I played an OB-Xa that sat on top of my Dyno Rhodes in the 80’s .. nightclub rig. I don’t know how the action is on this thing .. but it sounds great .. just like I remember. By 1989/90 these things were regularly listed in the recycler used gear ads for $500.00, heck even my Jupiter 8 only fetched $450.00 when I got rid of it then. I’m sure there is a good number of boomer aged players who now wish they’d not sold their stuff then, to buy our old gear back used is ridiculous these things get on the market, even forking out 5k for a modern OB-X8 is a real hard swallow at 5k, I mean who wants to pay 10 times the price of what they sold it for! This thing makes sense .. if it’s got a half way decent action that is .. my DeepMind 12 has the cheesiest action I’ve ever felt in doing this for 45 years now. Ok now we need the Behringer Fairlight, PPG, and Synclavier II 😉
What a programmer! The synth sounds incredible and great work as a beta tester and these custom patches sound great. Just a quick question, do you like the keybed on it? I really enjoyed the Poly D but had issues with the uneven response of the white and black keys, especially when being used for midi, so I'm just wondering if they fixed those issues with the keybed with this one.
Thank you for your kind words. The keybed is great. Please listen to 4:29 Action Sync once again. There you can hear/see how smoothly the LFO speed can be controlled by poly aftertouch.
Super demo... ça fait plaisir d'écouter cette personnes ...ça nous change de toutes ces putes à clic et bras cassé avec un ego surdimensionné qui pullulent sur YT...j'espère que ce synthé sortira en module de bureau...encore bravo
I’m so confused im listening to this and others demos in proper headphones and all im thinking is that the new gforce plugin that was just released sounds better? I have an obx8 and that plugin and from what im hearing it just doesn’t seem to have any umph? Feels like its lacking low end. looking forward to getting my hands on one still as hoping it’s better in person? Thanks for the great video and playing as it’s always much appreciated.
Judging from your other comments, you need to check your headphones or your ears. I’ve played the OBX8 at Superbooth in Berlin and I really liked it very much. When you’re happy with it then everything is fine.
@Bernd_Bruening Are these patches going to be updated to a format compatible with the recent UB-Xa v2 firmware upgrade? In haste - and like a novice 'dork' - I initiated the upgrade but hadn't taken a recent SysEx dump of all my patches ... and subsequently lost ALL of the patches I'd curated from your pack (and others!). I'm keen to reinstall (and curate) them again but only once they're compatible, as you can probably understand.
My producer pack has been updated to version 2 as well. In case you’ve already purchased my producer pack you can download the new version plus 16 presets I made for the comparison video for free. You should have received a newsletter. Otherwise check your account at www.particular-sound.de You can reorganise your presets with the new synthtribe 2.8 app. There is a new librarian included which allows you to drag and drop your presets onto a scratch pad.
@@Bernd_Bruening Thanks for responding so promptly, Bernd - yup, I bought it and found your update 15 minutes after I posted this. My bad - I should've looked first. PS Thank you for the 'extras'. Now all we need is a decent editor librarian!
I'm guessing the first batch is going to pre-orders. Andertons show an expected shipment date. Here in the states, I'm expecting one in late Jan. or Feb.
how does the keyboard feel? Does it feel nice or close to as nice as a prophet 6's key bed? Also, do you think they'll still release the UB-X later on?
One question I have is that compared to the OB-Xa, I find the UB-Xa to sound a little bit "stiff" like the sounds have a less organic, drifting movement to them. Is there a vintage/slop control on the UB-Xa that can reintroduce some of that organic aliveness?
Hi there ! amazing work . I did download the patch but i am not super confident on how to upload it on the unit .... is there a tutorial for for dummies? regards A
Use a sysex app of your choice (midi-ox/sysex Librarian). Connect UB-Xa via usb. In your App select “UB-Xa “ as midi out. Load the producer pack sysex file into your app. Activate “send sysex” and wait until the data has been transferred to the synth. You’ll find the new sounds in bank D. Be aware that all sounds in bank D will be overwritten. My sounds are located in Bank D 1-64, presets 65-127 will be init sounds.
@@QuantizStudioRecords I don’t have a deepmind to compare but for my taste the keybed is of decent built quality. Playability, especially the polyphonic aftertouch is excellent.
Midi without problems, Audio always with some sort of artefacts. But that has nothing to do with the UB-Xa. It’s the DAW (Logic, Cubase, Ableton,Protools,, etc.)
I agree with Bernd, what are you actually asking? MIDI data can always be quantised up the Yazoo all you like, but if you're recording the audio, then you're likely to be massaging that audio as you mess with it.
@@GoldnhourMusic yep. That’s the whole point of MIDI In on a device such as this: to enable external control of the hardware from another source of MIDI data.
Would anyone be so kind as to walk me through the necessary settings/ process to load sounds to the UBXA? Attempting to use Sys EX. program sees the keyboard but I'm pretty sure I'm missing settings in the board necessary to complete the process.
@@Bernd_Bruening Thank you for the reply. Currently it seems I can send and receive files from the UBXA to my Mac but am not able to receive files from Mac to UBXA. I do have confirmation files are being sent from my Mac but I probably have a UBXA setting wrong that is not allowing files to upload/write to the board. Midi looks be set to channel 1 as you said and I thought sysex was enabled but I'd bet I'm missing the correct menu and may not have sysex enabled properly.
I think it sounds okay. I just don't like that unwanted saw buzz in the high end you don't get with an OB-X8. You can really hear the differences there.
@@dreamwalks8200 The OB-X8 combines the three different voice architectures of the OB-X, OB-Xa, and OB-8 into a single instrument. The individual filter types and other unique characteristics of each model have been faithfully reproduced, giving you the most authentic OB experience possible.
Thank you. The keybed feels nice and is for my taste much better than the Poly D. The action sync preset in this video shows quite nice, how smoothly the poly aftertouch controls the LFO speed.

Action feels pretty good to me.
Thank you so much ❤❤😊
The epitome of synthesizm
Can’t wait! Félicitations !
Thank you very much
What a programmer!
Merci beaucoup, Jean-Paul.
Otherwise check your account at
www.particular-sound.de
You can reorganise your presets with the new synthtribe 2.8 app.
I can heard almost the same sound as my Matrix 6 😊
Matrix 6 and UB-Xa are miles apart.
When can w buy this awesome Synth. 😎👍🎶💖
I really like the keyboard feel. Since I haven’t got a Prophet 6 I can’t compare. I don’t have any further information about the UB-X.
One question I have is that compared to the OB-Xa, I find the UB-Xa to sound a little bit "stiff" like the sounds have a less organic, drifting movement to them. Is there a vintage/slop control on the UB-Xa that can reintroduce some of that organic aliveness?
You can tweak the UB-Xa to your personal preference. Please check the manual and study the function of the atrophy parameters.
Hi there ! amazing work .
How is the keybed (keys) of this synth? I have Deepmind 12 but is very weak...is the same maybe? At 1000 euro today...🤔
@@QuantizStudioRecords I don’t have a deepmind to compare but for my taste the keybed is of decent built quality. Playability, especially the polyphonic aftertouch is excellent.
@@Bernd_Bruening great tot know. Thank You! Enjoy It!
Beautiful synth. One question: is it possible to quantize once it is recorded on a daw?
Verify that the synth is set to midi channel 1 and sysex is enabled.
@@1899Dan keep in mind that my sound bank is sent to Bank D (!!). Single patches are sent to the momentary selected preset.
Thank you
Sounds amazing❤ How far is the Master Tune range? Could it be tune to "A" 432hz? ✌️
Good question: normally it should be one semitone up/down, which would enable to tune it to 432hz.
thanks man!
I think it sounds okay. I just don't like that unwanted saw buzz in the high end you don't get with an OB-X8. You can really hear the differences there.
It is a copy of the OB-XA not the X8 which sound different in itself.
What buzz?
@@dreamwalks8200 The OB-X8 combines the three different voice architectures of the OB-X, OB-Xa, and OB-8 into a single instrument. The individual filter types and other unique characteristics of each model have been faithfully reproduced, giving you the most authentic OB experience possible.
@@SPAZZOID100 If you can't hear how off this sounds I can't help you. Please don't troll. You know damn well this sounds cheap compared..
Great demo, wonderful sounds! How does the keybed feel compared to other Behringer synths like the Poly D or Deepmind?
Thank you. The keybed feels nice and is for my taste much better than the Poly D. The action sync preset in this video shows quite nice, how smoothly the poly aftertouch controls the LFO speed.
@@Bernd_Bruening Thank you, Bernd, sounds very promising!
Think I stick to my old OB-XD.
where are the basses in this synth? I never hear demos of their abilities to create bass lines or bass lines.

Right in the beginning
The machine got balls no brainer to buy it
15:38 Why is the sound snapping there?
@@ajlakanen Not snapping, it’s voice stealing, because this pad has 2 voices per key and very long release.
