I just made this and omg soooooo tasty! I did have mushroom powder nor red wine but it still looks & tastes fantastic! The crispy ends are the best part. Thank you so much for this recipe, glad I had saved & frozen my starch water from making "chicken '" for street 🌮

Thanks for asking! (Sorry for the late reply) I'm not 100% sure if potato or corn starch would work, but I know that people use marinated rice papers to make vegan bacon!
You might be able to use a store-bought wheat starch that says gluten-free (the starch is the other part of flour besides gluten), depending on how sensitive you are to it. You can also look up another starch bacon recipe and see if they have tips for using another starch.
The problem I'm currently having is the starch sinks to the bottom, but it's not liquid, it turns solid and sticks to the bottom. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi james, are you using the right floor? You need high protein bread/strong flour. Maybe when you knead your letting the flour escape through your fingers which can break the dough down into pieces🧐
@@JunGotoVegan Hi Jun, yeah I was using wheat flour and I was kneading it in water. It all worked out in the end because the water was thick enough to make pancakes and turn them into vegan bacon. I guess it's as long as you get the batter right it will work 😀

Thanks for the comment. That is very fair, it takes a lot of time, and it is a lot of work. Not every vegan eats mock meat and people can just eat a whole food plant based diet if they want to save animals and do good for the planet. Some people do enjoy fake meat because they were raised in the "food culture". So vegan alternatives allow them to enjoy the tradition without contributing to the mass production and murder of those animals just for sensory pleasure. Same reason as why people like to shoot others in video games but would not shoot a real person. Vegans aren't hypocrites - they're doing much better for the nature, animals, and humanity:)
