ATSF Era WCH Signals! NS (BNSF) Intermodal Train - ZZ Road, Saffordville, KS

Here is something I never thought I would see… WCH signals on BNSF’s transcon. There are 2 crossings here. The double track one is BNSF’s Emporia Sub, while the single track one is on BNSF’s La Junta Sub. However, the lines converge again just a bit west of here. That means that BNSF randomly sends trains through each crossing throughout the day. As you would expect on such a busy line, this crossing works as a double crossing. Both crossings feature WCH signals that were installed by ATSF, and both crossings retain their incandescent lights.
WCH installs are pretty rare on BNSF, and are usually found on ex BN lines. The ATSF WCH installs are MUCH harder to find. It’s only a matter of time before BNSF installs new Siemens gates here.
