1979 l was working a summer job and purchased this cool SW Droid Factory,me being 16 still loving SW and getting items ,my younger brother was just as thrilled but sad to say when ESB came around l still watched the films and collected figures but not the vehicles or play sets l was getting older and found cars and girls and went another path
This was a great vid. I still have one of these with all the parts minus a couple pegs. Have the blueprint to. No box and I didn't remember the thoughtful parts list. I did cut the Orange tubeing to various lengths and it makes an even more impressive R2D2. Here's a tip. Moisten the pegs with your toung and they go together easier. And a cup of hot water relaxes the softer plastic bits if they're to loose.
This is a great set, and the third legged R2 is probably my favorite vintage R2 figure. The Politoy version had a softer base and not the hard plastic one like the Kenner version. Great video!
I would have adored this when I was a kid. The droids were always one of the main attractions of star wars for me. Shame I didn't find out it even existed until I was in my late twenties. lol
I had it. It was shit. Imagine a happy meal toy with pre-selected parts that were rejected moulds. Everything was basic. No real droids with character ever came out...R3-fuck'd:4? The comic ad spot was how I'd first imagined it - and the artist was Brian Bolland (2000ad) I was $$$old and it was'nt cheap!
Yeh I had this too as a kid and it was pretty lame.. Of all the cool star wars stuff that was out, either my parents or uncle bought me this lol.. How about the falcon instead? :)
I had this and took the middle leg of R2 and cut off the top and glued it so it fitted on one of my normal R2s so I could have a two legged R2 and a moving 3 legged one. Looked really cool. My cousin claimed this after I got bored with it and never forgave me for taking and gluing R2's rare middle leg on to my figure 🤣
although not in the film, this was one of the more creative Kenner creations. It was fun and I filled up my remote controlled Sandcrawler with all the droids I made. It kinda ticked me off that R2's third leg wouldn't fit into the actual figure.
i always thought this playset was supposed to be that droid torture area from ROTJ. I hadnt seen the box before had no idea it was released for the first film.
Father AxeKeeper they repurposed the base for a "ROTJ" version which was the torture chamber. It was coloured grey and the swing arm had the branding iron for your power droid's feet. It was just the base, no droid parts.
Michael Diehl Thanks for the explanation. It's funny because this playset looks more like the torture chamber from ROTJ than it does anything from ANH. yet it came out several years before ROTJ was even a thing.
Wouldn't we all. I never had the Jawa but a mate did, I thought it was rubbish at the time, the cloth cloak was much better. Imagine if they had done that with Vader!
It’s so damn crazy how my brother and l never kept the box ,we would take out the toy out and the box in a very sort time found it’s way in the trash ,we must of been brain damaged or something. I still think back on that JUST PUT IT BACK IN THE FREAKIN BOX , I still kick myself for that ,l guess a lot of kids did the same thing we weren’t the only ones

Awesome set! Reminds me of how I can also build my own droids with LEGO too.

A friend had this an I was in awe of his three legged r2d2.

Great review mate. I always wanted to pick this up...one of the few vintage things that really took my interest. Keep up the great videos Mate
Hey, thanks for watching! You not a vintage fan then? I may just do some more modern stuff for you young 'ens.

I’m thinking this set MIGHT have been the droid assembly room inside the Jawa sandcrawler that wasn’t shown in the movie. 🤔
I had this wheni was a little lad,was the first Star Wars playset i owned ,it was great.
How long is the tube that came with it? Thank you.
Better yet, Hasbro remakes the set utilizing Build-A-Droid parts from the modern line.
Nice review, I saw this in box opened but not used, stickers were still on the sheet. I should have bought it! If I remember is was about $125cdn
Yeah, they missed a trick with Attack of the Clones, they could have easily worked this in. Thanks for watching!

nice review luke, i remember this set for sale when i was little but i wasn't lucky enough to get it.
Really, I didn't know it existed until I saw it in a book. I suppose I was only 1 when this was available!
I had that as a kid, it was awesome. It went great with the Jawa sand cralwer. You could fill the crawler with droids and parts !!
Wouldn't we all. I never had the Jawa but a mate did, I thought it was rubbish at the time, the cloth cloak was much better. Imagine if they had done that with Vader!
Very interesting piece this one, and great review! :)
I love this set i love the original star wars logo !!!
