Join us as we take a tour of Patrick Torrens' kennel at Rosstulla Gundogs and meet his 5 active English Springer Spaniel dogs, Riot, Tuppence, Logan, Maggie, and Honey. Patrick uses these dogs for hunting ducks and rabbits, and each of them is in different stages of training. In this video, Patrick talks us through kennel life, training, feeding, and even gives us a demonstration of a retrieval with a dummy in the brush with gunshot and in water. He emphasizes that these animals are happy, well-cared for, highly trained, and bred for this purpose. Patrick explains that Working English Springer Spaniels and other well bred Working Gundogs breeds are all selected to be soft mouthed, ensuring that all retrieved game is fit for the table.
This guy and these dogs are living the dream! Love the control of the dogs whereby they'll wait as the ball is thrown and then one named dog will retrieve. My neighbours ESS that I look after sometimes has already run 10 metres away as soon as I even draw my arm back to throw the ball! Brilliant dogs!
Such pretty dogs. I hear that they’re nice and calm, but also hear they are very driven and never settle down. Can they just be a family pet? What a lovely video, they are living their best life with you.❤
Had springers as a kid, helped dad out on beats etc. Finally getting my own this weekend hopefully. Can't wait.
Your Springer's are beautiful. They are clearly very well trained. A tip of my cap Sir.
gorgeous Springers so good to see happy dogs working
Awesome vid - I've known Patrick and his spaniels for almost 20 years now and he is definitely the most caring and passionate dog owner/trainer I know!
Great video, My first springer just turned 1 a few months ago and he is a great dog. He loves to hunt and get spoiled.
Ce sont des chiens exceptionnels, très très beau les vôtres Félicitations Monsieur
We love our Springers! They are so eager to please.
Springer's Rule!
Cocker spaniels as well, great gundogs.
Super Cool
Cockers close behind
I really enjoyed watching your dogs work. Thank you.
Amazing creatures, I have three of them I won’t be without them being me so much joy🐶👏
I just got one as a house pet. Hunted springers with my dad since I was 10. They really are such a great breed. Our first one got hit by a car it was the only time I saw my dad cry. He cried like a little kid. Got a puppy like a day later and they're the only breed we've had since.
Absolutely fantastic. What a great owner. I love those springers. They look an amazing working companion. 😊
Great Vid,love the Springers.Ours are family dogs, lost our great girl recently, after 12 1/2 yrs, still have a twelve month old.😍She looks very similar to your 'Honey'
Congratulations Patrick. A superb showcase for our Springers. Looking forward to catching up soon. Best wishes.
I’ve had a lot of dogs, mugs and hunting and working dog/ shepherds. So far our Springer is doing very well. She’s only 4 months old, but I can tell 5his breed has a lot to offer. Easy to train, aims to please.
Excellent advise on training, my 6 YO ESS is so much fun. I'd love to get another.
Wow, goose bumps.....my springer spaniel of 16 month is called Hazel
That was a great vid to watch, great dogs and great trainer :)
your passion ... adorable!
Could you please ask Patrick to make another Springer Spaniel video? This one was awesome!
Lovely dogs amazing temperament.
I adored my late Springer spaniel Holly, great company
Great stuff! I don't hunt but I've got a Springer, only dog for me.
Can't go wrong a great companion
Lovely dogs !
I have a sprocker family pet such a loving and affectionate dog loves being with people thinks every one has just come see her ❤ sits with me all the time and sleeps with me every night xxx🇬🇧🇬🇧🥰
Look at all those good boys 😍😍
Hopefully getting a springer soon we have to vote on it though.
Great video
Bonny is similar colours to Roxy, Roxy has more white on ears
Beautiful dogs. So intelligent so fun!! 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Awsome, I have a 1 year old female springer, and I really want to train her, but she just wants to play!😂
Il miglior cane del mondo..The best dog in the world!!!
Great to see your dogs don’t have there tails docked, as breeders in the US seem to have them docked. Also, the heads on your dogs don’t seem as “blocky” as the English Spaniels in the US. I much prefer the look of your dogs. Finally, have you ever had experience with Welsh Springer Spaniels? Would appreciate reading your thoughts on Welsh versus English.
Wonderful video - you clearly love your dogs! Thank you.
I’ve not had any experience with Welsh Springers, though they look very handsome dogs.
We have 3 springers and unfortunately the ones which don't have their tails docked cut them up when hunting
Really dpends on the area you hunt - If there's thick brush or briars they're better off with docked tails
If it's open and clean meadows the tail doesn't get in trouble.
@@Izamota-q5v appreciate your response. I’m really looking at a Welsh Springer Spaniel as a pet, rather than as a hunting dog.
The reason their tails are docked is to prevent them getting damaged and causing the dog pain during hunting in thick bushes which is usually what springers in the UK do.
Any tips on keeping their ears and hearing healthy, especially if they like to swim at every chance?
Keep them clean and dry especially if they've been in dirty water, something like Otoflush is really good.
@@PatrickTorrensthank you. I'll look into it.
think its lovely to see them do wot they do best my youngist cocker caught a bird ....was soo suprised the bird was unharmed an i retrived the bird an let it loose ...it all comes soo natural to them amazing breed i would never have any other breed now love my cockers but do need exsercise an trainning
Your explanation is really lovely
I would like to ask you would you consider a Spring spaniel to be a Service dog?
Our last springer was one hell of a huntres.
My Springer is 3½, he's a pet, doesn't work, anyway he's got a couple of bad habits, pulling on the lead and sometimes not coming to hand when called... can this be corrected at his age?
On the seventh day God created the Springer Spaniel !
hi.my daughter have puppy English C.S. she loves hunting. swimming. running. jumping. .is there place use for hunting my puppy.so fast. smart.
Where are you based?
Moving over from England start of next year, bringing my springer over I thought her hunting downs were Over!
South Australia. Good spaniel country also in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania
@@PatrickTorrens thanks for the reply mate, I’m moving to Queensland, is there any groups there that you know of that go out on shoots?
Cheers
@@s.g6353 Not that I know of ..... a bit warm fort hunt springers up there!
I love that drying towel!!! Where can I get that??
Snooza Pet Products; I always carry a couple in my truck when I'm away hunting.....great for when the dogs come out of the duck swap or it's been a wet day in the field.
@@PatrickTorrens Thank you! Excellent video!
Bloody gorgeous
How big need the car bench be for an English springer ?
Great video .I myself am looking into getting a brittany spaniel for hunting any suggestions on books to read or videos to watch
My advice? Get a working Springer! 😊
I have very limited experience with Brittany Spaniels, but if you contact your local Working Gundog Association I’m sure someone will be able to assist
beautyful dogs
Really nice dogs and interessting video, but why do you accept the dogs to jump up = extremely dirty trousers?
Wow your dogs are gorgeous! 4000AUD is around 2600USD. That seems really high! One of our springer's dad was on the cover of Field and Stream twice and he was only 2000USD. (though that was the year 2000)
My 16month old I have now was 1400USD which I thought was cheap but she is turning into one of the best springers I've ever owned! All the papers too!
Nice video. I have 3 springer spaniels. They are wonderful dogs. Do you have your own channel?
No
@@PatrickTorrenstoo bad, your experience would be great to learn from.
No entiendo nada de lo que dice y realmente me gustaría saber todo sobre los spaniels.😢😢
Sorry..but my Spanish is non-existent.
Why do you allow the dogs jump up to you ?
4000.00 aus?
Got 2 myself they get lots of attention
And that's d best thing they love attention and give back so much joy to see a happy dog
How do you think an older springer would do with a younger one?
Excellent. Awell bred Springer will be awsome under all circumstances
I veri springer 😍
MY DREAM
Male or Female? First time hunting dog?
👍❤
Am very interested to see this video. We have Springers in the UK. My brothers lives in Australia but we are always saying our dogs wouldn't last a day in Australia because they would find too many snakes!
Other than training, when I pick cool mornings and evenings I don't work the dogs during the summer months......it would be very unusual to find a snake during the winter months which is our hunting season.
So what happens to these breeds if there is no hunting? Do they disappear or become show ponies and lap dogs (nothing wrong with that if it's what you want). These are working dogs and what will become of them as a breed? They are training us as much as we train them, that will disappear and we will be so much poorer for that.
Why would people stop using these dogs to hunt?
@@conorlinehan4434if hunting gets banned I guess
Hunting for a springer can be as simple as using your nose to find and retrieve something, find a bumper or toy tossed into tall grass or forest, floating bumper in a creek, etc.
Can it pick up a big honker goose for hunting they are so small
If I was predominately hunting geese I would have Labrador every day of the week, but in South Australia the largest waterfowl we hunt are Mountain Duck which a Working Springer will handle all day.
Geese, yes. Absolutely
Mine have
Traducir al español por favor
Non capisco l'inglese ma lo springer spaniel mi piace.
Lovely dogs. don’t think you have to shoot things to have them. They are great family dogs it was said they are very trainable. True that. I hate when working dogs get stereotyped into one thing kind of like the Malinois like it’s only a protection or herding dog and that’s all I can do. I say bullshit.
Exactly. A Springer can be a police dog, therapy dog, service dog ,obedience champ or just the best companion ever!! Also search and rescue, scent discrimination etc
@@randystern7870 I agree the Working Springer Spaniel is a very versatile breed, the stockyard for all these uses has always been from working kennels as these are the breeders that select for the desirable traits that are so valuable in all the above mentioned fields.
Spaniels in general are a very loveable breed of dogs friendly and mad for fun
There is no better dog.
Bọn trẻ thật đáng yêu, tôi ao ước có được 1 bé nhưng điều này là không thể vì mình ở quá xa nhau
4000.00 Australian? Must be some Doggie
4000 dollar's. Christ thats madness for a pup. No wonder puppy farms blew up everywhere in the last few years. I just bought a registered pup from good hunting stock in ireland for €450.
That's about £2000 or E2200. Seems pretty reasonable to me for a top quality lineage. But different markets - different prices.
You'd pay the same for a good registered proven bloodline in the UK
We should make that breed big for bringing game bigger
Should be left alone amd kept the traditional way
wheres birds?? poor them no hunting game
Looks like there a cross. There not pure English. There is some Welsh in there due to the ginger in the ear feathers.
Definitely Working English Springer Spaniels!
