    I originally thought I had the wrong stereo harness because the connections didn't match up. Thank you so much for pointing out that the amp needed to be removed. You definitely saved me some frustration.

    thanks for the short, sweet and to the point video!! Going to replace mine in the future, tired of using a tablet and a CASSETTE adapter lol. I would have thought a cassette radio would have went out in the late 80s or early 90s. WhoDa thunk it would be in a 2002. Once again, appreciate your straightforward approach!!!

    Thanks for the video. That amp was a pain to get out but once you do, you'll see that the two plugs fit to your harness. I could not get the screws out with the screwdrivers I had at home. I even considered using a sawz-all if it would fit to cut the brackets. I ended up borrowing a long extension driver for an electric drill and they came right out. The rest was pretty easy if you know how to connect wires. Had to cap off the blue wire that was extra. I installed a pioneer.

    could you give a little run through on what exactly we have do to get the heating and air controls out, and what to exactly to do with the wires we remove from the amp box or how exactly to wire the wires from the amp to the new wiring harness?

    • @chriswaskew89
      @chriswaskew89  8 років тому +2

      +@omii_b To get the heating and air controls out you just need to remove the knobs on the dash and then get the three screws out from behind them. There are also screws in the air vents. Both steps are in the video. Once the trim is removed you just slide the controls down and out a bit. Inside below the radio there is an amp box. the wires in the bottom of the amp box go into the new radio. Hope this helps.

      @@chriswaskew89 where exactly is the amp box below the radio? I went in there this last weekend and couldn't find the amp box anywhere. Super frustrating. My wire harness doesn't fit the radio harness so I assume I need to find that amp. I have a 2005 tundra sr5 access cab. Wondering if it can be in a different spot than yours. Can't find any answers online

    • @chriswaskew89
      @chriswaskew89  3 роки тому

      Jason Johnson it is back inside the dash and hard to get to in my truck. If your wiring harness doesn’t fit you may have the incorrect harness. The amp doesn’t have to come out. On my 2002 Tundra all that needed to be done was unplug the wiring into the amp then plug that wire into the radio harness bypassing the amp entirely. I chose to remove it since it was not needed. I purchased my radio from Crutchfield.com and I was sold the proper harness and instructions for setting up harness. Beyond that I don’t have any knowledge. The install was 9 years ago and I haven’t had it back apart since. Still have truck and radio. Works great.

  • @chriswaskew89
    @chriswaskew89  11 років тому

    I don't have a step by step guide besides the video itself where I tried to make the steps as clear as possible. I will say that removing the amp was the hardest part. What made it hard was the small space I was working in and trying to get my screwdriver in the space. In theory you could just unhook the wires from the bottom of the amp and connect them to the new wiring harness so that you wouldn't have to take the amp out. Let me know if you have any more questions.

      electropentatonic I don't know. It is the only one I messed with. I didn't do anything in the rear.

      Thanks for posting the vid. I'm not sure either. I think I'm going to try to get my head unit swapped out soon. What a mess though..

    Show the removal of the amp? You say it was the hardest and unexpected yet don't show the removal?

    Does the factory unit not have an internal amp?

    • @chriswaskew89
      @chriswaskew89  9 років тому

      I'm not sure. I just know that I had to remove the part to be able to hook in the new wiring harness.

    What are the wires from the amp that need to be wired into the harness

    • @chriswaskew89
      @chriswaskew89  7 років тому +1

      Grant M connected to the bottom of the amp

    • @grantm9656
      @grantm9656 7 років тому

      chriswaskew89 well I'm sorry to bother you and might be asking dumb/simple questions. I'm just confused by which colors from amp go to which colors on harness or are they matched? Also have a white/orange wire on my metra harness for my 03 Tundra which is a dimmer wire. But I don't have a white orange one for my alpine radio harness. Just an orange one for illumination.

      Grant M as far as the wiring of your new harness I have no advise. I used clarion.com and was able to call the company with any questions.

      I used metra the kind where you don't need to do any wiring. Just clips. Didn't touch the Amp.

    why can't you leave the amp in ? I'm not to good with all this?

    • @chriswaskew89
      @chriswaskew89  8 років тому

      If you are able to disconnect the wiring harness connected to the bottom of the amp without taking the amp out then you can leave the amp in.
