" folk tales - in the Middle East. Parchment documents, edited, lost and re-written - with the "Gospels" in general disagreement with each other -as they were "written hundreds of years after the events, that did not happen. Factor in translation by semi-literate scribes: from Aramaic, to Hebrew, to GERMAN (YES!!) to English - and different versions - according to the whims of editors, publishers and Kings!!....... and we have a reliable document to "DICTATE" a 21st Century life-style???? Factor in constant changes, misinterpretations, edits, arbitrary choices - WHY only FOUR "Gospels" - many more were "available" -(bizarrely, to match nicely, with the four horsemen of the apocalypse, actually), and these events depicting slavery, misogyny, sodomy, child sacrifice (god's idea) slaughtering animals on stone altar's - god loved the smell of blood (Yes - I'm afraid, it IS written!), mass slaughters, tribes wiping out other tribes - at god's insistence, plagues of locusts, disease, famine, turning women into pillars of salt, a global flood.....and so on.....NICE! But as he was omniscient - he knew all this would happen - but decided to just let it happen anyway..........NICE! Thankfully all lies - but even as the vilest work of fiction, it depicts the basest and cruellest of human behaviour, human suffering and slaughter - apparently driven by god's love???? Yet SOME fools ALLOW this disgraceful old Middle Eastern document, to dictate the way they live their lives, in the 21st Century - thousands of miles, from where the lies originated?????????? Honoured????? How can anyone honour a record of such vile depravity?????
I have had a 700 NC DCT for about 3 yrs now and still am amazed. Haul ass and smiling all the way. And I'm an ex super bike nut. I loved those screaming 4s with some cam work and heavy valve springs. Back cut gears and all. But no more worn out left hand and sores on top of my foot after a day of carving. I'll NEVER go back. But as said, If your still doing wheelies stay classic format. But thats the only friggin reason in my book.
I have ridden automatic scooters including Burgman 650cc. Now i own Moto Guzzi Roamer 850cc manual. I am not going back to automatic! Ever! Manual forever! It keeps my brain alive!
My uncle Danny has a 1977 Wing yellow and black looks awesome and runs great. I've always loved the tricked out stereos and CB's and they look comfortable as all hell. Great engineering as always from Hondoo!
Fantastic bike. I love the DCT. FYI, you can manually shift it when in drive mode. It will automatically revert to drive after a short time of not pressing a shift button.
I like it I do … but sticking with my 2012 .. more pros the cons over the new generation for me ( however ) I freaking love that wishbone suspension.. now that’s just amazing 🤩
Getting close to 200k on my GL1800. No problems. Can't wait to get one of the new series. Rode one....wow! The DCT is a must for me. It is bullet proof. I have ridden Honda's with the DCT as far back as the 2010 vfr1200. It is fantastic!
Jason - I test rode the Auto Vfr1200..... but went for the manual version..... Auto was surprisingly good, but no good for a hoon indulging in the odd party trick.... and I just couldn't get my head around it. I'll probably end up an old dinosour rider when everything goes electric - 1 speed.... but I don't care.
I’ve driven VW diesel & GTI gas Golfs 250k +- miles over the last decade.. Every mile the DSG (in VW speak) dual clutch was in charge. 0-60 times are is as quick or quicker than stick shift. An occasional slow up-shift when cold, otherwise no problems. I toured extensively with ‘77 Yamaha xs750 triple..... so crude compared to this new Honda.
Dual clutch transmissions are awesome. Never rode a bike with one but my first DCT car was a 2007 Volkswagen GTI, and I've been hooked on dual clutch transmissions since.
I get it. However, someone said they would ride an automatic bc they love the sound of the bike when they shift using the clutch. I’m just saying I like to ride on two wheels and would rather ride and listen to music.
Great video, and the good book used is awesome man. I am a Harley rider for 30 years and had a 1500 gold wing in 1988, I'm thinking i made a mistake getting my 2019 HD ultra, i may just have to get both, I like speed and that engine sounds awesome
This is an incredible bike. Of all the machines I saw at the motorcycle show this year, this was the one that was the most interesting to me. Superbly thought out; I can see getting one of these, and the wife has approved so we shall see.
At 21 years old i went into a honda dealer to see one of these bikes and maybe test ride. It wasnt for me so i ended up getting a 2002 goldwing just a year later and i couldnt be happier. Its exactly what ive been looking for in a motorcycle. Comfortable for long travel with enough space for all the stuff i’ll need.
Wow! If you buy enough aftermarket accessories and add-ons, it's almost as comfortable as the '01 thru '17. The longevity of the new bike has yet to be proven. The '01 thru '17 have set a high bar for this new ST 1800 to match.
Ran across this video for some reason, have no idea why, I don't even ride motorcycles LOL. Your review of this motorcycle really makes me want a goldwing now....thanks a lot LOL.
Just checking out the prices in the UK . Why are we boomers to blame for millennials . My kids want my house and land , I am spending it all on fun fun fun .
You have the sweetest job ever just trying everything out there in a motorcycle ...... And f course selling them.... I don't think you could ever retire.. Live on and ride on..
The audio quality and volume is pretty good, there is no intercom system, and no wires; its all bluetooth. The built in GPS sucks and that's being kind to it, also no Android Auto support which is stupid, but Google's fault. CarPlay does work great on it, especially the iOS 13 version with the split view. The CB add on is $1000 though.
Beautiful bike, I want one. It would be nice if the “tour pack” was removable. I asked the Honda dealership, it doesn’t come off, at least not without a lot of tools.
Traxxion Dynamics in Woodstock, GA has ya covered with a conversion kit for the Goldwing and quick change option for tour. UA-cam search for Max McCallister.
@@ZacVaper Honda sells only a conversion kit to remove the tour pack and replace it with a cover. The OP is referring to a quick kit to remove it on days you don't want it, add it on days you do. If you look up the install time on the Honda kit, its 2.5 hours.
does the transmission still whine? foot space, what no running boards or foot forward support? still incredibly heavy? can't make a u turn on a 2 lane road? still the best bike for the highway , and a really awesome surround sound...
I have 05 and a 21 DTC the sport mode hang on it about puts you in the back seat. The worst part going back to the 05 you forget the clutch. It’s embarrassing when you install it. It’s a great bike.
I’m on my second GW. My first one was an 1983 1100. I’ve had a Suzuki, Harley, and still have a Yamaha V-Star 1100 Custom Special. Of all the bikes I’ve had, my 2018 GW GL1800 DCT is the best. The most comfortable and smooth ride ever. I’ve got all the bells and whistles there is available. Some ppl have complained the trunk space isn’t enough. I can fit two helmets in it just fine. Love the heated seats and hand grips. The electric windshield is nice when you have a passenger bc it helps cut down the wind on them. It’s like sailing down the highway when Cadillac made the large comfortable cars. It took me a while to stop wanting to squeeze the clutch. But, being able to do everything with the touch of a button is nice like changing driving modes from tour, speed, and rain is nice. When you put it in speed hang on bc it gets up and moves.
Of all the bikes I saw at the January 2020 bike show- this is the one I wanted the most. Incredible machine. Wife is good to go for cross country tour on it. We shall see; maybe next summer.
03:30 - "In the 80's Honda had the Hondamatic, not sure how that worked." I have a 1980 CM400A. The Hondamatic is not fully automatic. It is a clutchless 2-speed high/low manual with neutral on bottom, then one shift up to low, and a second shift up to high. No clutch, so you just roll off the throttle and shift. Upshifting is pretty forgiving. Downshifting... not so much. The new DCT seems absolutely incredible, but I only can judge by videos. It'll be a few years before I save up to buy one.
The Hondamatic was just a two speed tranny, with a torque converter instead of a clutch. You ran it in first in town and second on the road. The slippage in the torque converter, allowed the bike to start in second gear.
I’ve been looking at all kinds of touring and sport touring bikes, including baggers, and I keep coming back to this. It’s everything I wish my 2016 FJR1300 was, and more. And compared to the rest of the class it’s the best value.
I sold my 2014 FJR1300ES and bought a 2022 GW tour DCT. I loved the FJR, but the wing is a better bike. Better suspension, brakes, handling, and comfort. The GW is a little down on top end power, but you won't notice with that 100ft/lb of torque from 0 to 3500 RPM. Speaking of power - A lot of my friends thought it would be slow. Put it in sport mode at a stoplight and pin it when it turns green. The front end gets super light, and the traction control is blinks rapidly! Feels like it's going to pull your arms out of the socket!
@@Skip_Recap Sounds awesome. Now that I’ve owned and sold a DCT Honda I would buy the new updated 2022 Wing with a manual, especially since they’re likely going to be DCT only going forward. Manual has a higher top speed if what I’ve been told is correct. DCT is fantastic, but I’m always going back and forth between how great it is and how much I miss manual. Ultimately you need two bikes, one DCT.
I have spent the past 20 years as a Power Plant Outage Millwright... I turn 42 in the spring... Thinking I'm gonna sell the Night Train and CBR. Im going Goldwing. Dad deserves it! #Oldguysrule
For me, some of the pleasures of owning a motorcycle are “feeling the road “ and shifting gears. As far as the windshield going up and down, my BMW K1200LT did that. I had one of the previous generation Goldwings and my only complaint about it was whenever I tried to ride it like a sport bike, I always drug the boards even sooner than I did on a Harley. Now that I’m officially an old guy, I’d probably like this Goldwing. Unfortunately my legs don’t work like they used to so I’m off 2 wheels for good. Ride safely.
@@ronniemassart3834 what a thoughtful response. That would make a great deal of sense if I were able to lean into curves in the same way I did on 2 wheels.
I have an 84 Aspencade which I really enjoy riding. But IF I'm feeling lazy I'll take out my CTX which was I believe had DCT before the Goldwing. Either way, I love both options. Only thing I dont like about the new Goldwing is the drive by wire..

At 32 I just bought my first wing, a yellow 01 bought as trike and converted back to a bike like shown in the video and I love it. My parents both rode wings from their early 30s and just completed a 6000 mile trip from St. Louis, down to Winslow on 66 and as far up the coast as Seattle before heading back home to St. Louis. There really is no better way to see the country.

I would rather sell it than trace a short and do a valve adjustment. hopefully the timing chains on these outlive the bike.. oh wait they don't have a timing chain it's timing belts that's right Honda duped you idiots into buying a bike with a timing belt made for long distance riding. for the love of baby Jesus do not buy a bike that uses a timing belt for long distance.
strip the tour pack off - it kinda reminds of of the Pacific Coast sled from decades ago gotta take one for a spin. thanks for the review.

@@whitecrane3714 what are you talking about???
Reliability of the dct, in your experience?
Oil is cheap insurance on your engine.)
If you have any other specific questions I could try to answer.

So what you’re saying is, you love your automatic motorcycle
Some naysayers may like to be integrated with the experience of riding rather than having an auto blow job/ass wiper. This is tart riding. It's a giant Honda motor scooter. Nothing wrong with that. Ride in flip flops and shorts. Awesome. But riding for the "naysayers" you speak of, is to fulfill a different passion. One where the rider/Human is much more responsible for the outcome of the experience. This is the bike I'd use when I want a woman on back and I'm feeling chatty.
Its an automatic so calling it automatic is pretty true you donkey 🤡🤦
That's THE First Intelligent remarks that I have read about the DCT.😀
My dad bought one a few months ago. It has an airbag in it as well. I have done about 200 miles on it really enjoy it. I prefer sport bikes and Vtwins but I would deff add this bike to my collection.
Been driving vehicles with a clutch all my life, I'm 68 years old. I absolutely believe that these dual clutch transmissions are the future
Same for me as I'm 63 riding since 8. Ridden Husqvarna 430 w/ auto and 1 other. At our age it will take some time to avert muscle memory.
John Kneisly I'm also 63 been riding since I was 16 just last month traded my Z1000 in for a Honda Africa Twin DCT man it's awesome
Honda just makes amazing bikes. I bought my dad a goldwing and I own a ctx and fury

The audio quality and volume is pretty good, there is no intercom system, and no wires; its all bluetooth. The built in GPS sucks and that's being kind to it, also no Android Auto support which is stupid, but Google's fault. CarPlay does work great on it, especially the iOS 13 version with the split view. The CB add on is $1000 though.
The old versions had the reverse gear, too. But in the old versions it took so long to switch. Great improvement.
But was lighter!
Check billable hours on an air filter change before making that choice.....
HONDA SELLS A KIT, JUST FOR THIS. YOUR DEALER IS AN IDIOT.
@@ZacVaper Honda sells only a conversion kit to remove the tour pack and replace it with a cover. The OP is referring to a quick kit to remove it on days you don't want it, add it on days you do. If you look up the install time on the Honda kit, its 2.5 hours.
@@TommyCraft HONDA SELLS THE REMOVABLE TOUR PACK FOR THE GOLDWING. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX AND YOU WILL FIND IT...OR YOU'RE JUST ANOTHER IDIOT.
does the transmission still whine? foot space, what no running boards or foot forward support? still incredibly heavy? can't make a u turn on a 2 lane road? still the best bike for the highway , and a really awesome surround sound...
Shown how much is the Honda gold wing automatic tour and if automatic torrent and do you ship to the uk please let me know the price thank you
There's just absolutely nothing like that flat-six man, it's a revelation.
I prefer my six pack carbonated not flat.
Your riding audio is impeccable
Never look up with your mouth open immediately after you’ve determined there’s a bird above you!
How would possibly know such information?
This is the first bike I'm looking forward of buying
Holy smokes, that 6-cyl sounds incredible, and it's so quiet.
1:51 HA HA You Grabbed for the Clutch!
That’s the manual shifter. It’s where the clutch would attach to the bracket.
@@Patriotsoul OH OK
Viktor Slig. What cost the bike
Of all the bikes I saw at the January 2020 bike show- this is the one I wanted the most. Incredible machine. Wife is good to go for cross country tour on it. We shall see; maybe next summer.
03:30 - "In the 80's Honda had the Hondamatic, not sure how that worked."
I have a 1980 CM400A.
Somewhere around 10:30, I involuntarily said out loud; I want one. ...as a second bike. Can't let go of my BMW RT1200.
That BMW RT1200 is an awesome bike don't blame you, but try the DCT it really is awesome
The first DCT made by Honda was in 2010. Those previous ones were automatic, not dual clutch
Correct
After owning a Road Glide and riding a Concourse, I’m ready for a Gold Wing
The poor part is, it is limited to 200kph..only. 😎
I don't think I want to ride a bike that is smarter than me. Hell, my microwave oven is smarter than me.
I can see setting up a savings account for the rear tires your'e going to be needing for this awesome bike. I miss my Goldwing.
Holy crap that thing pullllls lol. Surprised me when you said it was dct...im a harley guy but love me a honda
Get a Trike
@@ronniemassart3834 what a thoughtful response. That would make a great deal of sense if I were able to lean into curves in the same way I did on 2 wheels.
Dude... I hate to tell you this, but your lady friend needs a shave.

Hey, I don't judge
I am a Harley Davidson Rider but I think the Gold Wing is a excellent cruiser. I want one.
It’s got to be a manual transmission for me .
FLHRSI rider here, as well as the Africa Twin on DCT. I want the Wing - but DCT only

I have an 84 Aspencade which I really enjoy riding.
But IF I'm feeling lazy I'll take out my CTX which was I believe had DCT before the Goldwing.
Either way, I love both options. Only thing I dont like about the new Goldwing is the drive by wire..
I was calling BS on a sub 3 0 - 60. Now, the sub 4 on here was very impressive, but as I expected, no sub 3. I definately want one

I love it! The DCT is the future! It makes riding a bike easier and safer! Just like the automatic transmission made the car easier and safer to drive the DCT makes the bike easier and safer to ride!
Does the dual-clutch really work right ? Certain cars with it had terrible quality and performance problems.
Carplay, dct, flat 6.... this bike is more technologically sophisticated than most cars
now imagine having to work on it..
@@epoxeclipse what do you want to do ?? Oil changes = easy .... most other stuff also is not that hard ..
@@1dlb have you seen the complete wiring harness for the new goldwing? it's insane. have you seen the old one? it's more insane. next what if one of the systems fails. doing valve adjustments do you know the nightmare of accessing the engine for valve adjustment on a gold wing? I would rather sell it than trace a short and do a valve adjustment. hopefully the timing chains on these outlive the bike.. oh wait they don't have a timing chain it's timing belts that's right Honda duped you idiots into buying a bike with a timing belt made for long distance riding. for the love of baby Jesus do not buy a bike that uses a timing belt for long distance.

Am I missing something? Sure looked to me like the clock started more than a second before you did on both 0-60 runs.
The poor part is, it is limited to 200kph..only. 😎
To answer the question about manual vs DCT, now in early 2021, any 2019/2020 dealer leftovers are the manual versions.
strip the tour pack off - it kinda reminds of of the Pacific Coast sled from decades ago
gotta take one for a spin. thanks for the review.
The 'Honda Matic' was essentially a hi- lo with a manual shift at 35 mph. The 400CMA was a fun starter street bike. burned through it in a season but taught me all the asphalt game quickly.
"It's connected tooo your mind!" :) Ok, want one.
Does it hook up with WiFi, Bluetooth or Midichlorians?
Ok I can get on board with the finger shift
One day that may become a literal statement.
