The Rebel transport always reminded me of an insect egg case or cocoon, quite remarkable being a craft that is designed to escape, keep the crew protected so they can hatch out again somewhere safe.
The black tower is actually the ship's bridge, which means that this is actually about 1/100th scale, similar to the MPC Millennium Falcon kit. A very nice Rebel Transport model appears in the Airfix Hoth hangar kit.
I've always assumed that the doodab on the top was intended to be the cockpit. It's about the right size (somewhere in between the B-Wing cockpit-pod and the Millenium Falcon cockpit) and Star Wars spaceships tend to have cockpit windows but these are obviously missing from the front of the Rebel Transport.
I had the original vinyl "luchbox-ish" figure case....quickly outgrew that. Then the Vader case...outgrew that. Combined it with the C3P0 case...and even together, not enough room. The Rebel transport ultimately became my figure storage/carrying case. Even though I had more figures than compartments, there was still enough interior space to stuff about 20 more figures in there. So this was more of a "practical" vehicle than anything I actually played with.
just watched this again luke as i managed to pick one of these up this weekend at an antique's fair complete but missing the box for £30 including all the part's (ramp, back pack's and gas mask's too!) well pleased :)
My friend Tessa found a boxed one of these in her parent's attic. She went to get it out for me and found that it had NEVER been opened before - It was brand new. Bought at a discounted price in the late 80s and put in the loft, presumably an unwanted present. The bright yellow toy-shop bag it was in had kept it in amazing condition. She opened the box and showed me all these sealed baggies inside containing all the parts. Was an amazing discovery, although not particularly valuable this one.
Great review Pal I have an opportunity to pick one of these up near complete. I think I'm going to jump on it. Many fond memories in my youth of playing with this ship at my cousin's house.
Very nicely done review Luke. I've never really seen this piece before to be honest. The box is just priceless! I also really liked seeing the transport filled with the more appropriate figures. "General Madine and his twin brother." LOL! Take care my friend. Thanks for sharing.
Had this until about 3 years ago the front cockpit lift away roof ended up missing near its end. Loved this, along with the ATST, both of which I got for Christmas ‘83/84?
I'm 40 now looking back I should have looked after my star wars toys, my Transformers toys my he-man toys, they all went missing or got smashed up. Thousands of £'s worth of toys and not a single toy left. I was spoiled
You played! I have almost all the figures, and ships, walkers etc, form 1977 to 1983 and my kids, and all my friends young kids when they visit even to today get to play with them and run riot, I dread to think what they are all worth, but they love them and go crazy, worth a lot more!
Nice assortment of custom painted C-3po, they look great. Thanks for another great video...now I have to get busy hunting down all the bits i'm missing for my transport.
something i don't have and i never worked out why! lol. great stuff as ever luke. i remember mailing away for a set of the spare backpack's/weapon's/gas mask's etc. this take's me right back to the late 70's/ early 80's. cool.
Incredible - two for two - this is the last Star Wars vehicle I remember seeing in Argos! (Skorponok being the last G1 Transformer). I reeeaaaaaally used to want this (I always wanted the more odd vehicles the most - like the Twin Pod car). Unlike Skorpy though, I never picked it up from eBay...
Top review fella, what can I say your a natural! Your review style is up there with the best for my money mate, this was a great piece on release and still holds up all these years later. I love to know the final numbers on the pieces that Kenner sold. Enjoy the weekend, Cheers Fuzz.
actionjackman muy problem is that I want to buy a reproduction of the original box. The spaceship has 23 centimeters with the black puede to open and close. Can you tell me please the measurements of the box?. Thank you muy friend.
Man... that would have gutted me. I think the only big thing I ever bought from Argos was the Zoids Giant Zrk. I had to wait for it to be delivered, and by the time it arrived (well after my birthday) I'd come down with a virus. I associate it with disappointment and illness.
Fantastic!---this is one that has eluded me over the years---Out of all the videos I have seen on this one--I have never seen it full of vintage figures---great review mate
From what I remember of Argos back in the 80s at Christmas they were always out of stock of the big stuff and I always ended up spending the money on something else. Case in point, Boulder Hill, queued for ages and it was out of stock. I got Switchblade and Slingshot instead.
Ah the memories. The transports utilitarian dullness was its greatest strength. A kid really has to use his imagination with a toy like that. Better than the showy, loud 'falcon' any day.
Yes the ship was in The Empire Strikes Back, but this version of the toy was it’s second release...this one being from Return of the Jedi. The first version of the toy was from The Empire Strikes Back and the box was different. Kenner would change the packaging to suit the movie release.
Awesome review my friend. It's a shame that to this day, this is the only version of Rebel Transport. I hope they release a more movie accurate one soon. Classic ship. Too bad it hasn't aged very well. Cheers.
it was definitely this one, im probably just remembering things that didnt exist, i mean, im getting to that age where what happened last week is a bit of a blur...it could be that im thinking of the black handle at the top
Every toy series has that glorified action figure container/storage case. I still don't get why they made this thing with guns INSIDE the ship itself that couldn't be used unless you take that back cover off.
The Rebel transport has got to be most un-Star Wars:y looking ship in the history of Star Wars. It looks more like the War Rocket Ajax from Flash Gordon.
can't hear ewan McGregor lol. I've just recently subscribed/ started watching, really enjoying the variety, particularly Star Wars content. Do you plan to do anymore? New stuff maybe?
Donna Bates More Star Wars for sure, supposed to be doing the complete vintage line by movie, still on Empire! haha New stuff I only collect Black Series and occasionally Sideshow. Might show some of the 90s stuff if they still class as new.
It could just be my brain playing games with me, it does that a lot, but i seem to remember the bottom of the one i had was black, or at least a slightly different colour than the top. could i be right or is my brain, in fact, a cow?
Vintage Starwars is dying fast because the market is so flooded. I see this stuff at the Goodwill. It's sad the Starwars Generation is dying and they didn't capitalized on the market. It's like baseball cards. Scale was terrible compared to the figures. I'll give you $5 at the most, just to pack away.lol
Probably the most disappointing Christmas present I ever received. It was total shit. It was a glorified figure 'tidy'. Ungrateful little bastard I was. Although, Darth Vader's Tie Fighter was the best birthday present I ever received.
I had this thing, it blew my mind. It was like a friggin Star Wars Noah's ark. I was stoked about the backpacks and gas masks too.
The Rebel transport always reminded me of an insect egg case or cocoon, quite remarkable being a craft that is designed to escape, keep the crew protected so they can hatch out again somewhere safe.

I had this as a kid. I loved it. I used to use the inside as a hanger for mini rigs.
I had one of these behemoths and used it more for play than as an action figure case. The sheer size of it was glorious.
I remember having this as a kid, my mum surprised me with it one day after school, loved it. Ah, memories...
Much more play value with this than your standard carry case. I never had any back in the day
I've always assumed that the doodab on the top was intended to be the cockpit. It's about the right size (somewhere in between the B-Wing cockpit-pod and the Millenium Falcon cockpit) and Star Wars spaceships tend to have cockpit windows but these are obviously missing from the front of the Rebel Transport.
This came up in my suggested videos. Fantastic job. I haven't thought about this toy in 4 years. What a great toy. Thanks for the awesome video.

That is an awesome find! Did she let you keep it?
Great review Pal I have an opportunity to pick one of these up near complete. I think I'm going to jump on it. Many fond memories in my youth of playing with this ship at my cousin's house.

Damn!!! Love that bunch of protocol droids.
I have this! Didnt get one til a few years later... it's a great for keeping figs and it's great for making dioramas type scenes.

*that is an AWESOME toy.. any kid with FOURTY figurines would have been King of the neighborhood!*
9:59 I actually said "Whoa!" out loud, Keanu Reeves from the Matrix-style! What a novel idea for toy storage. Awesome. Just, awesome! :-)
Nice assortment of custom painted C-3po, they look great. Thanks for another great video...now I have to get busy hunting down all the bits i'm missing for my transport.
This is very awesome mate. What was just as cool was seeing all those figures lined up. Was a very impressive sight.
Great Star Wars Rebel Transport review. Subbed your channel.
something i don't have and i never worked out why! lol. great stuff as ever luke. i remember mailing away for a set of the spare backpack's/weapon's/gas mask's etc. this take's me right back to the late 70's/ early 80's. cool.
I would have loved that many figures as a kid.
38 years later and I find out this is ALSO a carry case. :)
I just started cracking up when you were discussing the weirdness regarding the collection of figures in the transport.
Gotta love how kenobi is on the box art. I suppose he was there on Hoth in spirit.

I really like the concept behind this toy, doubling as both a vehicle/playset and a collector case.
Was this ever re-released?
Hello Hackman. One question please. Can you go in the entire spaceship into the box???
Do you mean does it fit into the box when assembled? Yes it does.
actionjackman muy problem is that I want to buy a reproduction of the original box. The spaceship has 23 centimeters with the black puede to open and close. Can you tell me please the measurements of the box?. Thank you muy friend.
If the yellowing is the bromide they used in those older plastics coming to the surface, would retrobrite treatment remove it?
Man... that would have gutted me. I think the only big thing I ever bought from Argos was the Zoids Giant Zrk. I had to wait for it to be delivered, and by the time it arrived (well after my birthday) I'd come down with a virus. I associate it with disappointment and illness.
Remember seeing this at a friends house and disappointed thinking: “it’s just a plastic box...”
Rebel Transport: "I'm not fat! I'm a figure carrier." XD
Awesome reviews, so informative. Subscribed!
Actually one of my favorite vehicles.
this is another neat vehicle/case vintage piece. it looks like the rebels did some cloning lol, great vid mate.
I wish that they still released toys like this today. Hasbro has not been doing a good job lately.
If only Kenner still exists
Fantastic!---this is one that has eluded me over the years---Out of all the videos I have seen on this one--I have never seen it full of vintage figures---great review mate
Ever think of doing more vintage Star Wars reviews? I really enjoyed yours.
Cool, you got the accessory set. I never had this as a kid but I did get a beat up one from a mate in my early teens for a couple of quid.
Wow.. I have this since I'm a kid. I never knew the carrier part came out. Lol
From what I remember of Argos back in the 80s at Christmas they were always out of stock of the big stuff and I always ended up spending the money on something else. Case in point, Boulder Hill, queued for ages and it was out of stock. I got Switchblade and Slingshot instead.
What year is the red C3PO?
Cheers for watching

This is from The Empire Strikes Back, not Return Of The Jedi.

Cool vid, I bought 2 of these earlier this year. £4 the pair and they had the top hatches, so was pretty good.
i am not sure but i don't think this vehicle has ever been re-released!! i think it would be awsome if it was re-released with some minor updates!!!
Cheers Fuzz! I would say they made a lot of these judging by how easy they are to get now
shame you're not making videos anymore, I keep watching the old ones over and over again
I had this one back in the early 1980's.
Surprised they haven't, especially back in the 90s
I had one for xmas may have been that boxed one got one on EBAY late 2018
Awesome review my friend. It's a shame that to this day, this is the only version of Rebel Transport. I hope they release a more movie accurate one soon. Classic ship. Too bad it hasn't aged very well. Cheers.
Cheers mate, don't get to see the rebels much, everyone's into the Empire
Where you buy this
it was definitely this one, im probably just remembering things that didnt exist, i mean, im getting to that age where what happened last week is a bit of a blur...it could be that im thinking of the black handle at the top
Cheers mate, good luck with the hunt!
This ship is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the video. I'm glad you filled your transport with the appropriate figures, instead of obi won and imperial officers really? lol.
The thing in mos eisley is not a rebel transport it was there a long time before the civil war and I think it's called the widow
As far as I know that was all in your mind! Maybe your thinking of a die cast or Action Fleet version?
Thanks mate, much appreciated
That took some doing, had to bring out the customs to make up the numbers
This is nowhere near to scale but nothing really is and this was intended to be a carry case.
i have this one
So did I and hated it.
Good review!
Greedo Trandoshen Cheers mate
Nice finds mate
I dreamed of this when i was young(i still do;) Great review bro.
love it, stellar video my friend!
Ok this was not in my subscription feed. WTH UA-cam!!!???
Hit the bell so I don't miss anything else.
Cheers Cam, check your script out when I get some time, might take me a while.
Thanks mate
great review dude going through all your star wars today :-)
Every toy series has that glorified action figure container/storage case. I still don't get why they made this thing with guns INSIDE the ship itself that couldn't be used unless you take that back cover off.
Nice over all presentation
Very true mate, cheers
Ive always loved the look of this one. Very Nostromo or something. Keep it up Luke!

Wow! 8:19 pilot 2 is alive
omg... are you actually the guy who presents art attack, you sound just like him lol. Great review though.
Donna Bates What Neil Buchanan? That's a new one.
yeah that's him... i probably sound crazy now, i just heard it though nobody else probably does. i
Donna Bates No worries, Ewan McGregor seems to be the popular choice. Can't hear it myself. Thanks for watching
can't hear ewan McGregor lol. I've just recently subscribed/ started watching, really enjoying the variety, particularly Star Wars content. Do you plan to do anymore? New stuff maybe?

just think, the cat that attacked that box is probably dead. just saying.
Probably the most disappointing Christmas present I ever received. It was total shit. It was a glorified figure 'tidy'. Ungrateful little bastard I was. Although, Darth Vader's Tie Fighter was the best birthday present I ever received.
Looklike a boat
looks like a dong. I mean for the price they could have added lead paint or radioactive paint like the glow in the dark sets.
You sound like phineas and ferb dad lol
Who the heck would of wanted this?
To this day it's the only available version the rebel transport. Hasbro never made one.
Cheers mate
