Thank you for this great video! We have a Brittany, and she’s a great hunter. She points, retrieves, and swims. What sets Brittanys apart from other upland dogs is their size. They’re nice and small. But they’re hunting machines. Small but mighty. They also have more dual championships than any other breed.
Beautiful dogs and you can see this breeder-trainer truly loves the breed and teaching them etc. You can see the positive end result in his actual dogs. Thank you Dogumentary TV and Zeke for another beautiful video of amazing dogs. Eric Von Herzen is an awesome blues musician as well lol. God bless.
I’ve had britts my whole life. Britt, beau, belle, Beatrice and brandy. Belle just left is at the age of 19. They are fierce hunters and even fiercer family members. They are in a league of their own when it comes to love and skill. We’ve come up with the term OBADS for the orange ones. Orange Brittany attention deficit syndrome. They are always the more neurotic ones!! Liver and whites are incredibly affectionate. Yes they are not duck dogs. They like to move!!!
My father had a Britany that we used to hunt pheasant and woodcock with - BEST hunting dog ever. Would work all day and just loved being out in the woods and fields. Also a great dog around the house, good size. Just a great dog if you get them out and active.
Brittanys are the very best in heavy cover working close. I started training my girl to hand signals. After a couple years it was as if she was reading my mind, anticipating my commands. Them MI Ruffed Grouse never stood a chance.
Brilliant video Eric ….I had to get a shock collar for my Brittany to reinforce the recall otherwise I’d have a heart attack trying to keep up with him..Only ever shocked him two times then he knew after the whistle or bleeps to return and always did so.He pointed under a peregrine falcon and it was exciting but the game season would go too fast.
Don’t apologize or be afraid about using the training color. It’s the only way to keep a dog safe, and have him come back 100% of the time. Most people don’t realize that when we use a training collar the stimulation is so low the dog barely feels it. It’s just a cue on the dogs neck to signal him to return or whatever your training into him.
@@deerhost Kudos on the E collar. It may save their life.,(running across a busy road, confronting a rattlesnake). I used my E-collar on my Griiffon to stop him from running deer. Only shocked him hard once with deer and it worked the rest of his life. RIP Magoo. You are missed
This looks like it was filmed at Prado. Beautiful dogs! I bring my setter there often. Hopefully I will have the pleasure to come across your dogs one of these days. Thanks for posting.
Had a Brittany growing up, just as a family dog we weren’t hunters. The most amazing dog ever, crazy smart and athletic but I also watched her do some of the dumbest derpiest things lol. Love these dogs can’t wait to have a house of my own to get another❤️
Great video! I would add that the greatest difference between field trial Brittanys and hunting Brittanys is that trial dogs must work more independently of the owner/handler. It is expected that a competitive pointing dog will work at extreme range as a result of this independence. I add that my hunting dogs perform exactly the same whether trialed or hunted. Some folk seem to think that hunting wild birds promotes dogs that break on either the flush or shot. Simply put, that is a reflection of their training/trainer rather than their ability as a properly trained hunter. NO, there is no advantage in having your hunting dog break on the retrieve. This is a fallacy sourced from hunters that put shooting ahead of their dog's entry level performance. The BEST retrievers stand steady and mark the downed bird(s). then, they are sent to retrieve. They are also not going to run through a covey subsequent to a hunter shooting at a few early flushing birds. It is MUCH safer for your dog to be completely steady around shotguns too.
I have trained hunted Brittaies for 50 years. AKC be damned, EB are a separate breed, and different hunting style. AB (American Brit) hunts farther out, EB (French Brittany)hunts closer. Either one will take and birds, and small game very well. They are also used on larger game up to boar. I love hunting Pheasant with Brits.
@@toga1022 Well not exactly the same DNA, there are differences in the DNA, black nose vs pink nose is from genetic differences. Otherwise all dogs would be Huskies ( God help us).
Yeah I heard that the Britney was used to be called the Brittany spaniel but it’s different and it makes sense that the Brittany is more of a pointer than a spaniel
when you train them to heal, is it on the left side like other dogs or the right side like falcon pray dogs?, do you suggest a ecollar for recall? thank you so much, trying to learn as much as possible before our pup comes home (we want him to go hunting with us)
Those are American Brittanys, different from the Epagneul Breton (French brittany). Epagneul Bretons come in multiple colors, are generally smaller, hunt closer, and have black noses instead of pink. Both breeds are excellent hunters, but the Americans were bred to have more range.
Hahahaha, I definitely had moments when my Brittnay flipped me the bird... and many more moments when my Brittnay see the angry look on my face and give me a Pikachu face in return...
Hi my name is James Tatum, I was wondering if I could pick your mind a bit and see if you could teach me how to train a Brittany spaniel to hunt upland game birds? I’d definitely appreciate the help. Thanks for your time.
@@justinjeffries1554 Darnit, I misspoke! Sorry! Some Brittanys are born with a so called bobtail, if one of their parents were also a bobtail, but if you cross a bobtail Brittany to another bobtail, the puppies that inherit the bobtail gene from both parents will die in the womb. Also, the natural bobtail might not be considered to be as beautiful as a docked tail. So most Brittanies are born with a long tail. In many countries the tails are traditionally docked. This happens early in their life and is done by cutting the tail off or wrapping a tight band around the tail to make it fall off. Docking is illegal in some countries.
@@llanos8320 Do you know how common that is, though? I was just thinking cause all hunting dogs around here have long tails, and I've never seen/heard of one that broke it's tail.
I have a Brit down in San Diego. I’ve had one successful first quail hunting season as he is now just over one. However, I want to take him to more formal training. Do you have any trainers you’d reccomend in SoCal? Thank you!
I train GSP's professionally, but grew up with Brittanys, excellent family dogs and hunters. If you're looking to compete, there are better breeds but Brittanys can do it if you do your research on breeders and put the time into it. Outstanding field dogs, hit or miss in the water - again RESEARCH AND TRAINING.
I heard some history on a Scottish blue pual type of pit I did not hear much history on the that breed but I often wonder if they are starting of the blue color I see today.
Question for you... I got a Brittany after I was "interested" in any kind of hunting. I say that with quotation marks to emphasize that I have always been interested in hunting but never got to experience it. My dad was a huge hunter and fisher but unfortunately I never got to really go on any trips with him. That being said, I have my Brittany, and first and foremost he will be a companion to me, but what would be the easiest way to get him, and me, into the sport? I want to give him more purpose than just a pet. I want him to feel accomplished after a days work.
Picardy Spaniel, Blue Picardy Spaniel, and French Spaniels are all pointing spaniels. Only in the US are "all spaniels" flushers. Except for Epagneul bretons which have retained the "spaniel" in the name.
Good video, but I would say a Brittany does indeed flush and does a very good job doing it. Sure, drop Spaniel from the name but that doesn't change what the dog does. Brittany's point, flush, and retrieve.
I have a black and white male Britny from France and he's a very good hunting dog ... Do you sell your puppys ? I live on a carabean island called st maarten ... we hunt wild pigeons and doves from July to January
If I remember correctly black tends to be a dominant colour in dogs, so if the general preference in that breed is to have some other colour(s), black coloured dogs tend to be excluded from the "show line", breeders that focus on working line dogs might not care so much about the colour of the dog.
