Congratulations to your Husband on his PH.D!!! That's an amazing feat especially from UKZN!
You’re right. Thank you
There was a time in South African history where they were denying certain demographics the opportunity to get a proper education or even have access to higher education at all.
Many parents (especially mothers/grandmothers) and guardians helped their children get through university with little income.
Some students get their own sponsored funds or loans and are the first members in their families to graduate uni.
So black South Africans in particular, make a big deal about graduating because of the above reasons. And of course, we're culturally diverse and proud of the tribes we belong to, that's why we'll show it off with our traditional clothes.
Wow.. this is wonderful!
I'm a UCT alumni but I love the energy of UKZN graduations. My graduation was also memorable and fun. Graduated the same day as Nomzamo Mbatha
Oh wow.. that’s nice
Congratulations to your hubby. Zulu people are very proud and still very rooted in their culture and traditions
In South Africa we acknowledge our culture at every turn, so it’s not a UKZN thing to be cultural but I do agree, as a UJ graduate twice , UKZN makes it fun. Just don’t confuse it with our love for our roots
lol 😒 just let UKZN enjoy its moment please.
@@tawvnmgmt7744 Hhayi yazi nje!!!!
@@tawvnmgmt7744 was just sharing information, didn’t mean anything negative about that 😂
@@tawvnmgmt7744 she's just sharing information, bathong.why r you being emotional manje
We very cultured people 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Proud UKZN Alumni!! Decolonising graduation ceremonies bit by bit! Congratulations to your Hubby!
Decolonising is a big word bro!!
@@patrickjacobs8417 it’s a start wethu, can we just accept the little change.
@@patrickjacobs8417 Rightly so. Decolonisation begins with education and unlearning.
UKZN is definitely way ahead in this regard. University of the Western Cape is less exciting but also not boring. Lots of jumping up and singing/ululating, shouting and cheers from family members...
Although, I just did a search feeling nostalgic and it was quite tame...lol.
Congrats to your hubby!
Lol.. yea, there’s this particular sound made while shouting. It’s a different type of cheering.
And thank you!
Because us Coloureds or Khoisan descendants dont want to celebrate our heritage and that is why we are a confused community.
Congratulations to our husband!🥳🥳 Doctrate in Philosophy! Wow! You must be so proud!
UKZN graduations are the best. The pride and joy you see from the families is palpable! Love it!
Yup.. thank you!
True, graduations can be boring especially if you are not a graduand😀
Congratulations to your husband, it is such a huge feat! More feathers 👍🏻
UKZN does indeed have the best grad ceremonies, congrats to your husband for his PHD, you are simply Beautiful❤❤❤
Thanks dear❤️❤️
South Africans are happy people❣🤩.... congratulations to ur hubby once again
Thanks hun
Today was Africa day, so i have Zimbabwean clients, but i noticed today all of them and their kids didn't show up, other kids were wearing traditional attire, then i remembered they once told me that they don't have traditional attire and this troubled me while other africans are celebrating others are hiding at home
Zimbabweans don't have traditional attire? 😲😲😲
@@imzulu635 I have only seen the Ndebeles of zimbabwe wearing traditional attire which is similar to the zulu attire.. Other than that, I don't know what other tribes wear there
Hello Sharon! I recently subscribed to your channel and love your videos because they remind me of my stay in South Africa. I was there for 13 years and recently completed my PhD at UKZN aswell. No Uni does Grads like UKZN. I studied there from 1st year till now and each graduation is a blast!! At UKZN we don't come to playyyy! Glad you had fun! Hope you do get to do more vlogs too! Love from Cameroon 😊😊💃🏾
Oh wow.. thank you, and congratulations Joan on your PhD!, and I hope to do more more vlogs😄❤️
Congratulations to your hubby love❤️❤️
The whole continent must follow, we must celebrate the way Afrikans best know how!
Other universities do it too, I went to UCT and we broke out in African song, that was in 2015, drums and African dance. But UKZN is the best with it.
You see that is the problem i have with UCT. The institution is on Khoisan land but does nothing to reflect that history in its ceremonies. That is why Coloured students and community feel alienated from the institution and broader SA.
@@patrickjacobs8417 UCT under Prof Phakeng has drastically changed though, I saw a video of this year's graduation. There was a whole set up of African drums and music outside in front of the hall as the guests arrive. Even in the procession to go outside they have the drums and African music on the sides. Things are different now at UCT. I don't know about other universities.
@@patrickjacobs8417 So coloureds are Khoisan now???
South Africans LOVE their culture and traditions ❤
Awww so so happy for your hubby.. Wow, their traditional attire and dressing is dope... I enjoyed and love your story... Keep winning
Congratulations to your hubby sis.❤️❤️❤️
Wow! Really beautiful the way they celebrate their graduates
Yeaaa.. thanks
Congratulations are in order to your husband and your family, on the graduation ceremony that's just shows you how South Africans embrace their culture with no shame of what other people interprete it. This translates to other things as well you've probably mentioned on your videos, diverse as we are and without looking down at anyone each embrace their cultural practice with pride Indian, African, White, Coloureds.
Beautiful!
Very nice video, from your biggest South African fan from Limpopo province
Congratulations to your Hubby!!! Very impressive 👏👏👏👏Yes UKZN grad ceremony steals the show, it gets better every year💥💥💥
Thank you!
Im South African love your content keep up the good work sister
Thanks Sharon for sharing this vlog with us. Very entertaining. Wow! These graduation ceremonies there are exciting to watch. I loved the energy.
All universities in SA do that. It has become a tradition - the praise singing, ulilatinh, dancing etc. All in celebration.
Woww, congratulations to your hubby, I love how they celebrate their graduation, it's shows how happy they were after all the stress of studying, it worth celebrating. But really waiting to see your husband ceremony/ graduation dance😀. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Hahaha, thanks, he didn’t dance o😂😂
Graduations in general in UKZN and University of Zululand take pride in being AFRICAN...That's one thing you can't take away from them..They celebrate who they are. Well done too to your next of kin for his PhD 👏👏
Congratulations to your husband that’s a great one and the ceremony looks so good I love the drama the vibes the feels the energy and above all the excitement the achievements I love it.
Wow mega congratulations to your hubby, this was really an interesting one to watch 😍
I love this video.. thank you for showing us how fun kzn graduation is ❤🎉
Yes indeed I absolutely agree with you UKZN is the mother, god mother and the Chief of all South African university ceremonies💃💃💃. If something is rooted in the Zulu Kingdom, expect to see culture preservation.
Did you know that 24th September was a Public holiday in commemoration of Shaka Zulu (King of the Zulus). To accommodate all cultures in SA, it was changed to heritage day or braai day.
Many will deny it and say otherwise but we have been to other universities, it is no where close to UKZN. And you Madam Okorie saw it and cannot be swayed. They know and we all know the truth🤣🤣🤣.
Congratulations to Mr Okorie on obtaining his PHD 🎉
Zulu uyesabeka ❤️🙌🏾

You look like Sho Madjozi! 😀😀
She does
Thank you for that information. I've been cracking my head about her resemblance. Been thinking I know someone just like her but Mzansian. The resemblance is uncanny
Hahaha, not me going on google to look at sho madjozi’s pictures all over again😂😂.. I will take that❤️
Exactly! 😅 Beautiful
Congratulations to you hubby, Do you know that you look like Sho Madjozi?
You guys need to watch the University of Zululand graduation ceremony. It's all started in UNIZULU. What is happening at UKZN is nothing compared what happens at UNIZULU. I know some of you are confusing the University of KwaZulu-Natal which is UKZN at Durban and Pietermariztburg and the University of Zululand UNIZULU which is formerly known as Ongoye in Mpangeni and Richardsbay.
The most important thing is it all started in KwaZulu-Natal. As Zulus we take so much pride in our culture. ❤️❤️
i agree with you, it all started at UNIZULU
Congratulations to your husband
You look beautiful sis
Wow!!!
I envy the graduands coz I'm not sure any uni in Nigeria does this 😭😭
This video made me really excited...the dancing & jubilation 💯
Congratulations to your Hubby!🎉🎉
Did you dance for him when his name was mentioned???🤣🤣
I didn’t o😭😭.. I wasn’t prepared 😂😂
Even here in S A it hasn't always been like this I remember when I attended my older sister"s graduation, the way I was so bored I wanted to cry. It's time for us Africans to break these barriers. This is who we are, this is how we celebrate.❤❤❤
I hope you gradually get into vlogging. I love your vibe so much.
Awww.. thank youuuu ❤️
Congratulations 🥳 to the husbae🥳🥳🥳
Thanks hun
She's Beautiful 😍 Go South Afroca Africa
I am also a proud UKZN Alumni 😍😍😍
UKZN is the best period I enjoy watching it I am UJ Alumni
Yes, Ukzn and UniZululand. 🙌🏾
Congratulations to your hubby.
Wawuuuuuuu. Congratulations to our own doctor. Dr Mitt, you have done so well.We are super proud of you.Honestly speaking,South Africans can be extra when it comes to display of excitement at graduation ceremonies. Watching their random display of happiness ,one will think that the person/people they came for their graduation,,is/are the first /only learned person/people in their community..i have witnessed it too at university of Witswatersrand (WITS) and co in Johannesburg. i was in awe of the whole show.i loved how happy and appreciative they are of their own. STOP BEING SHY NWANYI OMA.Cover all the coverable. Jisi ike oo
Hahaha.. thank you finest, you’ve said it all. Also, I’ll take your advice and cover everything next time
UKZN does the most but all other universities celebrate their culture in our graduation ceremonies. IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR PEOPLE THERE TO HYPE YOU... MMH!!!!
As an alumni of UKZN I witnessed the graduation vibes during my honours/masters graduations in Royal gardens PMB. Im currently doing my PhD in UKZN looking forward to yet another graduation vibe soon.
Oh wow, I see another Nigerian Academic, hola!!!, and Goodluck with your studies!
This is lovely. Love ur channel. Wish I would have this courage to start a UA-cam channel
Thanks dear.. you should try😁❤️
😘😘❤️❤️
graduation in sa are extra and i love that here you just graduate
Congratulations to your hubby, I can’t wait for my husband to finish his PhD!
Thank you.. best of luck to your hubby!
You ladies just made me want a hubby 😂🤗
what you saw started at UNIZULU, their graduation ceremony is double the bomb of what you are seeing in UKZN
Congratulations on your husband!!
Thank you for sharing. Its very different from here. People just clap n that's it! Lovely pictures too!
Thank you Roshani ❤️
👍👍👍
Congratulations 🍾🎉🎈 I was actually at this particular graduation ceremony for my bro who also graduated with a PhD degree….
Wow, congratulations to him too
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Congratulations to your husband 🥂
Thank youuu❤️
Lol UKZN is not the only university that has people celebrating like that though. A lot of university and college graduates do that in SA. Congratulations to your husband. Furthering your studies is a very good thing.👏
Congrats to your husband.
Congratulations to your Hubby Sharon...he is trully an academic
Thank you❤️❤️
Congratulations on to ur Husbandoo
Hahaha… I see what you did here. Thank you ‘oooo’😂
Point of correction, most all Universities, students showcase their cultural n this is d indication that our culture can't be hijacked by Western education after graduation
Nice. But Why aren’t others making the news like UKZN?
@@sharonokorie I graduated 🎓 University of Limpopo and most were also wearing thier traditional attire
@@sharonokorie Because UKZN is the biggest University plus has the best Online presence
Yup, its quite common. SA is very western but its populous hasnt lost its culture
UKZN does it better in most Varsities it's faster than ordering a meal at a drivethrough
Sister breath in between pls... Congrats to your hubby yall are beautiful 🎉🎉
Thank you, I will
A new sub here KZN is my 🏡 thank you for sharing dear.
Thank you and welcomee
This started in Rhodes university in the Eastern Cape that it spread across South Africa
Stop lying it all started in KwaZulu-Natal.
❤️❤️❤️🛎🛎🛎
Yeaaaa.. thank you❤️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Its not about the university, its about the culture of the people where the university is. UKZN is in zululand, zulu people celabrate that way. Other tribes are a bit reserved. So saying other universities should start also celebrating wont do anything, they wont because its not a signature of their culture to be that boisterous.
And also keep in mind, if every graduate makes a whole dance, how long will the graduation take? Take your degree and go celebrate outside I think, we didnt come here for a theatre perfomance.
Congrats to the Hubby
Congratulations to your husband
Thank you🙏🏻
😊✌🇺🇸🇿🇦
It's not only UKZN
Congratulations Dr. Okorie 🎊🎉🎊🎉🔥. Chai! Our husband 😂😂. Girl UKZN has the best graduations ever. We are Zulu and proud and lit 😂😂🔥🔥. Bring more pictures oo
Thanks dear.. laughing hard at “our husband“😂😂😂❤️
@@sharonokorie 😂😂
Proud Zulu girl. 🙌🏾❤️
I really want to visit South Africa 🇿🇦 bad, been in 🇳🇬 all my life 😂💔
Omo, I'm late to this one again
Better late than never😂😂❤️
Most university gratuations that have a majority black population will have alot of culture displayed.its South Africa after all
South African culture is a paradox. We live in a country that was designed by colonisers built by our ancestors. Just like all other African countries. However the difference is we still retained a great deal of our culture even within the confides of Christianity. A very interesting observation even as a local. We don't wear our traditional garb everyday but we live in two worlds everyday.
I didn’t even attend my university convocation 🤣🤣
After party Is a good idea 🤣🤣
Africans never slack see vibe 🤣🤣🤣😁😁
Congratulations To your hubby
Did I hear Rivers state?
Lol… yes
south africa god cantere
Zulus be Zuling in KZN.
I believe if they were as many NIGERIAN women as there are NIGERIAN MEN in SA.. Xenophobia would be much much less. Beautiful lady. we don't see ANY Nigerian women. it's just one way traffic.. please send for more women from your country.. we need balance. y'all Just sent us a raiding party😂😂
Very true 😂😭 It’s the nigerian men who ruin it
😂😂😂😂❤️
Agreed, they must bring their wives oooo, we love naija women equally so. 😉
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Please please please don't call it drama....our parents have sacrificed alot for us....some of those graduates have domestic workers for mothers, some sell snacks along the road...some wake up at 3 to go sell food so that their kids can go to school....we celebrate because there's alot that goes into wearing that cap and gown....!!!SO when you see family crying and dancing,it's because that child has brought hope into the family and God has removed shame and boundries of limitations!! There has to be other words you can use aside from drama and carnival like....
As for your husband,WELL DONE AND A BIG CONGRATULATIONS....!GOD HAS DONE IT!
Words mean different to different ppl but in this case Drama wasn't meant in a bad light. Just like the rest of the continent is shocked when we say shem... Lets be more tolerant & stop assuming negativity all the time
It's not only a UKZN thing.. Most SA universities do that.. I have been to a UJ, Wits and Unisa graduation ceremony.. They were people who did African praises and dances
Nigerian men date South African women but Nigerian women date Nigerian men
😫😫😭it’s unfair we also want foreigns too as men
Hahaha.. Nigerian women have wahala o😂😂, can you handle them?
@@sharonokorie 😂😅I’ll try
I’m Black South African but I find this dancing thing at graduations STUPID!
Me too as a Nigerian female I don’t like it, but it look like culture thing. So good for them but I personally don’t want this for my graduation.
