- Hey guys, in this video I’ll be discussing some funny and also some annoying assumptions/ stereotypes about Nigerians living in South Africa.
I hope this video educates and enlightens you all.

If we can agree that there are Nigerian who do bad things in South Africa, as much there are South African who commit crime. We don't have to deny like most people from Nigeria.
One way to solve a problem is to admit there is one
So since there are South Africans who do bad things in SA that gives foreigners a right to come here and add on our high crime or what do you really mean?

It's bad to take your dirtiness to someone else's house though . When I was younger I used to spit a lot due to that there's someone in my hood who used to that and I tend to adopt it and my mother denounced me to visit my uncle's house for that which is from the next town thanks to that I stopped that habit till today I don't spit randomly .
The thing about reputation is that it is hard to build, easy to lose and even harder to regain. We, both countries suffer from this. Nigeria has a worldwide reputation for untrustworthiness because of the actions of a few. South Africans are seen to be Xenophobic also due to the actions of a few. There's so much more to Nigeria than the stereotype; it is a complex country with people very diverse and dynamic. Black South Africans are called lazy and all sorts of names but the history of the struggle for freedom and what's been accomplished in the last 28 years which has been remarkable is seldom given a thought by our continental family in their judgement.
Your being on a platform such as this addressing these issues is helping to educate SAns and others about these matters. The longer we coexist in this country the better things will get. I've got friends from Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic.... Keep up the good work 👍

We Africans prefer to put each other down rather than uplifting one another.We choose to hate than to love. Until we change this mindset, unity can't be possible. We never ask ourselves, how come the whites never treat each other as such??

I've always been intrigued by Nigerian movies, to be honest they've earned themselves a reputation of black magic, but again they earned themselves a reputation of movies which have lessons and morals. The lesson I learnt in Nigerian movies is simple "Do not let greed or jealousy overpower you".
As long as u keep quiet when others commit crimes we always assume that is ur behavior

Thank you for the education sis. The only things I know about Nigeria is Lagos, Abuja, Yoruba,Igbo, Davido,Wizkid, Burna Boy,etc and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and all the artists in Nollywood. Our country does not teach us African history. We learn about Mandela and Europeans.

Our country's education does not teach us much about other African countries let alone their history so some of us learn on our own personal time through the internet. Another problem is that the media stimulate stereotypes about immigrants especially Nigerians(news outlets potray Nigerians as criminals that participate in crimes that you've mentioned) fueling the very same xenophobia that we see. I hope that things will better as Africans.
Look the good nigerians must stop to blame people who judge them negatively but I think they must blame the bad nigerians who are doing bad stuff in the countries that hosted them. Remember the whole world is complaining about the criminal elements of some of Nigerians is not only here in SA. The So called good behaved nigeria like to say not all Nigerians are bad and by doing that, those bad nigerians feel protect and defended and they won't stop this bad behaviors. My advice is, your focus must be on criticizing those bad ones and expose them.

Sharon, I am a South African but I would like to give you a heads up. There are really bad brothers that are here for drugs, kidnapping & human trafficking. You will find these guys in hillbrow, Randburg, rosettenville & sunny side Pretoria just to name a few places. This is a difficult one because the court of public opinion only register these incidents from the public court roll sources are : newspapers, experiences on the ground, local radio stations, etc. everyday cases of black South Africans. I had two friends from Nigeria who came to do training at SASOL, a petrochemical company in SA. Bimbo & Olire, they were petroleum engineers from Chevron. They also shared the insight, that SA has a lot of bad Nigerians some fled NIGERIA because they did bad things in their villages. It is unfortunate because some South African Police officers are corrupt and Are not capable of removing bad foreigners. The situation is so worse to point that bad South Africans & bad Nigerians are collaborating. Also, be aware South Africans love their country, hence this matter raises temperatures. But hey, it is what is…. . Stay strong, live and connect with South Africans we are hear to support you and your family.

I honestly blame their government. The more I discover about their history, the more I understand(not condone) their actions. People who work and study like slaves and get treated like slaves by their government will excel at crime in countries with weak laws. The ill disciplined lack empathy and ethics. Colonisation and corruption ravages the local people and we all pay a huge price. It's sad but you are right. All Nigerians need to work on their country for future generations.

Perspective is very important as well as experience ... SAns did not wake up one morning and decided to have an issue with Nigerians. Things used to be better between us until they were not. It took many years for Nigerians to build the kind of reputation they have in SA. The rudeness, entitlement, disrespect, arrogance, fraud of all kinds, and bullying have earned Nigerians in SA and I would argue UA-camrs as the most unbearable people to deal with in recent years. Yes, there are many good Nigerians who pay taxes and contribute to our economy but one never knows how they became doctors, engineers, etc given their history of forging documents.

A Nigerian living in Nigeria and a Nigerian living outside Nigeria are 2 completely different entities. People relate their experiences in the hands of Nigerians in their respective countries. What we see Nigerians doing in South Africa is shocking and people identify with that. Those Nigerians who display model behaviour will not be noticed or stand out because that is what is expected of any human being, therefore, those committing crime will standout. Nigerian society in Nigeria is only guilty of teaching their sons and daughter that they have to make it or strike it rich at all costs. Sadly, they don't put the limit of "all costs", it's easy for a Nigerian person in Nigeria to perceive that "at all cost" doesn't mean at the cost of another person's life or well-being. Now once a Nigerian person is away from the prying eye of their society, everything goes in their pursuit of wealth, including feeding children that are not of their society drugs, selling them to prostitution and defrauding them of their hard earned money.
The extent of respect and elevation that the Nigerian society affords to wealthy people and utter disdain towards those of lesser means is the main rot that drives Nigerians in the diaspora to break all societal rules in their pursuit of wealth. Until such time that Nigerian society learns to welcome their sons and daughters back home or to their communities even if they have not strike it rich, an average Nigerian person in the diaspora is a potential criminal. A Nigerian man returning from the city or diaspora empty handed is abhorred by their own family because he is perceived to have dishonoured the family that turns into a "laughing stock" in the community. A Nigerian man would rather die in the diaspora than going back home poor for fear of shaming himself and his family. Many Nigerian families don't know the graves of their sons because they were too poor to come home. It is clear that the cure for Nigerian criminality lies with the Nigerian society, not their host society in the diaspora.
Why do you think Nigerians concentrate largely in neighbourhoods that host our main goods ports of entry? I am talking about Nigerians who have taken over large territorries in Kempton Park, Johannesburg to be strategically closer to OR Tambo Int. Airport and why they have also taken over the Point area in Durban where the sea harbour is located? This is indicative of a well planned strategy to smuggle in illicit merchandise. Have you noticed that Nigerian shops in upmarket suburbs, stock very overpriced merchandise imported from Nigeria yet they will go without a single customer going in for an hour or 2. Now that means those shops are a front for illicit trade and their products are of brands only known by Nigerians and they are overpriced to limit movement into the shop.
I know I have just broken the code of how they operate but key individuals in our state intelligence and law enforcement agencies are either fast asleep or in cahoots with these criminals. What I am saying is not a stereotype, it is our reality.

My sister i have been following your video posts for very long time and they good, until you start your fellow countrymen. Let's put it this way, it is a fact that there is good Nigerians that live here in South Africa 🇿🇦, however, we have noted that the majority of Nigerians here in South Africa they are no good, it is worth noting that Nigerians flee their country for various reasons, but why South Africans are not fleeying their country to Nigeria. My suggestion to trade on this space of defending majority of Nigerians who are pure criminals, Nigerians are a problem worldwide. Nigerians passport in many countries require a visa, did you check that? And ask yourself why? Check South Africa passport and see how many countries can we go and no visa required? Ask yourself why? So my sister on that topic stay out of it, you create a lot of unnecessary South African enemies. Even you are in South Africa and we accepted you, so please just enjoy our beautiful country and its amenities and stop patronizing us in your defence of people who can't stay in their country and mind their own business please.

The drug dealing stereotype is not a South African one, it's worldwide. Hushpuppy has never set foot in this country, he was arrested in the UAE. The reason why we generalise is precisely because you never call out your own, instead you get angry at us. Your countryman Ayo was denied VISA to enter the UAE not so long ago. The whole world can't be wrong about you. All you need to do as Nigerians is fix yourselves.
