She told me one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever heard: “Everything will be okay in the end, dahhhhhling, and if it’s not okay it’s not the end.” RIP, Patricia! You were loved and you are missed ❤️
A wonderful interview. Mr. Manouse knows how to lead with intelligent questions, and then sit back and LISTEN. So many interviewers need to stick their egos in. Very annoying. Mr. Manouse helped me to know Ms. Neal better. He treated her with kindness, gallantry and genuine interest. THANK YOU!!!!!
She's outstanding playing the role of house keeper, she stood toe to toe with Paul Newmans role of Hud Bannon. Yes Patricia Neal is a great actress always will be . 5/5
Ernie - you ALWAYS ALWAYS are so gracious and giving in your interviews, and this one is no exception, just a fantastic interview and you gave her the respect and the kindness that she is entitled to and certainly should expect after all these years!! Fantastic stuff!
Patricia was born in Kentucky, and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. I lived with her aunt, Willa Belle (Neal) Hembree in Knoxville as a student at UTK. Mrs. Hembree often times showed me her silver all marked with "N" for Neal and the paintings and ceramics done by her mother who studied in eastern Europe (Austria I think). Willa Belle studied plan a and taught high school music. She later managed the opening of the business office at TVA. She later had a stroke as well as did Patricia. Willa Belle raised 2 children alone after her husband had gambled away her inherited fortune. Eventually she was mayor of the city. These two women fought thru numerous battles and persevered and accomplished much in life.
Mar Thivierge That was because of her Theatrical training. Can always tell a theater actor/(actress). They always project themselves , whereas others don’t. She was an incredible actress ‼️
From the first time I saw the movie the day the earth stood still as a boy I have loved Patricia Neal! Other than passed away family she is One of the first people in heaven I want to meet if I am so blessed! Love you Patricia!; Jim
She was very respectful to Roald Dahl in this interview. Her autobiography tells the real story, though. He was frequently cruel to her and eventually dumped her for a younger woman, a woman who she considered a dear friend. It was an incredible betrayal.
She was brilliant in Hud. She only appeared for 22 mins in the film, and she did so much with so little time. Her Oscar win was well-deserved. Unfortunately, her real life was also as dramatic as the characters she played. This woman never stopped soldiering on.
What a BEAUTIFUL, CLASSY WOMAN!!!! "A Face in the Crowd", "HUD", "The Walton's : Homecoming" and her role in the TV series Ghost Story among others secured her place in film. I MISS HER AND THAT MAGNIFICENT VOICE!!!! 😍🤗😘😘😘
Patricia had rare quality of commanding the screen. So unfortunate her personal life alienated her with most of Hollywood. Coop's wife Rocky was playing with fire.
I heard Sister Dolores Hart (former Hollywood starlet and current Mother Superior at a Catholic monastery) say that she and Patricia Neal had been friends since the 50s and that Miss Neal came to live at the monastery near the end of her life. She might be buried there, I don't know for sure.
A very well done interview. as a sci-fi fan, her character Helen Benson in 'Day the Earth Stood Still' was the fore runner for all the intelligent, passionate & compassionate, strong willed, level headed women of all later sci-fi films. And it is just me or would she have been perfect as Capt. Janeways mother in Star Trek: Voyager?
"her work was quickly overshadowed by an affair with the married Garry Cooper which resulted in a pregnancy, an abortion, and a nervous breakdown" Who is the chuckle head that writes this stuff
great actress--she did a uk version of the day the earth stood still--Stranger from Venus" (original title)1954,what was she thinking...great interview before she passed away..well done.
Hi Ernie! Turner Classic Movies needs to get you together with Robert Osborne so that both of you can discuss and introduce films to new audiences. You have a great, easy going interview approach.
After the 2008-remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, I was so curios to see the orignal. When I finally found it in 2010, I was amazed by Patricia's talent, and the warmth and care she brought to that movie. Afterwards I found out, that only a few days earlier, Patricia had passed away. May she rest in peace.. I haven't even seen all of her work, but I have no doubts of her being a great actress, not to mention a lovely person. :-)
Elizabeth Connolly TWO movies with John Wayne. Both war movies. In Harm’s Way also with Brandon DeWILDE (who was also in HUD). The other movie was Operation Pacific.
Yeah but she has said several times that Cooper was the love of her life.So I guess she didn't care about her legal husband that much. She and Gary Cooper really fell in love, which is so sad because he was married. When they put their relationship an end they got a deep depression for a long time.
Her and Gary Cooper fell deeply in love which sometimes happen between two lovely people. Patricas husband, on the other hand was just a consistent womanizer who always cheated on his wife. RIP TO ALL OUR DEPARTED SOULS
swampmammythe1 While her voice was unique, it wasn’t her voice that won the Tony, or Oscar. She was a FANTASTIC actress ‼️. She brought far more to the rolls she played ‼️
She told me one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever heard: “Everything will be okay in the end, dahhhhhling, and if it’s not okay it’s not the end.” RIP, Patricia! You were loved and you are missed ❤️
Alis ...thank you, I will always remember that. I love Patricia Neal.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
His kids hated her. She was a big problem for them and his wife
She wasn't his first and vice versa. No excuses and no resting in peace.
So beautifully put😊
@@Mmmkay10 Thank you!
An endlessly fascinating actress and woman. Her portrayals, her voice! But her own life was a series of tragedies.
What an inspiration she was...may she rest in peace.
Another fantastic interview from Ernie Manouse. Patricia Neal was a wonderful actress and she comes across like such a lovely and witty lady.
Patricia was born in Kentucky, and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. I lived with her aunt, Willa Belle (Neal) Hembree in Knoxville as a student at UTK. I'm watching the movie "to Olivia" and got curious about Patricia's story. Thank you for posting this interview.
I loved her in the episode of Little House on the Prairie. Knowing what she had suffered in her life made it deeply touching.
Such a good interview with Patricia. Thank you.
I loved how always enunciated her words in such a theatrical way.
Mar Thivierge That was because of her Theatrical training.
Can always tell a theater actor/(actress).
They always project themselves , whereas others don’t.
She was an incredible actress ‼️

Ernie ur awesome, you let guest speak, dont interrupt. And ask great questions. She was a wonderful woman, class act.
She was very respectful to Roald Dahl in this interview. Her autobiography tells the real story, though. He was frequently cruel to her
and eventually dumped her for a younger woman, a woman who she considered a dear friend. It was an incredible betrayal.
Terrible. :(
I remember she said that she "wouldn't marry that bastard again"
I couldn’t stand Roald after I read that book. I think he married her because she was an actress to begin with. He rode her coattails.
@@LawandaFinch nope. Roald Dahl was his own man.
She was brilliant in Hud. She only appeared for 22 mins in the film, and she did so much with so little time.
Her Oscar win was well-deserved. Unfortunately, her real life was also as dramatic as the characters she played. This woman never stopped soldiering on.
I love how she continued in love with Gary Cooper and was not afraid to show it.
Me too. I have read her autobiography and it’s wonderful! Someone needs to make a movie of her life. I couldn’t stand Roald after I read her book.
Her voice reminds me of Tallulah Bankhead.
She was a great actress and an all around classy lady. I love listening to her talk, she reminds me of Tallulah Bankhead.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT INTER-VIEW.ALWAYS THOUGHT MS.NEAL WAS A INSPIRATION TO ENJOY ON SCREEN. RIP!
that voice...that wonderful voice
Her autobiography is phenomenal in writing style and in content. A fascinating woman and a stellar actress.
Patricia had rare quality of commanding the screen. So unfortunate her personal life alienated her with most of Hollywood. Coop's wife Rocky was playing with fire.
So unfortunate that a much older married man moved in on her, and guess who suffered from the experience.
I remember Patricia Neal. An awesome actress. Rip. My mom loved her also.
Interviewers- take note- THIS is how to conduct an interview!
I heard Sister Dolores Hart (former Hollywood starlet and current Mother Superior at a Catholic monastery) say that she and Patricia Neal had been friends since the 50s and that Miss Neal came to live at the monastery near the end of her life. She might be buried there, I don't know for sure.
I have seen her in the movie breakfast at tiffany's. She was wonderful!
what a good interviewer, can't say I've heard his name before, but I am in the UK.
Love her to pieces.
One of the last of the Grand Dames!! Just an incredible actress and a remarkable woman!
She smoked too much
Too many strokes. Good in Hud though.
I think she would have played ann Bancrofts part in miracle worker just as great as ann rip beautiful ladies.
Her voice reminds me of Tallulah Bankhead ❤
Another heavy smoker.
Same. And also a bit of Barbara Stanwyck
Her voice reminds me of Jayne Mansfield's.
i mainly hear Kate Mulgrew
A very well done interview. as a sci-fi fan, her character Helen Benson in 'Day the Earth Stood Still' was the fore runner for all the intelligent, passionate & compassionate, strong willed, level headed women of all later sci-fi films. And it is just me or would she have been perfect as Capt. Janeways mother in Star Trek: Voyager?
darren holcomb She would have made an excellent Janeway.
i came here from comments under a mulgrew video saying their voices are similar and it's astounding to see (or rather hear)
"her work was quickly overshadowed by an affair with the married Garry Cooper which resulted in a pregnancy, an abortion, and a nervous breakdown" Who is the chuckle head that writes this stuff
great actress--she did a uk version of the day the earth stood still--Stranger from Venus" (original title)1954,what was she thinking...great interview before she passed away..well done.
this lady was born 10min from were I grew up great actress
A classy woman, strong, loving and forgiven especially to her younger self for her affair with Gary Cooper . RIP ALL✝️❤️
Wonderful actress and person. The interviewer is obviously enthused with his subject.
Mrs. Neal born Jan 20 1926 Happy birthday dear lady
Beautiful woman her heart made her extra beautiful.
she reminds me of my grandmother. she even looks like her. the voice, very similar.
love this lady
Me too, handsome! :)
Loved her in "Hud" and never went back.

Alex Paulsen Her performance in "A Face In The Crowd" (1957) was first rate too. A must see.
wonderful..love her.
I loved her in Operation Pacific and In Harm's Way with John Wayne.
I am watching Little House On The Prairie I didn't know that was her normal accent
I remember her from the Anacin commercials
She was amazing in The Subject Was Roses.
Great actress and that affair with "Coop. " OMG!
Bless her heart...she sounds a lot like the old man who asked all the questions on "Wings"
she did a movie with John Wayne too great lad6 xxx
Elizabeth Connolly TWO movies with John Wayne. Both war movies. In Harm’s Way also with Brandon DeWILDE (who was also in HUD).
The other movie was Operation Pacific.
She divorced her husband for cheating on her. Yet she was cheating with Gary Cooper on his wife. Wow. What comes around comes around.
Yeah but she has said several times that Cooper was the love of her life.So I guess she didn't care about her legal husband that much. She and Gary Cooper really fell in love, which is so sad because he was married. When they put their relationship an end they got a deep depression for a long time.

Excellent interview with Patricia Neal. Ernie Manouse makes late night talk-show hosts look like morons. Oh wait!
One word.......HUD!!
Love this Actress
18:04, sounds like she takes the blame for their divorce, BS
She sounds like Tallulah Bankhead lol
She fancied Gary cooper
And Gary Cooper fancied her.
she talks and looks quite a bit like an older Diana Rigg

The Fountainhead makes me puke in my throat a little (not her fault) but man in A Face in the Crowd...wow!
Why!?
I love Fountainhead ❤
It's such an indignity to see people get old crippled and helpless wrinkled etc
That’s life, but her beauty still shines through.
Grow up boy
Imagine how you will look at that age. lol
