    Thank you so much for this detailed video. I ordered my motor on Amazon and I replaced it myself! My husband was impressed. Your video was done so well. I watched it about 4 times before attempting. Watched it while replacing. Total cost was $32.00.
    Really appreciate the trouble that you went to. Thanks!

    Worked perfectly, easy install!! I now have cold air. My old blower was rusted due to leak several years ago. Bought blower on amazon for $45 auto zone wanted $150. Saved me at least couple of hundred bucks from auto shop as well. Thanks for the help.

    I have had to replace this part 2 times now. I would buy the part then ask my mechanic to install it for $180. Now my 3rd time around you have saved me money. I literally went outside and replaced this for my wife because of you explanation. Thank you and keep up the great work.

    Thanks for the video, this made replacing mine much easier. Couple things about the 2012's that were different. My motor had a torx head screw holding it in place, at about the 2 o'clock position, if the side nearest the front of the vehicle is 12 o'clock. I didn't initially see it, but removing it freed up the motor. The motor I received had a hole for that strain relief attachment. It is inserted after the motor has been installed, or it prevents the motor from twisting in the place. Finally, my panel does not have a light, so removal was one small step easier. Otherwise, mine followed your video exactly. One other note about my situation, I do not have a sun/moonroof, but the metal knob on the top side of the original motor was rusted. Swapping the motor out solved my issue of intermittent blower operation which more and more recently meant no blower operation.

      2012 Acadia as well, and I removed the old motor/fan with a giant arc-joint plier, and after snapping off the plastic tab that was secured by the small torx screw at the 2 o'clock spot, i removed the screw, and replaced after the new motor was installed. I couldn't figure out why it was so hard to move the old fan, having not read Lindsay Suber's comment above! So yeah, if it doesn't turn easily, you probably have the extra attachment point. Fortunately, it was the old part that broke, and not a part on the frame.

    Thanks for the info! Just like someone else who commented, I was able to resolve my issue without replacing the blower. I took the blower out of the console (cable still attached), confirmed that I could spin it by hand, inserted the key and turned it to the "ON" position and was surprised to see the motor spin. Re-assembled the unit and we're back in business. Definitely easier than changing a headlight! :)

    Thank you for this. My bf replaced my blower motor which was initially replaced 4 yrs ago. The only thing we didn’t foresee was the retainer clip which unabled us to easily twist and remove the busted fan. Finally figured it out after a few minutes though. Replacement part was $100, so that saved me $300. 2 shops quoted me around $400 for the replacement and labor.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Probably saved me 300.00. The sunroof vent was clogged allowing water into the cabin, flooding the blower motor. After I replaced the blower, we blew out a very clogged sunroof drain hose!

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому +1

      I'm glad it helped. I had the exact same issue you did. Until I blew out the sunroof drain, we actually had water dripping down from the sunroof on to us as we drove. Obviously, it made its way into the motor housing as well, killing the motor.

    Thanks for the easy to R&R video. I’m replacing my motor now on a Buick Enclave. The tab for the wire connection that went unused when you were connecting the harness to the new motor is used on the Enclave and must be at least partially removed to twist off the motor. Reinstalling is up to the installer. The wire will be secure either way. Thanks for your help.

    Just a note, for the Traverse, the strain relief plug is in the hole you talked about. Just work it out before trying to turn the assembly and reinstall when done. More importantly, there is an additional TORX screw to remove and reinstall on the right side of the assembly. I guess it is to prevent rattling and firm up the installation.

      Good to know. The tiny differences in models were driving me nuts when I was searching youtube for how to fix this for my Acadia. I learned how by watching 3 or 4 videos on various vehicles that were close to mine but didn't match exactly. I finally figured out the subset I needed for my Acadia. I figured I should make a video so that other people have an easier time than I did. Thanks for the tip on the Traverse.

    The little clip he cut to install the motor can be put in the little hole after the blower motor is installed, if you can move the tie down the cable. That’s the hole mine was in when I took it down. I had to pull it out to install the blower motor.

      You need to put the car on a lift, look for a DRAIN HOSE, that hose is clogged take compress air to push air into hose that will clear the hose and the excess water will drain on the ground.

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому

      I think it's unlikely to be the blower motor. If air is blowing out of other vents, then your blower motor is probably fine. I'm guessing the baffles that direct airflow are not being controlled properly.

    Is there a way to test the fan before disassembling to see if it needs to be replaced?

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому +1

      I'm assuming that you turn on your AC and no air blows out, so the blower motor is suspect, but you're not sure if it's the problem. Any diagnostics will require some disassembly, however.Here's what I'd do:
      1. Remove the cowl so you can get to the motor.
      2. Look at the bowl of the cowl (where the motor was). Are there water rings? Was there actually still water there? If so, it's almost certainly a dead motor.
      3. Unplug the motor. Using a multi-meter, check the resistance between the power/ground pins of the connector. If it reads as very close to 0 ohms, then the motor may be ok. If it has a high resistance, the motor's bad.
      4. With the AC off, (and using a multi-meter) check the voltage at the socket on the car where the motor was plugged in. It should show 0 volts. Then turn on the AC and check the voltage again. It should show 12 volts. If not, then there's a problem with the controller and no power is getting to the motor.

    • @alisonalbright1756
      @alisonalbright1756 7 років тому

      Actually, lots of air blows out, but it is hot on passenger side, and hot on both sides when car is idling. We aren't sure what is the actual problem, but we do have sun roof clog issues and water has poured inside car on multiple occasions, ruining the electrical components inside. I thought the fan might have been another casualty and was hoping an easy fix for the AC issue we are having. The AC has been hissing for about a year, but just started blowing hot air a few weeks ago.

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому

      The hot vs. cold problem is definitely not because of your blower motor. There are some controls that direct baffles that determine where the air comes from. It's possible those controls are messed up. I'm afraid you're beyond "easy fix" territory, at least as far as my skill set goes. You'll likely need to get a real mechanic to look at it. Best of luck to you!

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому +1

      So far, so good. The motor works fine and the AC is blowing strong.
      The fundamental flaw in the Acadia design is the fact that water from the sunroof can make its way into the blower motor's shield. That will kill any motor, no matter how high-quality it is. Apart from drilling a small hole in the shield for water to drip onto the passenger's feet, I'm not sure there's a permanent solution.

    • @kalmansy
      @kalmansy 7 років тому

      Craig Conway
      I doubt it's because of the sunroof. I have a chevy traverse with no sun roof and I'm facing the same issue.
      The water is coming from the AC condensation as the house that's supposed to discharge the water is clogged and the condensed water is dripping on the blower.

    • @craig.conway
      @craig.conway  7 років тому

      You could be right about that. Or it could even be that both are culprits. I know that when the drain lines are clogged on the sunroof, water drips directly into the cabin and down into the front passenger's foot area. But that does not preclude AC condensation from being a problem as well. Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check those lines as well.

      we have the same issue with the sunroof, I blame it for killing more of the electrical system and stereo besides this fan issue. I have had other cars with sunroofs, that didn't have this clogging issue, so I don't know why GMC can't redesign it. Very disappointing. Thank you for the video.
