I have a Sun Dolphin and I take my on the ocean. I have a 5hp 4stroke Honda outboard motor and it does fine with just me fishing on it. I wouldn't suggest it on a super windy day, but besides that this is reliable. Sun dolphin does have cleats FYI and a seat in the back. On the ridge parts for the floor I put foam black gym floors, the ones you have to connect like a puzzle and it does the job very well.

I don't know what you have in mind for adding a cleat, but if it was my boat, I'd just put a cleat along the length of a short section of broom handle and stick it down in one of the poorly designed rod holders. No holes needed for screws. (I hate the idea of putting holes in my boat hulls) Make a couple and you can move your anchor points around as needed.

I got one from Tracker Supply about a month ago. It came pre-wired from the back to the bow with 10 gauge wire for the front trolling motor. I bought a Pexmor 46lb trolling motor for the front and a Hangkai 6hp 2 stroke motor for the rear. Also bough two nice seats on Amazon. I got a 12' flatbed trailer from Tractor supply also. 😃👍

I know these are inexpensive boats, but my problem with them is the thermal formed polypropylene. they’re just disposable if you put a hole-in-one. I know they make gator batch to fix holes for boats like this, but hear me out.
Few years ago had an accident my kayak where the strap came off, got caught in the wheel of the trailer and whipped around it just ripped up in my kayak. A friends’s father taught me about plastic welding. Since my kayak was made of polyethylene, I was able to repair that kayak with almost no visible side of damage. That’s when I learned the difference. I would personally stay away from these, but I also have the option to buy something a little bit more expensive out of a material.
I’ve had to try to repair six polypropylene boats. Two we were able to fix them with gator patch, the third just had to be trashed and the rest was not worth trying. I repaired close to 100 polyethylene boats and all repaired with scrap recycle #2 plastic and a heat gun. One boat we pulled out of the woods, sanded it down with some 600 grit sandpaper then I hit the whole boat with propane torch and it looks like new.
Also, here’s a tip. If you have a vehicle with black plastic bumpers on your vehicle, when you go to sell it wash off those black plastic parts and hit it with a propane torch and you see that oxidation go away. I learned that from a friend who owns a used car dealership. That is how they’re able to make those cars look better. Doesn’t take much heat.
I enjoyed the video and can’t wait to see you pimp it out. 😉

@@mikepalmer1971 you're right. I would rather have a hard shell boat, but I can't deny the awesome capacity of an inflatable. I just finished making a plywood floor for my Intex Excursion, which is cool I guess, but just the fact that I can take the wife and two kids with me is the limiting factor that keeps me in an inflatable.

🌴 So is this boat a good deal 🤔 I’m going to say maybe ? Your going to say why maybe, 1- it’s lite weight 2- I usually fish alone , but two people could fish it . 3- flotation it’s probably? Filled with foam - unsinkable,4- it’s affordable $, 5- it would be kinda 👈🏻 durable, and this is where the maybe jumps in , if you bump a dock or hit a rock at slow speed it should be fine , remember now it’s plastic ! One of the worst things you can do is leave it exposed out in the sun , ya ya I know it’s got to be out there fishing , but when not in use cover it up UV rays degrade plastic over a long period of time , even fiberglass and gelcoat , the problem is trying to fix it 👈🏻a repair on that boat isn’t easy and usually looks like crap, the nose keel will usually get wore thru put a keel guard so if you beach it or drag it it doesn’t wear thru , I was going to buy one for around $700 but it really wasn’t what I wanted , I wanted a nano flats skiff so I’m doing a make over boat , I found a 11’ ft 1965 Cacci craft three seat fiberglass fishing boat and a trailer $ 250 bucks ! - catch is it didn’t have a title or registration, I did get a bill of sale with the last owners name address ,ph#, and boat s prior use on a lake home. I got the title and reg’s done at the DMV , I’m still working on it getting all the stuff I want on it half way there, I also found a 1989, Johnson 15 hp that needed work for $250 bucks it’s done and is getting ready for paint , by the time I’m done I’ll est. around $1200 bucks in it I chose fiberglass over the plastic just so I could customize it or repair it , and get the look I wanted , but you got a great deal on your boat , you can put a removable floor and a forward casting deck on it which is great , as they get sand and stuff on them so they can be washed off , hope to see a vid on when you get your motor on and it’s handling, and what you think after you fish it for awhile, keep the vids coming 👍🏼 tight lines.

The Sun Dolphin is just landfill material. For 600 or $700, I would buy a 1960s or 70s 14 aluminum v hull boat (make sure it doesnt leak or have any loose rivets or silicone caulking) (If you want a 16 ft, try to find a 1960s to 70s 16ft Starcraft, they have really nice deep vee hulls, be prepared to gut it and put in a new plywood floor in it). After that I would save for a 15 hp Johnson (1997 to 2006) ($1500 used) or a modern 20hp 4 stroke Yamaha ($2000 used).

Not a good idea for a dinghy. Water gets between the inner and outer hulls and weighs it down. If your using it for a couple hours at a time and pulling it out of the water when your not using it should be fine. If you add accessories or work on it be careful not to make a way for water to gain access between the hulls.
