Nice program for someone who does not have a basic knowledge of Carnatic music and how film songs are composed based on ragas. Very educational and so lucid way of educating Carnatic music
What a ridiculous take?. Ragas have been around for 300 years and will be there forever. Ilayaraja blended Carnatic music and folk music and used western orchestration to take it to the masses. Raja himself learned Carnatic music from TV Gopalakrishnan , a carnatic musician for many years. Dakshina Moorthy Swamy, MD Ramanathan, KV Mahadevan, MSV were also very adept at classical music but Ilayaraja found a perfect formula to take it to the masses with heavy folk influence and very modern orchestration.
@@krishnaramachandran7722 Thanks. I think a hundred years before the trimurtis , oothukkafu, Bhadrachala Ramadasa and Prandaradasa composed in hundred plus ragas. Intriguingly, Venkatakavi has used the name of a Tamil "Pann" for one of his compositions. That takes us to the mediaeval and pre mediaeval periods when Arunagirinathar , thevara moovar and Karaikkalammaiyar composed in "Pann". Even today , each pathigam is given a specific Pann. Though we know the notes for each of these panns , we do not have notation of the songs. This is our only handicap . All the songs Paripaadal are listed on the basis of the Pann only. Needless to say Pann = Raga. I believe except for the loss of notations of old songs, we can confidently say that our music heritage is moderately well recorded. I would like to know your remarks.

National integration song in olden days very frequently telecast in DD Channel....
Dr Narayanan really brought the essence of each classical ragas.. esp Balamurali sir’s Giridhara.. in Sindhubhairavi is so soulful.. Great job.. keep giving us lots of input in classical ragas with film compositions
