@Joe-xm3fm What @Cletus said and consider the amount of water that goes into keeping the field green. All in all, golf courses are a waste of natural resources. And for what? So a select few can chase a little white ball around?
When we first watched this episode and Steve was intruding the dogs, my 4 year old daughter was hoping it was butchie badtoe or head honcho from when Kevin had on in season 2 or 3 I think lol. Make some shirts lol
Kevin is awesome, the small game episodes you guys have been doing over the 12 seasons are some of my favorites! Action packed and fun with some excellent cooking tips to try!
That was a great sentiment at the end. If hunting is the inhale, the kitchen and camaraderie is the exhale, and it takes both actions for a complete breath. I'm gonna use that, for sure.
It doesn't matter what he's hunting or where he's hunting it, Steve always hunts, interacts with others, and narrates in a way that seems to capture perfectly the essence of the outdoors and boarders on artistic.
As much as I enjoy just about every piece of MeatEater content that blesses our lives, I know for DAMN sure, I'm not the only one thats been praying for another episode including the smallgame legend himself; Kevin Murphy!! 👏 👏 👏
Some of my best hunting memories are hunting Squirrels & Rabbits. I never get tired of watching Steve doing these hunts. And when you throw Kevin Murphy in a small game hunt, you know it's going to be fun.
I'm so happy you gave smallgame hunters some love. Grew up eating bushy tailed tree dwellers and everything up from there. By far my favorite thing to hunt with the boys. ❤
Loved this episode. Kevin Murphy is a national treasure and needs more screen time! Zuck was a fun feller to have on the hunt as well! Great stuff fellas!
Nothing better than watching dogs work!! I went on a hunt with a group that takes disabled vets hunting and seeing those dogs work just got me hooked!!!
Another great episode. I love these where he narrates, gives some back story, they go out and hunt and then they cook up & eat. Additionally, I never knew that this time of year, the female squirrels run off while the males stay put. It makes sense and although I don't know what the final tally was, they did look to be mostly, if not all, males. Also, I'll have to check out that tiger butter sometime.
19:50 Shout out the Michigan operation freedom outdoors!! I’d recognize that orange beanie anywhere. They take disabled citizens and veterans out and get them back in the outdoors.
As a former water-features-for-golf -course builder, cannot applaud Matt Cook enough. And as a proud Kentuckian, Kevin Murphy’s got a spot on our Mt. Rushmore next to Abe Lincoln, Muhammad Ali and Jeff Turner. Mucho mahalo for this one, Steve 🤙🏼‼️
That sure brought back memories of many long gone squirrel and cottontail hunts. Thanks, guys for a great video and the triggering of some great memories.
Small Game. A national treasure! If only more of the deer hunters out there knew of it (I can say that, I was late to the deer hunting party, and even later to small game). Thanks guys
When I was a kid my grandfather had some land where we hunted dove, quail, squirrel, rabbits, deer, coyotes, and rattlesnakes. He had a WWII buddy that was a successful eye surgeon that would come hunt with him a few times a year. Kevin Murphy is a dead ringer for this man who died 35 years ago. Even the same accent. Doc used to even bring beagles along to hunt rabbits. He was a great man. Thank you for making these shows.
I always wanted to turn the golf course by my house into a motocross track when I was a kid. It would be really cool to see what kind of wildlife you could get to move in! Love the small game episodes! Season 12 is turning out to be another great season from the team!
Having just exhaled, ie eaten muntjac deer burger that I inhaled, shot on the 10th of this month, I can attest to the veracity of your analogy. Both of our meals and shoots were made better by the company we kept! Thanks to Steve and the all at the MeatEater team!!
Today we worked our bushytail/cotton tails off and tonight we Feast on the bounty that the Good Lord has provided for us. That honestly looks like a meal fit for a king. I remember the days of running beagles, those were the best days hunting I remember. God Bless Guy and Kevin for keeping the tradition alive. Release The Hounds!
Steve always cooks what he kills and enjoys it on the videos, that's what I love about him. he's one of the few people I've seen do this ,and in my eyes that makes him a true hunter and sportsman.
Oh, boy! There's nothing better than listening to dogs working in the woods! That's the most fun you can have on a hunting trip. I smiled and laughed, and mostly, wished I was there with y'all. Wonderful episode!!
Great episode Steve! We're around the same age and this brings back tons of wonderful memories of rabbit hunting in W Michigan and listening to the beagle on a hot one. Every day during Christmas break us kids would be at Uncle Herms place chasing rabbit and at the end of the season eating Hasenpfeffer dinner. Thanks! Be safe and God bless
This is tremendously entertaining TV. I love when you feature Kevin Murphy. I've just begun small game hunting and the table fare at the end made my mouth water. I learn a little bit more each time I watch. Way to represent KY, Mr. Murphy.
I remember my first time hunting as a little boy about 5 or 6 with my grandfather we had dogs also this rabbit came out running to a hole my grandfather shot, it did three flips in the air and landed in that hole it was headed to no lie, I'm 38 now I'll never forget great memories never go away. Awesome video
Same for me. My first memories feeling like a man was when I was set loose to get dinner in the woods. I asked "what do I shoo?t" and he says "anything but a deer or elk or you don't want to eat" Probably not the first time a person wondered... "do I want to eat that crow?" I came back with some berries, nuts, squirrels, a rabbit and a proud smirk. Every kid should have that experience to be able to provide dinner to their family.
HOLY CROW Cottontail tempura!!! I literally just made this the other day, by FAR my favorite way to cook a rabbit. I do it exactly as you did there, remove the back straps and debone the hind quarters, pound out with a tenderizer. I bread mine in panko though, season the flour with various spices. Shallow pan fry, flip when brown, out of the pan and a touch of salt to finish them off while they are still scalding hot. Oh my goodness it's so good.
Great video and some great recipes thank you very much for sharing them with us truly enjoyed watching that and remembering hunting rabbits and squirrels with my dad and my Grandpa
Hands down best ever meat eater episode ever everyone can and should go small game hunting not only does it check all boxes of what hunting with friends and family is all about but the rewards are unbelievable beast episode to date Steve great job god bless you sir love it
Absolutely love these beginning to end episodes, where yall gather and eat your harvest. It's as much of a hunting show as it is a cooking show. Seeing the end result, is what really gets me excited about hunting. Fantastic episode. Kevin is a total character and great guy. He definitely needs his own show😂
I'm also from Michigan. I really miss the days of going squirrel hunting with my buddies out on the state land after school just goofing around most of the time. They've all moved far away and out of state now. Really wish I wouldn't have taken those days for granted.
I’ve never been rabbit hunting but my grandpa sure did love it. I’ve been told that he had a great pack of beagles. I knew that Kevin ain’t from up north. Keep up the good work brother.

Yes very much agreed. Of all the cast of characters on meateater Kevin and Ronnie baine are freaking hilarious.
What I love about the small game episode is that this type of hunting is available to everyone starting out. You don't need expensive equipment etc.
