The Demo at whole is actually not a very good representation of what people look at for the Oberheim sound. The sounds used and selected are actually not able to show of, what the OB is known for at all. Esp the Vintage modes have a pretty wrong sound for that demonstration. It is also funny that Jacks talks about "playing some PADs" now and not actually playing them to justice (very short notes for instance). That will not demonstrate a PAD well. I normally like Jacks videos, but this is just not good for this Synth. It does not demonstrate its strength and we simply cannot find out if it is up to the job or not. This very generic sounds could have been done on any analog synth (for instance even the Deepmind could do them). Also if you have a Pad sound .. play long notes please. A Pad sound has not a hart attack and is long playing chords .. not single notes, not quick chords or anything like that. So maybe you want to look at some real OB-Xa videos (check out Matt Johnson's video on it) and then please redo the demo again with proper selected sounds. The first kind of Oberheim sound is coming at 20:10 minutes.
@@higgy7762 not really. I have a Wasp and think it’s great. I just love how Oberheim have completely stolen the show with the new OB. This clone seems lame in comparison.
@@patrizio7 sorry, I appologize :) But maybe we should not use this vid as 'reference'. Until now, every clone B made was soundwise 'near perfection' - rather within 'build tolerances' of the old analog devices than a 'fail'. It seems B staffed good engineers ;) I'd wait with judgement until the Uli-XA is available in the showrooms (if ever....)
Jack is great, love what he does with Stage Pianos, Workstations and Live Performance, however Synths are not really his thing, he's said so and there should have been an experienced Synth Professional with him.. Often the problem is sending Synths for demos to Stores or Influencers is not always the best, they're not Professional Sound Designers and whether you like it or not, it's the Sounds that sell Synths. Send it to Professionals first to voice, to show the range and diversity of Sounds and capabilities...then to the Stores to demo etc.
You no doubt could have harnessed some true thunder from this unit IMO still, not taking anything away from Jack. I can just visualize you giving this a ten minute play at the least and squeezing some great juice out of this one .
Yeah, I love Jack, but he's not a major synth/physics nerd. This is another 2 osc, 2 envelope, 1 LFO synth. We want to hear what makes it exciting. How the filter reacts, how snappy the envelope goes etc
To me, this sounds nothing like an Oberheim. I have owned 5 OB’s through the years. Need to hear more of this, but first hearing is a definite miss in my book!
Can it also sound mellow and not overly driven and saturated? I can't tell from this demo. Maybe you need to lower the VCOs volume into the filter sometimes.
@@bengalinsky4300 A demo should highlight sounds. Regardless of features, a synth's sonic capabilities are of paramount importance. Hardly jumping to conclusions if a synth being demo'd sounds truly awful. Supposed "pads" and "leads" being demo'd all sound the same; tinny, thin and weak. Supposed "bass" sounds being demo'd are lifeless and lack any punch. Possibly the worst demo i've ever seen. Regardless of reasons for the poor sonic demo, either Behringer should not have allowed the synth to be demo'd or Andertons should not have released this demo as it doesn't do either of them any favours at all. Shocking.
That can't be how it actually sounds, right? I agree with other commenters that there were older demos of the work-in-progress project and it was nothing like this.
@@henrikgerlach4765 Na, I have owned quite a few Beringer synths...1 out of 10 is great.....the rest....meh. I love how the ARP clones sound that they made.
The sound from this demo does seem a bit fizzy, whether due to the unit being pre production or an issue with recording set up, or both. Been looking to get back into owning a hardware synth for sometime with an eye on the korg prologue but have held off due to ubxa, as the obx series and oberheim sound are my favourite. But not too sure now from this demo. I did see another post on yt about some engineer guy with analogue background joining the Ubxa development team. Maybe there are still issues to iron out. I really hope they can nail the oberheim sound at an affordable price.
The oberheim is known as a fuzzy synth but that’s part of its charm.. But having said that I do think the signal is hot on the recording so it’s giving it a more distorted sound hopefully they will redo it
@@ilkkarosma5528 Oberheim are known for being creamy mate not fizzy. I have 3 oberhiem synths sat in front of me in the studio, all originals I purchased decades ago, and this Behringer sounds nothing in comparison. However, one shouldn't be suprised at that. If anyone thinks that these synths can be reproduced tonaly using Behringer components and circuitry then you might as well be pissing in the wind. Never going to happen. Not bashing Behringer, they are simply doing what Behringer do, and there deepmind 12 and some of there semi modular units like neutron etc are all great and practical enough at their price pionts. But they are never going replicate the tonal colours or frequencies using there components and circuitry. Even the engineers who work on these copies have all said this. Using cheap leftover capacitors that are spares from past products do not and will not produce the tonal characters and colours for the filters and oscillators for a start. And they do that will all of there products, the B2600 is a very good example of this.
Litterally nothing else because this UB-Xa is not available, and probably won't be for several months still... But that OB-X8 is 3 times the price of this.
If you listen to this with headphones it quickly becomes apparent that the majority of this demo was done with the unit in 'stereo' mode because the individual notes played (not chords) all alternate between being panned hard left or right and IMO that's what makes the audio sound 'off.' Panning individual voices in the stereo field is an Oberheim feature - it just seems over the top in this production unit. I'm still super excited to get my hands on one of these but in the years we've been waiting I've fallen completely in love with my VST's of Sonic Projects OP-X and u-he's DIVA. I love Jack's videos for the channel - always positive and entertaining. Can't wait to run this thing through my Strymon Mobius / GFI Specular Tempus / Source Audio Collider. Cheers fellow synth lovers.
I think it's a phase issue with the channels. I've had this issue in stereo going from L & R mono into a single sum input. Basically it sounds thin and shit like this.
This demo definitely does not show what this beast actually sounds like. I’ve had mine for a few months and it is amazing. There is also a firmware update and some custom patches out there that really bring out the true sound. Super fat and gorgeous
Sounds really thin... And i agree, normally Jack can make anything shine... Looks great but sounds weak as hell... Something wrong here... The Oberheim sounds absolutely immense. This certainly does not.
OB-Xa demos: ua-cam.com/video/mIz4OA_tUyk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/tZwYuykUfyA/v-deo.html I like the original more. This sounds EQ'd, as does the synthking demo from months ago.
Agreed this sound incredibly weak. I could make better Obie sounds on an old VA. This isn’t even matrix territory much less Xa. I wonder if it’s a bad demo with bad presets, or they just missed the mark?
I heard an earlier demo from one of the beta testers and it sounded so warm and full. This demo sounds thin and crunchy, either behringer broke something in one of their revisions, or this Andertons demo has some issues in the recording chain / gain staging. 🤔
The Behringer demos had a little reverb, this is mercilessly dry. Still, everything sounds like the filter knob is cranked way up. Also it reminds me of the vibe I get from my Summit when the oscillators are running in "too perfect" mode, before you add some pitch drift for the analogue experience
it sounds like the earlier beta preview was EQ'd, or Andertons did somethimng wrong in the signal chain, leading to it sounding EQ'd to a thinner sound
@null Why is the OB-x8 crap? Just your opinion, because it’s not your taste? Personally I buy synth to play them and not as an investment object. I think the Moog One is cool, but too expensive and too ‘modern’ sounding for my taste. But everybody has different tastes. I do like my Moog Voyager, which has been reliable for 20 years now. I do know there have been issues with the Moog One, so if it will be a great long term investment remains to be seen.
From the very beginning of the video, it sounded strange to me... EVEN THE BASS?? The demos from a year and a 1/2 ago sound WAAAY better Hopefully Jack had an issue with recording it or something... What the hell happened?
You can tell he was told to say that.. lol ! This is hilarious. People thought behringer was coming to save the day lol ! The brass on this sounds like wet bumble bees drenched in chorus😂.

Having just played the OBX8 at Superbooth, I have to say this doesn't seem to have the same "tonal full-body punch" the new Oberheim has. As already pointed out, it seems a bit thin, at least in this video. But hey, for the price and the way it will look on a keyboard stand, I'm sure it will sell ok...if or whenever it gets released.

I'm waiting for other examples to hear this synth, but if it really does sound like demonstrated here, this will be a hard pass for me, as it doesn't sound like an OB (which is secondary for me) and it doesn't sound nice, as an instrument (which is primary for me). But overall, this is a terrible demo, and not much can be objectively deduced from it, so I'll wait for someone else to do a better demonstration of this highly anticipated synth to better understand what the instrument is all about.
Both way more overpriced than my $200 Arturia V-Collection which sounds awesome, has things like the Synclavier, Matrix 12, CS80, J8, Mini, Modular, Ob... and works charm with Ableton, not tommention if you pair it with Arturia's KeyLab. Not everyone has thousands and ten thousand of $$$ for hardware synths.
By authorizing this official Demo, considering also how many people have been waiting for this Synth for years, in my humble opinion Behringer has played 3/4 of the sales…. I'm sorry for anyone who has seriously worked on this project, but (again) listening to this Demo, the Synth (to me) sounds like a fart!
@@kendoshusmiller9137 this isn't an Oberheim? It's a cheap 'cut all corners' knock off, that was hoping your eyes would fool you enough to not listen too carefully.
With all due respect this is far from demonstrating what an Oberheim OB-Xa copy/clone/reproduction/whatever is expected to do. Please bring in someone that spent hours listening to Rush and Van Halen during adolescence to have a propper demonstration. The guy from Oberheim (Marcus) demonstrating the OB-X8 pointed surgically to every aspect and detail we want to hear in such kind of instrument. This demo really doesn't do justice to the power that UB-Xa certainly have.
You think playing the same old Van Halen patches is the best way to demonstrate a modern instrument in 2022? This is not relevant for the vast majority of consumers who actually want to make new music instead of playing Jump over and over in their basement
I think the UB-Xa will not be exactly a modern instrument but a reproduction of an old instrument that was amazing and left a strong mark in the music made with it at the time. It also seems to me that, although modern music can be and hopefully will be done with this keyboard, the whole point in reviving vintage monsters like Minimoog, OB-Xa, etc., at a first glance, is to serve a market that lacks the original stuff that is no longer manufactured. Roland is doing that with their digital editions of analog vintages, for instance. I really would like to hear someone demonstrating the details that made the Oberheim OB-X/Xa/8 so remarkable and typically someone who didn't listen music made with it in the 80's will not understand how to show it. There is no need to play Rush or VH or the original patches, that was just a reference.
I disagree. Sometimes it's nice to not hear the cliched riffs that everyone plays. It's like some dude picking up a guitar and banging-out Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven. It's nice to hear what an instrument can do on its own. or maybe I'm wrong, maybe everyone just play in cover bands.
There's definitely something weird going on with either the oscs or filter, I can't quite tell which. Some of those high-pass sweeps sounded really unpleasant. I'm not a hardcore Behringer hater by any stretch, but something definitely sounds off. I hope they can fix whatever's causing it before release.
@@HiLoMusic it's just a bad demo, recorded too hot, from a guy who is a great keyboard player but not a synth nerd. From this video, nobody can tell how it really sounds ;-)
Never got that wow moment at any point in the video. Not even close. Did they spice up last year's video in post? Hmm. Sadly, most of all, this seems bought. The words and interactions seem faked. Especially the comment of this being the fattest, best sounding synth in this room. Come on. There is something fishy going on if you have to fake it like that. Hoping Behringer takes these reactions to heart and give it a bit more work
Jack, a pad sound is not supposed to be played staccato. Lead sounds are not meant to be played as chords. Pads should be slow attack, evolving and with lots of modulation and sustain (edit: as well as a long release). Leads are basically the keyboard version of a guitar solo. Although it has a keyboard attached to it, this is an electronic synthesizer. Am I right?
No man... that isn't how music works.. those are just the generic ways people tend to make those sounds work . I use arps and pads sounds a lot .. some pads are a long pluck .. LIke piano with a lot of sustain
@@jetset808 : He is correct in the sense that certain patches DO sound best when played a certain way. But only the patch creator knows what they were intending.

Behringer said on their Facebook page that andertons had the room mic going and it caused phase issues that made it sound bad. So let's wait for the next video as the original demos sounded much better.
@@Leviathan-mj8gi why are you hellbent on running Behringer down when you yourself don't know if there were any technical issues? You have said on John's own video that you love to put down Behringer even though you have their synths, you don't believe in their ethics but are a hypocrite for owning their gear. You really do need to grow up.
I think it would be good to find out whether there were technical issues resulting in poorer sounding demos than previous, there are a few negative Nancies who want to run Behringer into the ground, the same hatred is fuelling others to bandwagon. Jealousy is never a good thing imo.
I've heard your demos of other synths and they usually sound great through my studio monitors. This sounds pretty thin. Would that be indicative of the actual sound quality of the synth or would you guys attribute it to the recording?
Yikes. This is the result of 4+ years? Regardless of the specs and the costume, there is so much better sounding gear available for $1500. I feel bad for Jack and, really, everyone associated with or waiting for this. It must be like a gift of socks on Christmas morning.
@@fmagic2000able you mean the one from 10 months ago from “beta testing?” Nah, I’m gonna stick to the “production Model” they sent to Andertons. They had one shot to make a great first impression. They blew it. I can’t believe they actually published this. Seriously.
@@fmagic2000able Behringer arranged this demo with their latest hardware and presets. I’ll take their word for it that this is the best they’ve got, once they “have the chips.” Hard pass.
A hard “no”. Behringer are again milking 80s vintage fantasists. If you just want to pretend you have an Oberheim, this has the paint job. For the Oberheim sound, use the Arturia plugin. If you want a hardware Oberheim, spend a little more and get a real Sequential OB6 or get the Oberheim OBX8.
Hum. Yeah. Ok. How do I say this? It sounds bad! There are 2 situations possible. Either Behringer made a piece of shit, or they recorded it wrong. The thing is, every synth they have recorded and shown was good. So I feel sorry for them to have to sit through the hate comments telling them it's their fault.
Was the majority of this demo done in "stereo" mode? When Jack showcases the various "modes" at 13:24, the stereo mode sounded a whole lot thinner than the OB-Xa and OB-8 modes. All the modes sounded thin except OB-Xa and OB-8. Listen at 16:57. That doesn't sound thin. Bet it was set at one of the OB modes. I'd like to know what mode was used for the rest of the demo.
He says “at the moment it’s in stereo mode”. Somehow I missed that the first time. Notice on the sheet with the specs for all the modes there’s no oscillator or filter drift when in stereo mode. I’d like to hear more of the UB-Xa mode.
I bet Behringer are really happy about this badly recorded demo. (Sounds like Input was way too hot or maybe some aggressive compression in the signal chain?) Unless the synth ACTUALLY sounds this bad... God I hope not. This has been on my wish list since it was first announced.
I'm not a musician and even *_I_* am sitting here thinking, "You music guys are probably wishing Behringer was around 40 years ago!". Behringer is obviously _modern updates_ on *classic synths* at a _fraction_ of the original price and a *_massive fraction_* of buying an authentic 'back in the day' 1980s analog synth! I predict that Behringer machines will sell like crazy!
This synth will become known as the "GameOverheim" and finally squeeze the nostalgia analog synth market back to realistic prices. Thank you Behringer! Still lovin' my DeepMinds.
You might want to do some research about Behringer, e.g Benn Jordan put out a good piece here on YT. And then, after all, you really might not want a ‚GameOverheim‘ anymore. On another note: I have c 10 hardware synths and drum machines in my studio setup. Guess which brand is the instrument that causes ground hum…
@@TheOneMonk Here's what I posted to Jorb's video after Benn Jordan's video: DeepMind -- "Architectural Clone" --- a lot of companies follow the popular archetype. Not trying to justify behavior, but ARP and many other companies "borrowed" circuits and might or not have been sued. The Moog ladder filter was copied with diodes or ICs instead of transistors. Same with guitars and most things ever made. Behringer does lack vision. First, they should have gone with Uberheim, but maybe Uber would sue. Not sure they will Trademark JORB. I hear about their alleged unethical behavior. They are missing the boat also. They have a capability to produce an "original" megasynth for cheap. I wish more of their stuff had preset memory. Full disclosure, I have several DeepMinds, couple Pro-800s and a Model D. Still waiting for UB-XA. If we boycott every unethical company, we probably wouldn't buy much stuff and I think we would have to grow our own food and get wind and solar as individuals.
Not a coincidence that Andersons have done their worst ever review about this Behringer instrument while Oberheim released their new one. I see what you're doing there, but you only played yourselves.
Who's working on the damage control video, if even possible? The filter sweep was pathetic. I hope that was a mistake. Such a wise move giving the Oberheim name back and not putting it on this.
Something is off in the recording of the synth. Jack’s voice track sounded clearer and more up front than the synth. Seems maybe they got the L/R leads crossed and there’s phasing that’s cancelling out the sound? I got that sense In the staccato playing. The sound did not trigger right away and the rhythm was off because of that. Did he have a patch that had a longer attack so it didn’t trigger soon enough for the staccato? Also, based on his reaction when Jack was demonstrating the filter resonance decay, it seemed he was hearing something we did not. Like he was hearing that low end umph that did not come through on the recording. Only when he got to the stereo spread did it start sounding like it should (or like we would expect), but it was still not rich enough. So, like I said, there seems to be phase cancellation in the recording. Or was it unknowingly being sent through a high pass filter? After 2 previous demos from beta testers that sounded amazing, I can’t think that this is how the sound is now. If Andertons discovers there was something wrong in the recording, they should definitely do a redo…and one without the staccato playing that does not warrant this synth. Also, give an example of the poly aftertouch, not just mention it.
@@boeiend100 fair, but there’s a difference if they’re being paid to say what Behringer tells them to say. Best synth he’s ever heard is an emphatic statement for someone who usually has credibility.

I think the sound quality was not better in the room... no one in there felt a real excitement - you see it in their faces and you hear it in the interaction of the player with the instrument.. pretty hard job for a presenter not enjoying the instrument and being convincing at the same time. Of course the expectations on this one were really high after all the buzz and mojo is the only reason to buy an analog hardware synth like this in 2022 - this one left everybody wondering where it is..
Yeah, Jack is normally full of expressions & excitement with just the slightest bass note or sweep. Here, he’s just playing it. I don’t believe it inspired him in the slightest.
Minimoog, Taurus and Sub 37 owner as well as an Oberheim Matrix 6 and OB-XA owner and I think this thing sounds great and I'm looking forward to purchasing one. I don't give a crap whatever anyone wants to say about this synth. If it ever comes out, I guarantee this thing is going to be one of the hottest synths on the market and it's got to be very hard to procure one in the 1st year of production because everyone who wants to and is knocking it, they will not admit it but they are going to be throwing their money at Behringer as fast as they can. So go ahead and knock it cork sniffers! You'll own one (without ever admitting it) as soon as it's for sale. I don't care about the name on a guitar, or synth. I care how well it plays, how good it sounds, how easy it is to program and weather it's affordable to the masses! Everyone should have the ability to own one of their favorite vintage synths without selling your house, kids and wife just to get one!
I also have a Taurus III , a Sub 37 CV , and could care less about the liebeing touted here. The OB-X8 hit the market, and Behringer hit the land of forgotten...
It’s not much different than other industry , you want something build in USA it’s a premiums cost. Analog vintage synths are popular so of course there will be mass produced versions coming out. Maybe they’ll make a cs80 for 2 grand .
@@klownaround5464 I think it’s synthesis is good as far as can be told through the UA-cam compression algorithm . I bet they didn’t do any mitigation either. Your assembly of cheesy sounding is 100% true , but my opinion is that it’s the demo not the instrument.
Tip: jump to the 13:00 mark to hear the different "vintage modes". Which to my ears sound better. Most of this demo seems to have the stereo voice mode with max panning, which is always the first thing I pull back to center when writing on an Obi. I'll work back up to the pan stages later in the song writing and mixing mode, but this "every preset at super max" vibe is annoying.
Wow thanks for the video. Now I know it was right not to wait for the UBXa for years. In the meantime I bought myself a Prophet 10 rev4 and a Hydrasynth for Poly AT instead. This synth sounds so underwhelming. Is this synth still missing some chips because of the "chip crisis" or how come?
I was so excited when I saw this but now I don't think I'll buy it. Something about this just doesn't scream value to me. Like you look at the size of this you're thinking you're getting some amazing sounds and then you start playing and yeah....
Are there trim pots on the side, or inside the unit, for panning the individual voices? I read somewhere that Behringer was including the trim pots that are on the original OBXa and OB8, but I can't see them in the video.
Something is wrong here.. U said at the end that was the most powerful synth that u hear in your studio.. For the recording it is the thinnest one u had. If the product really sound powerful this don't make it justice at all. I think another video is required
While I appreciate there is obviously going to be a huge difference in price… My comment purely on sound, and there is no comparison to the OB-X8. In fact, I don’t think any of the presets sound remotely like my OBXa either? On a positive note, I do think as a polyphonic synthesizer (on a specific budget level) the synth will definitely be popular and has some huge potential. I just wonder, if Behringer had not modelled it on a vintage classic, and just called it the “ B-52” or something of their own making, would it create so much interest and sell as well? Therefore, I would analyse more deeply what it was I would be really buying……
I'd like to hear Matt Johnson Jay Kay's Keyboard player do a review on this synth he has an original OB Xa his take on this version would be very interesting.
This sounds a lot better on my monitors now, seems fizzy though, like its distorting? Hold down some chords so we can hear it, its not a rhodes or a piano
Disagree... Almost totally different instruments. You'll not get here FXs block (I really complain about that!) but you'll get much more control over waveshapes... and surprisingly - a lot of options for envelopes (they are digital I suppose). You can't get a triangle wave out of DM12... Only for one voice (there is a trick) using the whole 12. For me that lack of wave combinations was the point which made me to make the decision: not buying a DM 12(D) until I'll see a really bargain price. So I'll be able to play with it and re-sell without regrets.
@@KiR_3d hmm, I do not think. but i understand what you are talking about. but UB-XA is also very weak on the oscillator. if you don't mind digital and untuned software, the best synth oscillator I had was definitely the Modal Cobalt
Gotta agree with the rest of the comments here, that sounds nasty. And definitely not close to what a $1500 should sound like. The low end just goes balls up when playing chords. Behringer, maybe it was a bit too soon to launch?
Sounds terrible! Thin, lacking bass, scratchy oscillators. Can it be this bad or is it a dodgy recording? As stands you'd be a fool to buy this over a polybrute
I have an OB-8 and am playing it along with this video. Granted it’s not an Xa but it’s almost the same . This sounds very different . The new OB-X8 demo sounded extremely close to the OB-8 . It screamed Oberheim. This demo sounds vaguely Oberheim ish. Very basic , not much randomness or vintage Mojo. Very sterile , and thin. Just a hint of Oberheim to it. Seems miles off . It’s no OBXa. Not even close. What happened ? Just wanted to share that. I don’t want to talk trash this. Just sharing an honest opinion. Good luck

Maybe this will shut up all the guys saying "The OB-X8 is a waste of money cause Behringer is gonna kill it with the UB-XA". Not only do I feel better now about spending the extra money to preorder a OB-X8, I don't think this sounds anything like an Oberheim. Cheap things are cheap for a reason. I understand not everyone can spend $5000 or even $1500 on an analog synthesizer; I'm not wealthy by any means, but I'll eat chicken and rice for a while if its means owning the best instrument I can buy. Priorities.

#akaitimbrewolf level demo fail. If Berhinger greenlighted this demo then this is how the synth sounds. Funny now that the OB8X is out all of a sudden a demo unit becomes available. I don't think Behringer realize how much damage they are doing to their brand with their current comms strategy. Hard no for me.
It’s not too late to take this video down and revisit it with better sound quality and performance of patches. Something isn’t right sonically, the video is hurting the brand more than it’s helping.
Sounds like a Roland JX3p went into heat and got outside and there was an OBX8 there and well... Seriously though, at 8:15 he seems to have stumbled upon it briefly.
Why the f is the guy talking about filter-stuff being sent to the envelope (it’s the other way around) and resonance decaying (it’s not. The cutoff frequency is. Because it’s being modulated.)
a matter of personal taste but to me everything sounds a bit buzzy...and for that proposed price point you could pick up a hydrasynth deluxe, which blew me away in Jack's previous demo
I hope you guys from Andertons can make another video and check if anything went wrong with the recordings. Starting at 2min it sounds super fizzy and crackling. Running too hot on the oszillators or some clipping?
I'm feeling disappointed with this video review. The UB-Xa sounds impressive from other reviews I've seen. Jack is a great player but he is not a synth guy. He seems to enjoy the sounds, but doesn't really know how to showcase the strengths of a synth. I much prefer when Andertons brings in the synth experts and Jack asks questions excitedly - much like a kid on Christmas morning. This video is hollow. Void of FX and really showing with this synth can do. Sorry Andertons, you let us down with this video in so many ways. It sounds weak.
The demo itself is hilarious: "Alright, let's play some PADS!" .... proceeds to just play staccato horn stabs. "Alright, let's play some LEADS!" .... proceeds to play chords. What is he DOING???

Maybe you need to lower the VCOs volume into the filter sometimes.
The Synth King video demo from a while ago is more mellow and 1979-1983ish

I think they’ve got Scott in (the chap you’re referring to) to work on the UB-X - the UB-Xa is “done”.
The oberheim is known as a fuzzy synth but that’s part of its charm..
But having said that I do think the signal is hot on the recording so it’s giving it a more distorted sound hopefully they will redo it
Yeah I think the fizzy character is definitely part of the whole OB sound.
This demo sounds thin and bad. My gas for the UBXa just dropped a lot.

I was all in on this thing until I heard the demo of the OBX8. There is nothing else at this point.
ua-cam.com/video/NfCjPOsqsb4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Behringer here is another demo that sounds really good.

Exactly. I had that prototype video in mind and was shocked how cheesy Jack‘s unit sounds. Something must have gone terribly wrong.
Very first reaction:
What happened??
Yeah what the hell is going on??
The Behringer demos had a little reverb, this is mercilessly dry. Still, everything sounds like the filter knob is cranked way up. Also it reminds me of the vibe I get from my Summit when the oscillators are running in "too perfect" mode, before you add some pitch drift for the analogue experience
it sounds like the earlier beta preview was EQ'd, or Andertons did somethimng wrong in the signal chain, leading to it sounding EQ'd to a thinner sound
For all the complainers,, just watch the Synth King demo and you are sold.

The guy from Oberheim (Marcus) demonstrating the OB-X8 pointed surgically to every aspect and detail we want to hear in such kind of instrument. This demo really doesn't do justice to the power that UB-Xa certainly have.

@@henryhill92 get ‘em henry
Jack, a pad sound is not supposed to be played staccato. Lead sounds are not meant to be played as chords. Pads should be slow attack, evolving and with lots of modulation and sustain (edit: as well as a long release). Leads are basically the keyboard version of a guitar solo.

@@Letsamplay I think the monitors they were using in the room were compensating for the thin and screechy raw sound. My guess is monitors that are somewhat bass heavy and positioned off-axis to his ears.
Hahaha
I listened to the 'UB-XA sounds by beta tester 'Synth King' video and for sure, it sounded fantastic. Maybe he messed up the recording?
doesn't sound like an oberheim at all.
It wasn’t really dug Into very deeply tbh
There we go again .
Always one 🤦🏽♂️

@@ChromosomeSyndicate you already knowing the ones that have a real OG really mad someone can buy what they have for a small fraction of the price.
Can’t wait for this to be released. Definitely have one
"versatile arpeggiator, comprehensive modulation option", what does that even mean ? does it have breakthrough technology too ? :D

@@fred1642 cool thanks - the preproduction units indeed sound great..
Well done
!!! You released the ultimate shitty analog synth clone of the market ... this demo is legendary
Oh, it will never be forgotten for sure.
So sad your comment.
@@ChromosomeSyndicate Yes, the truth is sad sometimes.
why the hate?
@@ChrisP3000x well I owned 5 Oberheim synthesizers and I find the Ub not a bad sounding synth.
That's right.... as you say: "if it ever comes out"!
Not impressed with the sounds at ALL THEY SOUND CHEESEY
@@klownaround5464 I think it’s synthesis is good as far as can be told through the UA-cam compression algorithm . I bet they didn’t do any mitigation either.
Your assembly of cheesy sounding is 100% true , but my opinion is that it’s the demo not the instrument.
Don’t shoot Jack. He’s just the UB-XA player.
He's not a player or a musician, he's a salesman
Don't kill the messenger.
😂😂😂
@@tomphillpotts actually he is a keyboard player! This is not his greatest moment for sure but he is a player!!!
@@mechanicom He is passionately with guitars as well.
@@oskie66skye didn’t know that. He’s definitely talented and shame he’s been bashed on here.
Can someone explain me why everyone seem so pissed about the performance?
Edit : never mind I figured out by myself
In terms of sound designing the presentation is rly awful. Those two guys at the end should be presenters and Jack should be a camera guy.
That's an awful lot of money for a thin sounding knock-off
I was so excited when I saw this but now I don't think I'll buy it. Something about this just doesn't scream value to me.
Like you look at the size of this you're thinking you're getting some amazing sounds and then you start playing and yeah....
It's probably empty inside ;)
Its the recording ... or the demomaker... not the synth? My ass !!!
Hate to say it. Demo is really bad. A supercut of this video would do well on a comedy show.
Did they decide to copy the OB-12 instead of the OB Xa mid development?
You are trying to be funny? *yawn*
OB-12 is actually a very nice VA
The Ob12 sound incredible in comparaison... this thing is just a joke
The Ob12 is a superb sounding synth, he smash this ubxa
OB-6 di Sequential lo massacra in meno di 2 secondi. Non c'è paragone.
Concordo. Io ho l'OB6 desktop, e devo dire che il filtro, da solo, vale tutti i 2500 euri... È spettacolare
are the paddles playable? Or is it really rough?
The end speech reminds me of a hostage reading out the demands of their captor.
Man you can tell he’s trying so hard to not crap on it. If you’ve watched any of his other videos, it’s pretty clear.
Therefore, I would analyse more deeply what it was I would be really buying……
ua-cam.com/video/fnHxCNLRJAg/v-deo.html
I'd like to hear Matt Johnson Jay Kay's Keyboard player do a review on this synth he has an original OB Xa his take on this version would be very interesting.
it sounds thin compared than the original
Might be on purpose..
New synth king video sounds better
This sounds a lot better on my monitors now, seems fizzy though, like its distorting? Hold down some chords so we can hear it, its not a rhodes or a piano
yeah, the section where there's 'pads' and the plays it like tis an EP...
Congratulation Jack!!!!! you are the new Akai Dan!
That's what I said!
i cant help but, compare with this UB-XA the DM12 looks soooo powerful and cheaper
This just can't be. There must be a phase issue and a gain issue. Or you've uploaded the Poly-800 demo by mistake.
My Poly 800 sounds better.
Thought you exactly same thing; “this really reminds me more like a poly 800”!
Gotta agree with the rest of the comments here, that sounds nasty. And definitely not close to what a $1500 should sound like. The low end just goes balls up when playing chords. Behringer, maybe it was a bit too soon to launch?
It does sound flat and harsh but with some effects and playing with the filter I could see this warming up quite fast.
Sounds terrible! Thin, lacking bass, scratchy oscillators. Can it be this bad or is it a dodgy recording? As stands you'd be a fool to buy this over a polybrute
You’re actually right, even from my phone the thinness and cheap sound shines through.
2:05 just sounds... Extremely weird
@@Ferrichrome absolutely, it sounds as if there’s some cross mod stuff happening, but it’s super worrying cause it most definitely isn’t haha
snoooooobs
@@volodia1140 there’s nothing snobby about using your ears. Instead of being a snob why don’t you be a sucker and buy a bad product
Good luck
Another butthurt Oberheim fanboy... 🙄
It actually sounds terrible. One of the worst sounding synths I’ve heard in ages
Yeah, not sure whether it's this recording (other demos by these guys sound fine), or the synth, but it sounds utterly dreadful here!
Damn. Damn. Agreed.
@@_mickmccarthy It isn’t just the demo, I can tell the oscillators just sound this way. To me it almost sounds as if the oscillator and filter are barely playing along, it all sounds so detached
@@HiLoMusic Yeah it's a weird one for sure. I get that they're gonna be selling this thing so want to show some enthusiasm for it, but I can't really see how anyone could be happy to show this off in this state.
I thought this was joke and i liked it hahaha
Maybe this will shut up all the guys saying "The OB-X8 is a waste of money cause Behringer is gonna kill it with the UB-XA". Not only do I feel better now about spending the extra money to preorder a OB-X8, I don't think this sounds anything like an Oberheim. Cheap things are cheap for a reason. I understand not everyone can spend $5000 or even $1500 on an analog synthesizer; I'm not wealthy by any means, but I'll eat chicken and rice for a while if its means owning the best instrument I can buy. Priorities.
Sorry. Sounds bad thin like paper. Maybe its just the demo? Probably rushed to get it out. Maybe the obx8 caused it. I suggest uli will make a different demo, i cant believe its sound that bad.
But. Talking about the oberheim costy but sound unbelievble. I want one.
Anyway theres oakso the option of the sequential ob6 that sound great
#akaitimbrewolf level demo fail. If Berhinger greenlighted this demo then this is how the synth sounds. Funny now that the OB8X is out all of a sudden a demo unit becomes available. I don't think Behringer realize how much damage they are doing to their brand with their current comms strategy. Hard no for me.
The demo by SynthKing sounds different. So, which is correct?
It’s not too late to take this video down and revisit it with better sound quality and performance of patches. Something isn’t right sonically, the video is hurting the brand more than it’s helping.
@@Leviathan-mj8gi ua-cam.com/video/fnHxCNLRJAg/v-deo.html doesn’t sound like this!
Sounds like a Roland JX3p went into heat and got outside and there was an OBX8 there and well...
Seriously though, at 8:15 he seems to have stumbled upon it briefly.
Weedy and really lacking in the bass department. Also, what is that scratchy sound (2:12 for example). It sounds a mess.
He knows it sounds crappy he prolly has to play along cause the
Company is watching him maybe??⁉️⁉️🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@klownaround5464 Uli Behringer is just off camera with his fist raised
I'm feeling disappointed with this video review. The UB-Xa sounds impressive from other reviews I've seen. Jack is a great player but he is not a synth guy. He seems to enjoy the sounds, but doesn't really know how to showcase the strengths of a synth. I much prefer when Andertons brings in the synth experts and Jack asks questions excitedly - much like a kid on Christmas morning. This video is hollow. Void of FX and really showing with this synth can do. Sorry Andertons, you let us down with this video in so many ways. It sounds weak.
Are they trying to bankrupt Behringer with this video???? After all the years of wait, this is NOT the video you want out there for this synth.
The demo itself is hilarious: "Alright, let's play some PADS!" .... proceeds to just play staccato horn stabs.
"Alright, let's play some LEADS!" .... proceeds to play chords.
What is he DOING???
