LaSalle, IL mesocyclone, lightning barrage, and tornado sirens (6/22/16)

- Tornado-warned supercell complete with one of the most incredible cloud-to-ground lightning displays I've witnessed in five years of chasing. All scenes are from LaSalle, IL except the very last one which was from my home in West Lafayette, IN much later that night.
Woohoo, fellow midwesterner here...I LOVE storms like this!
Me too!!
UPDATE: This still stands as the most impressive display of lightning I've seen in now over 12 years of storm-chasing in the Midwest. I very much appreciate the numerous views and positive comments continuing to roll in on this video. I hope you'll check out some of the newer vids on this channel. In recent years I have upgraded my camera and learned a couple things about making better-quality storm videos. Thanks again for the love!

That storm sure did put on a show, that was awesome!
Thanks! Yes indeed, it was.
Excellent video. Supercells here in Illinois can produce spectacular CG lightning and continuous anvil lightning. I always found it interesting how most of the CGs are displaced well away from the meso (though some CGs were visible there too near the end).
Interesting point; that's especially true if you watch any footage of the Dodge City Kansas tornadoes. Huge twisters but virtually no lightning strikes visible.
Incredible CG lightning barrage. One of the best examples I've seen on here yet. Great footage
Thanks! The best I've seen as well in nearly a decade of storm-chasing.
Awesome Awesome CG show. Well done mate and keep posting from Illinois.
Thanks a lot! As always, I am excited to chase in Illinois again this season.
1:02 got the specific frame of that lightning bolt. It looks siiiick
very great lightning show. Here in Central Europe, we could see only rarely displays of that kind. Must visit the USA again ;)
What country in Europe do you live in?
Wow...this is almost unreal...!! Best lightning storm..👍u guys are lucky...
אני אוהב את הסרטון הזה הסרטון הזה הכי טוב בעולם
The lightning looks like the same from War of The Worlds!
Damn that storm was CHARGED. I'd love to be in a storm with that much negative lightning.
It produced the most copious lightning of any storm I've seen in nine seasons of chasing in the Midwest. Still waiting for another one to equal it.
Lucky you amazing storm, and Johnny cash orange blossom special what more could you ask for
Couldn't agree more.
SPECTACULAR FOOTAGE!!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
That is a LOT of lightning!! EXCELLENT!! Question: the lowering cloud at the bottom left of the screen, is that the wall cloud?
Thanks! Those low clouds are the rotating mesocyclone. The wall cloud would probably have been embedded somewhere within that.
Yes Bianca, you are correct.
Nice video
Isn't it a over charged storm as it isn't looking that much strong but lightning strikes are very frequent
It was the most electrified storm I've observed in almost 10 years of chasing.
Uncredible!!!!!!!
wow that is a great video
Thanks; glad you enjoyed it.
STAY SAFE!! How strong was that tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale? Incredible lightning!
There were a couple of very small tornadoes; probably EF-1 at most. Thank you!
There is a face in those clouds.
Great video!
I don't see a funnel or a tornado.
You're correct. I never saw one that day. There were several mostly rain-wrapped tornadoes produced by these storms though, as you can see in this video. ua-cam.com/video/HVBq1r7ntnY/v-deo.html
Great video! Shame about the racket inside the car though!!
That's funny, in another video I replaced the original audio with a music soundtrack and someone complained that I should have left it as-is. There's no pleasing everyone I guess. Thanks for the comment though.
@@cowboystormchaser Music or no music. The video is very pleasing to watch. Sadly the only time I get to see stunning thunderstorms like these are through UA-cam as North West England isn't exactly blessed with spectacular storms.
@@MalaysiaPhilip England has lovely rainbows though. Visiting there is on my bucket list.
@@cowboystormchaser I'll propose an exchange then! I can travel to the central US to see the amazing thunderstorms and in return, you can come and see rainbows here lol! Deal?!
@@MalaysiaPhilip deal!!!
0:23 $irens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music is unnecessary
Then use the mute button. Are you one of my high school students btw?
@@cowboystormchaser Crazy lightning. What do you teach?
