  • Today I install a stack of parts, to make the truck look like it might actually pass inspection. I install a new rear bumper, LED headlights and tail lights, freshen up the wheels with some cheap paint, then take the truck out and drive it around a little, and burn the tread off the tires!

    Pop out switch for the brake lights up on the brake pedal. Check that it's probably sticking. Drop the money on a new grill for a 68. The inserts are pricey for the 70-72 grills. Ask me how I know! I redid my truck when I could get alot of the parts through Ford in the early nineties.

    That bumper problem is exactly why I get all my parts from LMC trucks. All parts fit like its factory original. I restored a 77 F100 ranger. I tried to cut corners but ended up causing myself more work. In the end it cost me a little more but my parts fit perfectly.

    The project is really coming together! You're in the satisfying stage now where you can stand back and stare at your creation. I just recently did these things on my truck so I'll share what I found: youre gonna need an LED flasher instead of a standard one and the brake switch is mechanical not hydraulic and is just on the back side of the brake pedal. On my truck, the brake switch was functioning but I still had no brake lights. The problem ended up being a bad turn signal switch inside the steering column just behind the horn. I replaced that and bingo - brake lights! If you replace the turn signal switch, order some horn contact springs as well - yours are probably missing and are easily lost and broken.
    I ordered a rear bumper from LMC and as much as I don't like the poor quality of some of their products (any rubber product), this time the bumper was a near perfect fit. I didn't have any of the fitment issues you had with that bumper from Carpenters.
    I have the f250 with the 8 lug wheel pattern so my options were more limited than what you've got with the 5 lug f100 wheels. With the f100 you've got sooo many options for a nice set of negative offset wheels. That truck needs 'em...bad!
    Loving the build!

      nice! I found this was the pedal switch, someone had clipped the power wire to it and used it to power a radio or something.. guess they didn't realize they didn't have brake lights haha. I was wondering about the circuit through the turn signal though, wondering if that would cause a problem.. sounds like it does

    Dim lights are often corrected by a better ground connection. try it. Use di-electric grease on all terminals.
    Great job on bumper and wheels. Change the grille now, you know you will later. A black lowprofile hood scoop (fake) would look good. Go for new Brake Light Switch and consider HCBL (High Centre Brake Light). I know you will have figured out how to aim the lights by now. One connection will be for DTR lights. Nice helper! Traction Bars and Locker next!

    This is the most important post I have made! I checked and seen I hadn't watched the first one where you have a 390 engine with mixed rods and caps. This is very important!!! You by now know about how ford used the FE block with different cranks and rods to get the displacement so not to waste time there. What I saw was the reinforced ribs on the block! Very rare block as that is the one that they used to make the 427! A 428 is smaller bore than the 427 and the ribbed block is the only block that you can bore out to the 427 specks. Then the cranks are easy as they sell them new but that block is unobtainium or so hard to find. So if your not interested in it there will be someone who knows fords like I do. My 64 galaxie had the factory 427/4 speed and it had that block I ran into it again on a pickup like the one you're fixing and it had that block with the ribs so I went to my machinist and he bored the block, I bought the proper parts and put it in my 76 highboy 4X4 truck and it was so powerful that it would take the centers out of the wheels. I hope you didn't scrap it as it is the only block for this build.. I didn't drill the outside cross crank for the four bolt main but was told that I should and it's your call on it.

    • @330_garage3
      @330_garage3  4 роки тому

      You're saying that grey 390 hodge podge block is a rare block?? I'm wasnt able to find any numbers on it to verify what it was

    • @morgansword
      @morgansword 4 роки тому

      @@330_garage3 Those blocks are the only ones with the factory reinforced sides. When you look at the start of your video, that old gray block that they hoge poged the rod caps on, you will see the unfinished rough gray cast steel rib on the OUTSIDE of the block placed by the factory for the larger bore. If you check your bore numbers in your repair manual they all wore the same sized hole for the piston.. Why I can't just remember the bore size I don't know, I raced at Arlington and that is the block we all used. They are just so dang rare, hard to find.I figure they used them up in trucks as the three fifty two or three ninety engines, I can't remember what the three sixty bore was but I think its the same. I haven't been out of the house since I got hurt bad. I caught a man who fell from his roof level out of a ladder and I automatically just caught him breaking ever lumbar vertebrae in my back. Number four and five were crushed so I don't walk any more. I hunt hard enough, I can find the machinist phone number as he did the same racing and is a wizard at them. I worked as a mechanic for over thirty years in heavy equipment but racing and those blocks were my passion. The cylinder walls are thin on the 427 which has a larger bore than the 428, Check an see, they are in lines on each side, rows of rough cast

    Wow, wondering if they make that for my Explorer, of course they would since it is just small bulb with a retainer ring. Love the sound of your ford truck. Not sure if its straight piped or some muffler brand. I like your analogy of why things work or don't. You got your act together. Nice having a lift to do what you do to on the truck. Those hubcaps are nicknamed dog dishes and it kinda makes sense. You must of changed the dimmer switch. Any grill in good shape to me would be better but knowing some years the grill looked funky. I like what you did with the hubcap painting the center then accenting the center, worth the effort. Could take one at a time and take a light body hammer or maybe a soft blow style hammer that won't leave garish dents too. Takes time but just massage them out. Nice job, people get tired of the new 80 thousand dollar look. Imagine I paid five thousand for my first home, two bedroom with pantry and five acres. No it wasn't new but it was decent or nice and had a small yard that was green. That would buy forty homes and it the fifty years ago since would be a chunk of change. Saw the ad for a new diesel ford truck and with all the bells and whistles, was over eighty thousand and will be a rust bucket in ohio (rust belt) in five years. Watching Andrew Carmara in new york with a new, well five year old dodge and the brake lines were rusted off and the fuel line were heavily contaminated. He was saying that the companies ought to be responsible for stuff like that and he is right in many ways as your older truck has patina but it is not a rust bucket
