  • As one of the original "Not Ready For Prime Time Players" on "Saturday Night Live," Jane Curtin redefined the way women were seen in comedy and brought a touch of class and humor to that notorious show. She stayed in television and continued to have success from "Kate & Allie" to "3rd Rock from the Sun". But what is closest to her heart is the time she spends as a Good Will Ambassador for UNICEF. On this episode of "InnerVIEWS with Ernie Manouse," is our conversation with Emmy award winning actress Jane Curtin.

A very well-adjusted and classy professional. Very heartening that someone can maintain her sense of self in a rather chaotic, high-pressure environment.

Jane Curtin was "straight laced" one both on and off the set of SNL. She was a sensible, level headed, hard working professional committed to doing the best job she could.
She didn't indulge in wild behaviour, make outrageous requests or became difficult and demanding to work with so not surprisingly she found it an often frustrating experience being surrounded by those who did behave in this manner.
More importantly she never fell victim to the excesses of show business. She kept focused and was able to parlay that into a successful career post SNL with two hit comedy shows where she won Emmy's for her much deserved work.

Did she die? Reads like a memorial.

+woohooboy I was thinking along similar lines. Just watching her here, it's easy to see that although a little older physically, she seems to be exactly the same person she was "back in the day." Not too many of us can keep that youthful charm and sincerity.

Jane Curtin's backstage frustrations with "SNL" are well known. She was (and still is) a very disciplined performer and the fact that she was surrounded by those who had the exact opposite approach to comedy made it a difficult experience for her.
She developed strong bonds with her fellow female castmates (Gilda Radner & Laraine Newman) but found some of her male castmates harder to get along with. She and John Belushi were not close at all.
Still she has had a very successful career

I watched her growing up in the late 70's early 80's on SNL and have made it a point to see just about everything she has been in since. Her news sets on SNL made me absolutely fall in love with her as an adolesant and that just never went away, I STILL have a cruch on her to this day :)

Jane Curtin was the only Not Ready For Prime Time Player who didn't do drugs. She caught John Belushi going through her pocketbook, but Lorne Michaels did nothing. The show needed Belushi.

People always talk about what a 'comic genius' John Belushi was. I read that he wanted to keep the women's skits down to a minimum on SNL because he didn't think they were funny. I thought Jane Curtin and Gilda Radner were much more entertaining than him.
