- This is the scene from the Mobile Suit Gundam movie where Amuro first pilots the RX-78 Gundam. The movies were released in America long before the TV series, so you won't be hearing Brad Swaile as Amuro in this dub.

This isn't actually that unrealistic! If you can somehow break into a military base and crack open the hatch, you can turn on an Abrams tank and start driving if it's fuelled up. Usually, the assumption is that not all of those three conditions will be possible

Actually, the Rx-8-2 had no keys. Anyone can literally walk right in and they just had to hit the on button.

This first battle really shows how Amuro was both oblivious to the consequences of war. He killed one guy with the swipe of his saber, and caused two EFSF to be lost in space.

Besides, this was the purpose of Gundam; Show the horrors of warfare.

Amuro was a teenager and it was do or die. He just watched dozens of people die including Frau’s parents. Plus the Zakus were literally trying to kill him right up in his face. Amuro’s dad was rescued and they met again later.
I do not miss the days when everybody had to wisecrack at every opportunity in dubs. The sudden shift from "scared shitless" to " _you_ smile" then back to "scared shitless" is the kind of thing that'd give people whiplash.

Toonami is not a dubbing company, it's a broadcasting block. The dub for the TV series was done by Ocean Studios.

@@ZombryaTheDark It does, yeah. It came out in 1998 (to celebrate the Gundam franchise's 20th anniversary), so it even predates Gundam Wing's Toonami run, which debuted on March of 2000. Both Mobile Suit Gundam and 08th MS Team premiered on Toonami in 2001.

this voice acting for this movie trilogy is a LOT better than the television series in the US! haha i'm glad i got to experience the movies before the television show. i loved everybody's voices--especially char's--more in the movies than the show.
You're kidding, right? The dubbing for this is terrible. Amuro sounds WAY too relaxed to be in a firefight. He should sound a bit more panicked and sacred in his first battle with the Gundam. Also, the Zeon soldiers called their guns "lasers" when the reference material clearly calls them 120mm machine guns.

This Amuro seems to have a lot more confidence than the TV version, at least when he first gets into the thing. Although I have to say, aiming for the "central control system" doesn't sound quite as interesting as hitting the cockpit.

idk, brad swaile really does a good job at voicing over for amuro for the tv show. he's pretty much the best english dub's counter part of toru furuya

Well, if you're familiar with Brad Swaile as him in MSG and CCA, he was voiced by Michael Lindsay for the movies...doesn't perform as well.

This is why you use close quarters weapons before the enemy gets up... pretty sure the Zaku II could cut through the RX 78-2 with maybe one of its axes or even just start ripping at the joints to disable mobility by hand... pilots took to long to think on this...

It has Steven Blum. The voice of Tom from Toonami. Its an official dub, from an official company. The TV show wasn't Gundam 0079's first attempt in America.
