  • "Famous" Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck (Bob and Brad) first demonstrate how to determine which Epley Maneuver needs to be done- right versus left. They then demonstrate and easy step by step method for performing the maneuver for either right sided Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or left sided BPPV.

I am a Nephrologist, I see many of my renal patients with Benigb positional vertigo, when the clinics are not heavy I do this maneuver and like a miracle it works. Thank you so much for you both for doing such a wonderful video on this. This maneuver was thought in meds school and I had forgotten it over the years. Thanks again for these two lovely souls for helping out millions of people. 🥰

I have this every couple of months, and I always solve it by simply lying down in my bed and then suddenly flopping around like a fish. Sometimes I hold a position for longer, but mostly I just hurl myself side to side or stand up and twist side to side, bend forward and back violently! It no doubt looks alarming-(64 year old large woman) but it always works! Drink some water then get back out on my motorcycle. Thanks guys, your version looks gentler.

After numerous doctor visits to treat the dizziness and given different causes for the symptoms and also being prescribed antibiotics and steroids I still got no relief. My symptoms were dreadful. I did yoga and got real nauseous. When I got out of bed in the morning when I pushed on the mattress to get out of bed my arm felt like it was going through the floor. It’s an awful way to live with vertigo.
After it was clear no doctor could fix me or at least the ones I saw for the dizziness I researched my symptoms online and found this video. My niece performed the maneuver on me after she viewed the video and I got relief. The part during the maneuver where your head goes at the 30° and off the bed I freaked out because it brought those symptoms immediately, but after the entire procedure I got relief. I was ecstatic that those horrible symptoms were gone. Thanks so much for this video.
I now share it with others. It’s a real gem 💎

Update! 5:50pm This TOTALLY worked for me! I woke up this morning at 2:30am head spinning.
Barfed from the nausea of the spinning. I thought I was toast.
But realized if I held really still I was okay. So I searched for a cure online and
the Doctors video was interesting but no maneuvers there. Then these two adorable Physical Therapists (look up there!) showed exactly how to do this!
So I did it and barfed like crazy. But it's important to keep your head up! So I assumed that some good had come from the first attempt and used a borrowed airplane neck pillow tied around my neck (I looked goofy) and waited until later in the day to repeat it and BOOM!
NO SPINNING! It was like a miracle!
So in one day I thought my life was over and then had a reprieve without spending a dime!
    Thanks nice people on UA-cam!

Your video is very helpful. Besides demonstrating the maneuver well, you had two other helpful tips that I didn't see in any other material I looked at: 1) don't tip your head forward for the rest of the day, and 2) sleep with your head propped up slightly. I had the Epley done by a physical therapist last spring but he didn't say anything to me about not looking down or about having a neck brace. He just sent me home. It basically took two visits and then he said if you feel more comfortable coming back for the third go ahead so I did. I wasn't 100% after the Epley but I certainly got there within maybe a week or less.
My physical therapist was surprisingly forceful with me, even violent, which hurt my neck. He didn't just have me lay back, he took my head and slammed it into the table. He also didn't have me play my head over the edge of the table.

I did this yesterday after I felt the symptom of vertigo on my right side (eyes going all crazy when I laid down facing right (tried left side but eyes was normal) and felt like gravity was pulling me around as soon as I sat up in the morning). I've done it in the morning and throughout the day was 'floating' around not sure if it had done the trick. Although straight after I did it once I tried laying back down fast (facing right) and my eyes stopped spinning. Rebecca Swilling I did some research on vertigo and said that the pills doctors prescribed actually create dizziness and nausea, what? I had a prescription as well. After researching I also found out that low levels of magnesium can be the culprit to vertigo. Desperate I went to the local drug store and took the magnesium supplements immediately. Within a few hours, I regained my balance, nausea went away and my eyes stopped twitching and started to feel normal again. Check it out, you can get tested for this but I didn’t waste anymore time feeling this way. Hope you get rid of it 100%. Good luck!

Thanks guys. Perfect. I joined the ranks of Vertigo lovers last year - visited the local ENT doctor and then on to physical therapy. Unfortunately, I really didn't get the drift of the whole procedure (Epley no doubt). We went through the "motions", I was sent home with a diagram and that was that. If it was helpful, I don't know and that's perhaps because my symptoms were weaker at the time. I just didn't know what step two was or better yet, although I knew the principles/theory that were driving the "maneuver", I still didn't get the whole picture and what was to follow. You guys presented a much clearer "picture" of how to do this and I learned more than anything else I've checked out thus far. That said, I thank you for posting up this video. PS. I like the talking.....

I've had the vertigo now just over a year. First my ENT diagnosed it as Vestibular Neuritis gave me some prednisone said the dizziness should be gone in a week. It wasn't.
Next stop a Physical therapist you have a crystal in your right ear. All last summer I did therapy including the Epley maneuver well over 100 times.
Next up my ENT said no you have a Vestibular Migraine. prescribed me Venlafaxine ER 37.5m (a anti-depressant). Take this for 2 weeks and you'll be fine. I take one at 10am. By noon the vertigo is 80% gone. Cool. At 2am the next morning I wake up with a blinding headache. Since I don't get headaches and I had read if you take this medicine you might want to monitor your blood pressure. So I take my blood pressure. It's 196/101. Yep off to the emergency room we go.
Anyone who can point me in the right direction you get a $100 bill in the mail. No B.S.

Check with your chiropractor as well to see if your occipital nerve is being messed up by the occipital area at the base of your skull. They can do an occipital lift adjustment that fixes that most of the time..............look up occipital nerve and vertigo.
Otherwise if you have eye movement and typical BPPV symptoms then stick with BPPV maneuvers

I tried multiple exercises like this with no luck. I will say what did work for me was using a neti pot to clear my sinuses. I'm not sure if the head tilting while using the neti pot fixed the vertigo or if the neti pot relieving the sinus pressure fixed the vertigo or maybe it was a combination of the both. But this is the first relief I felt in 6 days.

This technique has worked really well for me when I've had the BPPV on one side.
However this time it seems to be central. I did the Epley Manoever a couple of weeks ago & it helped, but it's back again. Do I just do this technique again or is there another technique for when it's central?

Yes had this today. I usually rest I'm okay. I went to sleep. Could not wat breakfast this morning. It is worse this time. It is scary. I am massaging the head faschia laying down straight. Well they always real bad. Steming from depression no activity etc maybe dehydration, bc spine no dr cuz covid since Feb. I don't have issues standing up walking rn as far as I know. The faschia massage help numbness asleep from circulation issues & air bubbles trapped & with meditation music and energies trapped. They follow down & out. I wish I could have a mat massager or massage atm so my back would get release too do whole body be ok.

I was still dizzy at 1 minute, so I stayed 2 minutes each position. My head was clear by then and taking a few more seconds was giving me a confidence. Also, I tried another maneuver that made me walk like a drunken sailor and caused the crazy eye movements. This was the maneuver where you are on your knees and bend forward to put your head between your knees, then turn your head and hold. After that not working for my case, I went back to the Epley and that helped corrected things. Point being, there are several maneuvers and having a vestibular-familiar physical therapist is crucial to doing the right maneuver.
