This is THE BEST video on this. My spouse was suffering from vertigo for a couple of weeks. I stumbled into BPPV (about which I had not known earlier) and then this video. She performed it last morning with my help, kept her straight head until the night, and then used three pillows to sleep in a reclining position. The vertigo was gone this morning! Magic!
    Thank you very much.

24hrs ago I was suffering vertigo. This very clear video enabled me to do the Epley manoeuvre which I previously knew nothing about. Last night I did it once which enabled me to sleep. This morning I repeated as although improved I still felt a little nauseous. I quickly felt much better and since about 4pm today I felt fully well.
Thank you so much for your clarity and generosity in providing this helpful video!!

Dr. Tolman, thank you! This video helped me and my husband gain the knowledge and confidence to try to fix my vertigo at home. We have Tricare (military) healthcare, and the system is so broken that they told me I had to wait two months to see any medical provider at our base. !! So I had to go to the ER to get any help at all. At the ER, they did something similar to what you show, but did not tell me to keep my chin tucked in when I sat up, and I became terribly dizzy every time I sat up. So your video helped us understand why the ER visit helped but didn't totally fix my vertigo. I followed your video this afternoon with my husband standing by, and I feel better this evening. I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if I should try it on the left side.

I don't think I've ever commented on a UA-cam video, but this time I have to. Last year I was suffering from bad vertigo while laying down or looking up, fortunately it only lasted for about a month and went away. This year it started again about two months ago, I had gotten so fed up with constantly being dizzy, especially with all the weird positions I have to be in while doing a house addition. Yesterday I stumbled upon your video and realized that this may be the cure. I watched your video 2-3 times and determined it was my right ear, did the maneuvers and waited a few hours before attempting to paint the ceiling. Surprise surprise! No vertigo! I laid down in bed last night, no vertigo! I jumped out of bed this morning, no vertigo! I am bookmarking your video in case this returns and will recommend it to anyone that has the same issues. Thank you so much for this simple yet effective fix ❤

Just got Diagnosed with BPPV the other day and let me tell you waking up with it was very scary, the health care system where I am at is so backlogged here that to have a doctor show me or do the Epley maneuver for me would be a 8 hour wait as there are no beds available, they gave me sheets on how to do it but after a few time it did not work and I was feeling super discouraged, this video explained so much and really helped me understand it, before watching this video I tried the maneuver and when I sat up was extremely dizzy which i know realize was the crystals falling back in. Last Night before bed I tried it again after watching the video and waited 30 seconds after each position before sitting up and had no dizziness, I slept upright and will be retesting at the 24 hr mark to see if it is gone....Thank you for this video! it is so simple to understand and hopefully it worked and I do not have to deal with this again!!! not often do peoples video truly bring value, but this one definitely did!

Hi Dr. Tate. THANK YOU for this video. If I may, I'd like to share my experience with BPPV. I am a retired nurse but had never heard of this condition until I got it myself. I am now 68, but 2 years ago I had my first episode. My alert audiologist realized what it might be and successfully treated me. But since then, it had recurred 7 times. I am active, (running, weights, and golf) so I always wonder what may bring it on, but she told me no one has confirmed that activity causes episodes. Anyway, after many trips to her office for treatment, I decided to learn to treat myself. I watched your video many times over, and this past weekend successfully treated myself. I think I may be one of those individuals who will always be at risk, so until I am physically unable to do it, I now know that I can do the Dix-Hallpike and Epley maneuvers at home. But I know I have your video for guidance each time! Again, thank you for the easy to follow video.

@@Slavic_Boer True. It's so terrifying. Just now, in February, is it just about gone. And even when it's gone, you will feel like your head is screwed on un-level. You will get little bouts of un-levelness. This is all normal according to an ear doctor i talked to.

    • @dec23
      @dec23 3 роки тому +1

@@Slavic_Boer My first experience was in bed too, in the middle of the night I turned over and bam it happened. Thankfully, BPPV usually occurs at an angle. In my limited research I never read where it happened while driving. That was a fear of mine too. I even went to a Dr about it, an ear Dr. He said it was BPPV and didn't seem concerned. 😑 Luckily I did the exercise on my own and it went away. Again, sometimes I can feel one coming on and I just be careful. Thankfully I know what it is and can do something about it if it ever comes back.

Thanks so much! About six weeks ago, I went to Massage Therapist and she tugged on my ears. After that I had vertigo. I noticed it first thing when I went to turned my head to the right during the rest of the massage. At first I thought it was an ear infection because one of my lymph nodes was swollen so I went to a doctor for that. Next, I thought that I needed chiropractic care. So I went to the chiropractor. The first adjustment was successful and the dizziness minimized. However, the second adjustment let
things loose again. My vertigo was worse, so I went back to the chiropractor, it was suggested that I try the Epley maneuver which I had tried before. After my adjustment, I came home and tried to find a more detailed explanation of how to do it. I watched your video… Did the maneuver… And it worked!

I also shared this video with another nurse who is a good friend and was also having problems with the issue. The SAD part about this is that we BOTH had the experience of doctors who gave prescriptions for the vertigo more than once without even mentioning the simple maneuver that helps so much. I was sooooo dizzy throughout the assessment and maneuvers that I almost threw up and had to wait over 30 min to ride the elevator back down in the hospital to drive home. I was very skeptical that this was the treatment for it but it HELPED. The dizziness and spinning wasn't as bad but I still have some mild dizziness and headaches so I go back next Monday. I might have to have it done again & hopefully it will help it go away. I suffered a concussion this past Jan 2022 from a fall so 3 months of this has NOT been fun at all. idk even know what vertigo was ever besides the Movie with James Stewart..lol..it's been a learning experience. 🌸 May I suggest:
    Ms. Tate:
Having your hair tied up would be helpful and a camera angle picking up both sides of your head in exercise 1. When you suggest we took her chin down, etc..
Last, please film the exercise for Vertigo on the
“Left Side” as it would have been appreciated, as reversing everything from right to left positioning, while the room is spinning is quite challenging.
Thank you for the video !

This is a brilliant video BUT please do a video for left ear vertigo! It’s just so much easier for me to follow your direct instructions when the vertigo is bad rather than having to try to reverse your instructions to suit the left ear!

I tried this at home and it made me sick as a dog. Weeks later I tried the Lempert Maneuver and it worked for me. There are several maneuvers to address the different flavors of ear issue.

Had BPPV for about 2 weeks, tried a few other exercises but didn’t work. Did this one time and bppv is gone. Thank you so much!

This worked for me although it took me a few attempts to get it right. I found that it hurt my back or neck so I worked out that I could help by bending my knees a bit and lifting my butt, sometimes supporting my butt with my hands balled into fists. This let me relax a bit more, which helped the maneuver to work. I feel so much better.

Thank you. Am going through this right now it’s awful. Nurse suspected I have sinus infection and I have a migraine as well. I will wait after the migraine passes to start this exercise. Right now I just cant trigger a dizzy spell.

This happens about once every 3 months and has been happening since grade 5. I also have frequently had ear infections as a child.

I've only had BPPV three times and the last one was after a cleaning at the dentist. I noticed I was tilted low in the chair, and I didn't think about it too much it - I was focused on relaxing (it being the dentist, after all). Well, after the chair was raised I went to stand and BPPV had me SPINNING!!! It totally caught me off guard. I wonder what are other situations that you've heard about that cause BPPV?

Thank you so much for the video. This is my 4th time with virago. Will this always be apart of my life now? 😔 It used to be my right, and now it's my left! Is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening forever? Thank you again. This is the only thing that has worked for me. The first time I literally cried ever-day and throw up several times a day.

Excellent video, thank you. i have just one query. Towards the end you discuss whether the procedure has worked. YES if feeling a little dizzy in position 3, and NO if feeling dizzy when sitting up in P 4. I experienced significant dizziness when moving FROM P3 to P4. Does this mean the procedure didn't work?

Very good demonstration. I especially liked the model of the ear canals showing the mechanics. One question though: out of curiosity, are the crystals that we reposition in the canal part of the operations within the ear or are they a type of "debris" similar to crystals formed by the body with gout or kidney stones?

With my vertigo, it feels like I'm on a boat in a storm, and I also sometimes get dizziness without the vertigo. The room isn't spinning, but upjects especially in my side vision are moving slightly. It makes it challenging to watch TV or to read.
