    Nice little boat. My cousin and I fished a twelve foot boat and won nine bass tournaments. Had a lot of fun in that molded-plastic boat. Good vid.

      Dang, nine tournaments that’s pretty awesome. Yea this thing is really great for river fishing where I go it’s fairly easy to load and unload even with all of my DIY builds added to it. I was really surprised by how well these plastic Jon boats hold up. I do miss my old Sea Ark aluminum boat that Wes had you come up and get. I hope it has been serving you well. Thanks again!

    I will be 80 in 10 days, so standing in any boat under 20 to 25 feet isn't very smart. I don't want to pay 30 to 40 thousand for a boat that will require a lot of maintenance. So I bought a Sun Dolphin and will put 2 swivel seats and a motorguide xi3 kayak trolling motor. Now I can get away from shore and fish in relative comfort. My experience is a lot of expensive accessories does not necessarily catch fish. It's your brain power that helps you catch fish.

    Experience with your balance is the great divider here; a lot of shoppers straight off the Walmart floor have no idea how to handle themselves, going by reviews for this boat.

    I just finished my front and rear casting deck, they are carpeted with storage compartments, tackle, and ice chest/ live well. Now all I need is to get me an outboard and some pedestal seats. (Already have 30 lb thrust trolling motor) I also plan on rebuilding a trailer in the next few weeks that I will use for it. I was looking at buying a new fishing kayak or a used boat and this boat was way cheaper, with everything I’ve put in it so far it’s still cheaper than the other options and probably better. Once I buy an outboard it will be a little more expensive but for what you get I say it’s a great deal.

      Logan, good to hear man, it sounds like you build it turning out great. Your making me jealous lol, I wish I had a trailer and outboard motor, but maybe in the future. Your right this boat even with tons of mods comes in at a way cheaper price point than other options like fishing kayaks. Keep it Blue Collar brother!

    good video. i almost got this boat but end up grabbing a Aruba 10 kayak. the peddle and lifejacket were sold seperate, but its nice being out on the water fishing or out on adventures on the many lakes of cape breton. 40 pound boat ten ft long makes it easy to haul around.

    I have a 6HP Tohatsu on mine but haven't taken it on the water yet. I also have it on a McClain trailer and plan to test it all in a couple of weeks. I plan to store the battery up front because of the weight of the outboard. Hopefully that will even the weight out a little. I think I'll probably put pour foam in the sides. It has block styrofoam in the seats but I hope to make kind of a boat collar, but from the inside. I also have the very same trolling motor and bought them all from Academy at the same time. Oh, I also poured foam in the bottom between the sub floor and the bottom. Probably overkill but want to make this a safe boat for 2 people with no scary moments. I'm also decking the front. I'll try and shoot video when I test it out. I mostly fish in a narrow river so figured this would work good after watching your videos.

    • @bluecollaroutdoors5556
      @bluecollaroutdoors5556  3 роки тому

      Awesome to hear from you again Russell it looks like your boat is coming along just great. I like your idea of pouring foam in the flooring ribs. I may get a trailer in the future as well that’s the main reason I don’t run Maine fully decked out anymore just because it adds a lot of weight and loading it in a truck can get difficult. I bet your outboard motor takes this thing to a whole other level too an upgrade that I really want to do. Thanks again man for engaging!

    What are the pros and cons of having the trolling motor in the front of the Sun dolphin or and what are the pros and cons of having it in the back of the sun dolphin

    • @bluecollaroutdoors5556
      @bluecollaroutdoors5556  3 роки тому +5

      The biggest pro for having it in the front is I believe it is easier to control and fish at the same time. The con for the front is that the front is down in the water more causing more drag and less speed.
      Pro for having it on the back is that the front is not down in the water and the boat can mo e forward without as much drag with the water.
      And the con is that for me it is hard to operate the trolling motor and fish on the back. I mainly fish by myself so using it on the front is my go to. Hope this helps man!

    I got a a question I’ve had mine for some time and the plastic has gotten some what flimsy has your and if so how do you fix it?

    • @bluecollaroutdoors5556
      @bluecollaroutdoors5556  2 роки тому +2

      That’s a great question man, so I’ve only had mine 2 years now and I haven’t noticed this with mine. I will say that on hot days where the boat is in direct sunlight it can feel as if the plastic gets a little flimsy, I’m guessing just like any other plastic it starts to heat up and get that feeling. But other than that mine hasn’t done it to the point I have been concerned. As far as a fix I’m not sure what to tell you exactly man!

    • @sticknscalesbowfishing
      @sticknscalesbowfishing 2 роки тому +1

      @@bluecollaroutdoors5556 well I may be overlooking it but I do push that boat to the limits I bowfish off mine and use it a lot and guess it gets somewhat banged up loading and unloading out of my truck bed

    • @bluecollaroutdoors5556
      @bluecollaroutdoors5556  2 роки тому +1

      @@sticknscalesbowfishing maybe so man, I will say that the plastic on mine does have several deformities almost like the plastic didn’t get molded exactly how it was supposed to. I know one of the sides on mine bows way out more than the other side. And underneath it isn’t flat it has a huge curved surface that isn’t even. So maybe the molding process has something to do with everything.

    • @eattheinvaders.3037
      @eattheinvaders.3037 2 роки тому +1

      @ Outdoorsman Guy: Bare metal, dark colored bedliners, dark colored bed paint can contribute to heating during transport. Direct sunlight is the biggest culprit. Check the manufacturer's materials specs on the PVC. Most PVC has an upper temperature limit of 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. (approx 40 to 43 degrees celcius). The plastic becomes malleable at that temperature and that's when things get misshapen. If it cools while misshapen, then that can become a permanent warp. I don't think it can be fixed without a mould.
