I have watched many, many videos on jewelry making on UA-cam, and to my utter delight I find The O'Neil sisters are by far the most professionally produced tutorials on the planet! Every project is well thought out, the steps expertly written and the manner in which the ladies teach is carefully an thoughtfully paced. I thoroughly enjoy learning from this team. Bravo!
Wow Diane! You made our day! Thanks so much for the kind words. Be sure to subscribe to see more of our videos. We also have a blog and a newsletter. runningwithsisters.com/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
G o r g A T h o n ! Thinking about re-stringing our Mother’s pearls from necklace to bracelet as Giftie for our lovely Niece’s birthday. Will accompany a very sweet Jacquard knit LBD which is one for the ages! So Thanks for such a super sweet tutorial! 🪄🤍💛✨💨
Before this video I was intimidated and avoided floating necklaces. After watching, you have inspired me to try it. Thanks for sharing this video and making this necklace so easy for me to follow.
I've seen these types of necklaces made before but I really like the little "cheat" measuring tool. Seems like a great concept - better than trying to measure with a ruler or just eye-balling the placement. Thanks!
I love this❣️. Just yesterday I made a pearl and pink Swarovski opal beads and loved it. There are quite a few of both beads and wasn’t sure what to do so I decided to are one of these! Hope I have enough time to make it today! Thanks so very much!
You're so welcome! We have the written instructions on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Cheers! Jennifer & Kitty
I always loved this type of necklace, but was afraid to try. After watching your very informative video, I am ready to give it a try now. Thank you for posting a well planned and well video taping of this lesson for us.
Thanks for the kind words and so glad you liked the video! You can do it! Here's the step-by-step written instructions including materials list on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
Fun idea Julu! You could do a necklace with this look by doing wirework. The construction would be similar to this project, but you would attach small lengths of chain between each pearl: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-labradorite-wirework-necklace/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty
Great question! We don't. We think the crimps kind of disappear as little as they are. It's a more sleek look. But you could use crimp covers and they would look like gold beads. That's be pretty too. Cheers, Jennifer & kitty
Happy New Year to you, too, Jane! And thanks for the sweet comment and great question! The bead size probably does not matter much since you measure the spacing from crimp to crimp. Just keep in mind that if the beads are smaller, you'll need more of them since each bead won't take up as much space on the bead-stringing wire. And if the beads are bigger, you'll need fewer of them. Make sense? You might adjust the spacing accordingly, too. Smaller beads might look a little lost with too much space between them, and large beads might look horsey if they are too close together. Just play with your design before you crimp! Hope that helps!
So beautiful!!! Great video😊. I’m knew to jewelry making. The wire you linked to is unavailable. Please advise on another wire in gold I could use. Thank you so much!!
Hi Jan, Here's a link to the wire: amzn.to/3LwJORB And here's the complete how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
Love this video, very well explained! For the materials do they have to be the exact same size you listed in the description? I only have 4mm jump rings and 20 gauge wire.
Hi Krystal, For this necklace, you'll need Bead Stringing Wire like this: amzn.to/2SB0Etd Usually wire that has a size like "20 gauge" is bendable wire that is used for wire wrapping. Here's a video we made explaining what the different kinds of jewelry wires are: ua-cam.com/video/Ob1rJgVNgcM/v-deo.html And here's a link to the complete how-to for this Pearl Illusion Necklace: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Your jump rings should work fine! Jennifer & Kitty
Great question Krystal! That sounds like this package of Bead Stringing Wire: amzn.to/2S21Cyq Yes that would work fine. The thickness of the wire is slightly different but shouldn't matter. Just make sure it fits through your beads and crimps. Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
ooo so pretty!! are the crimp beads actually sturdy and good at keeping everything in place? like would it be durable? ive never seen crimp beads before, and i normally deal with chain jewelry, so this is very new to me :)
Thanks Alicia! Yes when you crimp the crimp beads onto the wire they stay put. You can do some tests when you buy them so you get used to how to crimp them. Jennifer & Kitty
Great question! You can try to flatten the crimp beads with round-nose pliers and see if it works for you. We suggest chain-nose pliers because their flat surface perfectly flattens the crimps. Maybe do a test and see if you can manage with the round-nose pliers. Here's the complete how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Good luck! Jennifer & Kitty
The blog post: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ has links to all the materials if you want to see what they look like. Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
Could you use real pearls to make this necklace? I want to try this with a pearl bracelet I have that broke but I’ve heard they should only be strung using a real silk thread.
Great question! Pearls have very small holes drilled in them so often they only fit on thread. For this necklace design, you could try a very thin bead stringing wire like Beadalon with a .010" or .012" diameter. It looks like this: amzn.to/3DMhffi That first number "0.012 in" on the package is the diameter of the bead stringing wire. Here's a video we made about selecting Bead Stringing Wire: runningwithsisters.com/bead-stringing-wire/ For crimps, you'll want small ones like size #1. They look like this: amzn.to/3lR39my Here's the complete how-to for this necklace on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty
Thanks you for your concise and information video. This is a lovely result. Question? For a more simple spare look could I use glue instead of crimp beads? If so what kind do you suggest?
That's an interesting idea Roberta! We've never tried it but you could use GS-Hypo glue. It has a needle-fine applicator tip and works well for jewelry. It looks like this: amzn.to/3Ji57GV We suggest placing a dab on the wire where you want the bead then sliding the bead over the glue. Let us know how it works! Jennifer & Kitty
